I used to play this as a kid- this one doesn’t seem the same as I remember. Played with my teenage kids – they didn’t love it but appeased me and played with me a few rounds
    Came quick,
    All the parts included
    Nothing damaged

….so it is difficult to rate this particular version of the game, since I received no feedback from the party to whom it was sent. If this newer release of Balderdash is in any way akin to the classic game which I favor, then I would theoretically give i

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis game is too fun, and you’ll find your family playing it for hours on end. The object of this game is to write a fake yet compelling definition or answer to the clue assigned to the “caller” each turn. It’s a bluffing game, so your primary goal is to get as many people to guess the fake answer or definition you submitted to the caller. The updated version means it has all new data from previous versions.

This game is suitable for teens and adults with a vivid imagination and sense of humor. Definitely play Balderdash at dinner parties where there are more than five people. If more than five, you can double up and play with teams of two people. The price is a steal considering all the enjoyment you’re going to receive from playing. Happy bluffing!

Got this because I remembered enjoying this game decades ago and it doesn’t disappoint. Lots of laughs while attempting to keep a straight face while the definitions are being read aloud. They’ve added a few new categories since the old purple and black box which are not bad – “Weird words” is still the best though.

Are you creative? Do you love learning obscure but interesting things? Do you enjoy bluffing your way through a game? If yes, Balderdash is for you! Though not easy for younger players, it’s great for a board game night with friends.

We LOVED this revamped old classic! The box is now looking super smart! Looks nice on a shelf. Also, the game itself is just so much fun and we have had a blast playing it as a family on game nights during lockdown! Cannot beat a classic!

The premise of this game is very simple. One person reads out an unusual word and everyone else has to write down a definition for it. The reader then reads all the definitions including the real one and players try to guess the real one.

Unless players have some familiarity with the language structure of the answers to recreate it in their own the real answer can be a bit easy to spot and if players have different skill levels for creative thinking then this can be very one sided and not as much fun.

The other issue is one that all games like this have and that is that after a while replaying players will remember the cards and answers so its lifespan is finite playing by the rules however one option around this or to just spice the game up is to do away with the real answers and play it like cards against humanity where a favourite answer is picked and that person gets the point.

The game itself though is well made and has some fun times in it if you have a good group to play with

    Super funny game!
So easy to understand the rules and still, so funny to play with family or friends.
So many different cards and words, will last forever!
And the funny bit is that every time you play, looks the first time, so many combinations.
For the price is a no brain and a different way of play a smart game.
    Recommended for the price.

A fun after-dinner game that’s been around a long time now. I remember playing this 10 years ago with friends. It’s very simple to pick up, no long-winded rules to learn and the fun is in making up funny and crazy answers/definitions that have just enough possibility of being true that you fool the other players into believing it!!
    Loads of fun!

This is a stylishly packaged game. The board is rather small and only a few players can play, so if you want a big, inclusive family game, this really isn’t for you. Having said all that, it’s really fun to play and we all enjoyed it.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis game is hilarious, if you like Would I Lie To You on tv, then this game is right up your street! The basic rules are a player reads out a question to the others. They each write down a made up, but believable answer and hand it to the person who read the question. This person then reads out the proper answer and all the made up answers, in random order. The other players must guess which is actually correct. You score moves on the board for each player who is jinxed into believing that your made up answer is the right one, as well as for choosing the real and often unbelievable answer.
The game only really works with adults and maybe teenagers, small children are less likely to get the irony and don’t make very good liars. Especially to their parents!
I fully recommend this game, as it will be dragged out on Boxing Day for sure and it just gets funnier and funnier with the words that come out.

This is very easy to play and understand. My 11 year old picked it up in no time (although he isn’t the best of liars yet, hopefully that day will not come too soon!). The game is suitable for ages 8 upwards and 2-6 players can play. It is perfect for a family game night. It reminded me of the old Call My Bluff game on TV, or the more recent Would I Lie To You? Some of the supplied answers are a little too obvious so I would recommend changing them round (provided you can remember your made up answers)
We had loads of fun, and will definitely be playing this over the festive period.

The board game is well made with strong materials, should last many years. The rules are easy to grasp. Pick a term that’s like to be strange to everyone, then everyone makes up an answer. All the made-up answers and the real answer get mixed up and the players need to say which one is the correct one. Whoever guesses the correct answer will have a point, whoever crafts the wrong answer but have bluffed the most other players will also get a point.

The game is not really suited for a family with mixed abilities unless everyone plays silly instead plays to win points. In which case the fun could be short lived.

It could work for a group of adults with similar level of abilities. But still, the true answer is usually very easy to spot, which takes the fun element away quite quickly.

Overall, an okay game for a change of scene now and then, but not something we are dying to play again and again.

This is a fun game, which reminds me a little of a game I play with my teens, called “Fibbage”. You are given a question from a range of categories, along with truthful answers. The idea is to give a false answer of your own, or definition, which other players will believe instead of the real answer. It can be quite funny, especially if you have a lot of players, or play in teams.

This is a great game for all the family, although it does help practice bluffing, not sure if that’s a good thing or not lol But seriously, we had a great night with this and a lot of giggles. It is well presented and laid out and comes with everything you need to play. You have 6 figures and it says 2+ people to play but i would recommend 3+ personally, otherwise it seems like tennis with a board game. I love the variety of facts but i must admit i would like the more bizarre answers to be true, although, when you do get a bizarre answer it fools the other players.

