Good and sturdy, nice size, not to bulky. Strong magnet on the end of the tape, holds the weight of the tape if you want to get a measure from a height. One of the better tapes I’ve used as an electrician.
I switched to Milwaukee tape measures in the states before moving to the UK never had issues but this is off one mil when pulled, accurate when butted up. Made me angry when I realized but at the same time I used it daily for two months before I caught it so obviously not that big of a problem. Wouldn’t suggest it for trim or woodworking but for anything else I do it works great. Outside of the off one mil it’s my favorite tape I’ve ever used!
Bought this for use at work the magnet comes in handy the numbers are big and clear to see the tape retracts slow and is of a decent quality / finish
As a carpenter/builder, I have been through countless different tape measures over the years and can honestly say these Milwaukee tapes are the best I’ve owned so far. I don’t work in feet and inches, so it’s a real advantage for me to have a tape that’s only metric, especially when it’s printed on both the top and back faces of the tape.
They have a strong magnet on the end hook which is useful for setting out metal stud work.
The manufacturers claim a throw out length of 3.4m, which is slightly longer that realty, it’s more like 3.2m if you hold it really steadily. This throw out length is only achievable if the tape is brand new, once it’s been used daily for about a month, you will be lucky to get 2m.
Like any similar metal tape measure, if you manage to kink the tape during normal usage, then it’s days are numbered.. it will crack and snap very quickly once this has happened. They are no tougher than any other similar brands.
They are definitely worth about the 12 which I normally pay for them, but well overpriced when offered for 20 or more.
Great tape. I would be on my 2nd fatmax in the time I’ve had this aprox 3 month(ground worker) & this is showing little signs of wear at this stage. Being in my 40’s the sights going a bit the big numbers & doubled sided help. Would recommend.
Easiest to use when in your hand due to the gap to hold your tape BUT please fix the belt clip! The wire belt clip doesn’t clip onto lops or material pockets (i.e. my utility shorts/trousers) it just pushes them dow
I first bought the 8m tape thinking that it had everything I wanted ( mainly that it was double sided and metric only ). The quality is excellent and having double sided and metric only is really excellent. How many times have you tried to measure something and the metric side is on the wrong side? With this tape the metric is on every side! Including the underside! But a months use and I found the 8m tape just too large in the hand for general use. These Milwaukee tapes are big. My advice would be to only buy the 8m if you need 8m, it is a very big an heavy tape and just not as easy to use in many situations as the smaller tape. The 5m is a LOT smaller. The tape itself is the same width but for some reason they manage to pack it in a much smaller body. And I mean width ways too. I have added a photo so you can see the size difference.
Anyway, excellent quality tapes. Buy one!
I bought this tape measure because it is metric only and is easy to read,it is also printed on both sides of the tape which I find very useful. It has a strong magnetic which is great if your a metal worker like me. The blade is wide and sturdy which stops it from bending easily. Overall in my opinion a very good tape measure.
Great and dylurable tape. Bought this as I don’t really use inches in my work. Only downside is that is dosent retract as easy as my stanley fat max tape.
It works great until now, never dropped down from my hands so I don’t know how strong is it, magnet is a great plus when you are working with metallic objects! just I’d like the numbers be in n a white background.
