This is the first series spin off from the highly acclaim Game Of Thrones. This plot is set almost 180 years before the birth of Denyearis Tygerian (Game of Thrones). Great acting and wonderful entertainment. If you enjoyed Game of Thrones, well, you also have to get this.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOne of the best shows. I actually think it’s either on par with game of thrones or even better. Characters are great and so are the actors. And the age change is great as the casting is fantastic. The CGI is just incredible and the make up team for viserys is just wow.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersYou buy a 4k set because you have a 4k TV (ideally OLED) and a sound system to show it off (e.g Atmos surround). Thankfully the set compliments these thing very well. It’s a gorgeous looking show that clearly has a massive budget. The bonus? It’s actually a good show too, great actors and well written. It was rightly a success for HBO and they’ve put out a quality set to do it proud. The only downer? No commentaries, however this hasn’t been a thing for a while. It’s just a shame as I remember Game of Thrones sets back in the day getting one or even two per episode sometimes.

The added extra making of’s are well put together and insightful though ultimately inessential versus the main event. I rarely return back to making of’s personally so see them only as another nice added bonus to add to the overall value.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI was eagerly anticipating the release of House of the Dragon, and I can honestly say that it exceeded all of my expectations. The first season is a masterful work of television, with incredible writing, acting, and production values that make it one of the best shows of 2022.

The story takes place in the world of Game of Thrones, but it has a fresh and unique feel to it that sets it apart from the original series. The characters are complex and engaging, with their own motivations and desires that drive the plot forward. The performances by the cast are outstanding, with standout performances by Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith as the Targaryen siblings Rhaenyra and Viserys.

What impressed me most about House of the Dragon was the attention to detail in the production design. The sets, costumes, and special effects all combine to create a fully realized world that feels both familiar and new. The action sequences are breathtaking, and the dragons are rendered with incredible realism and detail.

Overall, House of the Dragon is a must-watch for any fan of fantasy or television in general. It’s a thrilling, epic adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this incredible show, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an immersive and exciting viewing experience.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our Usersis an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood, the series is set about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen Conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons

House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season.

The first season received highly positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, visual effects, writing, score by Ramin Djawadi and performances (particularly Considine, Smith, D’Arcy, Alcock, and Cooke). However, the pacing, specifically of the time jumps, and the dark lighting of some scenes were criticized. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers across the linear channels and HBO Max on the first day, the biggest in HBO’s history. In January 2023, the series won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series — Drama.

It’s good to be back in the land of Westeros with all the drama, in fighting and Dragons.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersDVD series, boxsets specifically are getting more and more expensive and they respond with cheap flimsy plastic and pile 5 discs on top of each other. Shame on HBO and Warner for joining in. First seasons of GOT and the 2 Romes had beautiful hard cases, what happened to those?
You can tell more and more the episodes written and directed by females. I’m a female but GOT this was not and I loved GOT, ending and all. And HOD is earlier in mentality than GOT yet less violence and sex.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersAs a series, myself and my partner really enjoyed this. Taking place before Game of Thrones, it takes you right back to the world of the Seven Kingdoms. There were times when the story had seemed to jump, and then you realise that so many years have passed since the last episode, so I have to admit to wanting to go through and watch all of this again, so that I don’t miss anything.
The reason that I have only awarded 4 stars is because of the DVD case; all 5 DVDs are stacked one on top of the other. This makes it a pain when trying to change DVDs, but it also makes me worried that they will be more prone to getting scratched/damaged. A couple of them did actually stick when we were viewing them, so I hope that this just doesn’t get worse.
Other than that, for all GoT fans, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhile not exactly competing with its predecessor just yet, House of the Dragon starts as a worthy prequel series to Game of Thrones, one of the greatest shows in television history, and my own personal favorite.

The story is rich just as you would expect, and the buildup to the big events coming is handled very well, with the first season only setting the tone and placing the pieces on the boards yet doing it in a very compelling way. This is probably the most excited I’ve been to a TV series since the original show finished its run in 2019.

The music by Ramin Djawadi is top notch as always, reusing themes from the original show just in the right amount while starting to introduce all the new themes and leitmotifs. All the other technical aspects are superb just as you would expect- VFX, Costumes, Set design, etc. Emmy’s are coming! And of course, the writing and directing- splendid.

The steelbook set is very well designed and looks amazing in the collection. I would highly recommend this version to everyone, and especially to people who aim to start a new collection to the up-and-coming new television phenomenon. The 4K quality is incredible, and the sound is as well. And again- design looks great.

I highly recommend this product, and in general recommend watching this show- especially if you loved the original show. But even if not, I’d still say it’s worth a shot. 5 stars.