Overall, great fun and i highly recommend for a fun night with family or friends.

This is a fun game best with adults as youngsters are not so good at bluffing their definitions. You have to be able to kind of back up your definition with a straight face. It’s a game of bluff a bit like ‘Would I lie to you?’ panel game. We found it was best in a group of four or more and when we had had a couple of drinks as we got better and better at our bluffing!!

It is also quite an education as they have found the most amazing words that none of us had ever come across and some of the definitions they had made up were hilarious and it was hard to keep a straight face reading some out!!.

4.0 out of 5 stars A game of bluffing and good fu

Most of the time I can’t talk my family or friends into playing a game that takes 40 minutes to teach and requires two hours of strategy playing and complicated rules. Balderdash is a fun, easy to pick up game that all ages can understand and enjoy while laughing at some purely absurd answers. It’s become one of the main games in our rotation.

Learn the basics in 5 minutes and average game play is about an hour (maybe an hour and a half with 5 or more people). I will say repeatability with this game gets a bit less fun as you learn the tone of the true answer cards (the ones you’re trying to detect while supplying your own fake answers to fool your competitors) and can pick them out amongst your friends cards. But overall this game is silly and with some witty friends it is pure comedy, just playing the game can be more fun than winning.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our Usersi played the original in the big red box a long time ago and i realized that i missed playing it so i tracked this down and bought it. i was worried this was not the same game because it looks so different, but it is plus more. the original just had obscure words for you to use but this new version also has several other categories to choose from, in theory youre supposed to roll a die to select but im just going to play with the words. There is also a game board now and pieces to track player points.

if i had to complain i would have to mention the answer cards. each player, every round has to write their answer on a paper. there are nowhere near enough papers in the pad to last more than a few games, and there doesnt seem to be a way to get more of the pads. they are fancier than the old pads which were on thin paper and seemed to have hundreds of pages. its annoying as well because so much of this box is empty space, it has 2 boxes with the question cards, die & game pieces and a board and a thin pad. they should load this thing up with pads, and make them a lower quality.

Excellent game. Balderdash means senseless talk or writing; nonsense.
That’s what the game is about, how well can one bluff. Go ahead and try it. Not ideal for children under 10.

Great game. Play with as many players as you have pens and note pads for. The game is pretty simple. The current player chooses a card that has a word on it with a definition. Then the player reads the word to all the other players. Each other player writes their own definition for the word and the current player writes the correct one on a piece of paper. Then when all entries are handed to the current player they read them all aloud. Each other player tries to choose the correct one. After every one has secretly chosen their favorite the current player reveals the correct answer. If you guessed it correctly you get points, if someone guessed your definition you get points, if you actually wrote the correct definition you get more points. Play until each player has read a card themselves and tally the points. Easy. Everyone has a great time making odd or weird definitions. Laughter ensues. A couple notes. Make sure all of the pads are the same or you would be able to tell who submitted which answer, also read the answers in your head first as handwriting can be difficult and will tip off other players its not the right choice. Be creative, have fun, learn stuff….play.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersThis has been my favorite game to play for the last 25 years! The newer version with different items (instead of just definitions) is by far the best version, if only the manufacturer didn’t “cheap out” by making some of the components so cheap. Comparing this to my older version, you can tell that the cards are a little thinner card stock, and the boxes to hold the cards aren’ even close to the thick chipboard used in previous versions. The board is also redesigned (it is smaller); however it only is 15 squares instead of the 22, so your game will play faster. We play this game a couple times a year in our group and laugh ourselves silly. No wonder Tom Vassal and his buddies all have this listed in their top 3 BEST games that make us laugh (if you don’t know who that is search the “dice tower” on youtube.) I’ve enjoyed playing this game ALMOST every time I’ve played it. Fair warning though: non-creative people suck the joy out of this game. Younger players also do not make this game as fun as it could be. Sure, I know I am coming across like a jerk complaining about slower players or “dud” answers, but a slow player that consistently puts out lame answers that nobody in their right mind would pick really extinguishes some of the fun. Plus many times these “dud” answers take twice as long to write because the player “just couldn’t think of anything”. I’ve played the game before with a few people that did this every time and it really ruined the game. My pal even asked me that night why I liked the game so much afterwards because he thought it was a real “downer” of a game. Trust me – it’s not. It’s one of the best games I own for laughs. I would recommend that you double the points awarded when playing to move the game along at a faster speed. In my experience 1 hour of this game is great, but it begins to wear down after 60-70 minutes. (Of course this was with the old board that had 23+ spots – the newer version has 15 so the game should move fast enough). This game is worth the 15 bucks you’ll spend. My entire family has been playing it for 25 years or so with me whenever I go visit them. My brother insists we play whenever we get together. We still laugh about stuff we wrote over 20 years ago in my grandma’s house during Thanksgiving. If you have a good combination of people that are quick enough to write fake definitions, made up movie plots, or somewhat believable initials (Ex: PPA is the Public Peanut Association, the Perfect Peach Association, or the Planetary Probe Analysts — which one?) Guaranteed you’ll laugh no matter who wins.
