When you have a fitness fanatic for a wife, you need to get her this Garmin.
It takes the guessing out of the distance she runs and steps she walks.
The GPS is very good.
Not used for music yet, so can’t comment on that.
She loves it!
Love the smaller screen as I have a tiny wrist. Easy to see the details and easy to use.
Garmin Vivoactive 4s, well what can I say other than well worth the money. Bought it mainly for its smartphone notification abilities, which work faultlessly once set up, but learning new benefits of G VA 4s every day. Prevously tried 3 generic examples at 1/4 the price, all sent back as not fit for purpose. Should have gone straight for the G VA 4s . The Garmin sales description was spot on , factual and not misleading.
Dispel any doubts you may have about ths smartwatch, its a mini smartphone on your wrist ( well…nearly:)
This is the first smartwatch I’ve owned and am fully happy with this product! It is extremely handy for tracking my exercises, but also steps, water intake, etc. It’s battery is phenomenal and lasts well for days, though tracking exercises as you would expect does drain it quite a bit. The strap is also comfortable and adjusts very well.
Would certainly recommend this watch – Go Garmin!
My wife loves this upgrade from her Fitbit, the selection of third party straps is also great. Despite its small size the vivoactive 4S does not compromise anywhere, GPS, blood oxygen, MP3 playback straight to your Bluetooth headphones, notifications, respond to messages on your phone direct from the watch and a battery that goes the distance. It’s hard to believe they have packed this into a device the size of a ‘normal’ watch. In the UK, the Garmin pay feature is not so well supported, that’s probably the only downside I can think of. The interface on both the app and website is intuitive, detailed and highly customizable.
Amazing product from Garmin
Takes quite a while to fully understand all the apps and way to use but once you know what you’re doing, the data this thing produces is fantastic.
I moved over from fitbit to Garmin and I would say I’m really pleased with it. It means I don’t need my phone for runs anymore. It’s also been great for cycling. The website is pretty good also has route planners and such but you can’t get directions on your wrist.
Seems pretty accurate for the most part, notifications from my Google Pixel appear on the watch too. Battery life seems great too – even for long 5-6 hour rides I still have battery life. Otherwise it last maybe 4-5 days without charging though I tend to plug it in whilst I shower.
Downsides, the mobile app is messy and confusing but you get used to it. It over estimates sleep and doesn’t track sleep as well as fitbit did. Otherwise great watch and fitness tracker would recommend.
Have this nearly a year now and fully enjoyed using it. Gives me good insights into my run performance. Sleep accuracy is as good as most, although not perfect. Great to have the pulse oximetre in these days of COVID. Also like the stress feature which does seem to align to what I feel. For me this is the perfect proportional size for my wrist also. Hate the oversized watches.
I love this watch. It’s not as good as my Fitbit charge 2 for sleep recognition and also the step count isn’t as accurate but other than that. The Bluetooth is great for my wireless headphones, it’s really lightweight, smart watch and does everything I need. Would highly recommend.
I bought this for my wife and she loves it. She can monitor her exercise, sleep etc, which she links to a fitness plan app.
Unfortunately at present Garmin are experiencing some problems but this has not diatracted her with its use.
It is certainly helping her with weight loss and getting fitter and she is happy with look and feel.
Overall a good purchase which earned me a few Brownie points to.
I dithered between this and the Venu, and I’m happy I chose it. I am a man, but I have skinny cycling arms so I didn’t want a monstrous watch, and this 4S model is the same diameter as a regular e.g. Seiko man’s watch, just a bit thicker. I’d definitely recommend if you are relatively slightly-built like me, but the strap wouldn’c be long enough for a larger man’s wrist, you’d want the bigger 4.
I love the always-on display, which is really clear in sunlight. It takes a while to find a watch face you get on with, but the customisation options are virtually limitless. The touch screen is lovely. The phone notifications are really useful. If you bank with Santander, the wireless payment is super convenient for when you are out and about and need to buy a drink or a snack. The battery life is superb – I charge it every day when I’m in the shower, and it rarely goes below 80%. I’ve used the sleep tracking to help me improve the quality of my sleep.
