They are better than the staedler pencils that are often bought for school but are nothing compared to the likes of prisma colours. So they are a kind of happy middle
The pencils are of good quality. Unfortunately, the box is made from a very thin carton as is unable to hold the penscils once take in and out a couple of times. Also, it does include a sharpener 🙂
Bought as a present for one talented little painter.. They are nice, soft , eco friendly colourful and affordable . What else you are looking for? Excellent for both kids and adults
I bought these for my son, wanting a good quality pencil crayon with a deep colour when you draw with it and that the leads don’t break easily. These crayons have achieved these two goals. There is also a good spectrum of colours, including gold and silver. He uses them often. They fill up his large pencil pot really well so he’s got a really good choice of colours now, and they do draw beautifully.
These are my favourite pencil crayon of all time they are so easy to shade with and to blend with and they can be purchased individually all around win I say soft aswell love them
These pencils are fantastic.
The colour from each pencil lays down nicely, the leads are soft without being too brittle and wearing down too quickly.
The price is fantastic for 48 pencils in a nice array of hues.
If you are looking for nice high quality pencils that will give great results, last you a good while and not break the bank I would highly recommend this set from Faber-Castell.
I’ve included a few photos of a few different colours so you can see how rich they on just standard A4 printer paper. The image of Winnie the Pooh was drawn on a higher quality paper and the pencils worked perfectly giving a nice smooth rich finish.
Bought these for my adult colouring book and they were perfect. Colours lay down easily, bright, blend well and they don’t break! And there is not one duplicate. Which is fantastic. Excellent range of colours too
Bought these to use for adult colouring books. Pleased with the quality, they are good for shading and blending and colour can be layered to get depth. Good selection of blues and greens but dissappointed that there wasn’t a pale pink,(only a dark cerise) and a reddish brown would have been useful too. My old crayons are 40 year old Caran D’ache which I had as a child, these are getting very low now now & I only have 12 shades, so this set was bought as a replacement. Obviously they are no where near the quality of the Caran D’ache crayons, but I did not expect them to be for this price. I am getting good results in my colouring book though due to the large range of shades.
Given the cheap price of these pencils I have to say I am so impressed with them!! I wasn’t too sure what to expect as they are marketed as ‘suitable for children’ and are at the lower (red box) end of Faber Castell’s range. However I need not have worried! Firstly, the selection of colours in the 48 pack is excellent – a good range of tones throughout the colour spectrum including very brights through to earth tones and some more unusual ones as well including metallic silver and gold! They come packaged in the red cardboard box as seen on the image on Amazon, however unlike the similar 48 water soluble set (also sold in a red box) these do not come with the little cardboard separator/tray so you will need to remove these from the box to view all the colours and likely find an alternative suitable storage tin or wrap to keep them nicely. That said, they all arrived in excellent condition, no breakages etc!
APPEARANCE & CONTENT: Initially I was confused as to whether these “Eco pencils” were in fact the same as Faber’s other Classic colour pencils (sold in tins of 12, 24 or 36 – usually with the “jousting” picture on the front) and I can confirm that these are indeed different – these pencils come with “Eco” written on the barrel and have a colour name (not a number) unlike the classic pencils which have “Classic colour” and a colour number written on them. The Eco pencils come only in the cardboard box which has a picture of a castle on it, and the range of colours is also different to the classic colours as well. Although I believe the classics can also be bought in a cardboard packet of 48, however they tend to be more expensive than these “Eco” ones (again if you are in doubt as to which is which, I think the different pictures on the boxes should help).
However just as a point of note, the corresponding “Eco” watercolour versions of these pencils ARE the same colours as the classic pencils. Both versions of the watercolour pencils (with either the picture of the fish on the box or the macaw birds) appear to be the same as far as I am aware – they both have “watercolour” stamped on the barrels and not “Eco” (even when they are being sold as such). So if you are looking for a set of each, the different colour range seems to only appear between these Eco (non soluble) pencils and the original Classic pencils.
