The film flies by as fast as the cars, a thoroughly enjoyable and totally engaging piece of film making. How Ford motor company beat the “unbeatable” Ferrari in the 24hrs Le Mans using ingenuity, resilience, guile, a shed load of money and Ken Miles’ driving brilliance. Enjoy the ride!

This was already a great Story before it became a film, the film tells the story well with quite a bit of poetic licence and i can happily watch it many times over.

The 4K picture on this is amazing , by far the best picture of any film i have ever watched.

What’s not to like with a memorable film supplied in both Blu-ray & 4K HD formats.

Quite a long movie but plenty to keep a petrol head interested. Bale plays Ken Miles well. Beautiful cars from a golden age of motoring.

Saw this I think on Sky or something and loved it so had to buy the UHD version simply because I knew it would look stunning and it does! Perfect 4k transfer and an excellent film.

I was completley taken aback by the two leading artist, but of course this is to be expressly, taken for granted giving the continuing improvements for the fine arts in the present days, such work’s of art are few and far between.
A great film and wonderful acting

This story really sheds light onto what is entailed in trying to win at Le Mans, let alone to beat Ferrari. The acting was superb and at times I was so engrossed that it seemed as if I was actually feeling their emotions.
If you like motor-racing then this is a ‘must see’.

Was it going to be a boring thing about racing saloon cars, we wondered. Thin plot and turn-up-for-the-money acting.
No ! A fairly gripping and pretty interesting (true) story. Matt Damon carried off portraying an icon in Carroll Shelby, but it seems a somewhat dull one. Christian Bale was just a little over the top but it also seems this matched the mercurial English driver Ken Miles.
    Recommended, even for non-petrolheads!

An involving movie that will appeal to petrol heads, but will also draw in viewers that are not interested in motorsports. I really enjoyed it, the film made me dig a little deeper into a story that I had previously known little about. I also liked the way that the role of Ken Miles’ wife was fleshed out to make her more than just a bit-part player in the film. An engaging story well told.

A lot has been said already about this film. Personally, I thought it brilliant from start to finish. The acting, the action, the race scenes, the story, all brilliant. I know it’s not the entire story, and has been Hollywoodized, but it only makes me want to discover the true story. One of the best motor sports film ever made!!

Fantastic movie but as a prime member to be charged almost 10 with no option to rent personally I think it’s disgraceful. Unlike Netflix where you pay a subscription and then all movies are free prime elects to charge for the majority of any halfway decent movie. Prime also from time to time remove TV series that originally are free and then start to charge them members for them and they also then remove them from your watchlist.
Dexter is a prime example a series that has now been removed and is now charged for and in order to obtain the full series now on prime the cost is something in the region of 50.

It’s the story of how Ford eventually beat Ferrari in the world’s most important sports car race. It is based on fact, and majors on the apparent conflicts between three real people, ace driver expatriate-Englishman Ken Miles, Ford’s principal team manager Carroll Shelby, and Ford’s “hatchet man” Leo Beebe. It is dramatised – VERY dramatised – and considerable liberties are taken with the truth, in order to make it a more entertaining movie. The conflicts between players are greatly overdone, and poor Leo Beebe is most unjustly portrayed as a villain he never was. I won’t go in to the historical inaccuracies, of which there are a bucket-load, but I look at it this way: If you know the true story, you’ll just laugh at the errors and enjoy the movie action anyway, and if you don’t know the true story you’ll neither know nor care what is true and what isn’t, and you’ll still enjoy this fast-paced movie, which will give you a good idea of what sports-car racing was all about. I’m very pleased I have bought it.

