Absolutely love it, I have had this mouse for over 2 years now and its amazing. for both work and gaming, albeit I’m no heavy gamer but it works very well. Battery life is very long, I haven’t tracked but I might have to charge it maybe once a month if not longer. Worth every penny.
I bought this mouse on 2021-12 and is the best mouse I’ve ever used to date. I specially appreciate how smooth it is and the scrolling that provides two modes. Last week, after charging the mouse, the laser stop to work. I contacted the support, and in less than 4 days I got a new one. I could not be happier, not only the product is awesome but the customer service and warranty is super efficient. I am definitively going to keep purchasing Logitech technology.
It is an overall great mouse but the micro usb port is a bit dated.
I bought this mouse during a Prime sale when it was significantly reduced from the usual list price – in fact, I’ve actually bought multiple during different sales for an assortment of uses!
All versions of the MX Master are excellent to use; great battery life, ergonomic design, with all the extra buttons and controls that you could wish for. The option of having three different connections makes it great for using with multiple devices – which is great when moving between work and personal devices.
I can’t find anything to complain about with it, and all the MX Master mice I have ever bought are still going strong. Ultimately, if you want a much better than average wireless mouse, this should be your main choice – but wait until it’s on sale (which it is multiple times a year!)
Bought this as a gift for a family members iMac. It works flawlessly and lasts forever on a single charge. Very comfortable in the hand for extended use and very accurate. Quite impressed for the price, might have to get myself one!
Overall Rating:
10/10 (After use of over 1 year)
Positives:
– Ergonomic design
– Bluetooth capabilities
– Lasts a long time before charge required (up to around 40hrs of use)
– Very minimalistic and clean
– Customisable ‘shortcut’ buttons that help make life easier (e.g Copy and Paste)
– Gesture button is a lifesaver for music lovers
Negatives:
– Prone to scratches, which can affect aesthetic appearance (although scratches are essentially impossible to see)
Would I buy again?
Most definitely.
I really liked the mouse and it was working pretty well. Need to admit this was one of the best mouse I have ever used. Recently the USB receiver has started failing repeatedly with the connection getting lost. I tried using different ports and reinstalling the software and various other workarounds with the same result. Now the mouse is unusable. Will be great if I can get a replacement of the USB receiver?
With lockdowns and working from home it too me ages to sort out my home setup. For years I had faithfully used various different iterations of the MX Master. I had just gotten used to making do with the trackpad and a dusty old OG Magic Mouse. It was fine.
Then I saw this at a price that was far too cheap to ignore. Within about 5 secs it became absolutely clear how much of an idiot I had been to not buy one far sooner.
The shap is so natural for lanky hands. The scroll wheel – oh the scroll wheel. Even better with the cool freewheeling clutch on this version. Very accurate, much easier to do fine detail stuff … just many, many magnitudes better than just making do.
If you use a mouse for any length of time every day do your self a favour and don’t skimp and make do. Invest in one of these.
My other mouse is a simple wireless Razer.
I am happy that this is rechargeable as the Razer needed new batteries almost every 10 days with heavy use.
It is very good quality BUT
For small hands like mine it is a like awkward. I am struggling to reach the front end. My thumb is resting very nice. And it is quite comfortable for my hand. Except that it feels that I have to stretch sometimes.
After 2 weeks and I still have not used the scrolling. Sometimes it does some crazy scrolling which I have to try to stop.
For my hand the buttons on the left are almost useless, I would prefer another button inside the button for my index finger, perhaps?
I am using it in wooden surface (my desk), and paper as a mousepad and the sensitivity is very good. I did not have to charge it yet.
I would like it to have space to hide the usb when I need to travel.
The software is not as intrusive as the Razer and I believe that I can use other Logitech devices through the same USB (I have not tried it yet).
Gnome Desktop on Debian GNU/Linux 11 and Ubuntu 20.04.
This was my first wireless mouse and I was worried about how often I’d need to charge it. So far it’s lasting at least two months with daily office usage – and I rarely remember to switch it off over night. It continues to work whilst charging, so even if it does go flat you’re just left using the equivalent of a wired mouse for a while.
I’m not really a fan of the free-wheeling scroll wheel, but it’s easy to enable clicks. However, even in that mode it is very difficult to reliably press it as the middle button without scrolling, which is rather bad when pasting at a shell prompt. It’s possible to configure both the button that normally controls whether the scroll wheel is free or clicky as a middle mouse button too, and that works much better, but it’s not as convenient to press. It’s also possible to configure the “app gesture” button under where the thumb rests as a middle button. I only discovered this recently so I can’t say whether these are really suitable workarounds.
The Solaar tool is great for monitoring the battery and configuring the mouse.
The mouse is accurate and very comfortable to use all day long for work.
The mouse fits my hand perfectly with the buttons in the right places for my fingers. The thumb rest is particularly beneficial and incorporates a button which can be used to activate gesture controls, this is a clever and useful function (although I often forget about it in practice!).
Switching the vertical scroll wheel between ratchet and freespin is an excellent feature which works superbly and I use regularly (often ratched for CAD work and freespin for reading large documents or websites).
Battery life lasts well, although it is frustrating that charging is via micro USB rather than USB C.
The ability to switch between 3 devices is useful, although turning the mouse over to do so is a little cumbersome, it is also frustrating that this cannot be synced with MX Keys (to change from one computer to another you need to press the buttons on both the mouse and keyboard, I had expected that Logitech would design this to sync both one one switch). I also find it frustrating that only 3 devices can be saved, whilst this is probably not an issue for most users, 3 seems like an arbitrary number and surely could be increased. I regularly use 2 laptops, 2 desktops, a mobile phone and a tablet, it would be great if the Logitech Options software could be designed to allow a key combination to be pressed (such as ctrl+shift+a number) to toggle both keyboard and mouse between any number of devices.
One good thing about this mouse is that it can be used with either bluetooth or the included 2.5Ghz USB receiver, I have the USB receiver plugged into a 4 port KVM switch and have bluetooth devices connected to the other two presets saved to the mouse, this enables me to use up to 6 devices without having to repair the bluetooth.
Never owned a mouse with all these bells and whistles, but I went and bought one after using the standard minimalist mouse for the surface laptop, which is very portable but also very gimmicky and not the smoothest experience. I cant comment on the durability of the mouse, although reviews dont seem to have any issues with this, but so far its been amaizing to use. Very customiseable and very functional – theyve thought of everything. I wanted to find a way to switch between desktops, as I usually use three finger touch on my mousepad for the laptop. I didnt even realise until today that there was an additional button in the thumb groove that was made for this very purpose, and that in holding it down and moving the mouse you could fly thrrough the desktops youve created. Changed the thumb scroll to zoom in and out and I don’t have to lift a finger to touch my laptop now that I’ve had a closer look into the features. Very easy to set-up, to customise, and overall a great experience. Never wrote a good review before, but felt the need to do so with this product. Unless you have very expensive taste or want specific features of the MX Master 3, or if the newer model is at a crazy discount, I can’t imagine what else I’d need. I haven’t tested out how easy it is to switch between multiple devices, but it seems very simple.
It’s been about two months since I first purchased this mouse, and It has exceeded my expectations as to what a computer mouse can do. Ever since I can remember I have only used the cheapest mice you can buy. I don’t know why I never tried to buy a premium computer mouse before, but for the price of 30, you cannot get any better than the MX Master.
Connectivity:
The MX Master can connect to a device either via Bluetooth or through the receiver included in the box. I have found the mouse connects seamlessly and almost instantly via the Bluetooth connection as soon as my PC turns on.
