Merrell Men's Moab 3 GTX Hiking Shoe
Merrell Men's Moab 3 GTX Hiking Shoe
Shoe sizes are not standardized. Every shoe manufacturer uses different measurements in terms of instep height, toe shape and foot width. However, the basis for your own shoe size is always the length of your feet. Thus, you should always determine your foot length before buying in order to choose the right shoe.

Well made. Very comfortable to wear. No breaking in required. Good cushion soles. Sturdy on uneven surface. This is the 4th pair I have purchased. When I find a product as good as this I stick with it.
This my fifth pair of these, I wear them all the time and go through them typically within 9-12 months. Once the sole is worn out I order a new pair. Weirdly the black ones seem to be a bit wider than the beluga so I tend to buy those now. Waterproof to a point, by the time you are 6 months in that seems to give a bit.
Outstanding pair of walking shoes, for the price range, I couldn’t ask for better.
I recommend going a size up. I normally take a size 8 but it was too small but they quickly swapped them out for a size 9 which fit perfectly.
Update, now I have had these walking shoes for a little while, I have found one major problem with them. That being they are so superior to any other footware I own, that I have ended up wearing them constantly.
I have had a number of different makes but have bought Merrell Moabs again as I find they last longer than some other makes, particularly the sole. Always comfortable. I bought a nice blue pair because they were cheaper – don’t know why!
Hi, I’m very happy with these shoes. I also bought a pair of Salomons but these fitted perfectly and were more comfortable to walk in. I would rather do a long hike in these than the Salomons.
A free pair of hiking socks were included which was a nice touch….
Impressed after two thirty minute dog walks. Does seem to be waterproof enough after walking on wet grass and comfortable enough. I ordered a half size larger than usual side and glad I did as fitting a bit narrow. Hoping it gives with a bit more wear. And purchased at a really good price.
Update: just walked dog in the pouring rain and feet remained dry. Good waterproofing.
So I ordered the 12, 12.5, and 13 (UK). And I spent a little bit of time with them all inside the house. Only the 12.5 sat right with the arch of my foot.
However none of them gave me the space in the toe area that I was used to with my (now discontinued) North Face Hedgehogs. Which surprised me as I had heard the Merrell’s were spacious. On further research Only the US variants come in standard, and wide.
While I kept the 12.5’s, when I started using them in anger I have sadly realised they are not the shoes for me.
The Vibram soles are fantastic, fairly similar to the hedgehog’s.
2nd pair of these. Replaced after 6 years. Worn every day dog walking in fields. Many many miles! . Always ordered half size bigger. Fit like a glove. So comfy and always dry feet. Never had any issues apart from lace change after 3 years. Excellent!.
I’m a UK size 9 in most shoes I’ve ever bought. Reviews recommended buying a half size bigger in rhese Merrells, so I did. They were too small – lining a 9.5 against any of my UK size 9 shoes showed they were smaller. I ended up having to get a UK size 10.5 in the Merrell walking shoe to fit me. Not sure if this is a Merrell thing or the particular batch. But I’d certainly recommend going at least a whole size bigger than your usual. Sizing appears to be hit and miss
When you get the right size they are really comfortable. Great walking shoe.
The sizing is way off I am a UK 7 but after reading reviews I ordered a UK 8 and received them but still too small.
Ordered UK 8.5 these were spot on giving me a thumb width at the front of the toe box that you need especially for downhill so your toe doesn’t smash into the front.
BEWARE.
Seriously comfortable hikers.
Half a size bigger than normal fits me perfectly.
Put the waterproof claim to a gentle test (long, wet grass) and it was fine.
I like the low-profile look of these shoes. I have read some of the key professional review sites’ opinions on these shoes and they say they ‘do not look modern enough’. Well, give me that every time if that means they look like normal trainers and they perform like proper waterproof hikers.
I’ll admit I don’t have the same confidence in these shoes’ waterproof capability as I do with my Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX (which pretty much failed in the uppers after three years).
But I went in with my eyes open and the Moab 3 GTXs are a great buy, in my opinion.
This is my 4th pair of this Summer hiking shoe over the last 8 years so must be good for me to keep returning to them. 2 things to be aware of; A -they are a Summer shoe, light and airy, but not advised for Winter use, and the big consideration, B – they are small fitting and you should order at least 1 size larger!
The guy at Go Outdoors recommended these shoes for people with broad feet. Saved 17.00 buying through Amazon although they were supplied by Blacks who I understand are part of the Go group. I normally wear boots for walking but decided to try something different. They are comfortable and wide enough to accommodate a rather large bunion. I’ve given 4* because they have not been tested in the wet but they do have a goretex lining so my feet should stay dry and if they do I will update my review to 5*.
