Very quick delivery, was worried at first about size of light but once put in place it hides in well, very easy to set up,was always used to having adjust tiny dials to set time and sensor. At last somebody has made it so easy with push buttons for setting up 10/10.Have ordered more, not only for myself but family aswell.
Would recommend this light to anybody.
Replaced an old faulty one (different brand) so very easy swap out. Really liked the little push buttons to set timer, night mode etc. Much simpler than the little twiddly dials on others I’ve had in the pas
I now have 4 of these fitted around my home with no issues, and they do an excellent job. Like any light with a motion sensor, you need to play around with the motion detector to trigger the lights at whatever distance you want them to detect motion, but that is very easy to do. A good choice of time settings and very good value for money.
Awesome bright light perfect sensitivity. Easy to set up. My only negative was that it didn’t tell you what amp refused to use. It’s a 3 amp . Cannot vote the light it’s awesome. STRONGLY recommend
Has a nice bright light for one side of our wide narrower garden. Only reason not 5 star is it could be better at picking up. Just not quite there. Otherwise ok if it lasts, because these energy bulbs don’t seem to last too long. We have bought loads of indoor bulbs and outer and they do not last these thousands of hours promised.
Works well once set up. I’ve got mine on my workshop and have it set up to only come on at night and for 10secs. This shows me the way to my workshop and also when I leave to go back to the house. Ideal. Proximity sensor is sensitive enough at 30metres. Sometimes it doesn’t come on until 10metres away but that’s ok for my needs.
Good price. Good product. Would recommend for a small access time window.
Really good and bright low cost PIR security light, could do with a longer power cable. I had bought this as a replacement for for an existing model and had to bridge the existing power connection with an additional 2 feet (65cm)
Something inside the unit on the glass thought it was a crack. If its plastic will it heat and cause a crack on the glass? Otherwise very happy. Thank you.
I fitted it four days ago and it works fine and gives a good daylight white without being too bright, it’s too early to give an opinion regarding its sustainability, ask me next yea
This light provides good bright and white illumination. the motion detection is fine as is the timer functions for activation time adjustments. The setting should be done BEFORE you fit it, as trying to do it with it mounted can be very challenging as the switches are tiny and unlikely you can read the numbers!! I bought this light to replace an almost exact same one I fitted 3 years ago. The older one also “Meikee” was still working however the motion sensor was filling with water and eventually the on/off and duration was erratic and couldn’t be relied on anymore, sometimes never going off!!! Also the replacement version, although slightly smaller size has a shorter length cable (about 6″/150mm), so meant I had to reposition it. Anyway, that’s my problem but the light overall is working fine right now. We’ll see in 3 years time if this develops a similar issue with the motion sensor taking in water. (hence the overall 4 stars rating)
The light arrived as expected and appears to be as described. In view of the current cold weather conditions, I decided not to fit it at present but made sure it works as expected. Obviously I cannot comment on the other factors (motion detection and water resistance) yet.
This is the third one of these lights that I have bought. The first 2 I bought for my parents home about 1 year ago and they are still working well. I bought the one for my home to replace a solar powered one that lasted about 10 months and cost more than this one.
The light came well packed and with decent instructions. It is easy to install. The chances are that you will need to join extra cable to it as it has a short cable on it.
The light is bright and the motion detector works well. There are different settings for the time the light stays on once activated and also one to come on during the day setting (why you would want it to come on when its light outside I don’t know).
All in all a good light and I would recommend it.
This was to replace an existing LED light which lasted less than 2 years and was sent back to my supplier for a refund as the guarantee was 3 years. In comparison, this light is significantly brighter which I would expect (this is 15W compared to the one I replaced 10W). Compared to my previous one, this led has better weather shielding to the elements, there is little chance of water getting inside the light fitting. It was particularly easy to mount and had a nice long lead, not too long but adequate length. It literally took me several minutes to fit. Also it just has 2 settings for the light (dusk setting so comes one at night when movement is detected and day light setting, well this comes on during the day when movement is detected). There are 3 settings for the length of time the light is on, 10 seconds (for initial testing), 45 seconds (which is what mine is set to) and several minutes for the 3rd setting. Less options mean less time faffing about. For me it works, its bright and seems good value for money.
On the first view it seems very good quality for the price. I purchased the 10 watt version and it seems bright enough for an average garden where it will illuminate to around 5 meters or so. We have used this for a security light on the shed.
It was super easy to install, mainly due to already having a light in the position so it was just a swap over job. The wire seems of good quality and enough length to get you a fair way in to where you need to wire it in to your supply.
Where the wire goes into the light section its very well made and sealed against the elements.
I would say the LED part of the unit is very well made but the sensor section will be the weak point of this.