Functionality:
Via the “Logitech Options” application that can be downloaded as part of installing the mouse drivers, it’s possible to program any of the 6 buttons to perform any action out of the possible 60 options, a few examples can be seen in Photo 2.
Downsides:
As we move toward using USB-C for all devices, the MX master still uses the ancient USB-Micro input to charge the mouse, which in fairness doesn’t need to be used much as the battery life with regular usage lasts about a month, this can however vary with usage. If you are an avid gamer, the mouse could last you 2 weeks or less on a single charge.
Overall for the cheap price of 30, you are getting a really premium mouse experience. Highly reccomend.
Bought this, not because I needed a mouse, but purely because it was on offer and I fancied it. Really glad that I did. NOTE: be careful not to miss the USB adapter hidden in the flap where the box opens.
Pros:
– Incredibly comfortable.
– Seems very well made.
– Initial concerns about button placement were unfounded.
– App gives plenty of customisation.
– Versatility to link using both Bluetooth and 2.4ghz USB adapter.
– Good battery life
– No weird shapes/angles/lights like many other mice.
Cons:
– Keystroke assignment can be temperamental when used with remote desktop (e.g. sometimes my ctrl+v shortcut simply types the letter V. This seems to fix itself once I open the app).
– Micro USB charging (the only device on my desk that’s not charged using a USB-C cable).
– Not ideal for travel (it’s fairly big and heavy, which is nice on a desk/in your hand, but not in your travel kit).
I’ve used this mouse for 2 years now, I bought it originally in April 2019 during a sale when it was only 37 so I couldn’t say no. Having used it day in day out for work, productivity and gaming over this time, it has been honestly amazing, BUT there is a big problem with it which I will get to later. Firstly here are my overall good/bad thoughts about the mouse:
PROS
– The TRACKING I have always found has been amazing and I rarely ever found it to jump
– CONNECTION over lightspeed is amazing. I have mainly used this mouse with the USB lightspeed adapter but have used it with bluetooth on my macbook from time-to-time. This thing NEVER drops connection. I have seen other reviews where people have bad connection issues although I would put this down to faulty units. I can control my computer 10m away on the other side of the room with no problems and I have genuinely never noticed this to ever disconnect at any point. (my computer is around 1.5m away from where my mouse sits on my desk so take that as you will).
– BATTERY. This is genuinely insane, I think over these 2 years I’ve had to charge it less than 10 times and that’s during constant use for 8+ hours a day EVERY day. I honestly forget that it even has a battery a lot of the time until 3 months go by and you have to plug it in for a few hours again.
– COMFORT, the mouse feels great in the hand. Heaver than most mice due to the battery but I have big hands so don’t notice it much. Primary and secondary buttons feel tactile always.
– The GESTURE BUTTON for your thumb is honestly amazing. I use it for media controls and it allows me to easily turn volume up/down, mute pause play skip go back everything. I would use it all the time, UNTIL IT BROKE…TWICE.
– WIRELESS. just the fact that this doesn’t have a cable is a pro in itself. Frees up space on the desk, looks great, feels great, just gives you a bit of freedom which I really like.
CONS
– The GESTURE BUTTON for your thumb breaks. I had my first MX Master for a year and a half before the thumb button gave in. One day I pressed it in and it stayed pressed, not allowing me to move my mouse around. I tried to get around this by turning the button off in the software which did work but I loved using it so much that I knew I couldn’t use the mouse without it, so Amazon sent me a replacement. The second unit lasted just 5 measly months before the exact same thing happened. This time I let it slide and turned off the gesture button, considering I was now out of my 2 year warranty and couldn’t get a replacement. Then yesterday it just stopped working completely, mouse just wouldn’t move. I opened her up and decided to break the plastic component that activated the button, this did fix the mouse but meant this button was now truly useless. After troubleshooting online post surgery, I realised I could’ve just loosened the screws on the PCB that holds the button and it would’ve been fine but I’d already maimed it at this point.
– SCROLL WHEEL. this just feels a bit cheap. I never much liked the smartscroll feature and would rather decide myself when I wanted an infinite scroll so I turned this off in settings, but the wheel just feels a bit meh. Sometimes you’ll move it up or down and it won’t register, then you move again and it jumps twice. over time it worsens and I know plenty other users have had defective units because of this scroll wheel so I’d keep an eye on it.
– EXTRA BUTTONS. The thumb scroll on this is crap. Its so heavy, and I get it cos you don’t want to be accidentally moving it all the time, but its just a chore to use. not in the best position either but that might just be me. The forward/back buttons are ever more crap. Mush mush mush and the positioning behind the thumb scroll is awful. On other mice over the years I’ve used forward/back buttons religiously and I found with this mouse that within 3 months I rarely touched them. Shame.
– max 2000 DPI is a small one, I like my mice fast and I have to keep this at 2000 all the time. Ideally I’d like it a bit higher but its a minor one.
Overall this mouse has been genuinely great, and I’d say over the 2 units I’ve had I definitely got my 37 worth and wouldn’t have even been annoyed if I’d paid the full 67 for this. But there’s a lot of bits on this thing that I can see failing for other people dependent on your usage. Bear in mind this is the first generation of this product and logitech are now on the MX master 3 (which I have just purchased to replace my 2nd failed unit of this so fingers crossed my gripes with this are mended there). The 3 already feels better than this version and I’ve only used it for a few days.
If you can pick this up on a deal, don’t hesitate to buy it. Its more than worth it. If you’re considering picking this up at full price of 67, maybe save another 20/30 and get the newest up-to-date version, which I assume (and hope) has fixed the problems I have with this one.
I use my PC a lot. Hours every day, so I need a comfortable and practical mouse.
This fits the bill and then some. The programmable buttons, the second scroll wheel (which I now can’t live without) the adaptive scrolling, it’s overengineered in the best way.
The gestures are a silly addition with situational uses but what else do you expect from something like that?
I don’t know if it’s a gaming mouse, per se… it might be, that’s just not what I use it for. The point is, it’s practical, it’s comfortable, it’s not too expensive for something of this quality.
The battery could last a little longer when in sleep mode but I’m getting nitpicky at this point.
From the moment you feel it in your hand you just know you’re in for a good time. It’s heavy without being cumbersome, the thin rubber coating around the edge is really comfortable. It just FEELS high quality.
One of my favourite additions is the adaptive scrolling, it helps a lot when programming or searching through spreadsheets.
The tactile clunk you feel when it changes modes is definite and satisfying, the metal finish on the scrollwheel it’s self has enough texture to give you purchase without being uncomfortable.
The secondary scrollwheel on the left side of the mouse is a more traditional wheel, made of a soft plastic and metal accents, it’s a smooth scrolling experience, has plenty of resistance so you don’t scroll accidentally.
I highly recommend this, with one little caveat… you need to download a program to make the most of your mouse, so if you’re not comfortable with that kind of thing, I don’t know if it’s for you.
Firstly, it is not a small mouse. I don’t have particularly large hands and I find the ergonomics excellent but someone with smaller hands may find it a little large.
Personally, I find the button layout to be very well thought out. The side scroll wheel and the forward and back buttons are very well place and have a reassuring quality to them. The hidden DPI switch is a nice touch.
The main scroll wheel can changed from a traditional limited scroll to a free spin which allows for very high speed scrolling. A very minor compliant regarding this is that the scroll wheel feels quite loose when unlocked in free spin mode. It has a little sideways movement that isn’t quite in keeping with the feel of the rest of the buttons. This does disappear when locked in limited scroll and certainly not a deal breaker.