I spend a lot of time reading reviews trying to decide whether to get the Vivioactive 4s or the Galaxy Active 2. I decided I wanted a sports tracker rather than a smart watch so I went with the 4s. So far I am pleased with my choice.
Setup – this was easy enough with a few restart / uninstall and reinstall teething problems.
Looks – I am a small woman with small wrists so I was (happily) limited with choices for a fitness watch as they are all so huge. I didn’t consider any of the other Garmin watches for this reason. I spent a long time deliberating over the colour and between the black and the powder grey I am very pleased with my choice of powder grey. It looks smart and fashionable and I was worried it would look cheap and clunky.
Fitness – so far I have only used it for a run and I was pleased with it. It connected to GPS quickly (although not as quickly as my phone) and recorded accurately. It measured everything in km as I asked but the pace was in miles which was slightly annoying. However, it still uploaded the pace in km to Strava and buzzed to tell me my time for each km as I was running which was helpful. I haven’t found a way to change the pace. I could control my music through the watch, but this is quite awkward and was easier to control on my headphones. So far I have just used spotify through my phone and haven’t tried downloading music to it.
Smartwatch – I don’t think I am going to end up making use of a lot of the features. I like having the notifications on my watch (I’m a teacher so can’t check my phone very much). I used to have a fitbit and loved seeing the data for a few weeks but then got bored of it and I couldn’t use it as a watch as it was too chunky and never lit up when I wanted to see the time. I love the screen on the 4s and it is easy to see the time and date, so it works very well as an actual watch! I haven’t worn it at night so I’m not sure about the sleep tracker. I need to get a bank account that works for Garmin pay – I knew this from reading reviews before I bought it. It’s a feature I would like to try and use. If you want a smart watch, it’s probably not what you’re after.
Overall, I am pleased with this watch. It has everything I was after in a sports watch and there are many features I am yet to explore properly. It looks great and is very responsive. Not entirely convinced it’s worth 219 but that seems to be the going rate for a decent watch!
Edit: I have now figured out how to change the pace into min/km and also the weather into celsius! (Hold down button B, settings, system, units)
This is great. I have been so much more active and am happy at how i can keep track of my progress and connect to friends to challenge them. I love the alarm as it merely vibrates on your wrist and doesn’t wake up your flatmates.
I absolutely love my watch. I’ve gone from a couch-potato to super active and data obsessed – I love checking my stats and getting kudos on Strava! Besides all the wonderful functionality it’s a gorgeous watch, the perfect size, aesthetically pleasing and super robust. My only wish would be a higher dpi on the display.
Nice watch. Bit misleading as the pics show a very black OLED type screen, but it isn’t! Shame. ALSO UPDATE!! Amazon music app is absolute rubbish!!! The reviews on the Garmin Amazon app are awful, wish I’d known this!! Watch is going back.
Well I am rubbish with technology but it was easy to set up, excellent data whether tracking of training. I bought it as I had owned a Fitbit versa for 18mths, but it didn’t have GPS technology this watch is really accurate excellent value for money and a really easy to use but useful device absolutely love i
Almost the perfect watch. If you’ve ever had/used an Apple watch, it could feel a little clunky. However, for a fraction of the price, it’s a great product.
I’ve had some minor issues with ym Bluetooth headphones cutting in and out when listening to podcasts directly from my watch, but that could be my headphones (although they are brand new).
The app is comprehensive, if a little over complicated. Again, I’m comparing to the simplict of Apple products.
If you want something that has GPS, holds a good amount of music/podcasts/audio books, and isn’t an Apple product, then this is the watch for you.
Looks lovely on, very stylish and not in your face. Picks up GPS fine, not immediately but just wait a minute or so and it gets it. Synch to your phone to view more in depth details. Sleep patterns are interesting.
