Great game, took me back to my childhood.
Only niggle was that the delivery sticker was stuck directly to the games box, no additional outer packaging. This was a gift & wasn’t able to remove without slightly ripping the box.
Other than that they loved it.
Keeps you entertained for hours – it’s a Christmas family must have
The box didn’t hold up very well, so it now doesn’t close well. Which makes travelling with the game difficult as you can lose some of the wee logs. It also comes with a bracket to help with the speed of rebuilding, which is made from cardboard, it should really be made from something more sturdy either wood or metal. There should also be a sack to hold the whole came together allowing for the box to be recycled.
I have looked online for something to replace the cardboard bracket but to no avail.
I bought the game for my four year old and their younger sibling loves to join in.
Did the trick for a Christmas present. Although only played it once, so maybe it was rubbish. Who knows
Love this game, a classic. Need a new version since the old was was about 30 years old.
fun knowledgeable game to play with friends! you can compete with each other or play in teams. it’s fun to share and learn new things at the same time!
This is a great timeless family game. one of the bes
A lot of people have been saying the questions have an American bias towards them, this put me off buying the game for a while, but haven’t purchased the game have to disagree, i’ve seen plenty of UK based questions which would be confusing for an American audience as well, but there is a good mix of questions.
Overall i would recommend the game to anyone who is a fan of quizzing and trivia games but the price is slightly too high, it should be 12-15 maximum
Now I know I’m getting older, but it is far too difficult to read the question cards. Is it just me? Great game all the same.
The questions aren’t too hard or too easy for the most part. They follow the original Genus edition categories, and are content appropriate for the UK.
But because of penny pinching they don’t include any card holders for passing the question cards round the table, which makes gameplay much more awkward.
The board is also quite plain, not decorated like the old Genus edition. I know this is a style thing, but it just comes off looking a bit cheap.
Well it’s trivial pursuit so people know this game (well most people, not me). I bought this game having knew of the game but didn’t realise how bloody hard It is, most of the questions are ridiculously hard so probably not the best family game. I think this is more suited for seasoned quizzers. I did play it and it took ages due to the hard questions , I finished the game but it has been sitting in a box since.
Having played this game A LOT in the 80s and 90s, this was great to play with my kids now the youngest is 14.
The writing on the cards seems to have got smaller, however am willing to concede that I’m getting on and need my glasses more often these days!
All in all, a great classic general knowledge game for the family, particularly good for these dark winter nights.
I don’t need to write a review for the game, it’s great and our family have played it for years. Bought a new one for my family and we’re looking forward to creating our own memories.
Why there are no question card holders I have no idea! I want this game to be oplayed for years and this is going to just create a mess.
I really enjoyed playing this with my family but most of the questions are insanely hard and too specific for the average human being to be able to answer. We still really enjoyed trying and coming up with funny guesses. There are a wide range of questions so you’ll be struck with a new one every time! Plus it’s a great way to learn new facts!
We bought this to replace the Grandparents first edition Trivial Pursuit- which is easily 30 years old. We refused to play with them any longer as Grandad knew all the answers off by heart. We got this one to play on Christmas day. The game itself is well presented, and we like the bright look and feel of the plastic counters. However, we all found the questions laughably difficult. Which I think says more about us than it does the game. Just be warned, it’s a tough game
It’s a great game but it’s expensive and the questions/answers are WAY TOO SMALL. So small that it detracts from the game. At work, 11 or 12 point text is standard in letters, emails, web pages, documents, etc. This text is probably 5-6 point, half the size of text in your average letter or paperback. Also, too many questions are current affairs which means after a year or two, they are out of vogue and everyone’s forgotten them. Overall recommended (but should come with a big magnifying glass). The obvious solution is to double the size of the question cards, double the size of the text and provide new plastic card containers double the size.
This is our second copy of this game. The fist one is now a number of years old and we thought that we would update to a more current version. Unfortunately I find that the new version appears cheaper and not as well made as our older model. My main complaint being that there is no card holders supplied with this new version. Therefore the cards can easily get scattered around if you are not careful (particularly after a few glasses of wine)
I wanted to buy this after Christmas but it seemed to be sold out everywhere, so I was happy to be able to order it on Amazon. The game is great. Its the UK version with both modern and older questions. I noticed there was a few errors in some questions, such as what island is a famous jumper made, which is located off the west coast of Ireland. Well obviously I had no idea, didn’t know there was any islands off the WEST coast of Ireland. The answer was Arran, which is off the west coast of SCOTLAND!
We’ve got the original “Genus” edition from way back, so it was nice to get a fresh set of questions. Unlike some other reviews, we don’t agree that it’s been dumbed down but has a good range of questions for all the family so that teenagers as well as adults can enjoy it equally. And that is the point – it’s a family game, not one that’s loaded in favour of more experienced adults who will always win.
It could certainly do with more questions though – there are only 400 cards, so that’s 2400 questions in total. We’ve played it quite a few times and the same questions are now starting to come up again, especially as you can easily get through around half of them in a game with 4 people playing.
Another missed opportunity is the lack of card holders – there are 4 piles of questions which can’t be held very securely in the box, so if you put it on its side when storing away, be prepared for a bit of a mess when you open it again! Elastic bands will solve the problem though. But it would have been nice to have something to put them in while playing, instead of passing piles of loose cards around.
The board itself is very plain. The original had nice illustrations in each space covering all the categories but this new version just has plain, solid colours, which is pretty boring in comparison.
Nevertheless, the game is still good fun and I think you’ll enjoy it if you’re a fan of the original.
Our family has had an ancient Trivial Pursuit set for several decades. The questions in the old one were now so obsolete and outdated we never played it, so I bought this for my dad for Christmas to replace it.
My siblings and I are in our late twenties/thirties, and my parents are in their sixties. We all found questions that appealed to us and challenged us. Some very tricky, and enough that were easy and guessable to still make it enjoyable. My mum of course had a moan that there weren’t enough classic general knowledge questions in there, and too many questions that “in 20 years time no one will ever know”, but she’s just grumpy that she lost 😉
I disagree with her — there’s plenty here for the whole family, especially if you have an even broader range than us. It’s a lovely update, with the same classic styling. Will definitely be getting it back out next Christmas!
