Product Details
Johnstone’s Quick Dry Gloss is a high opacity gloss paint for interior and exterior wood and metal surfaces, including skirting boards, doors, radiators and staircases. The water based, low odour formulation is non-yellowing, easy to apply and quick drying.
Preparation
All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from grease. Remove any loose or flaking paint. Rub down sound glossy surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly to provide a key. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Prime bare surfaces with an appropriate Johnstone’s primer. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
Application
Ensure maximum ventilation during application and drying. Stir well before use and apply by brush or roller. For best results load the brush or roller. Apply liberally and evenly for a smooth finish, avoid overspreading. Under normal conditions the paint is touch dry in 1-2 hours. Allow 3-4 hours before applying a second coat if required. Do not apply when air or surface temperature is below 10ºC or in damp conditions.
Cleaning
Replace lid firmly after use. Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before cleaning. Clean equipment immediately after use in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. To avoid the risk of spillage, always store and transport in a secure upright position. Do not empty waste paint into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

Was looking for a quick turn around on drying time as I needed to get a bedroom done within a few days. This worked much better than a solvent based type I had previously used. Much easier to clean up too
This quick drying Gloss Brilliant white Paint, is Brilliant, so much so I’ve just ordered another tin very very pleased with the results, And the safe packaging it came it came in very pleased indeed, excellent service and delivered with care.
Fantastic paint. dries quicker than quoted, ideal for those paint jobs at home where you have children and pets that always seen to get covered in it, easy to brush on washes out of the brush easy, I will be getting more paint from this company.
I’ve been slowly painting over our bannisters and skirting boards and this paint has been perfect. It’s not streaky and it’s easy to apply. Our can has been open for weeks now and it’s still fresh.
I’ve been using water based gloss in favour of oil based for some 30 years now, to avoid yellowing. I’ve tried many brands and in recent years settled on Aldi’s ‘Deco’ brand as it gave a reasonable satin gloss finish at a reasonable price. For my latest decorating project I’ve used this Johnstones white gloss and to my surprise, for the first time in 30 years I’ve achieved a true gloss finish. To achieve a high gloss finish I had to apply 3 top coats, the last coat being a relatively heavy coat and applied it with a high quality ‘T Class Definition’ paint brush. I’m astonished at the results. This will be my go to white gloss from now on.
The paint is great to use. Lovely finish and dries after 3/4 hours. Marked it down because the tin arrived with dents in the bottom and a large dent in the side.
Great quality paint. Goes on well, and with a decent quality brush a good finish is achievable. Not a gloss finish, more satin, but this is fine for me for the convenience of a water base. Oh, and quick drying and very low odour.
The above title says it all such a fabulous product, covers well, I little goes a long way, dries fast, excellent finish, and cleaning your brushes is a breeze, just rinse them in cold water!
Have used this product many times, handles and covers well, especially useful if you need to get the job dry quickly! Also non-yellowing unlike oil based products, easy cleaning as well
Much better than other water based gloss i have used. Like all water based gloss, not as glossy as oil based, but good enough. Very runny, so you have to be careful not to drip, but that does mean that it is less prone to showing brush marks. Needed two coats on old yellowed gloss paint. All in all would recomend and, most importantly would buy again.
Nothing fancy just a good traditional white gloss paint that goes on with no hassles, dries to a smooth gloss finish with no fuss and no variation in quality or visible brush marks you could pay a lot more and end up with a less professional job can’t fault it best I’ve brought in a long while
Great paint, especially if you’re doing many areas as it practically odour free and drys very quickly.
It isn’t a high shine gloss, which is good as I prefer this.
The only down side is it’s not particularly hard wearing, so in areas where it may get knocked easily I will put a coat of varnish over the top for protection.
All in all a great gloss alternative.
I bought this paint mainly because it’s water based rather than oil. There is no strong paint smell – in fact no smell at all. It goes on easily and dries quickly. It doesn’t have a really shiny finish. In fact, the finish is quite matt. However, it is a good flat finish and is a brilliant white. Brushes wash really easily under the tap. I was so pleased with it that this is my second tin.
The first time I’ve used water based gloss paint, positives are no smell, easy to clean the brushes and any spills. I found it hard to get a smooth finish as I was used to using other paints, I tried a number of brushes but there are still brush marks left as it dried. It dried really quickly (a few hours) so made a quicker job overall. Might buy it again but might stick to oil based gloss paint next time for the better finish.
