If you’re unsure whether to go for a Fellowes or Bonsaii, definitely don’t go for Bonsaii. Fellows is much better quality and works! Bonsaii was really poor and couldn’t cope with the smallest amount of shredding on the first use.
othing to dislike. performs efficiently and comparatively quietly. easy to use and empty
I like the shredder it has been very easy to use and is so quiet.
Shreds into small pieces works well very happy with i
Does tend to over heat so don’t do too much at once perfect for small amounts
Works well. Only criticism is that it is top heavy and very easy to knock over mess everywhere. Put it out of the way and shred away!
Excellent item to have in any home office. The collection bucket feels a bit flimsy though.
Replaced a garbage Bonsai shredder (already reviewed) with this, which does what it says on the tin. Excellent product, would thoroughly recommend.
Overall the shredder is great, basket a bit on the smaller side but it shreds a lot quieter than other brands Iv had.
Bought this expecting it to be brand new & it came through with shredded paper in the blades, asked for replacement & got the same again.
It shreds great, even credit cards, I have no moans about that, but I wish I didn’t have to oil it, my old one never needed oiling. Also it would have been better if it had some sort of handle (s) as moving it is a bit awkward, especially if your fingers don’t work too good.
This shredder is perfect. It’s shreds to small pieces of confetti. We had a previous same make shredder, but to be fair, we didn’t really look after it. This new one is fast, can do many more sheets, smaller pieces, and works perfectly. We have also purchased and used the relevant oil to grease the machine.
Excellent at shredding, destroyed my documents with ease (anyone need hamster bedding?).
There is a locking feature on the top of the controls so you can’t switch it on by accident when locked. This is good, but while the shredder is running, you can lift the head away from the basket? I would prefer if the top with the chewing rotors locked into the basket with a locking mechanism, so you couldn’t remove it while it was running. I’m surprised it doesn’t have both features.
This was a ‘peace of mind’ purchase, after years of throwing old correspondence in the bin with address details etc. I decided I should start shedding papers in my sensible old age. Very glad I did and have to say I get a strange satisfaction out of shedding papers. Plus I then package in a paper bag and recycle. The buttons and functionality is a bit clunky to use, but it seems to be a solid bit of kit so hopefully will have a decent lifespan.
After using this for a while bought one as a Christmas present for my sister who is very pleased with it as well.
I needed a replacement for a shredder that had broken. This looked OK and basically is. I wouldn’t push it to the claimed amount of sheets of paper it is supposed to take or I think you could end up with it struggling. It is much quieter than my last one which is a good thing.
A couple of downsides – it is a bit front heavy and is easy to tip over forwards if you are not careful. The cable coming out of the back means that you cannot place it flush to wall or any other surface, it has to stand proud a little.
Found it a bit small for my use, the biggest problem is having to take the heavy top with the machinery off in it to empty the box. Returned it to Amazon as I found a Bonsaii shredder which was just what I needed and you just take the box out of the front to empty it, no lifting the machinery and shreds to very small pieces, not strips.
Shreds into pieces less than an inch long. I’ve been using it quite heavily this month and so far it’s been fine.
I had a Fellowes shredder before that and it only went because the blades got dull after many years of use (more than a decade I think).
You’ll always see reviews of things like this that say “one star, it’s not like the old days, this broke in two days”. I think you pay your money and take your choice: if you run a cheap home shredder like this for comfortablly less time than they say then let it cool (say 3 or 4 minutes max), stay under the number of sheets they say (say 3 or 4 sheets max, and count thicker paper as double the number of sheets), oil it (drizzle rapeseed oil on a sheet of paper and feed it through every few months), don’t put plastic through it, and it’ll work fine for years.
Or, spend a lot more on one designed for an office.
Great little shredder. I just use it for home documents and a few work bits as I work from home these days (that prompted the purchase!). I read so many reviews on so many shredders and I’m please with this. I don’t push it though! I do a bit at a time, I always removed Staples (even though it says you can, why risk it in my opinion), I don’t shred cards and I do a maximum of 3 sheets at a time. I’ve had no issues treating it like this. I sometimes wonder if the manufacturers for these thing advertise for the maximum they can do and that’s why people seem to have issues. For me, perfect little product.