After research I settled on a Vivoactive 4S to replace my Forerunner 35. I took a bit of a punt as there were quite a few criticisms of the display and the battery but so far I have been very pleased with this watch. I got a 4S as my small male wrists can’t cope with the normal huge trackers that are out there. It looks great (silver/grey), is much sleeker than the forerunner and has a good size strap. Fit could be a little better, but that is more a function of my wrist than the watch. The display is great. Clear and sharp. Legible in daylight and most detail can be seen in low light without backlight on. The backlight makes everything easily readable in the dark; I have it set to come on only when I tap the screen and for the shortest time available. It can be set to come on with gestures too, but I found it coming on when I didn’t want it, wasting battery. Various styles of watchface are available and I have downloaded more from the Garmin app without trouble. Resolution is more than adequate. Touchscreen is responsive and allows scrolling through the many functions. These functions and screens can be personalised easily (I have removed the menstrual tracker!), putting most used apps in order of preference. This watch works far better with the Garmin Connect app. The Pulse Ox is interesting, but having proved I have oxygen in my blood I have turned it off as it drains battery heavily for some reason. Sleep tracking is better and now reports on REM sleep somehow, which the forerunner didn’t do. Workouts with graphics can be downloaded to the watch, but so far I have only used the Running Coach which works well. The watch can hold loads of music, downloaded from laptop via Garmin Express and I have purchased a pair of cheap bluetooth earphones for running which work well with the watch. I have also loaded a credit card and used Garmin Pay from the watch which is neat as I no longer need to carry cards or phone on a run. Watch came 60% charged which lasted a day with all the setting up and playing with everything. I now get 4 days battery life with daily activity tracking and settings optimised for longevity, although there is nothing compromised in terms of functionality (pulse ox can be checked manually if required). It charges really fast too. HR accuracy is my only downside. When I first got it, HR was way off and I nearly returned it. This has now settled down and overall seems more representative, but I can still look at it and note it is over-reading. I think it is quite sensitive to where it is sitting on the wrist, although the Forerunner never had a problem. All-in-all I am really glad I got this watch. It is so much better then the Forerunner, if a lot more expensive.
Bought this to replace my fitbit versa because I was sick of the inaccuracy and missed routines. The vivoactive is more accurate, by that I mean runs and walks show the same distances not like my versa. It is comfortable to wear although the strap is a little on the short side and is on the last few holes on my wrist. The battery life is not as long as Advertised if you monitor pulse ox but charging doesn’t take long and is no trouble. The app is better than the fitbit app and gives all kinds of information to digest. I am still finding my way round it but impressed so far. Well pleased with my purchase so far.
Although this is the 4S, ie the small one, it is still quite chunky on the wrist. However, it is comfortable and fits my wrist really well. The watch takes a while to get used to, but so far it has been immensely useful with my sports, sleep, heartrate and steps tracking.
Stylish watch, I was worried it would be too chunky on my small wrist but it’s very comfortable, so easy to set up the app and connect watch. It Has a lot of features and activities, which is great for me as I like to keep fit. you can even personalize your watch face. I’ve only had this watch a few days but i am very happy with it so fa
I have had a Vivoactive 3 for the past 18 months and asked for the Vivoactive 4s for an early Christmas present simply because I liked the idea of it being smaller. I’m actually thrilled with the upgrade- I find it, in general, to be more accurate than the Vivoactive 3- now it actually notices that I climb the stairs 20+ times a day rather than claiming that I don’t climb them at all! I also think the heart rate metric is a bit more accurate as it picks up an increase faster. I have had no trouble pairing it with multiple pairs of Bluetooth headphones, but to be honest this feature isn’t one I will use once the newness wears off, as it’s extremely hard on the battery and in any case I never go out without my phone and I am not a user of any paid streaming service and have no desire to become one. Garmin Pay works well (I’m using Revolut to have access to it) and the Body Battery metric is very useful and seems accurate in recording when I’ve had an exhausting day and how refreshed I am after a night’s sleep.
The battery life is nowhere near as good as I got with the Vivoactive 3, but this is only to be expected with a smaller watch body. I need to charge it every second or third day whereas the battery on the Vivoactive 3 usually lasted five days. For me it’s worth the tradeoff as the watch is far more suited to a woman’s wrist than the Vivoactive 3.
I’m not an extreme athlete- my only regular activity is walking- but I find this watch to be exactly what I need.