These shoes are so comfortable you can use them from anything to hiking or just a walk to the Pub.
I had a pair of Moab 2 shoes before that didn’t quite fit right. These Moab 3s seem to have a bit more space in the toe box and are really comfortable. Didn’t need breaking in, fit well, grip is good. Very happy with them.
So if like me you want to save a ton of money on the high street store prices, you’ve come to shop here. I wanted a good walking shoe which was water proof and had a real focus on inner sole comfort so I opted for these after reading the many reviews. First of all you’ll be scratching your head at what size do you get because it’s not the size you are that you need! You’ll then notice people saying half a size up or one size up so which is it? Now it’s down to use and preference. I. Opted for half a size up as that’s what most people said so I took a gamble. Now I can tell you straight out of the box half a size up with a very thin sock felt absolutely bang on for me. The only time on my first walk that they felt a tiny bit small was walking down very steep declines where all your weight is pushed to the front of the shoe and so my big toe was right up to the front. This leads me to the conclusion that if you are a professional downhill walker or wear thick socks, get a size up or for normal use like me, cliff and road walking, the half up was fine but neither are going to be entirely wrong.
To start with the shoe was tight so I released a bit from the laces and they were then perfect. When put on you literally feel taller as I imagine this comes from the very comfortable vibram sole. Now some people have reported that because of the sole it leaves your heel to far out of the shoe and I can totally see what they were saying because it does feel like your heels are more exposed and it was at this point I thought I’ve made a mistake but bare with me on this. You know how when you buy a new bedroom pillow it is all nice and puffed up and keeps your head nice and high to start with and then after a week it’s gone a little flatter? Well it’s kind of like this but not in a bad way. It’s like a tiny break in period, bearing in mind that I’ve only used them on one cliff walk for about an hour or so. They felt absolutely fine after about 15 minutes if I’m honest. I felt like I was walking in a 6 month pair of shoes, not a day one. No pain, almost a bounce feeling and complete comfort. Obviously this is day one so I can’t report on longevity or water tightness as it was a beautiful sunny day but so far I’m sold. Great shoe and (on here) great price. I saved about a third of the high street price I’d say.
Very comfortable shoes ready to wear out of the box. Goretex provides good waterproofing but remains breathable. Only downside is the reduced grip on wet surfaces.
I bought these to replace a pair of lightweight walking shoes that had given me good service.
They are well made and although a bit tight and stiff initially, they are now wearing in and are very comfortable and have good grip.
A good summer walking shoe for not too difficult terrain.
The shoes are very comfortable but as others have said you will need to go up a size when wearing with hiking socks.
I have lost count of how many pairs i have gone through, not because they are faulty but because they are great and cover so many miles. On one occasion a new pair straight out the box and 25 miles over three peaks along the end of the Ridgeway ( something I would never do normally ) Fantastic fit size 14 and arch support fo very high arches
Comfortable. Does not seems as wide a fit as my previous Merrell shoe, maybe will stretch a bit with wear. Strangely, same UK10.5 size was EU45 is now EU46.
Nice shoes but I have ordered merrell’s in size 12 before and no issues. This shoe comes up a bit shorter and narrower at front in a 12 than usual for the brand. Have since ordered a 12.5 which is better. I think maybe an issue with the conversion from us to uk sizes.
Very happy with these really comfortable with good grip and most importantly the price was excelle
I was looking for waterproof hiking shoes for both casual and fairly long walks both on and off roads and tracks. I’ve already done an 8 mile mixed walk with no discomfort or blisters and I find the shoes are great. A little disappointed with the traction on some wet surfaces as I have a pair of heavy duty boots (Mendl) also with viberim soles which have much better grip so deduct one star but overall a great buy for the money. From my experience it seems very difficult to get the sweet spot (weight, waterproofing, well vented ) in one shoe but you won’t go too far wrong with these if you have regular size and width feet.
One other thing I live in Ireland and would much prefer to buy from shops here so I can try them out however none seem to have sufficient stock or any!! in size 9 for some reason I can’t fathom so I’m forced to buy from UK or Germany, crazy !!!
I found these shoes a little strange at first as they have an insole that is quite high at the instep. But after a few minutes I didn’t notice any more and i now find them perfectly comfortable. I notice other reviews question the waterproofing, but I have found them to be perfectly waterproof so far. It’s worth noting that there is a Goretex (GTX) version of these shoes and a cheaper version without the Goretex. My GTX pair are waterproof.
All in all I would recommend.
Size 44 (9.5) perfect fit although i’m Usually a 42 on the high street. Immediately comfortable. Had dry feet after hiking in wet weather for number of hours. Like the look and colour options.