First time I’ve had a cross-shredder. Unlike its predecessor which was a simple shredder which lasted years, this one clogs up badly if you allow the container to fill. Running a few sheets through unclogs it – trying to do it manually simply doesn’t work.
Safety features are good. Shredder must be sitting on the container amongst other features preventing it being used incorrectly.
Having to oil it every time the container’s emptied seems excessive, but if it’s needed to keep the blades serviceable, so be it.
In terms important value for money you can’t go wrong. I’m sure you can shred more sheets at a time in the more expensive shredders but this still dies credit cards and in my experience I can do up to 10 sheets at a time. I don’t know how much difference it makes in reality but I did buy some oil for it which I also bought from amazon, it was advised in the manual to oil the blades everything you empty the shredder. I’ve seen a few customer reviews saying that it’s not really necessary but for me, for the sake of spending 6 or 7 quid on the oil felt worth it. I got this shredder in offer discounted by about a tenner so even with the oil it’s within the price range I was planning to spend anyway. I’d buy the oil even if it may not be necessary than have to replace the shredder prematurely which would be a lot more expensive.
After spending what seemed like an age trawling through all the different shredders and being slightly put off by some
Of the negative feedback on a few. I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this little fella.
I am not disappointed. It’s exactly the right size for my household needs, as I only need it to shred bills, statements and anything that has my address on it which means I will only use it maybe once a month.
The top isn’t terribly heavy and sits perfect on the bin with no gaps and the bin itself is sturdy enough to hold it.
It shreds the paper into quite small pieces making it easy to tip into a waste bag when full. Love the window in the front letting you know how full it’s getting and it’s not too noisy either.
The other positive is that it doesn’t leave tiny bits of paper in the blades therefore no mess when you lift it to empty the bin.
Very happy with this purchase, and it’s knocks spots off the rubbishy one I purchased from a well known store and needless to say returned.
I would recommend this to anyone who only wants it for household purposes.
I’ve used it already and am very happy.
I am one very satisfied customer.
Is this a good shredder? Yes. Am I glad I got it? Yes. For the price it’s a reasonable option but only if you tend to need to shred a few sheets occasionally. I have a fair amount of documents amassed over the years that needed shredding but didn’t want to spend a lot on something I’d hardly ever use. I bought this on numerous reviews, both on here and other websites. It does its job well but my only issue is the overheating and the ridiculous need for it to stay off to ‘cool down’. It states 6 sheets can be put through it but also states these are the 70mg versions, which is just about as thick as tissue paper. I stuck to 2-3 sheets at a time, some of which were reasonably thick. It supposedly runs for 3 minutes continuously before switching off to cool down. In accepting this I began shredding. After 20-30 sheets, 2-3 at a time, the container needed emptying which allows a moment to cool down. By the time I got to the 3rd/4th empty it stopped due to overheating. 20+ minutes later it was usable again. By the 2nd/3rd empty it switched off again. This happened 4 times to shred a 25mm high stack of paper. Although this really annoyed me I couldn’t exactly blame the shredder as its simply not powerful enough to handle that amount of paper. There’s simply no way it would last 3 minutes of continuous use. So, if your shredding needs are an occasional few sheets every now and again then this is ideal but if you have a bag load of documents you need shredding you’ll be better off buying something bigger with more power/storage.
This cross cut shredder works extremely well, it will handle up to 6 sheets of paper at a time and cuts it into ‘confetti’ like pieces.
The unit has a black plastic bin to collect the shredded paper and it has a useful clear window so that it is possible to see how full it is. The ‘head’ unit will only work when it is located properly located on the bin.
The head, which contains the actual shredding mechanism is very solid and quite heavy, it is quite noisy in operation and carries on running for a few seconds after it has finished shredding, as with most shredders it only operates when paper is inserted.
There is overheat protection which shuts the machine off if it is run for too long and won’t restart for about 45 minutes.