USAGE: Having been pleasantly surprised at the range of colours available in this set, I decided to test them out and see how well they perform and blend. They hold a nice point and you can achieve crisp detail as well as giving dense colour lay down for shading. Like all Faber’s pencils they are SV bonded to prevent breakage and I have not had one break on me yet. This fact alone would set them apart from many other brands of similarly priced pencils!! As someone who has used everything from Derwent academy to Faber Polychromos pencils I was not expecting them to blend that well but again, I was pleasantly surprised! Ok, so they are not on the same level as the fabulous Polychromos!! but for a budget end of the range pencil they are pretty good! I have been able to lay down 3-4 different colours and blend with no problems and then still apply some finer detail over the top without excessive wax bloom appearing or destroying my paper in the process! They work fine with other tools such as the Derwent blender and burnisher pencils too!
The final point I would like to note is that compared to the previously mentioned Faber Classic colour pencils, I actually find the colours of the Eco set brighter and more intense (the classics seems to be a bit harder and waxier, whereas the Eco’s seem slightly softer and creamier). Not a drastic difference, but still noticeable. They are also not as soft as a Derwent Drawing or Coloursoft pencil, but a rather nice balance between density of colour lay down yet hard enough to still retain a point for adding texture and detail (in my opinion again better than the Derwent studio range of ‘harder’ art pencils). I guess this is just another example of Faber Castell’s unfailing commitment to quality shining through!! I find the lower end Derwent ranges such as Academy colour (which are aimed at the student market) are hard and waxy with poorer colour lay down and are more prone to breakage when sharpening than these. So even as bottom of the range ‘children’s’ pencils these Faber ones are far superior!
At the end of the day I was looking for a bright and cheerful set of decent budget pencils to use as an “out and about” sketching set in an array of vibrant and tempting shades and I am very happy that I bought these!! For the price and range of colours I really cannot fault them!
The problem with this product is that more often than not, the product that arrives is not the Faber Castell Eco-Farbstifte but a different set of pencils. They are boxed extremely similarly and called Faber Castell Buntstifte (name printed on box). I noticed some pictures in the reviews are actually not this set of pencils, but the Buntstifte. I have purchased these pencils from different sellers, and three times I got sent the Buntstifte. I gave up after the third time, and buy them elsewhere now. The Faber Castell Eco-Farbstifte are wonderful, wonderful pencils and the 5*s are for them. The colours are rich and blendable and the pencils themselves of great quality. I’ve never had a lead break on me, and I favour them over pencils three times their cost. The Bunstifte however, are of lesser quality, The colours are not the same for a start. The pencil is lower quality, they don’t blend as well, and the leads do occasionally snap. If you recieved the Buntstifte (you can tell by the name on the box, and if you no longer have the box, you will notice there is no colour name printed on the pencil, like the Farbstifte has) you recieved a pencil that is not as good as the one in the listing you paid for. Some sellers have told me they are the same, but as someone whose has both sets, I can tell you they are not.
Very good pencils – easy to use, and for colouring you can get either a pale colour by a single application, or go over the same place several times to get really strong colour.
These pencils were bought specifically for use with adult colouring books and have proven to be a good choice. There is a good selection of colours and the pencils are easy to sharpen although I do find that they wear down a little bit faster than some other brands I have used. However, these are still my preferred pencil because they are so nice to use and I haven’t had any issues with them.
These are nice pencils to start your collection off with. I do find them a little soft but they blend well and you have a nice selection of colours in the pack including a gold and silver.
Bought these for adult colouring books. In particular for Johanna Basford books. These pencils like the cream paper. Nice variety of colours depending on pressure applied. Have been using these for practice in blending and have had some outstanding results. Dont drop them on their first day out like I did. Oops. Quite a hard pencil compared to the Crayola I used previously.Brilliant price compared to elsewhere on the net.
Lovely pencils i use them for adult colouring books, lotsof colour varieties and the colour on the paper is the colournof the pencil, som pencils are not and younend up having to put a lot of pressure on to achive the colour. I wpold definightly recommend
hese pencils are good if you do not want to pay for the polychromos, i use these for adult colouring in books when i am on holliday and i do not want to bring my polychromos pencils.