The DPI adjustment can be set to one of 2 fully customisable modes which can be changed with the push of a button. This certainly isn’t a gamers mouse though as the highest DPI setting is only 1000 which I find perfect for everyday use and photo and video editing but far too slow for gaming.
All of the buttons are fully customisable using the Logitech software which is easy to use and intuitive.
The mouse can be connected via Bluetooth or the supplied 2.4Ghz dongle. Personally I use Bluetooth as I often have several things connected to my laptop at once and didn’t want an extra thing to plug in. I find the response to be sharp and consistent and the connection is almost instant when the mouse is turned on, so no issues there.
Charging is via micro USB and battery life is excellent. I haven’t used it extensively yet but have only charged it once since purchasing it so no complaints there.
The mouse is expensive but the quality is in keeping with the cost. I purchased it as at the time it was the only fully customisable mouse with side scroll and Bluetooth connection and I haven’t been disappointed.
Would definitely recommend.
This review is for the:
Logitech MX Master Wireless Mouse, Laptop/PC/Mac compatible, Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz with USB Unifying Receiver, 40 days battery life, Any Surface Laser, 5-Buttons, Amazon Exclusive- Graphite Black.
After taking up gaming at the ripe old age of 56, needing something to fill the time during Lockdown III the Sequel. I decided I needed to update a lot of my equipment.
Already a great fan of Logitech and having used both their mice and keyboard in the past, I decided I would purchase their gaming versions. They say you “Get what you pay for”, I have always found their products to be well built. The MX Master Wireless Mouse is no exception. The design is perfect not only for gaming, but everyday PC uses. The design of the mouse makes it a perfect fit for your hand although I think “left-Handed” people will find this version unusable due to its design. It would be good if Logitech offered a left-handed version.
As for the Specs:
* Multi-Device Pairing: Pair up to 3 different PC or laptop devices and easily switch between them with the touch of a button; the MX Master wireless mouse is both Bluetooth and Unifying receiver compatible
* Precision and Speed: Navigate through long documents and web pages faster and easier with the adaptive scroll wheel of this ergonomic mouse, switching seamlessly from click-to-click to hyper-fast scrolling, on Windows as well as on Mac
* Logitech Darkfield Tracking: Outperforms optical sensors and allows you to use this computer mouse on virtually any surface, be it shiny white or even glass
* Distinctive Thumb Wheel: Experience side-to-side scrolling with a stroke of your thumb; to unlock the full range of thumb wheel possibilities of the PC mouse, remember to install Logitech options software
* Enhanced Power Management: This Logitech mouse offers up to 40 days of power on a single full charge, full day of usage in only 4 minutes charge time with no downtime while recharging your cordless Bluetooth mouse
* Upgrade to MX Master 3 for ultimate productivity: Scroll 1000 lines in a second, App specific profiles, USB-C rechargeable, improved thumb controls.
The mouse paired immediately utilising their unified USB dongle. I have found the mouse extremely comfortable to use especially during extended gaming, the thumb grip rest nicely supporting your hand. There is also a non-slip material where your thumb sits, which aids grips and reducing stress. The mouse is extremely accurate, and reaction times are also excellent.
The mouse is rechargeable and can be used whilst charging using the supplied cable. Logitech states you can get 40 days use out of a single charge. Although I have not tested this, I found the battery last for well over two weeks before even needing a charge. I prefer to charge at least once a fortnight, ensuring it is always ready when needed.
It should be noted that I purchased this to be both a gaming mouse as well as an everyday mouse. Those expert gamers out there will probably prefer a dedicated gaming mouse. However, if you want a good quality gaming/normal use mouse, this one ticks all the boxes. Although it must be pointed out this is a personal opinion, and I am extremely new the “wild world” of gaming. To be honest I normally call my son to ask for his advice.
Although on the expensive side, as previously mentioned to get what you pay for. In this case a quality mouse, well made from sturdy materials. Accurate and easy to use with additional programmable buttons
I hope you found this review useful (if so please take a second to click that box). I take the time to write reviews to help other potential customers, giving honest unbiased opinions. I pay for all the items I review.
I purchased this item on the 20th December 2020 when Amazon UK had it on sale for around 44 I believe. I had my eye on it for a while but with a 20 or so price drop I had to go for it.
I did not use the mouse over the Xmas break but had it fully charged and ready to use on Monday 4th of January which was my first day back at work after the new year. The mouse thankfully does not require batteries but instead is charged via a USB cable. The battery indicator has 3 small circles. If all 3 circles are green it means it is fully charged and of course the less green circles you have, the less battery the mouse has.
I use it for roughly 50 hours a week give or take due to work purposes, I have not used it for gaming so I can’t really comment on that. Since using it now for just over 5 weeks at around 50 hours of usage per week, I still have 2 bars of battery remaining. So when the title of the mouse mentions 40 days battery, I was very apprehensive to believe that at first but I never should have been.
The mouse allows you to connect to 3 different units. I use the USB receiver with my work laptop and then have it connected to my Apple iMac and Apple Macbook Pro via Bluetooth and it works absolutely amazingly.
I could not recommend this mouse more, it really is brilliant.
Hope this helps someone.
I love the Logitech MX Master mouse. It’s just such a comfortable mouse to use.
For many years I have used a Logitech wireless mouse, from the early noughties with an MX900. I had a VX Nano from 2007 for many years until it finally gave up on me. I swapped it for an MX Anywhere but that developed a fault just outside of warranty and having spent a lot of money on it I was put off from Logitech for a while. I went through a succession of Tecknet mice that were a direct copy of the VX Nano. They were great, and much cheaper than Logitech’s original, but they also rarely lasted longer than a year.
My wife uses a 10-year old Logitech MX Revolution mouse, which she adores but I have never felt quite comfortable with, but when I saw a Black Friday deal for the MX Master I looked a little closer at Logitech once again. And, I’m glad that I did.
Although I’ve always preferred smaller mice, the MX Master feels great. It’s a bigger mouse than I’m used to but it feel really comfortable to use for long periods of time. The bottons are in the right place for my fingers and thumbs, although the forward/back buttons by my thumb just need an extra moment’s thought to make sure you’re pressing the right one.
Battery life has been excellent so far and I have had no issues with connecting it to multiple sources. Which leads me to its real party trick. I work from home on my company laptop, and have my own personal laptop next to it. I also have an iPad Air Gen 3. This one Logitech mouse has the ability to control all three of those devices with nothing more than a press of a button underneath. As it connects by Bluetooth to both laptops and tablet their is no issue with having to swap dongles around. It works very nicely…although my only criticism is that you have to turn over the mouse to press the button. It takes the flashyness away some what not being able to glide effortlessly from one device to another. The button being placed on top would have remedied that.
Overall though, it’s been a fantastic mouse to use. It’s on offer enough to be able to pick up a good deal on it. There are also newer versions of it, but from what I can gather you’re just paying for very minor improvements that the vast majority wouldn’t notice.
What a great piece of kit! I have used many mice over the years, I’m a cad technician of 20+ years so you can imagine how many I have used!
The functionality is great for day to day and particularly for spreadsheet work as the scroll is amazing. The function button under your thin is useful, and the customisation of the butt’s per application (should you wish) is interesting and potential really useful.
If you use multiple devices you can switch the connection for up to 3 devices as the slide of a switch on the base, the battery is amazing and you can use it when it is plugged in charging.
Now gaming – I do a bit of gaming and binding this many buttons is great but be aware that if you were hoping to use the thumb button or the left/right scroll wheel I have not found a way of doing this as they seem to be bound to commands via the Logitech app. If you have managed to please comment as I would really love to be able to do this.
All in all, if you are a professional computer user or just like to use good quality kit, it is worth the money – I don’t think you will regret your purchases.