It will be interesting to see how water resistant this part will be to the elements. I have no doubt the metal case of the LED section will be fine but the motion sensor, being just plastic, might let water through. Time will tell.
I have noticed that this motion sensor housing does get warm, so there are some components in there that might be drawing a lot of current, perhaps unnecessarily so, but perhaps this will be good to dry out the sensor part.
Downsides are that you cannot adjust the sensor on the up and down axis, only side to side. So because we have our light on a shed I would have liked to have moved the sensor up a bit to point down the garden, rather than down at the floor somewhat as it currently stands.
Left and right adjustment is no problem since the sensor has a pivot just for this movement.
It is a shame you cannot adjust the sensitivity of detection like some models, I would have liked the light to come on when detected further away. My position only detects me about 3 meters from the light. As mentioned, this could be because the sensor is pointing down a lot rather than straight ahead.
I would also like to have had an adjustment to come on at dusk/dawn, rather than just a night and day option.
We have another security light which has these adjustments so with a bit of tinkering you can have it come on shortly before dark (or before light in the mornings) which is very helpful. The MEIKEE only seems to come on at night only or on night and day but why would you want it on during during the day?!
I am not sure if there is a sensor to detect darkness, there has to be somewhere. I’ve not found it yet.
It is nice to see MEIKEE are quite responsive to queries and support questions so should anything go wrong they should resolve any issues. This was part of the reason I went for this model.
We are just coming in to Autumn so I will update this review after a few months to see how well it fairs through the winter.
Edit: so it has been a couple of weeks and the light is still working perfectly. We have had a LOT of rain over the last two weeks and the light has taken a bit of a soaking, but despite some moisture being present in the sensor it still seems to work ok.
The light section is still perfectly dry. Time will tell how that sensor holds up!
We needed to replace our old 300 watt security flood light with a new to us LED replacement. Important – The more brighter the LED the higher the wattage you will need and obviously the more you will have to pay for your replacement. What could be easier I thought ? I bought the cheaper 10 watt product and was surprised how small it looked visually in its tiny box. I though Ugh Ugh. It was a lot smaller that the old one I was replacing !!.
I also realised that my previous power supply with a 13 amp fuse needed to be connected externally via a weather proof connection which are cheap enough to buy. Problem is – if like me – there might be a possibility you might have to return the product if it is faulty. If so – you must be careful to make sure you don’t cut the wire or strip the flex back and still make a good electrical connection. First time round the product failed to work. I had to recheck everything the next day and found it was my fault. Most annoying. I did contact the supplier via Amazon and they said they were happy to replace the product with no hassle if it didn’t work. I was most impressed with the service they provided. Couldn’t fault them. The product works fine the next day. Not sure what fuse to use with the product? It is far too early to say if the product is any good yet. The wife likes it – so I guess that’s all that matters.
well for the price i was a bit unsure what rubbish would come …. but my god i was so wrong …. this light is amazing for the price ….i fitted many over the years as a sparky and this unit is well worth buying … its pre wired which helps a lot …i just screwed it to garage sofit and got the cable into garage and put a plug on ….. setting pir was easy too …id buy again no probs 1st dec 2019 …. i have to add ….. the light had been working fine uptill last nite … the P.I.R is clicking to turn light on but the light just has a faint glow no proper light to see by …..ive sent it back for a refund .. but to be fair ive re ordered the same light to see if it was just an odd one faulty or wether they are just too cheap to be any good …. will get back to you all on that one !!! 01/12/19….. just taken broken one down …. ive taken it appart to see if anything seems wrong with it or water had got in with all the rain we have had …..nothing !!!! these lights are well built water seals all in the right places and no water or damp in anywhere …. so it has to be the electronics…..and after 36 years as an electrican its broken and its for the dustbin …… will get back to you on how the new one gets on ….. shame if its down to a little part on a circuit board because the lights are well made ….
Was impressed at first sight of product, pleased that it was not too bulky and looked well designed and compact and that bolts retaining the light to bracket looked like stainless steel. The security lamp was purchased to replace a previous light on the outside of a garden shed. I noted that previous reviewers said that the cable attached to the sealed unit was too short but I did not find this a problem as I only needed to attach it to a cable that was already in place from the previous light fitting and connected it inside the shed using a terminal block but will probably replace this with a fused spur switch at a later date.