These are nice pencils to work with in a very good range of colours and great value. Usefully the names are printed on the pencils; the names and shades used are traditional ‘arty’ colours, which (a) makes you feel like a ‘proper’ artist and (b) is helpful if you often work under artificial light when judging shade by eye alone can be quite tricky. I don’t think these are available individually though, only as sets. To be able to replace individual pencils you have to go to the more expensive range (Polychromos – which are fantastic, but pricey) and in my case using this set inspired me to take the plunge and start collecting those. I still use my Environmentally Friendly set all the time though; the colours are smooth, soft, blendable and pigmented. They don’t break all the time, either, and sharpen up well. Excellent for the price.
I like these pencils because they are good quality.
The colour range is not so great though, there’s not even a single pink in the bunch. There’s magenta and some wine colour, but that’s about it.
I like the range of blues, it has a lot of options.
These are perfect. I’m left handed and tend to press pretty hard when I colour, I have sharpened each pencil before use until they’re sharp, and not once did the tip snap. Excuse my bad colouring.
Really fantastic budget pencil for adult colouring. Nice selection of colours including some natural greens. Have now bought several sets for christmas gifts to accompany colouring books after trying out myself.
Love these pencils and good selection of colours.
Really enjoying my colouring – very relaxing way of spending time.
Would recommend Millie Marrota’s adult colouring books which are amazing an a work of art in themselves.
I do a lot of colouring books for adults and I have a vast colouring pencil collection and I just had to add these to it! The price is fantastic and there are a lot of colours to choose from in this set. I can tell the quality of them compared to some cheaper pencils I have. I haven’t had any break yet. The colours are bright and also blend rather well.
Although not exactly the same as the colour list on the outside of the box, the pencils were of a very similar range and breadth of colours. cloud range across the 48 pencils evenly split over spectrum providing an excellent palette. Smooth and easy application of colour when using. Leads have yet to break after a decent test period and at least one spill out of the box! Free pencil sharpener appreciated – it will be the correct angle for the pencils and help maintain and prolong life. All round good buy, feel they were genuine value at the price.
Plenty of colours and shades. Decent quality, Good price. I would recommend them. However, although there are no duplicates, the selection seems to be somewhat random. For instance, the colours depicted on the back of the box differs considerably from the actual contents. Even so, I like them.
Great pencils in a good range of bright colours. Have been looking for brights as crayola seem to be a little bland if that makes sense. Would recommend these highly as they don’t break when sharpened like many do and last a while.
After ordering on the 22 April, the pencils arrived on the 29th April.Worth the wait! After choosing between these Faber Castell and the Bic Conte tin of 12 colouring pencils, the Faber won on the fact of colours and the name. This for a hobby of adult colouring in, which after some reservations I decided to give it go to purchase a book and some pencils. But to my annoyance the pencil colour ‘salmon’ had no lead, which for the price is very disappointing. But overall very pleased.
Beautiful bright pencils with a strong lead, I’ve dropped and bashed them around a bit and no breakages. Also I got a free pencil sharpener with this box so very please indeed. Contains two metallic pencils as well, will buy agai
I have wanted good quality pencils for ages! Now i finally have some!
I have searched all over amazon for the best value for money and i have to say these are the best. They blend really well and they dont break very easily. You get alot for your money and i highly recommend these. I use the all the time for my instagram page: @kittykat_a
I was delighted to receive my pencils having purchased two colouring books. Initially I was pleased such an excellent selection of colours/shades with a fine point for those intricate details. However in spite of the fact that I also purchased the Faber-Castell sharpener some of the pencils resist sharpening(even in an alternative sharpener) then when yo get it to go the wood surrounding the lead is uneven with a thick side which gives you a short blunt point. Not suitable for intricate work especially eyes on peacock feather (found in the fabulous colouring book). If this problem could be resolved they would be an excellent purchase. Was I unlucky and have a batch batch it is Fortunately only a proportion of the pencils that I have encountered the problem with.
I had faber castell when I was a kid and I still have some of them now that I’m 22! I just love them, they worth the price! And the sharpener that comes with them is very good. Totally a great product!
They’re really good pencils if you want quality but aren’t looking to spend much and they don’t constantly break or crumble. The only problem is they’re hard to sharpen so I had to buy the Faber Castell sharpener for them