For the record, Mr PJL’s review is not for this version of the mouse the one in the picture he posted is of the previous version (i think) but it is definitely not this version.
I got this product on offer so I decided to go into a wireless mouse since lugging a wired mouse in my bag was not only annoying but would break it over time.
This mouse has so many positives that I would not hesitate to get a second one for a family member, firstly the shape and feel of the main buttons are superb, the side scroll and buttons are a nice feature for working and browsing, as well as the main scroll wheel being able to go in and out of free wheel. it even has a built in battery meaning you have to plug it in for a few minuets then your off for ages before another charge.
when you plug it in you can customise what each button does if you need to as well as other settings such as mouse pointer speed.
the one minor downside is that this mouse doesn’t have a slot where you can put in the receiver for transport (if you have a more modern computer you can connect this mouse without the receiver via Bluetooth. The receiver makes it so you can connect instantly) meaning you need to put it somewhere, however I do not have this problem as I also brought a carry case which contains the receiver.
this is a product which will last you a long time without question, so if you are thinking of getting this defiantly do.
If you’re looking for a great all-around, multi-device friendly, ergonomic mouse, you’ve found the right match. Of course, unless you’re a leftie, then it doesn’t make any sense for you to purchase it. Other than that. it’s a great value for money. Build quality is pure Logitech, and you can feel it, materials are comfortable and they feel premium. Clicks are sturdy and light and it’s a pure pleasure to use this accessory in your daily work. I have a particularly big palm so it was especially important for me to get a comfortable grip as the previous mouse quite often gave me wrist pain.
However, it’s not flawless. If you’re willing to use it in competitive gaming, forget it, Bluetooth latency is for a regular user unnoticeable but any gamer will find it certainly unacceptable ….
The only other minor disadvantage is the mouse scroll. It has two setups, one gives a good haptic feel with each movement of the scroll, the other supposed be smooth and give you a feeling of just swiping the page. Unfortunately, the latter is often too “smooth” and the pages are not scrolling correctly.
I bought this mouse during the Black Friday promo and for less than 40 quid there’s no better mouse. The regular price of 60 quid might probably make me think if there any other alternatives available at this price point.
I bought a Master 3 some months back and needed some additional work ones so opted for something less expensive. These are very similar in design and very small details are different. The size is about the same and all the functions seem hardly any different.
One issue I did notice is in the scroll wheel. The Master 3 is tight and a lovely improvement for the new model. On this, the orginal Master I found that moving the mouse around relitively fast caused the scroll wheel to wobble and you can feel this in the hand. It’s not so bad when you have the magnet switch on (rather than the free wheel setting) but it is slightly annoying. In truth the issue is very small and I will probably get used to it.
The battery life seems really good and the wireless seems rock solid. There is no problem using these on any surface. Just plug it in and the thing just works. You can customise all the buttons in the user friendly logitech software.
If you have a lot of work computers and just need a decent mouse this would be might choice. If you have one device or need a mouse to carry around with you to various computers I would probably spend the extra cash and go with the new and improved Master 3.
Performance MX is still going strong and since delivery of this mouse, I will use the old one for work as it’s still better than what they buy in even today.
This is a modern Logitech Mouse…………..if you buy other mouse products from different suppliers, each to their own, but these things are built to last and very well engineered. You can set the scroll on left to a few things, but I use mine for volume control and it’s very precise.
I have been using for gaming mainly since lockdown 2 and it works the same as the old mouse, but the ergonomics are defined a wee bit more. The old MX has green crud you have to clean off the old plastic chrome (Picture has a build up again -Top of image-) effect side panels but this new mouse doesn’t have that so I don’t even think there is even one negative thing I can comment on whatsoever. For under 40 you would have to be mad to buy anything other than this.
Oh, the battery….on the old one it has a replaceable rechargeable battery………..which over 8 years didn’t and still doesn’t need replacing. This ones bat is internal, and after 10+ hours of furious lockdown induced gaming use has only lost one bar of charge.
Seriously, these things are unbeatable 🙂
Got this over a year ago on a fantasic deal of the day offer and there hasn’t been a day that I regret I got this mouse. Heard so many praises on its comfort and ergonomics (it even looks it would be before even buying it), and decided to take the plunge with it being cheap at the time, and it really delivers on that. Fits the hand nicely, I don’t feel like I have to claw grip the mouse but rather just rest the whole hand on it and you’re ready to go.
The extra buttons to help with the everyday work/casual browsing, the horizontal scrolling wheel is nice to have in those moments that might need you to scroll that way. Back/Forth button is nice for browsing and the thumb rest button can allow you to see all of your open windows.
These of course can be remapped using the Logitech Options software to do a different function if you so wish, and can be done so in games too if you prefer a few extra macro keys on your mouse hand for quick usage. (I’ve personally done that on multiple games and it works quite well)
The free spin scroll wheel is definitely something I would miss on other mouses that don’t have that, it lets you glide through looooonng web pages in an ease and it is just a fun little thing to play with that you might not even notice you’re doing when you’re zoned out or something.
It clicks nice, tracks well on pretty much all surfaces I have encountered so the sensor is really good. Overall I definitely recommend this mouse if you’re in the market for a nice ergonomic mouse that has excellent build quality!
I love this mouse. I needed to replace my ageing Microsoft ergonomic mouse that I’d had for about 15 years. I was worried this wouldn’t be quite as comfortable, especially without the benefit of seeing/holding it before purchase. But, I was really pleasantly surprised by how great and comfortable it feels.
The fact that it’s rechargeable is a great benefit, but could be a downside – I imagine it won’t last me as long as the last one… but I love all the controls, and especially that it works with up to three machines, including both Mac and PC. I use this on both my work PC and my personal MacBook – one press of the button, and I’m switched over to the other machine. Awesome.
I have charged it once since I got it – it was already half charged when it arrived. I can’t remember exactly how long it took to fully charge, but it’s certainly never inconvenienced me work-wise. It claims it can run for an hour on just 3 minutes of charge. So if you’re desperate to get it charged up, you can get going again by the time you’ve made a cup of tea!
It has a handy battery light indicator which lights up when you use it for the first time in a while (not sure how long the ‘while’ is), so you can keep an eye on it. Easy USB charging – I reckon if you just charge it off your computer USB once a month or two, you’d never have to worry about battery power.
Has a really nice weight to it – not light, but not overly heavy either.
Ultra-fast scrolling is also pretty cool – and very useful to engage that manually for a Mac.
Like a lot of us, I’m now working from home more so than in the office.
So I began compiling a list of the things I needed for a ‘home office’ space, instead of being perched up at the dining table.
And whilst it’s lovely being right near the kettle, that’s about the only benefit to it.
So I’ve got my desk all set up, a nice big UltraWide monitor and the obligatory plant.
But something was off…
I was still tethered to my MacBook by a cheap basic mouse that probably cost 10 when new. It was time to upgrade and go wireless. After many hours of research, I settled for this bad boy!
The price was good considering the extensive feature set, which was made more apparent once it arrived.
Once you download Logitech’s software, you can literally map every button to do whatever you want too! It’s a revelation to someone like me who has only ever used the cheapest of cheap mice.
So not only does it look and feel great with the perfect ergonomics, it has about 7 buttons and two scroll wheels that you can programme to do what works best for you with your requirements.
And on top of all of that, the battery can last up to 40 DAYS off a full charge… madness.
Certainly the best mouse I’ve ever owned, that’s for sure!
The mouse took me a few days to get used to, but once you are familiarised and have the extra buttons available mapped to your liking it becomes like an extension of yourself – exactly what you want from an input device.
