I live in Kent where we have had a hosepipe ban for over a month now.
I was concerned about how effective this would be after reading some of the reviews, because I have a 6m extension hose on my Kaercher K4.
I attached the filter end to a brick with cable ties and sunk it to the the bottom of one of our 100l water butts, before attaching the hose to the K4. I sucked the water up and covered the end with my thumb before attaching it to the machine.
Within a second or two the machine had come up to pressure and it was ready to use.
I washed one car with it and the machine seemed to prefer the water butt to mains pressure. To wash a Ford puma, with two rinses used about 30l. By using rainwater from a water butt, I also got nice, soft water to wash our cars with, which is another advantage.
I cannot fault this product and I will never go back to washing our cars with mains water.
If you like to have clean cars, this is a must have!
I’m very pleased with this purchase. It’s does the job very well. I would like to recommend this to anyone who don’t have water supply outside their property. You will need to have a bucket of water and you can use your pressure washer.:)
Follow the instructions, tips, and guidance from other buyers, particularly with regards to priming etc. Good tip for me, with the hose having a coil “memory”, was to use a spare drainpipe to run the hose inside to reach the bottom of the butt.
Fantastic product! I drop it into my water butt, takes a moment or two to get going but once it is it’s brilliant. Works just as well as a hose attachment. Really would recommend this product!
Bought this as we were subject to a hosepipe ban . Very pleased with the product. It’s not cheap, but on the other hand it is a quality item. In use it works absolutely fine. Be aware before use as another reviewer helpfully pointed out that the pipe needs filling with water BEFORE turning the pressure washer on. This helps prevent damage to the pressure washer and also helps the suction process.
My only other tip is make sure you use a large car washer bucket as a reservoir as the water goes very quickly when in use !?!
Great quality hose, excellent for people who don’t have an outside tap or be more mobile with the jet wash.
Also a big money saver when it comes to water bills as we use ours with the water butt’s in the garden, and if we need to be more mobile we use the 20L water container, we did have to cut a big hole in it as the hose filter was bigger then we thought.
We do use it with a Karcher K2 compact we just have to fill the hose first so it’s not just sucking up air, people call this priming the hose.
Bought the Karcher K4 specifically so that I could use this suction tube to use collected water from butts. I was nervous, as I’d read reviews suggesting it was difficult to get working and one review saying that it wouldn’t provide enough power to clean paving and pathways.
I’m glad to say that there was no need to be nervous. Once I’d primed the tube (thanks to some reviewers for highlighting this) it worked beautifully. I cleaned a path along the side of our garage which was caked in mud, moss and algae built up over many years using rainwater from a trug (or plaster’s bucket). It worked perfectly. It took a couple of hours and I used about a hundred litres of rainwater but really chuffed with it’s performance.
Only gave it 4 stars as the tube is desperate to stay coiled so is a little difficult to handle and the device supplied to stop the tube from flipping out of your bucket is truly pathetic!
Works absolutely fine with my K2 – officially its not supported, and others have had mixed experiences.
It does go through water quickly (about a buckets worth per one side length of a car), and takes a while to prime itself for full strength, but overall its worth getting for the price.
Great value for money, a great addition to my jet wash.
Gives me the option to get the water from a bucket.
Would have been nice if Karcher made it with the quick release, this was a screw-on option.
Bought this to go with new karcher k4 had no problems apart from the curling issue which an old heavy spanner tied to the end sorted out went from bucket to bucket with no repriming I only sucked some through halfway along pipe at start went through two water tubs to clean patio with no loss of power as far as I concerned love it good piece of kit.
The hose stays in the bottom of the bucket simply by using the bucket handle to hold the hose in place against the rim of the bucket. Allows you to use hot water for car washing etc.
Can also use to take water from waterbutts.
Dont see why the bad reviews on this. Doesn’t keep coiling up and to get it going just put it in the water and suck it till water is flowing. Serves its purpose.
Ok, it’s not as good as a hose but when there is no alternative it’s a brilliant addition. Submerge in a bucket first, and it still takes a bit of time to draw water through but once it’s going it’s brilliant. For the car cleaners I use a 50l bucket. Takes two fills for a quick clean and rinse.
Was a bit worried about some of the negative reviews but this worked well from my water butt to a series 4.99 Karcher pressure washer.
I simply tied a heavy weight onto the filter end of the hose ensuring that the weight was 6 inches lower than the filter end so it would not disturb any sediment at the bottom of the water butt. I then syphoned by sucking the threaded end of the hose to get a decent water flow without air and quickly screwed it onto the machine water inlet.