Awesome film … one HUGE exception is Bale trying to do an English accent … this is up there with the worst ever, even Dick Van Dyke would be ashamed of that. It utterly ruins it for me – this could have been epic.
Matt Damon is brilliant – end on a high

Excellent story, rich performances, video-audio quality one of the best 4K releases i own ( an i own a lot ). I truly enjoyed buying and watching this film. Video has that slight, grain effect but it only adds depth to the film and gives the feel is was made back in the day the story unfolds. Audio is amazing and gives you the ” i am there ” emotion, superb. If you love supercars, the feel for speed and to live to some aspect legendary events, why are you still reading this. Buy it now.

Highly entertaining, have watched DVD about a dozen times, I saw a Black GT40 a very long time ago in a showroom in Brighton. My friends and I discussed what parts of our anatomy we would give for it. Fantastic car. Was a bit concerned about Matt Damon acting the part of Shelby but his performance was believable. I heard a story of ‘them’ testing Cobras’ or GT40’s on the M1 before the 70 mph restrictions came in.

I’m wary of racing movies in case they turn out like Driven. But luckily, Le Mans 66 is an absolute gem and up there with the best.

Christian Bale’s performance is astonishing, the cars and circuits look great and the sound effects are superb.

Two tiny things bug me though. First is that a lot of the racing is captured from the camera following close to the cars. So while they’re moving fast you’re basically seeing them inch up on each other. It would have been nice to see more static shots of the cars passing at full chat.

The second thing is something that’s in a lot of racing movies and movies with racing scenes. And that’s the characters describing what’s happening in the race to the people around them, for the benefit of the viewer. It sounds really forced. These are things that irk me about the genre and nothing hugely detrimental to this movie.

    A really great movie.

Saw this at the cinema and loved it. Watched it with my family who also loved it. General all round good viewing, especially if you have an interest in motor sports. Brilliant performances from Matt and Christian as always, they work well together. All the people moaning about lack of accuracy to the real events need to remember this is an entertainment production, not a documentary. There are loads of factual books and clips about Le Mans, get those instead ! Brilliant film, well made and very entertaining.

OK, so this film is likely to appeal most to fans of motor racing but there is more to it than that. It succeeds on both the automotive and human levels, exploring the pressures and politics of motor racing in the 1960s, the tensions on and off circuits as they affected racing drivers, the rivalry between the Ford and Ferrari teams and their executives and the family of one of the principal characters and their interactions together. It is a very rounded film deserving of a wider audience than just motor racing aficionados. And it is based on a true story. Terrific film!

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI am something of a motor racing fan but view and judge this sort of film as entertainment rather than a documentary. As usual there have been comments from those that would prefer the accuracy of a documentary, I am enough of an anorak to see why that would have its place but in the final analysis I prefer to be entertained and would tolerate poetic licence.

Of course, this was always going to be a Hollywoodised version of history showing how the good ol’ boys take it to the Europeans but there are several layers in the story. If you look and listen hard enough you will see that the first version of the car was built in England but that Ford used an engine with insufficient power. That enabled the plot to develop where Miles, Shelby and the team added the bigger engine and developed the aero to take a semi-controllable beast with the new engine and get it through corners.

I thought that the politicking with Ford could have done without the portrayal of Leo Beebe as being quite that slimy; the story would have stood up well enough without engendering that antipathy and that spoilt it for me. This was not Shelby/Ford v Ford Suits v Ferrari, they had enough ‘baddies’ represented by the Italian team. Similarly, I could have done without Shelby being such a wise guy during the race.

I am usually a fan of Messrs Bale and Damon and this film was no exception. I thought they played their characters exactly as I would have expected them to behave – as I say, I’m not looking for impersonations of Miles and Shelby, just believability.

The race scenes are good, believable enough and for a fan like me unnecessary on second viewing. This is essentially a ‘buddy movie’ (in a good way and well executed) and I found the final scenes quite emotional.

What can I say? 1st class production. Very grounded story in a number of facts and characteristics. Well presented and acted out.
Utterly loved the querky nature of some people where the research into the real characters is a testiment to a fabulous pre-production effort and setup.