– I thought the hidden/extra button for the gesture control was a bit gimmicky, but have actually come to use it regularly.
– Using the button on the underside to switch between up to three computers (I switch between a PC and a laptop) is easy and fast – the transition speed is almost instant.
– Cursor accuracy is great and does indeed work on glass too.
– As, like many others, I’ve been working from home, so the mouse has had intensive use all working days (12 hours+ work and personal). It was fully charged on June 18th and only just now on July 21st is it asking for a recharge. I kept the mouse on at all times. There are also three battery life LEDs which handily illuminate for a short period when the mouse is moved out of standby mode.
– The scroll wheel freewheeling with a quick flick is a feature I never knew I needed until I used it. Great for large documents.
– Buttons re-programmable and mapped specific to which particular application you have open is also great.
In all, it was a bit of a lockdown indulgence/impulse buy, and I was getting by just fine without, but I’m very happy with it and the extra functionality.
The best mouse I ever had.. Even compared to Hunter the mouse that’s been living on my attic for the last 4 months. I guess he hasn’t heard about Corona restriction ease..
But back to the Logitech. Even though my
hands are not big and I cannot wrap my palm completely around the mouse, it still feels like a great fit. My hand rests well on the device.. repeating the last sentence in my head made me lol… OK, moving on..Logitech really nailed it with this mouse. The ergonomics is just right and the mouse feels very comfortable. The customizable action keys are very useful and you can set them to any action you like. I use this mouse mostly for work and browse and it feels like a breeze working with it. The gentle but present mouse click sound shows perfection and you can hear its a Logitech. There is no cheap plastic cracking sound, nor absence of sound, it’s an elegant click.
Scrolling is an absolute delight. The infinite scroll option is amazing when scrolling through an seamingly endless document or books and you just need to find that one chapter or quote… BTW developers created also a really nice option called key word lookup. Just press Ctrl+F on Windows or Cmd+on Mac to find a specific keyword or chapter in a long document or book so you don’t need to scroll your finger off… Thank you developers!!!
Again back to the mouse. The design is very innovative and sexy, feels like having an F117 under my hand.
Battery life: Even if I use it all day, every day, I easily get a 35 days out if it. Keep in mind I don’t mean a 9 to five day. I mean 9 am to at least midnight day so if I used the mouse half a day I’d probably get even more battery life. The charging takes only about few hours to get a full charge and back to the action it is.
The mouse looks stunning, works perfectly and clicks amazingly. It’s my best investment in 2020. It’s now 2022 and I have three of these. My first one still does all the work but compared to commercial junk like the Logitech G502 the MX Master 2s is superior in every possible way. 70 Hr vs 35+ DAYS battery not enough? Think again!!!
(Brought it on Amazon for 29.99 so I recommend adding it to CamelCamelCamel and waiting for an alert…)
It’s quite a large mouse so took a while to get used to. The forward and backward buttons are smaller than other mice so you have to bend your thumb back to reach them. It also has a horizontal scroll wheel which I personally never really need to use but I could see it being great for any sort of design work.
My favourite feature of this mouse is the “hidden” button where your thumb naturally rests. I didn’t know it was there at first but if you push your thumb down towards your desk the thumb rest clicks in and you can program it to do some interesting things. I personally use it for virtual desktops – I hold it down and then swipe left/right to move between the desktops I’ve created. At first it was a bit stiff and I was beginning to wish I hadn’t spent so much on the mouse but over a week or two of forced usage the button loosened up with a bit of use or my thumb muscles strengthened.
Another big selling point is that the mouse is bluetooth so doesn’t need to use a dongle however it comes with one anyway. There is also a button on the bottom of the mouse which allows it to remember and switch between up to three different devices which is great!
My main complaint about this mouse is that in an ideal world, the programmability could be a bit better – I would like to program the bottom at the top of the mouse (next to the vertical scroll wheel) to change between devices but it has to be the button on the button of the mouse which means I have to physically pick up the mouse to get to the button. My other complaint is that I would like to change how far I have to move the mouse left/right when I’m jumping between virtual desktops but it does appear to be fixed. I’d prefer the movements to be a bit more minimalistic.
This all being said, it’s a great mouse and if it broke, I’d have to get another if nothing else for the virtual desktops.
I’ve had this month for nearly two years and use it every day at work, so this is definitely a long term review of the product rather than some reviewers who review a product as soon as they’ve opened the box.
First up, it’s up to you whether you like the styling but personally I love the bronze secondary colour of the mouse which makes it stand out compared to most mouses which use silver or grey. It’s got a nice rubbery feel so feels nice in the hand and size-wise, it is a large mouse so it’s very much a palm grip. To be honest, you don’t even ‘grip’ it as such, more rest your hand on it. It’s got your usual left and right mouse buttons, a vertical scroll wheel between them then next to the thumb rest is a horizontal thumb wheel, two buttons (back/forward) and the thumb rest actually clicks down as a ‘gesture’ button. Behind the vertical mouse wheel button is a small button which switches between ratchet and smooth scrolling.
Connectivity is via the small USB ‘unifying’ receiver which is the same as many other Logitech mice, so if you have one already you can reuse that or use them on different computers if you plan to travel with the mouse. Alternatively you can use Bluetooth but it needs to be a specific version (I think 4?); my old laptop wouldn’t connect to it but my current laptop does. You can also use a micro USB cable which is also how you charge the mouse. One nice feature of the mouse, which you may not find useful, is that you can connect the mouse to 3 different machines and switch between them via a small button on the bottom of the mouse. Pairing is as simple as holding this button down until the led indicator flashes, then it is in pairing mode.
The mouse can be programmed using the Logitech Options software. The vertical mouse wheel can automatically switch between ratchet and smooth scroll mode if scrolling fast enough and the sensitivity of switch can be set in Options. Other buttons such as the back and forwards buttons, horizontal scroll and the gesture button (clicking it, or holding it down and moving the mouse in different directions) can all be customised to do different things, from basic tasks to keyboard commands. Not only this, but they can be set up to be global settings and then have specific settings for individual applications, so for example you could have the horizontal scroll button to scroll through tabs in Chrome. A lot of these things can be a bit niche but the ability to program the mouse so much is nice to have – I have a program where the horizontal scroll by default zoomed in and out, so I was able to turn it off for that specific program.
The mouse has a built-in battery and as I mentioned before, charges via a micro-usb cable. The battery lasts a long time, I work 9-5 five days a week and I would estimate it needs charging once a month, if not less frequently. You get an alert on the screen to say when the battery is ‘critical’ (5%). I can get another day out of it until it dies and needs recharging. Charging takes very little time (an hour perhaps) and you can continue to use it while it’s charging.
I wanted this mouse because I wanted an ergonomic, wireless mouse and I’ve loved the look of the previous Logitech mouse which this is the successor of but never bought one. This mouse really has been a positive change to my working environment – I am a software developer so the automatic smooth scroll feature can help to fly through thousands of lines of code quickly. The programmability is excellent so I can get it to do certain tasks which save small amounts of time. Overall, it doesn’t feel like it hinders my workflow, which a lot of cheaper mice can do. There’s no poor battery life for a wireless mouse, messing about repairing because it’s decided it doesn’t want to connect for some reason and it barely feels like you’re holding anything.