Worked brilliantly and used the equivalent of 4 normal sized buckets of water to wash and rinse the car.
The hose is difficult to straighten fully when new after being coiled in its box so the weight to hold it in a water butt needs to be heavy. I used a lump hammer.
Very pleased and being on a water meter it helps with the bill and water saving.
Good for the water butts however had to tie a weight to the end to make it sink as the coil would not easily straighten out. Will fit a piece of plastic overflow pipe to keep it straight. Perhaps leave straightened part in sun to remove coil. I had to fill from hose connection to enable siphon effect before switching on jet wash. Could do with a 2 litre syringe to start! (Business opportunity there!)
In the small print of Karcher K4 instructions. It is recommended that an extension cord of 10-meters length should have a cross-section of 1.5mm. A 30-meter length should have a cross-section of 2.5mm.
Apparently it is possible to damage power tools when using incorrect cables. … who knew?.. not me. perhaps karcher should have made more of a point of this fact instead of hiding information away in the small print.
I find you got to prime it before connecting it to the power wash.
I just half fill the pipe with water from the tap and then connect it too the power washer and put one end in bucket of water and after 20 secs the karcher primes the rest.
The pressure it slightly weaker then using a hose pipe from the tap but it’s ideal for washing the car where you don’t want the pressure be too high as it can damage the car window seals if your not careful.
If you intend too wash the block paving I find the pressure is not strong enough when the water is been sucked from a bucket.
It does take the hassle out of unwinding a hose pipe.
Obviously the main use of the hose is to use your pressure washer where you can’t get hose attached.
My car is away from my house so i have to use a VERY LONG extension lead to power my Karcher K4 pressure washer and i cant really use a hose connected to my outside tap because of the length!. Hence the reason for buying this suction hose, so i can use a bucket or BIG jerry can bottle(yet to buy!).
Anyway after getting this item through the post i have had a absolute nightmare trying to get this hose to work. I have read that just put the filter end in the water and it will suck it up, IT WILL NOT do that!, i have tried!!!!. I then “primed” the hose full of water, but yet again it WILL NOT suck any water through the pipe. Even just letting run for a minute as others have said still does not do anything. In fact earlier on trying to do this my pressure washer got so hot it shut down and wouldn’t start for a good 10 minutes(the machine is water cooled!).
This is what i figured out that works 100% every time i do it!. The main reason this WILL NOT prime properly is the filter on the end is restricting the flow of the water!. IMO to start off the machine needs maximum water flow to enter the pump to then build up pressure which in turn starts the “sucking” process!.
What i do is………………..
1. Take off the filter on the end of the hose(give a small twist and it comes of easy)
2. Place all the hose in the water to prime it as normal
3. Wait for the hose to fill with water, as seen by the air bubbles escaping(Because the filter is off, the water flow in the hose is A LOT better)
4. When done connect to the machine
5. Turn on and press the trigger on the gun
6. Again because the filter is off you will see the water being sucked into the machine faster and it will build up pressure
7. Reattach the filter and you are good to go!
I tried this 5 times in a row and EVERY time it worked for me 100%
If you plan to use this method in a water butt i would suggest priming the hose in a bucket of clean water first, then after you reattach the filter you can then put it in the water butt. I think once the machine has sucked water and built up pressure you should be able to move the hose into another water source!
Anyway there you go. I’ve gone from hating it, to loving it, once i sussed it out lol
5 STARS
EDIT, 20/01/2019 – Used the suction hose for the 1st time cleaning the car with the aid of a 30L plasterers bucket i got from B&Q and it worked like a charm!. In all i filled up the bucket 3 times(1 for doing the snow foam, 2nd for rinsing the snow foam off, then the 3rd for rinsing the car shampoo off). Just make sure the water doesn’t run out of the hose before re-filling your bucket as you will have to prime it again!
Shall be using all sorts of recycled water to use, great product.
Saves money by allowing you to use a water but to supply the Karcher. The 5m length is fairly short (you need to be close to the water but) and the inlet doesn’t say near the bottom of the water but. Suggest you tie the inlet to something heavy so it sits near the bottom.
Wish I had bought a longer version, For water butt use a large filter would be useful I had to improvise one as the small filter in the pressure washer soon clogged. Also need to weight the end to keep it low in the water. Once you master getting all the air out of the hose there was no problem with water pressure to the pressure washer even from a low level water butt.