Loved the photography and the classic cars, the era and overall story.
On a personal note: I’m glad for the European title being “Le Mans ’66” rather than the Ford V Ferrari title from US.

I’d previously read about Carrol Shelby’s and Ken Mile’s story and thought it was so good it would make a great movie.
Recently watched a documentary about the tale, so was reminded of the details.
The movie didn’t disappoint! If you’re a petrolhead, you’ll love it. If not, it’s still a good movie.

Christian Bale does a good likeness of Ken Miles. Not so sure about the Matt Damon/Carrol Shelby bit, but you don’t really care as the movie moves along at race car speed.

In all a good movie that should have done better at the cinemas.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIndeed. I grew to love motor sport at the time that this great rivalry was taking place, and I know the story well. This film often plays fast and loose with the facts. For example, the fact that the GT40 originated in the UK with the British Lola Mk.6 is not mentioned, neither is the fact that Ford ignored Lola Boss Eric Broadley’s advice that their design wouldn’t work, one of the reasons for the 1964 Le Mans debacle and the reason for calling in Carroll Shelby and his development driver Ken Miles to sort out the GT40. There are many other errors or omissions.

However, this is a film designed to entertain, and it most certainly does that. It is deliberately centered around the characters of Shelby and Miles, and these are well played and the racing scenes are excellently done. For those who know nothing about the sports car racing of the period, highly recommended, for those who do, quieten your disapproval, sit back and enjoy! My wife, not a motor racing fan at all, certainly did.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI saw this at the cinema and watched it on disc again this week. I absolutely love this film. I’m a great fan of Ken Miles, so to think a film would feature his story like this is so unimaginable it has easily won me over, despite the flaws and historical inaccuracies.
The political machinations of the true story run so far and so deep that it would be impossible to represent them all in one movie, that’s what all the books are for. What this movie does is to take you right into the feel and spirit of the times, and let’s you enjoy the characters, the cars, and the Ford – Ferrari rivalry in an honest and realistic way. Christian Bale is just amazing as Miles, a career defining high for me.
Ok, let’s spot the anachronisms and inaccuracies, while being clear they in no real way spoiled my enjoyment of the film, so good was everything else:
When the Ford team visit Maranello in 63, there is a 275 GTB outside, and several P3 / P4s on the factory floor. None of these cars existed at that time.
When Miles wins Daytona 66, he led from around the second hour and won comfortably, there was no last lap duel with Walt Hangsen as shown in the movie. Also, the GT40 had already won Daytona in 65 with Miles again driving, a milestone that is strangely not even referred to.
The dead heat finish in the film could have had the actual finish represented whereby McLaren shot ahead just at the line to take the win, making some of the fault for the theft of Miles’ victory his responsibility. However, Beebe later said McLaren and Amon deserved to win as they has stuck to the team plan and driven a steady race, an utterly bizarre viewpoint, and maybe he had told Bruce to do this…..Miles broke the Ferrari challenge with his pressing drive, pure and simple.
There are many (eg: Shelby Daytona Coupe fully prepared one year before it even existed), and while it’s fun to spot them, they do not detract at all from the movie. This is the story of an amazing time and an amazing rivalry, with the key characters fully fleshed out. Bravo!!!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirstly i’m a petrolhead and love historic race cars; every year I seek them out at Goodwood, Silverstone or Brands Hatch. I was looking forward to this film for the racing shots as well as the story.

I have to say the acting was good, expecialy Bale. Apparently the story is very US biased and downplayes the much larger part the UK engineers played in the development of this car, but hey ho nothing new there I watched for entertainment and a lot of it hit the mark.

What had me literally shouting at the TV were the racing shots. Cars look good, sound good, but the reality was sub zero. Some shots through the bends were sped up. Shots of drivers snarling as they got overtaken, slamming down the throttle to edge ahead, like they were only half throttle to start with, taking long glances across to the other driver as they raced next and neck (you don’t do thsi at 180mph!)….it was so bad I presumed afterwards it was supposed to be tongue in cheek and I was the fool for expecting something half serious. It was akin to herbie does daytona; really that bad. And a shame as if you watch some of the actual racing footage from the Goodwood revival festival, these cars are beasts, slide about are and very exciting to watch, flat out in the hands of great drivers.

