These Lego speed champions vehicles are great for both kids who may want to play with them or collectors who wish to display them. They do a decent enough job of capturing the source material – you can definitely tell what cars they are supposed to be. I would recommend these to build you collection or as a wonderful gift for either children or adults.
What can one really say. I loved Lego as a kid then as I grew up my interests shifted towards real cars and the opposite sex. Now I have a family of my own and my little tornados are in to Lego. So there I was down the toy isle at the supermarket as you do every bloomin visit with my category 4 and 7 at the time natural disasters, sorry I mean children who are now 6 and 9, when all of a sudden I felt a very sharp pain in my neck caused by a severe amount of whiplash, I couldn’t believe what had sparked such reaction, like a tractor beam pulling me in and with no chance of escape I was drawn towards the shelf. There it was the start of my next childish addiction, the box had an ora around it with a faint sound of heavenly angels calling to me “take me, you need me” it was a Lego replica of a WRC Audi Quattro complete with a race car driver in his smashing little Audi racing suit, his little yellow head grinning, he winked at me and told me to close my eyes, he said “remember when all you wanted to be was a race car driver now you can” my hand reached out and like a tramp on a bag of cold chips I clung on to that box all the way around the supermarket with a smile as big as a Cheshire Cat, I was happier then a pig in @#$? and even my lass rolling her eyes and shaking her head in disbelief whilst saying “you are by far the most childish one in this entire family you’ll be wanting alphabet shapes and chicken nuggets next for tea” was gonna break this wild spirit. From that moment it was one of my many dad missions in life to collect them. Lego Speed Champions are for big kids with big dreams who don’t care what the world thinks of them. Now if you don’t mind I must go I’ve got a drift car world championship to win in the hallway against my bitter rival the 6 year old he’s turned up in his Lamborghini Huracan but I’m feeling my 007 Aston Martin DB5 might just beat him around the hoover and cat scratch post.
My grandson and I recently finished building the LEGO 76918 Speed Champions set. It features two cars, the McLaren Solus GT and the McLaren F1 LM. One of the best things about this set is that it allowed us to build each car separately. My grandson took on the task of building the F1 LM, while I worked on the Solus GT. The level of detail in the cars is impressive, and it’s evident that a lot of thought went into making them look just like the real models. In total, the set consists of 518 pieces.
At first, we found it challenging to locate the specific pieces we needed, and it took us some time to get into a rhythm. However, once the cars started to take shape, it became a great activity for both of us. We spent two evenings completing our cars. One suggestion I have is that it would be helpful and reduce frustration if the clear packets containing the LEGO pieces were somehow coded to indicate which car they belong to.
Now, the finished cars are proudly displayed on a shelf in my grandson’s room. It’s a satisfying accomplishment, and we both enjoyed the building process.
I would recommend it as a gift for two people of all ages to enjoy an activity together.
It’s fair to say, when you purchase a Lego set, you tend to know you are getting value for money. The kids in the house (Big and little!) love building Lego sets and we have a large collection. As far as this set goes, it is once again another quality set. As per usual the pieces a arrive in numbered bags making construction easy and the the instructions are very clear. Once constructed the two cars, which are both models of McClaren design look pretty cool.
The 2 cars come in one pack separated into 2 bags for each. My 9 year old managed to build them both in around 3 hours with very little help so the instructions must be easy to follow. Some of the parts seem a little loose once assembled however this might be down to them not being put together 100% correctly so I’ll give the product the benefit of the doubt!
As you’d expect with any lego product they look the part once finished and are there are still hours worth of playtime to be had. 40 does seem a little pricey but when has Lego ever been cheap?! If you can afford it then any little one would enjoy this!