I’m upgrading from a SteelSeries WoW Cataclysm Mouse, which was a wired MMO mouse, since I don’t play games or even MMO’s anymore and it was starting to become faulty i thought i’d upgrade, and i figured i’d upgrade to a wireless mouse since the technology has come a long way in the past few years. (Included photo next to my old mouse)
And oh boy it has come a very long way, i remember my first wireless mouse was a dell one, and i remember playing games on it was so bad, you could see and feel the input lag, and that mouse honestly put me off wireless peripherals forever, but I heard a lot of good stuff about the technology logitech uses in their mouses so it bought back some hope for me, and this mouse has solidified that hope in concrete because it’s amazing and you honestly can’t even tell it’s wireless.
I got this one over the other wireless mice they have because it is more feature rich and looks more comfortable in the hand, it has a scroll wheel on the side, which to be honest would be useless for most people, but for me it helps because i draw in photoshop and it’s good for scrolling sideways across the canvas, the only downside to the scroll wheel on the side is that the back and forward side buttons are in a very awkward position and difficult to press ,and they are small and close together so you find yourself hitting either the wrong one or both, now this doesn’t bother me too much as I don’t use them often, but I imagine it’s something you can very easily get used too.
Like i said earlier, you can’t even tell it’s a wireless mouse, it’s so responsive and there is no lag at all, not that the human eye can see anyway, if you recorded it and put it in super slow mo then you could probably see, but if you want to play FPS games you totally can and would have no disadvantage against people playing with wired mouse.
Also, I should mention the scroll wheel has two modes, and i find it hard to explain but I will try my best, one mode is like a traditional mouse wheel scroll where you keep feeling tactile bumps as you’re scrolling, and the other removes the feedback and makes it so you can spin the wheel like you’re spinning a prize wheel, it goes insanely fast, i don’t see an application where this would be useful, but I did see someone say it would be good for scrolling long word documents but you can just slick on the side where you want to be so in my opinion that wouldn’t be a very good use case, but hey ho you might find that super useful, i just don’t
Overall this is just a great wireless mouse and I really recommend it, it’s got a great price, the build quality is amazing, the battery life is amazing, ive been using it for 5 days now (About 8 hours a day) and it’s still on full bars! And as i mentioned earlier the only downside I can see if the side buttons being small and awkward.
10/10 Highly Recommended.
If you found this review informative or helpful please mark it as such, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you – Brando
A great mouse. I have purchased 6-7 mice over the years trying to find the best one to use for daily work. I use Excel for 50% of the day and decided to invest a little more in to something of quality than just the regular 10 mouse you can get. I got this for just under 40 so was the time to jump in and spend more than I have ever on a mouse.
This has paid off… the battery lasts me (7 hour days use) about 3 months on one charge and charging is very simple as well.
The extra buttons are helpful as is the horizonal scroll. I love this and get a lot of use in spreadsheets goin side to side, but I do wish it was a little more refined as I find the sie scroll not as free scrolling as the top one.
Moving to the top scroll wheel. I love the fredom you get with a quick scroll moving up and down pages so quickly, in Free mode, but then you have a little more control when you have the second mode which feel like a rachet click as you scroll up and down. To me this was the little dissapointment. Theo whole mouse feels high quality, but the top scroll wheel. It feels a little lose and I seems like its not of the same level of quality as everything else. The buttons are all very good and clicks are positive and the buttons don’t rattle or move. they don’t feel lose and you get a positive click each time.
This is still a real good buy for the prices and the quality. Even though I’m dissapointed in the general feel of the top scroll wheel, it doesn’t detract from the fact it works excellently and the general feel is of high quality.
Would I purchase it again… maybe not for 80 as was the original price…. but for 40-50 yes I would.
Had a logitec years ago and was very happy with it. Since the battery died ive been using cheapo mice and laptop trackpads so I decided to get a decent mouse this time. Initially I got the corsair dark core with qi charging and while the rgb lights were nice it never sat comfortably in my hand plus it never worked with any of my wireless chargers. So decided to return and got this and I can say im glad I did.
Mouse isnt too heavy but has a decent amount of heft to it and its quite chunky compared to the corsair. I have fairly big hands so these things suit me. I felt there was a button missing compared to my old logitec mouse then i discovered the hidden button on the thumbrest….nice touch!!!! Also the thumbwheel is quite nifty as well. I have it set to control the volume but its customisable as are the rest of the button functions.
Gaming is something I do on my consoles so not really qualified to comment. No doubt the corsair was a far better mouse for gaming and had nice rgb lighting. It also had a lot more customisation options as you might expect….silly amounts of dpi control and sniper mode ( sniper mode I can imagine would be very useful in fps ). However I much prefer this mouse and the battery lasts a ton longer because it has no rgb lighting. Has all of the button and wheel customisation I need and sits a lot better in my hand.
Oh and for anyone using bluetooth for the connection, there is no dedicated connect button. You just hold down on one of the 3 profile buttons on the underside until the light starts flashing. Provided your pc is in discovery mode it will find it.
All in all would def recommend.
This mouse has changed the way I work in so many ways, Im more efficient with my time at my desk purely because the MX Master has so many features that work really well. Other companies have tried and failed to even come close to matching up with this mouse. Tracking with this thing is fantastic, It can pretty much track on anything, glass, fabric wood, you name it. The features and personalisation on the MX Master go on and on but with the dedicated logitech options app figuring out what works best for you is a breeze. As a developer I am using the scroll wheel all day everyday for many tasks and with the free scrolling on this mouse it shreds hours off my time, it also stops my finger from getting cramped constantly toggling the scroll wheel just to get the to bottom of a page. Another feature I use all the time is the dedicated thumb button, this can be remapped to hundreds of different options but I choose to use mine for Apple’s ‘Mission control’ and again it just increases my productivity. One final thing to mention (even though I could go on…) is battery life, the MX Master can just keep going! It’s the duracell bunny of the mouse world easily getting 2/3 months out of heavy daily usage, overall making this mouse the top of its class by far. Thank you Logitech keep up the great work!
(A newer version of the mouse has been released so I can only imaging it is just as good if not better than this version.)
At the Amazon special offer price I bought this mouse for it represents decent value for money, albeit there are perfectly usable mice at a third or less of the special price. However, it’s really, really comfortable! It’s hard to get a mouse with a proper thumb rest (for right-handers) which saves my thumb dragging on the mouse mat. Ideally I’d like more ‘pinky-finger’ support on the other side of the mouse but you can’t have everything!
So, a lovely shape in my medium size hands.
The buttons all have a nice ‘quality’ feel and sound.
The wheel has an ‘adaptive scroll’ feature – i.e. it spins freely if you move it quickly or otherwise clicks conventionally. I don’t generally move the wheel quickly enough to trigger the free spinning. There is a fair amount of material on the internet about the physical operation going on inside the mouse when free spinning in instigated (and how it can get stuck in this mode). I’d happily do without ‘adaptive scroll’ and have a simpler, conventional clicking wheel. But I cannot complain whilst it’s working perfectly on my mouse. And it does have a 2 year manufacturer’s guarantee, if push comes to shove.
I didn’t bother installing the Logitech software on my Windows 10 Pro machine as it is just bloat-ware. Windows 10 recognised the mouse and installed drivers automatically anyway. All buttons and wheels work just fine, including the sideways scrolling wheel and the thumb rest button.
I have run this mouse for 8 hours every weekday for around 5 weeks. It’s on all day and I switch it off overnight using the button on the bottom of the mouse. It came with 2 bars of charge and I have only needed to recharge it once during the 5 weeks. As I write this, it’s on 2 bars again. So no complaints on battery life.
So, overall, a great rodent and a keeper!
I was replacing my MX Performance mouse after 5 years of service, due to a clicking issue.
After a month of use, I have to say I really like this mouse. Has excellent features, can be connected to 3 different devices and switch between them (the switch is under the mouse). This will be useful for any IT pros, how need to control more computers. Finally, I can get rid of my other 2 mice.