As these cross cut shredders are more complex than strip shredders (and a lot more secure) they do require some maintenance, either by spraying oil on to the cutters or by using the lubricating sheets that are available.
This is a great shredder maybe not to the highest security standard, but a lot better than a strip cut one, and in my opinion perfectly acceptable for household use. At the price of 37.99 that we paid for it I consider it very good value for money.
This is an effective shredder for occasional home use. We use it for disposing of household bills, statements, receipts and the occasional credit card. For anything more than this, you should buy a bigger machine.
It will cross cut A4 paper in singles, twos or threes with ease. Anything thicker seems to strain the motor and gears, so I wouldn’t recommend feeding it too much at a time.
The bin is quite small, which is good in a way because it doesn’t take up much space, but it does mean you need to keep a watch on how full it is. I found that it will take around 20 sheets before needing attention. Empty it well before the shreddings reach the top, otherwise they will strain and jam the cutters, which could eventually break the gears. This is how my last shredder broke.
I found the window on the bin to be of little use as the plastic is tinted and difficult to see through clearly.
The thermal cut-out seems quite tolerant. I was able to shred several bin fulls without it tripping.
The instructions recommend lubricating the cutters from above with shredder oil after each emptying. Just be careful not to spill any on the carpet!
The shredder is slightly noisy, but not overly so.
The only complaint I have is a tendency for the cutters to clog up, even when the bin is not full. Clearing it out is a fiddly job best done with thin pliers. I found leaving a short gap between each sheet, rather than endless feeding, helps avoid this.
Overall it’s a reasonable machine and I am happy with it.
Well considering my last one sent me to A&E this one is doing great, ok ok its a bit long but I will tell you what happened, so I get a Galileo thermometer for Christmas looks great on my computer desk, one night getting in to pubg 🙂 I knock the tube flying and it smashes all over the place! Now I didn’t know this at the time but mine was filled with extremely flammable ethanol! it went everywhere and I noticed it went over my previous shredder, I thought it would be fine to just to wipe it clean like i cleaned the rest of the area, I also left it overnight thinking best not use it at min. So next day needing to get the shredding done I turned it on… so far so good 🙂 just started to shred my paper and bang! a flash of burning light I couldn’t see out my eyes and my face was burning hot I ran in shower that didn’t help, my mrs speeded me to a walk in centre and they said “mate you need to go A&E” lol so long story short after hours of them pulling my burnt eye lashes out my eye balls and putting wooden swob sticks in my eyes to test for chemicals, trimming away all my burnt hair etc, I returned home and made a full recovery, I got myself a manual shredder as this event put me right off a powered one, but this lasted about a week as manually shredding paper page by page was making me want to blow my face up again so there you go… buy this shredder its very good and it hasn’t gone bang yet 🙂
This compact and sturdy shredder is ideal for occasional or light home use shredding only. If you have a lot of shredding or intend to use this shredder for your home office then it is definitely too small.
It is very easy to use and doesn’t make too loud noise while shredding. It has a small window to show you when the bin is full and there is safety lock which is very useful if you have small children. However, you need to lift the cover up in order to empty the bin and the cover is a touch heavy for such a small machine but it is a manageable weight.
It does shred A4 size papers, staples and credit card as stated but I haven’t try paper clips yet so I can’t comment on that. I stressed on A4 size because any papers wider than that you would need to tear them in half in order to feed in to the opening.
I tried to shred up to 8 pieces of papers at a time without any problem. However, I must stress that the 8 piece of papers I shredded was the same thickness as the computer printer papers. I would definitely reduce the amount for thicker papers so not to jam up the machine. I would not recommend shredding cardboard papers.
As the shredder is very small and so the bin gets filled up very quickly. I managed to by pass this problem by pressing the shredded paper down inside the bin whenever they reached the half way point of the viewing window.
I read from a few reviews that it could get messy when emptying the bin so I put a 15 litres pedal bin liner inside the bin and that worked wonder. All I needed to do was to lift the bin liner out when it got full. I had lifted 2 full bin liners from the shredder and there weren’t any mess on the floor!!