So this was the dissapointment for me, as I said great acting by some let down by the ridiculous racing scenes. Maybe I need to watch it again with my expectations lower and laugh along with it.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersWife and I saw this in cinema when it was released. She is not interested in motor sport but thoroughly enjoyed the story of the relationship between the main players – loyalty, trust, teamwork striving for common goal etc.
There are many small details that I missed on first viewing – the gamesmanship in the pits where Shelby twice tried and succeeded to unsettle the Ferrari crew and the small nods of respect from Henry Ford 2 and Enzo Ferrari toward Ken Miles who developed and drove the car to such great effect only to be cheated out of the win by Ford corporate suits, but we all know who the real but unrecorded winner was. Also the total terror and elation of Henry Ford 2 when he passengered in the car driven by Shelby, HF2 said he had no idea – and he was right, he had no idea what he had paid to be created.
A brilliant multi-layered film which I shall watch again and again. It has prompted me to research the lives of Shelby and Miles further, just for my own interest – both motor sport heroes.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersDespite being a cynical 59-year-old who has travelled and seen quite a lot, I must admit to being blown away by this film. The evocation of an almost forgotten age of motor sport and life in general was superbly done. Christian Bale’s depiction of the exceptional Brummie mechanic and racing driver Ken Miles was sensational. He was matched by Matt Damon’s portrayal of Carroll Shelby, the astute American racing guru who only passed away a few years ago. It’s a very moving story about human endeavour which works on a number of levels, you don’t have to be a fan of motor sport to enjoy this movie. There are so many things to think about and contrast: the power of large corporations versus the inspiration and doggedness of independents being just one. It’s also a love story and this is fleshed out by Miles’ wife (played convincingly by Caitriona Balfe) and son (Noah Jupe). Christian Bale was as thin as a pin for this role to replicate the keep-fit fanatic Miles but this film was shot close to his movie about Dick Cheney: you would never think they were the same person. He must have been 120 lbs heavier in the Cheney role. A magnificent achievement to pull off both roles consecutively. The film is also great on the eternal contrast between Europe and America. Both continents generate amazing highs and lows and their competitions and collaborations are always worth watching. If you are a motor racing fan, this is the best film since Rush. I assume that director James Mangold used the latter as the bar and he has successfully raised it.

Entertaining and like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood a pean to 1960s America. There are several diversions from the true story – it took Ford three attempts to win Le Mans, not two, being one example. However, Christian Bale does a great job with the character of Ken Miles, and bringing one of the best racing drivers no-one heard of to a wider public attention. If you enjoyed Rush you will like this.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersAs a film, it was 4 stars. The AC Cobra story was lost, Carol Shelby was a tougher character than made out, and Ford executives came over as far too benign. Truth: The AC Cobra was the game changer at Le Mans. I had one and drove it hard. Memories!! I also missed an opportunity to meet the great man himself. What a regret!! Finally, I have lived in company cultures as depicted in this film and it is a lot nastier than portrayed. So, nostalgia gives a 4 star film that extra star. Oh and by the way, great action driving.

Ordered in November, arrived yesterday and I watched it non-stop yesterday evening. An excellent movie; OK, it might not be 100% accurate but as someone who was a teenager at the time of the Ford v Ferrari Le Mans feuds, I thought it was close enough. I’m sure that the behaviour of the management suits was spot on too – as were the pit crews. What a pity that Ford insisted on that PR 1-2-3 photo though.

Nice touch from ‘Il Commendatore’ after the win too.

The best music in the film was from those thunderous 427 V8 engines rather than the actual music.

    RIP Ken MIles.