After initially trying to install it outside on a freezing cold day with very numb and frozen fingers, the light switched on as expected when first connected to the supply but the PIR kept failing and it looked like it was working intermittently. I was planning to return it to supplier as faulty but decided to disconnect it and set it up in my garage connected to a 3 pin plug and it worked perfectly. When I was disconnecting the unit I had noticed previously that the screw in the terminal block left an impression on the live cable covering and this had resulted in a poor connection. The reason for this was that cable ends covered in solder are way too short and could do with being a couple of mm longer to ensure that it gives a positive connection. I gave the product only 4 stars for this reason and in hindsight I would recommend any new purchasers to initially try the light out indoors connected to a 3 pin plug and after stripping back a few more mm of the cable covering to make sure you have a good positive connection to make sure it works. Otherwise I am very pleased with the final fitting and now working perfectly and would recommend this product.
Looks to be very well made. The main lamp housing and bracket is all metal and the sensor housing a sturdy plastic. The sensor housing has plenty of directional adjustment. First impressions look to be well sealed and the LED technology should I hope be more reliable in the cold than halogen based lights. The Lux, timer and sensitivity adjustments work well. Good area of detection. Sufficiently bright enough to illuminate the patio area which is adequate for lighting the way with a clear soft light for these dark winter nights, I have the timer set for 30 secs operating on time and set for turning on when nearly full darkness which is adequate for lighting the way. Of course at 10 watts power consumption is very low. I have the beam pointing quite a way downwards to avoid nuisance. Only just installed so long term relaibility as yet unknown. Sufficient cable to pass through the wall to inside for wiring up. If I were to make recommendations to the manufacturer they would be to make the mounting bracket with horizontal adjustment as well as the vertical so as to be able to direct the beam and better instructions for setting up with mention to use a 3A fuse when cabling up. Cabling requires earth wire so bear in mind if intending to connect to a lighting circuit. If you set the sensitivity a little too high then I found once triggered tended to turn back on after going off… Just turned it down a little
The light arrived promptly and boxed exactly as shown in another reviewers pictures. Firstly with LED its hard to get your mind around 10W giving you the same lux as a 60W. Personally i would say this lights more like an 80-100 watt bulb when standing under it. I had a 500 halogen before so its like chalk and cheese but the idea is to light the dark path and door outside at night so i can find keys and get into the house and this it does well for 10W. Save money on electricity and blinding ur neighbours too. It is smaller than you might think from the pictures. The back plate at the point of ingress of the cables has four chromed screws and compresses a seal against the body to maintain a water tight fit..the cable is sealed by a compression ring. I was hoping the cables inside would be terminated by screw fastenings so i could remove the cable fitted. I wanted..for ease..to use the existing cable to the old light. This had terminated in the old light in a cheese block and took seconds to unscrew after 20 years up on the wall. Unfortunately the new light has crimps sealed with poly caps. The only way would have been to cut wires which i didnt want to do on a new light. 60-90cm of cable as supplied is really not enough cable. It barely gets you across the house wall cavity..that is what it does. You then have to start terminating under your floor boards. This meant ripping up bedroom carpet..taking up floor boards..a cupboard door off..searching for a termination block etc and being cramped double upside down under the floor once i had got the new units cable across the cavity which is never as simple as it should be. Can you see how just being able to fasten in the existing cable would have made fitting so much easier.
The bracket supplied is ample in rigidity to take the load of tge unit. However.. there is little clearance between the bracket and tge bottom of the PIR. Think for a moment? The braket is U shaped. If u have the bracket mounted to a vertical surface unless you want the light shining in ur face the light to one extent or another will need rotating to 90 degrees to point down wards.! You may wish to annoy your neighbours by lighting their garden too but i feel most of us use this light to illuminate tge area under which you have mounted it not to blind someone approaching the light. Also this angle affects the scope of detection of the sensor..more later. Anyway u want the light pointing down using a U shaped bracket and when you rotaye it down the PIR causes a foul condition with the cable if you route it through the hole kindly drilled central in the bracket base. The PIR hits it when the light is 90 deg downwards. If you mounted the bracket to a wall then drilled the wall for the cable with the bracket in situ then came to remount the light and swung it..i can imagine being annoyed. So id suggest having a cable entry into a wall above the bracket and not through the bracket as drilled. There are 3 variable potentiometers on the base of the PIR. Pointing tge light down tgey get hidden for adjustment. You have to keep tge light loose and fiddle with them until ur settings are correct before tightening the pivot bolts. 2 of the 3..outside 2 the middle one is for duration of time the light stays on…the outside 2 are both sensitivity…i think one is for daylight sensitivity but as yet im not sure . It appears one turns the light off completely..you might think the light is broken as it will not work in one condition. I find them hard to read..to see..in an awkward place..hard to get large fingers on and they rotate outside the markex zone on the moukding..please see photos supplied by other reviewers..in a photo theyvlook great..up a ladder in daylight ..pivotted against a wall its very hard to see. A nice light..works well..cheap to run..reasonable build standard..needs other parts to mount and connect succesfully. Hope this helps people???
