Installed this about 3 weeks ago and it has worked brilliantly up until yesterday when we’ve had our first rain. The sensor didn’t pick up that it was pouring down and continued to water the garden. So we manually switched it off.
Which is why only 4 stars

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have bought a couple of these items to support baskets front and back. They appear to work well for a few months/a season then give up. Through the winter I remove batteries and store away from the weather but this is the second time I’m having to return the item. I’d it up to the job?

We originally bought the electronic one that works through the App and it broke twice. This one has been 100% reliable and the sunrise and sunset feature is great. Highly recommended

I bought this as I’d previously had a similar one in my old house but left it with the irrigation system I’d put in for the new buyer.
    Always reliable.

Easy to set up. Got it all working before I went away for two weeks during the hottest July. Came back to herbs and pot plants that appear to have flourished.
Not sure on battery life as only had it working for a month.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up

Had the previous model which was very good but was a little more complex than the new model. This is a great improvement on the old but compared to other similar products on the market a little expensive. However it works is reliable and very easy to use and the quality very good.

Great idea for automatic watering of new turf etc. Let down by a poor quality tap connector. Thread would not tighten fully onto tap causing leak. Why they don’t use the standard Hoselock tap connector I don’t understand

In an age where everything is touchscreen, digital, and connected to apps, it’s refreshing to take something from the box that has 2 simple dials and just works exactly as it should without 3 hours of setup. Dead simple, perfectly reliable, does exactly what it says on the tin. Please don’t stop making things like this Hozelock!

Easy to use as it’s sensured to the light you only need to put it on how many’s days 1-7 then let it do your watering for you, it’s already cut my watering time by half,
May be a little more expensive but it’s doing it’s job, I’ve never used a timer system before so I’m impressed so fa

Bought this to turn on drip hose on new border plants. First one faulty. It did not recognise sunset although sunrise was fine and the ‘water now’ option didn’t work. Hoselock customer service was very helpful and identified a faulty chip over the phone. Sounds as though this fault was not unknown to them. Anyway as I had purchased through Amazon replacement was no problem. I particularly like Amazon’s policy of sending out replacements before they have received the return although they do (understandably) say if they don’t receive the returned item within a few days they will charge you for it. Buying via Amazon I find very easy especially if the seller is overseas. Refunds for unwanted/faulty goods are almost instantaneous.

Kept my garden watered over thebhot patch last year. Absolutely brilliant system. I’ll be extending it this year. My tip- forget in line sprinklers and go for 180 degree micro jets- they cover way more ground more thoroughly, and you can set it to come on for 20 or 30 mins just on a morning- gives the soil a chance to drain between showers

This is my second one of these as the first died after several years of service. Simple to operate and the batteries (2x AA) seem to last for months before needing to be replaced. The fact that the manual override now allows you to set how long you want to water for is an upgrade over my previous model and very welcome. Price is good for what it does.

Does just what is required to keep my pots alive while I am away from home.

Dials are clear and easy to set for sunrise, sunset, both and then the time that you want it to run. I married this up to a bit of hybrid system using some Gardena and other very cheap heads and pipes. It all works pretty well though.

Possibly my only concern is what happens when the batteries run out if it is on at the time.

This is saving me a lot of water as well. Using the hose I was getting through about 150ltrs watering my garden. Even with the watering can Inwas using 80-100 litres. This is using about 30 litres of water as the whole system is delivering to where the water is needed.

Excellent watering control devices. I got two more to compliment the two I have used for the past three years (and now have four differently timed watering systems in place). Simple to set up and reliable. The ‘plus one hour’ setting lets me have one on at dawn, one at dawn plus one hour, one at dusk, and one at dusk plus one hour so each system gets the full available water when on which was important for me as we have low supply pressure and rather low flow in from the mains.

I have waited for 12 months to review this item in view of the widely varying reports. I have found that this unit is very easy to set up, has been totally reliable and battery use has been reasonable, a new set is required every couple of months. Whilst this seems rather frequent it should be remembered that the unit operates twice a day during dry periods plus the manual on / off as required and AA batteries have only a small capacity. The great advantage of this unit is that there are no timers to set or adjust, the sensor just sorts it out.

Easy to set up and understand, reliably detects sunrise and sunset even mounted on a North facing wall. 2xAA Batteries don’t last as long as I would like but they’re easily accessible for swapping out. My pots baskets and toms get regular watering, are much less stressed, look a whole lot better and are more productive for it.

My Hozelock Sensor Controller Plus is now in its second year of use and has performed very well. I was initially skeptical as the battery compartment is not sealed against the elements, but I haven’t has any problems. Very simple to use and the daylight sensor makes watering at optimum times a doddle.