Energy usage: after a month I haven’t charged the mouse yet.
Design: I always liked the Logitech’s design for their high-end mice. It fits your palm, comfortable, although preferred the MX Revolution. I do miss the side thumb button. The horizontal scroll can be very useful, although I rarely use it.
Software: the next software is much more user and configuration friendly than the previous one. More combinations can be accessed, I love the gesture mimicking feature (click and hold the gesture button and move it).
Scroll: I have to say I was frustrated for years because of the Setpoint’s scroll poor design. The smooth scrolling was complete rubbish, hence the reason I wanted to replace my old mouse. The MX Master scroll is excellent. They brought back the scroll from the MX Revolution – can auto switch from click-to-click to freeroll, and you can assign a dedicated button as well. Finally, they ditched the scroll click left/right, I never liked this feature, as hard to control precisely.
I purchased this on 26th Nov 2018 on cyber Monday for 36.99 it is discounted a few times during the year for a similar price, might worth to wait.
Overall score: 9/10 due to the 2 side buttons position is not comfortable for me, and ditching the third button.
This mouse is truly a pleasure to use – as long as you’re right-handed!
The free-wheel scroll wheel is a revelation for someone who’s work involves scrolling through long pages of computer code all day, just give it a strong flick and it instantly unlocks from the usual “notches” to free-wheeling, speeding up / down whole pages in no time.
Also I wasn’t expecting the gesture button to be as useful as it is! Default settings are press it down to show all applications open to allow quick switching between applications (same as pressing “Windows Key & Tab” in Windows), but hold it down and drag mouse down to minimise everything and show desktop (there are also pre-configured gestures for left, right and up). All the defaults are useful, but using the downloaded software you can configure all the buttons and gestures to do nearly anything! What a revelation!
The thumb wheel feels quality, there is a little resistance to it since it feels quite nicely heavy, but I think this gives greater control. Unfortunately I don’t have to scroll sideways too often, but if you do you should find it very satisfying to use!
All in all it’s a very comfy mouse for people like me with slightly larger hands, although I don’t know how well smaller-handed people would get on with it! It is the largest mouse I’v ever owned. I do love the thumb rest (including the gesture button) and the way the whole mouse (the usual 2 mouse buttons at least) slants down to the right like most good ergonomic mice. My only gripe is that there is nowhere to rest your ring and little fingers if you use your first and middle fingers to operate the usual 2 mouse buttons! They just have to kind of dangle down by the side, ever so slightly uncomfortably. If you use your middle finger to operate the scroll wheel and your right-hand ring finger to operate the right mouse button it is more comfortable, but I would have liked a dint or something to rest my ring and little fingers.
Considering the quality and all of the other benefits of this mouse the complaint is a relatively minor one, but one that stops me giving it the full 5 stars.
All in all it’s a pleasure to use and if you’ve only ever used cheapish mice before you will almost certainly not regret upgrading to this beast!
This is my second version of this mouse – I had previously owned and used what I think was the original MX Master (it came with a docking station) and this version is a nice upgrade from that.
Ergonomics
Ergonomically, these mice are excellent – The shape is slightly more refined on this version that my previous one and felt odd to start with but it fits my hand very well (obviously only suitable for a right hander unfortunately). May not be totally suitable if you have smaller hands – perhaps something like the Logitech M720 Triathlon Wireless Mouse might be a better fit.
There is an alternative mouse available for those that are really looking for ergonomics – Logitech MX Ergo Advanced Wireless Trackball/Mouse for PC, Mac and Windows
Buttons
The selection of available buttons is quite amazing and can be customised nicely through the software to carry out common tasks, navigate in your browser or launch apps etc. A nice feature for power users, but in general I only use a couple of the buttons and have most turned off (there’s that many!)
Software
The provided Logitech Options software is so much better than the original MX Master software with my previous mouse. I’m using a Mac and I’ve had no compatibility issues – I’m sure it’s the same on Windows. The level of customisation is great as can be seen in the attached image.
Charging / Battery
One of the problems with the original MX Master was that it came with a dock for charging, so when it was charging you couldn’t use the mouse… Logitech have solved this is subsequent versions with a simple USB connection at the front of the mouse, so when charging it basically turns into a wired mouse and you can continue to use it – nice and simple.
The battery life is excellent – in the 6 months I’ve owned this mouse I’ve only had to charge it twice and it gets significant use 9 to 5:30 Monday to Friday. There’s a nice 3 light indicator to show you the battery level whenever you turn the mouse on (I leave mine on all the time and the battery does not run down)
Overall an excellent mouse and highly recommended.
+ Perfect for productivity-based tasks e.g Adobe. Premiere; I often find myself using the horizontal scroll wheel to go through a video’s timeline
+ Ergonomic shape, can use for long hours without fatigue
+ Very little input lag despite being wireless; Logitech are known for great wireless technology
+ Darkfield sensor, can pretty much use it on any material and it’d still track including glass
+ Nice thumb rest
+ Logitech software isn’t bloated; gets the job done and doesn’t run in the background, mouse has on-board memory so any changes will save in the mouse itself so the software doesn’t require to be permanently on
+ Can adjust mouse and scroll wheel (for both vertical and horizontal) sensitivity
+ Has various gestures which you can set up with Logitech software; I have mine set up on the small button under the scroll wheel which is based around media controls e.g. play/pause music
+ Infinite scrolling; extremely helpful if you’re going through pages or long texts where using find might be a bit impractical
+ Comes with a micro USB charging table; no need for batteries as you can recharge it and still use it
+ Comes with a USB dongle if your device doesn’t have Bluetooth
– Perhaps a bit too big for 18cm sized hands, but this is obviously subjective
– Forwards and backwards buttons takes some time to get used to as they’re on top of each other rather than left and right like how it’s typically set up on other mice
– My mouse feet were already extremely scratched after 30 minutes of usage?
– Definitely not for gaming, sensor occasionally ‘skips’ when you’re moving it slowly which essentially prevents precise aim
*As far as I’m aware, there’s no difference between MX Master AMZ (short for Amazon) and a MX Master bought directly from Logitech aside from the packaging. The AMZ variant has a lot more compact packaging i.e. you only get what’s needed, which I think explains the cheaper price.
Firstly I bought this to replace my iMac Magic Mouse.
The Logitech MX Master Mouse is an evolutionary upgrade to Logitech’s laser mice that are larger and more comfortable than a standard puck-shaped mouse. The Logitech G500s has been my day-to-day mouse for the past couple of years. The mouse is great for everything from browsing to gaming with its adjustable DPI and multiple buttons for easy navigation.
The MX Master Mouse continues on that same history of success for right-handed mousers. It offers dual wireless connectivity options with Bluetooth and Logitech’s Unifying connection which allows the mouse to connect to 3 different devices. One of my biggest concerns with wireless mice always comes down to the batteries. I like that the MX Master Wireless has a rechargeable battery, which is fast charging and is supposed to last 40 days on a single charge. I have not had the mouse for that long, so I will have to see what mileage I get out of it. The mouse continues to operate just fine if you have to charge it from the included micro USB cable. It connects to the front of the mouse and then operates like a normal corded mouse.
Aspects of the mouse that I do not like:
The back/forward buttons are difficult to use due to their layout
The curved part of the mouse goes too high and for too long, so that it digs into the web between your thumb and forefinger to hold the mouse comfortably
The back and forward buttons are the standard buttons that Logitech adds to their mice. They’re usually easily reachable from the thumb with the back button being bigger and easiest to reach. With the MX Master, the buttons are overlapping in opposite teardrop shapes. Forward is still further away and back is closer to your palm but the layout requires some concentration to ensure you’re hitting the right button rather than the more intuitive previous layouts.
