Purchased to replace a finally wore out a Dotco angle grinder that was over 35 years old and used Daily! Seems to be a great replacement so far. Dislike the safety trigger but it is what it is and hopefully breaks off before it’s removed
Really good Die grinder. I have been able to strip paint and remove rust (see picture) in about 5-10 minutes on edge shears.
Little minuses: no instructions at all on how to use and oil the die. No oil that comes with it , then make sure you buy 10 weight air tool oil with your purchase. Last one is that it requires a really good compressor. I have a 5cfm@90psi and the rotation is not constant, but still really like it for sanding. Would not cut metal with that compressor use an angle grinder to cut metal.
Also please read about diff between dremel vs die grinder vs angle grinder. They are all different and used for different purposes.
Bonjour,
I’ve only used this once so far. I still oil it and fire it up on the air line from time to time to make sure its working. I started replacing my older air tools with IR air tools and so far they work great. I have both this angle grinder and the straight grinder for whatever may come down the road (better safe than sorry). I also have a few of their air ratchets as I do my own automotive work.
For the price you can’t really beat it. I mostly work on my own vehicles so these don’t see the normal abuse as they would in a shop environment but they are still holding up after at least 6-7 years of ownership.
Utilis pour du bricolage amateur mais intense, je suis satisfait de cet outil.
Il fait le travail efficaceme
I grabbed this guy a while back and use it in the automotive industry. It’s been holding up well, and it’s been getting the job done. I use it to remove surface rust on metal parts. It weighs almost nothing. It doesn’t jerk my hand around with the torque so I’d say it’s easy to control. This little guy is a great pick up for anyone.
If you are looking for a good one this is it I have been using it for a couple months now and yes I have used the Martco and snap on ones the heigher value ones and yes it does not have the same power it does what it’s supposed to do I use mine to clean rotors or wheels or a hub or anything that is rusty or dirty and I want it clean this is perfect and affordable for most people.
You buy cheap, you buy twice. This rule is true for a whole lot of things but it’s especially true for power tools.
I spent a lot of time researching which die grinder to buy for use with my new 200L compressor. Since I already have other Ingersoll Rand tools, I figured it would be a good idea to look at their range.
This 5208MAX is a quality bit of kit. It’s quite compact but very powerful indeed. It will spin grinding stones, cutting discs, carbide burrs and sanding wheels/discs without any issues at all. Work on steel or aluminium it doesn’t matter, this thing powers on.
Make sure you are feeding it 90PSI working pressure (not 90PSI when idle) and it will scream. In my testing this is considerably more powerful than a dremel and obviously has a larger Chuck/shank size as well. You will need a compressor capable of at least 6CFM to really let this tool work properly.
You’ll need a couple of spanners to tighten up the Chuck, as well as your own air fitting. Be sure to oil this tool before every use as well to prolong its life.
Air tools are certainly not dead.
I use this for work and it is used daily. I don’t have much use for the exhaust hose that comes with it. But the grinder itself is a beast! If you want something with some power spend the extra bucks and quit messing with the cheap stuff. You definitely get what you pay for.
I ordered this tool to do a brake job on my daughter-in-law’s car. It is a great product and would have made the job a lot easier, but Amazon missed the scheduled delivery date by several days. I had to do the work this tool was bought for by hand with sand paper and a wire brush. Lesson learned, you can’t rely on the promised delivery date. So I’ll have it for the next brake job. Disappointed I didn’t get is in time though. I’d mark it down but that isn’t really fair to the product, which is as advertised. Remind me, why am I paying for Prime delivery again?
Compact size works well for me. It’s not a powerful die grinder but suitable for use with sanding discs, etc. were heavy pressure and cutting is not needed. The safety lever spring is a little stronger than I would like but I can modify it to reduce the effort needed to press it out of the way and operate the paddle lever.
Short version: I bought two of these in Feb 2018 for use at my business. They’re still going strong and work great.
Long version: The HF cheapie die grinders are fine for the guy at home using them once in a blue moon, but they don’t hold up at all for regular use. I wanted to get something better than the HF junk but was not willing to spend hundreds for a true “industrial” model. These have fit the bill perfectly.
Both units are primarily used with roloc pads doing general metalwork. One has a 3″ roloc and is primarily rough sanding. The other has a 2″ roloc with some sanding but is primarily used for deburring and polishing with scotchbrite pads. For how we use them power is never an issue but speed modulation is very important. These have been great for that. Interestingly, the more expensive IR models I considered have multiple reviews complaining about a lack of speed control, but I’ve had no complaints with this model.
The front exhaust has been a plus for our use. But, I do not have auto-oilers on our shop lines. We just manually add a few drops once in a while (probably far less frequently than we should). They are not used all day every day like a production fab shop, but they definitely see daily use. Honestly though, if you’re using a tool for multiple hours every day you should be buying WAY more expensive industrial level air tools.
As others have mentioned, the collets do have a tendency to stick. This hasn’t really been an issue for us. We’re not changing things that often and when we do they break loose with a tap after loosening the nut sufficiently.
In summary, at this price point I can’t imagine a better bang for the buck. They’re good quality yet still very affordable. Speed modulation is great. They are compact and light weight. They have a study, solid feel to them, not loose and sloppy like the HF tools. I will definitely buy these again if we need more.
Bought 6 months ago has held up well under heavy daily use
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the tool. The construction of this grinder is phenomenal, but i have some gripes.
Philosophy of Use – the GO TO metal prep tool.
1. Initial quality – very impressive. The tool has a very nice finish and comes in a sturdy box with manual, tools, and extra collet. It is reminiscent of some $400.00+ tools that i have purchased in the past. The finish is so good that i thought a more expensive model was sent by mistake.
2. Operation – very impressive. The tool sips on air and does not drain my 15 gallon tank too fast. High speed operation with zip disks is great. Rust flew off the metal during initial testing. Additional drawback is that you have to store the wrenches somewhere and not lose the. The space between the tool body and collet nut is narrow and I am not sure if a standard wrench will fit to tighten or loosen the nut.
3. Ergonomics – adequate. The tool is too small for my hands. I was unable to get a good grip on it to keep up with the torque on uneven surfaces. I was not wearing gloves. (ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES) so this may change with gloves. This small size could be a plus though it you are working in tight spaces.
4. Durability – unknown. i will update but based on build quality i bet it will last a lifetime.
5. Overall Customer Satisfaction – Impressive! I recommend you buy this! This tool is so nice i wanted to cuddle with it at night.