One set of AA high-power batteries lasted one season, I see others have had problems here so there may be the quality control issues that are common enough with Hozelock products or possibly the use of sub-standard batteries. One thing – it’s important that these sort of devices are not left connected or with batteries fitted during freezing conditions as they will break quickly.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersThis is one of the best gadgets I ever bought so the garden so far. I pride myself in have a nice garden and this Auto Sprinkler will make some of you have a good laugh at times, I have 2 daughters ” 20 & 18 ” and because I in their eyes have a nice garden, they invite all of their friends round to what is now called Pre-Drinks to our garden and despite me telling them about this sprinkler, they tend to ignore you anyway up until the point were it came on itself. I have never saw 7 girls move as fast in my life, I was in tears laughing but they know it all these days.
Anyway the way you can set this up is great for my needs and as you can read from other reviews, its a great job. Before it arrived I always had a drip from the from the tap anyway and I fixed it the best I could but there is still a slight drip but I just put a bucket under the tap now to use a small water but for water for my greenhouse.
I cant understand why some reviewers say its bad quality as I think its fine. I have mine set to come on at sunrise / sunset for 10 minutes 5 days a week and it works a treat.
It was very easy to set up although the instructions could do with being in larger print as I had trouble reading them even with glasses on but thats just me.
I dont have to put up any pictures this time as the rest of the reviews has that covered.
I would give this product a sold 10 /10 and its great value for money and I even read somewhere that there`s a WiFi version that works of your mobile in an app form.
    UPDATE: 20/5/2019
On the week of good weather in May, I decided to bring out the Hozelock Sensor Controller Plus from the shed as I had just reseeded the lawn and had set it up correctly as usual when indeed it didn’t automatically work in the morning and at night. So as it was past its 1 year guarantee I had 2 choices, either do it manually or buy a new one but I decided to put new batteries in it just in case it was that and low and behold it worked as normal. Now even though the old batteries was able to turn it on manually they didn’t work the sensor part. Im just glad I put new batteries in it before I chucked it.
So always put new batteries in it the following year just in case you find it not working people. It might just save you buying another model and spending a lot of cash you didn’t have too.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a fantastic bit of kit and works well. I am using it with the Hozelock Easy Drip Micro Kit and two Harcostar 227 litre Water Butt & Raintrap Diverter + Stand s which collect the rainwater from the greenhouse and are joined together with one inch hose. The hozelock connection on the water butts leaked, so I connected my 3/4 inch hose to the water butt tap with a jubilee clip. The other end of the 3/4 inch hose connects to the controller with a standard Hozelock connector. The outflow from the controller goes through the pressure reducer (use this, even with water butts) and filter to the 4mm hose which is fed through a small hole drilled in the bottom of the greenhouse. The system has been running for a couple of weeks now and the fifteen drippers are watering tomato plants, melons, cape goosberries, blueberries, a passion flower and our grandson’s sunflower. I’m quite confident it will continue to so so even when we are on holiday. It takes a little bit of experimenting to get the flow rate of the drippers right, but it’s worth the effort.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving previously invested in the Cloud Connected Hozelock controller, I was annoyed about not being able to add more tap connectors and the cost of expanding the system, so I purchased this to try. For simple dawn / dusk it’s much better than the cloud controller (which can’t even do auto dawn/dusk!). It’s easy to set (top dial is how many days between watering, bottom is dawn or dusk or both and duration) and works really well. I’ve now pretty much given up on the cloud controller as a gimmick so I’ll be getting more of these for my system. It won’t be any good if you want a specific scheduled time or if you can’t have it outside so it can see daylight.

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersI’ve used this for a year. It’s construction is robust. The reason I bought it and I stand by it is that it has no digital display. It only has three buttons: no menu to fiddle through in the sunlight, no tiny buttons that will get clogged with dirt from my gloved fingers.
The dials are self-explanatory. The thing the user needs to get used to is how much water comes out for the programmed setting. Does it drown the plants or leave them parched? A couple of days of experimenting with the results and I happily left it on its own for the whole summer. The manual over-ride can also be used to top up or test the unit for a few seconds during set up.
That is the only function that takes a bit of thought. It’s a small grey button at the bottom of the unit. Press and hold and it will turn the three LEDs into a battery meter to show how much juice is left in the battery; press strongly and briefly once and it will give you ten minutes of water (while you walk away and forget about it). One or two things that I found confusing about this function is that a) you have to press strongly and b) nothing happens for about two seconds, making me think I didn’t press it properly, so I press again, which means I am now getting 20 mins of water. c) the mode cycles through 10, 20, 30, Off in that order, so you have to be observant as to how many times you’ve pressed it so that you know what it’s doing.
The instructions say the batteries (2 x AA) will last a season and should be refreshed every season, but mine were hardly depleted after the summer’s work.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersHaving read the reviews about the previous Hozelock sensor, I was glad to see that a newer version was available. No reviews yet so I thought I’d better get one done. I’ve had the controller for a week now and so far, so good. Easy to set up. Literally unscrewed our Hozelock hose from the tap and put this onto the tap and then popped the hose onto the bottom and plugged it in.

Timer has lots of different settings. You can schedule the watering every day, 2 days, 3 days, 5 days or weekly. The time for watering can be set for 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes. We’ve set ours up for daily, for 10 minutes which is adequate for our vegetables in the garden (the picture shows it set for once a week, 10 minutes in the evening only as an example).

There is a ‘drip’ button you can press for watering outside those times and depending which lights go on (you press it multiple times) you can water for 60 minutes, 30 minutes or 10 minutes. There is a daylight sensor so the unit waters at sunrise and sunset (which apparently are the optimum times for watering).

Clear instruction book with the timer and hope it will last for a long time. Takes 2 AA batteries (not supplied). Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timer with multiple watering/time options