Where the mouse usually slopes down in the web between your thumb and palm, I find this mouse to be still rising and a little uncomfortable.
Aspects of the mouse that I’m not sure on yet:
the horizontal scroll wheel is really precise and smooth but I’m yet to find a frequent use case
the gesture button is neat but requires coordination
I have not come across any real need for the horizontal scroll wheel. It’s unique and provides options but most applications adapt to the vertical scroll wheel, such as the Start Screen.
The gesture button is a bit hidden, but the thumb rest is actually a button. You can press down with your thumb and then move up, down, left, or right to kick off a different action. These actions are configured in the Logitech Options software. For example, you can perform windows management such as minimizing a window by holding down the gesture button while dragging backwards.
Aspects of the mouse that I really like:
the wireless freedom
the scroll wheel changing from clicking to smooth rolling at the press of the button
the Darkfield laser that has this mouse operating very precisely on a variety of surfaces
the Logitech Options software is really easy to use
I prefer the scroll wheel with a click to it. It feels more sure in the navigation and I found the smooth wheel to move up a little each time I scroll down. Personal preference but it’s a simple button press away to change.
The Logitech Options software is available to download from support.logitech.com It allows you to configure the buttons to do what you would like them to do. For example, you could use the horizontal scroll to control your volume and the gesture button to control media.
All in all a good mouse for the price….and hopefully less hand fatigue.
GENERAL
A very ergonomic mouse – fit’s perfectly in my average sized hand. The buttons (left/right) are very responsive with a good feel.
BUTTONS
There are 2/3 extra buttons. Behind the side-scroll wheel is a ‘2 button’ element for back and forward thru pages. More discreet and easy to miss is the button under the thumb-rest. This can be programmed to do any number of things. I keep my software environment simple so have not installed the logitech software. So I can’t speak for the use of these buttons, but I can say they are easily reached and responsive.
SCROLL WHEEL
Some hate it but I love the ‘flywheel’ scroll – it’s one of the main reasons I stuck with Logitech (from owning an m500). Previously you had ‘free wheel’ which spins for ages and scrolls through many pages of documents/web etc. Or ‘normal’ scroll, with a notched ‘click’ response as you roll the wheel. With this MX Master, the ‘normal’ notched scroll remains, but if you flick the wheel in this mode it ‘unlocks’ and spins. Tap the wheel again and it ‘locks’ again so scrolling stops. Very clever and useful. Press the button behind the scroll wheel and it goes into ‘always free’ fast and frictionless spin – which is where I have it 90% of the time.
SIDE SCROLL
I use it for web dev and graphic design, so side-scroll was also important. Sadly the mouse falls a bit short here. The thumb wheel doesn’t project far and I find my thumb simply slips over it – it doesn’t turn at all. I need to ‘pinch’, so end up clicking the left button when I don’t want to. Or I have to move my thumb back and ‘point inwards’ to gain any purchase on the wheel – very awkward, making it easier just to go back to keyboard/mouse combinations. If the side scroll had a ‘loose flywheel’ setting this mouse would be perfect.
SURFACES
For sensitivity it’s very good – works on any surface as it promises. Being wireless the DPI will never be amazing, but it’s accurate enough for me and adjustable without additional software.
CHARGE
I love that it can charge while in use, so no down-time. Not had it long, but I’m 3 days in on one charge.
CONNECTING
You get a receiver for wireless. Unfortunately nowhere to store it. My other Logitech has a slot to keep it safe. Now I have a tiny component and nowhere to put it.
I’m using bluetooth to a MAC. It connected first time and has had no issues, no drop-outs. One small point is that the manual says to press the ‘connect’ button – but there isn’t one. Just turn it on and it connects on its own.
You can connect to 3 devices, with a button to cycle through the devices on the base of the mouse.
SUMMARY
This is a very comfortable mouse I’m very happy with. A little work on the side-scroll and it would get 5 stars. It’s not a gaming mouse, not enough buttons, but is very much a designers or ‘all day on the PC’ person’s mouse.
Purchased as a spare and probable eventual replacement for the MX Master 2S currently used. Physically it and the “Logitech MX Master AMZ Wireless Bluetooth Mouse for Windows and Mac – Black” are all but identical. However, the 2S has a 4000 DPI capability but Logitech do not provide a specific value for this model. One, not specifically packaged for Amazon, was owned previously but quickly passed to a family member, not for any negative reasons other than she had dropped and broken hers.
The package includes the standard ‘extras’ of a micro-USB charge lead and a Unifying receiver. If you currently use a Unifying mouse, keyboard etc, the second receiver will probably become a spare as you may be able to use the existing one. Purchased as a ‘Deal’ for little more than half its normal RRP!
Logitech have three software downloads that may prove useful; the first is the driver package, SetPoint widely compatible with several OS but which is now largely replaced by LogiOptions . The second is the Unifying package which will help pair this mouse with the original receiver in some situations and the third is is its LogiOptions package which facilitates the advanced functions supported by today’s more feature-rich products.
While having a family history of negative performance and build quality issues with several higher-end Logitech keyboards (notably the K800 series, but not exclusively) there have been no similar issues with any Logitech mouse. One superceded Performance Mouse failed after about 5 years but that followed very extensive use of several hours per day repeatedly, 24/7! For many users, that could equate to a couple of decades or more.
There are no qualms or concerns if a mouse is handled with care. The sole restriction is that the battery is now sealed-in and non-replaceable. Although its battery’s lifespan is limited to a finite number of charge cycles, one charge could last for at least 5-6 weeks for most users – usually about 3 weeks for personal extensive usage – and thus translate to several years overall life expectancy. It was placed into use far more quickly than was anticipated as the 2S which had seen relatively little use began to behave erratically just hours after the order was placed.
Wow, it’s been 4 years since I reviewed this mouse and its STILL GOING!!!
It really hasn’t skipped a beat since I’ve had it. Buttons, scrollwheel, laser tracking, it’s all still solid and working juuuuuuuust fine.
The ONLY thing that’s changed is the battery life. It’s gone from needing a monthly/bi-monthly charge with desktop notifications, to no notifications and about a 2-week lifetime. It still charges in under an hour and you can still use it whilst its charging (LOL @ Apple magic mouse).
I work from home as a developer for 12-14 hours a day, so it gets some heavy use. I’ll consider buying another one once the run time reaches less than a week.
After 4 years of extensive daily use, it’s still a 5/5 in my book!
## Original Review 2017 ##
As cliche as it sounds, this is one of the best computer mice I have ever had the pleasure of using.
The ergonomics are astounding and suitable for anyone with a Medium to Large glove size. The body profile is quite steep, so anyone with particularly small hands might start to get fatigue in their wrist and forearm quite quickly. The buttons are beautifully recessed with the body and have smooth actions.
To conserve power you can manually turn the mouse off, as well as switch between one of three connected Bluetooth devices. It comes with a standard Logitech wireless dongle, but operates just fine with the built in Bluetooth that most modern computers come equipped with, which is great if USB ports are at a premium to you!
When you connect to a computer you also get the option to install some Logitech management software to fine tune the mouse. Essentially it gives you total control over the DPI, smooth scrolling and even whether you want the middle scroll-wheel to feel like a ratchet (feel the clicks as you scroll) or feel like a flywheel (smooth-as-silk scrolling that carries on effortlessly).
Overall, if you want a sturdy, comfortable mouse that isn’t made of ridiculously cheap materials, THIS is the one for you!