4K Steelbook is fantastic, however, i was a little dissapointed in the casing/box that the whole set comes in. A standalone steel isn’t available, only this set. The casing is a flimsy, cardboard piece of ‘rubbish’ to be honest with you. Considering the quality of sets we got when GoT was released, i expected a-lot more.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersDVD set of HoD season 1. Great to see JRR Martin’s fantasy feudal world again and it looks fabulous and familiar (thank God, as it’s usually impossible to get different/later showrunners to keep with the original style and aesthetic of a show because they absolutely positively must put their stamp on it and impulsively pathologically change everything for no good reason at all). The story is set over a century before the events of GOTs and follows the Targaryen dynasty on the Iron Throne. It jumps forward several years between the start of the series and the middle part but does not lose the story thread. The actors cast look a little weird (compared with the pretty faces in GOT) and there’s plenty of representation for woke-ers. There’s some bonus content on disc 1 and 2, but none 3 and 4. Overall a great return to the most watched tv show on earth. I hope the excellent quality and standard is maintained throughout the run of this show and we don’t get a dumpster-fire ending like the universally despised season 8 of GOT. I also hope the showrunners will treat us to one or two flashback episodes set in Valyria before the Great Doom destroyed it, that place would be cool to see (beyond the scaled model that Viserys was making in his bedroom!).

Every now and again there is a film or series where the presence of a great actor inspires the performances of the rest of the cast. This is such a series. Paddy Considine’s performance as the flawed king is flawless. Around him the rest of the cast excel.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersWent into this with some trepidation as I loved Game Of Thrones and was worried if this could possibly live up to what many consider the greatest tv show ever made, certainly the biggest tv show ever made.

Is it as good as Thrones? No but it didn’t have to be, it just had to be good and it is much better than just good. It’s impossible not to compare the two shows but to suggest that, because a show isn’t quite as good as arguably the greatest show ever made, it’s tarnished somehow is ridiculous. It’s an amazing show in its own right.

The reason it isn’t quite as good as GOT is purely that it’s a much smaller story so far. It’s based really on one family and almost entirely in one location. It doesn’t have the epic scope of GOT with the huge cast of characters and tons of different locations.

What it is able to do though with a more intimate family story is just superb with the writing perhaps being even better than GOT. You hang on every word and every glance as this drama unfolds. The script is incredible, the acting is incredible, the costumes, armour and production values are just superb.

If you’re going to follow such an iconic show, you couldn’t do much better than this.

House Of The Dragon and Andor are both up there as my top shows of the year.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersFollowing the much followed 8-Season spectacle Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin’s
sequel Fire and Blood comes to our screens.
Many like myself, awaited this with some measure of excitement in an anticipation of
    what would unfold.
The Targaryen young receive a Dragon egg to be nurtured until hatched which
forms a bond with the young and their Dragons
It tells of the Targaryen rule some 200 years before Daenerys (mother of Dragons)
The seven kingdoms is ruled by Paddy Considine as King Viserys a man who as king has
strived to keep the peace, although he has craved to have a son as a successor his wife
had only given him a daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen ((young Milly Alcock older
    Emma D’Arcy.
The kings first wife will die during child birth, King Viserys sometime later would marry again
Alicent Hightower:(Olivia Cooke) childhood friend of the king’s daughter, who would in time
give King Viserys sons, however, after his first wives death he’d proclaimed to all that
his daughter Princess Rhaenyra would succeed him.
This initially upset the king’s brother and warrior Prince Consort Daemon Targaryen (Matt
Smith) who would eventually marry his Neice the king’s daughter after the tragic death of his first wife.
In turn the Princess Rhaenyra will already have by arrangement been married to ally
Lord Corlys Velaryon’s (Steve Toussaint) son who in truth had no interest in women, however, the Princess did before marriage to her uncle have two sons.
When the time comes, Princess Rhaenyra will be denied the throne because the dowager
queen believes with the king’s last words that he wishes for her eldest son should be crowned, Princess Rhaenyra reluctantly looks to accept this, however, a turn of events, tragic, will indeed change her mind…
the stage is set for the dance of the dragons-
Must admit, the storyline is not as powerful from the outset as Game of Thrones and in my
view has less prominent characters, though in my opinion Matt Smith is probably the most
significant, but there is time for this to change.
The c.g.i of the Dragons is frankly stunning (much of the series cost of course)
I myself recorded the series and watched it over 4/5 nights, sadly it will probably be around
two years before the second series

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIt’s not quite as gripping as the early episodes of Thrones, but it’s honestly not far off. In some ways, it actually far surpasses its parent show also. There is a narrower focus and as such we get much more nuanced characters and the plotting (the political schemings, the layers of dynamite-laden conflict woven in and bristling more and more against each other) is very deep and intellectually satisfying. As expected, the proverbial starts to hit the fan towards the latter half of the season, though we’ll have to wait until the next for the fireworks to truly start.

Like Thrones, there are several jawdropping set pieces (and the opening sequence to the second half of the show and one very memorable walk are as emotive as anything that came before). It’s a very dark show, not just with the lighting, and the acting is simply breathtaking at times. (Paddy Considine is surely a certainty for the Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy.) The cinematography is sublime, the score (as you’d expect from Ramin Djawadi) knocks it out of the park and it is definitley worth watching more than once. 5/5 absolutley brilliant TV.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersI always loved the care put into the original GoT Blu-ray sets. Multiple audio commentaries per episode, many documentaries, many interviews, etc. This time, the price seems to have gone up, and the extra content seems to have gone way down, with only 70 minutes worth of EPK content. That’s not worth 50 pounds, I can get HBO for over a year for that. The show itself is great, and is worth your time and money. Just not this amount of money, for this amount of extra content.
