Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am 86 years old and play this regularly with the U3A group where I live. It can be played to a high level of intensity or a game with children. Very good for using the brain. I love i

Good quality. Nice tactile wooden tiles. Easy to play for all members of the family. Could even simplify it for the youngest by just achieving a row of colour rather than the added shape element. You need a table or floor space to play. If you take just the bag with pieces not the box it is easy to take away on holidays too.

The tiles are made from wood and feel as if they will stay in good condition. The bag is also well made. Quirkle is colourful and easy to learn. If you can play Dominoes and Scrabble you can play this. My grandchildren (8 and 6) picked it up easily and enjoyed it and were able to add up their scores. It would have been even better if there had been some racks included for the tiles without having to buy them as an add on.

Played this at friends over Christmas and we all really enjoyed it so came home and brought one.
Great game, easy to pick up and can be played with the kids, teenagers and grandparents

I originally bought this game years ago to play with my younger kids. My sister now has it and this year my 80 year old mum requested it as her Christmas present so that she can play it with her 70-80 year old board game buddies.

This set of Qwirkle was a Christmas gift for my 11 year old granddaughter who lives abroad.
I ordered it thru Amazon.co.uk and it arrived in time, thank goodness. I play the game often
and wanted to help the family learn it while I was visiting, since I play it a lot at home. It takes
one or two games to understand how it works, but after that, it’s really fun! It is more visual than
Rummikub and takes longer to have a game, but you figure out strategies with experience. It
also requires keeping score, with attendant addition skills. It’s good for 2, 3, or 4 players.
It helped me get thru the pandemic.

Great game, easy to learn. Have played with adults and kids and everyone has enjoyed it so far. Doesn’t take too long so if you are playing with kids they don’t lose interest and can always play a few rounds if you want to play longer as different each time

Bought for my granddaughter’s birthday having been recommended by a friend. Great game for all the family. Really makes you think. Bag for the pieces makes it really easy to keep everything together and carry around.

Some friends had bought this game and we enjoyed playing it with them so bought one as well. It can be played by 2-4 people. The game states 6+. Depends on the kids. It would be ok for travelling depending upon what type of trip. If you were flying you would have to put the wooden tiles (which come with a drawstring bag) into your hold luggage – bit bulky but not a substantial increase in weight. There is no board to worry about as it can be played on any flat surface. Would be good with kids, making them concentrate on what is happening and how they can use what others have done to let them win. Have a go and enjoy.

Great game for 2, but also for 3 or 4. Very quick to learn, but not so easy to win. Comes with a bag for the pieces so you don’t need to keep the bulky box, and it’s easily portable. Only needs a small table to play, so you could play it on a train, or in a caravan or boat. Wooden pieces are very solid so it should last a long time.

Liked the sturdy wooden pieces – fine motor skills are not needed to pick hem up. No need for reading or speaking, so fine for those with poor hearing or who do not speak English for example. Bright colours on a black background and distinct shapes are also helpful for all, including those with some impairment of vision. Can also be enjoyed by adults who want to be competitive and complex strategy to outwit their opponents.

I brought a second qwirkle so that we could play with two versions with more people. We play this with family and friends who all love it. My son has autism and learning disabilities but he picked this game up easily and really enjoys it two years on. It goes to most places with us and we often play it as a group hence why we’ve got two! We took it on a family holiday, out for dinner and it always keeps my son occupied and all ages of the family love it from 8 to 70!

Quirkle is suitable for children and adults alike. If you can match colours and shapes, you’re halfway there. It’s easy to pick up the basics, with strategy coming in slightly later.Apart from the playing pieces, all you need is a pen and paper for scoring. Quirkle score pads are available, but any cheap notepad will do the same job.
The one slight minus is that the blues and greens look very alike in dim light, so this game is best suited to be played in daylight or with bright artificial lighting.

My parents bought this a few years ago, we play every time I visit, we’ve just had to buy again because after years of almost weekly use the colours have worn. Definitely worth buying, it’s simple and fun to play and the wooden pieces are well made and sturdy.
The original set is still playable, only got a new one because my mum has eye trouble and can’t see so well. I’m actually going to repaint them so it can be used as a back up set.

This is a super family game. Even young kids can pick it up quickly and figure out the patterns. The wooden tiles are sturdy and can easily withstand the bumping around they get in the bag during the game.

One thing missing is holder’s for the tiles which are actually available as a separate add on (you get 4 wooden racks, a pencil and a score pad). Minus 1 star for that odd flaw.

    Otherwise a super game

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOne of our new annual Christmas games. Purchased after reading reviews. It’s a solid made game, wooden squares with different colours and shapes which you have to match with the aim to lay six tiles and thereby claim a quirkle which gets you 12 points. We play this most weekends now, it’s not a long playing game, play until tiles used up then add up the scores. Simple to follow, and suits all ages. Some tactical moves to try for most points but really easy to play.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI purchased ‘Qwirkle’ so that we had a game a family member, who has impaired vision, could play this Christmas. Within minutes of explaining the easy to follow instruction they were happily playing the game, and required only minimal follow up guidance.
Both the parcel and game pieces were well wrapped in heat sealed cellophane, and all pieces were clean and of good quality, no damage noted.
The game pieces are a good size making them easy to pick up. They have brightly coloured symbols with a black background thus making it easy to differentiate the different designs and colour of symbol – although the red and orange symbols can be muddled up if playing in poor light.
The instruction leaflet is as brightly coloured as the game pieces, it is paper and opens like a booklet. Very easy to read and follow with clear images backing up the written instructions.
My only very slight negative is the box lid does not fully go back into place if you put the pieces in the provided bag. I think I will eventually discard the box as the bag is substantial enough to hold both the pieces and instructions with room to spare.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersQuality wooden cubes with a gloss finish and hugely tactile. A sturdy cardboard box with a gloss finish and quality cloth, drawstring bag. Easy to follow instruction booklet and a really lovely game played by two to four players. Game duration 30 – 60 minutes with the first player to finish gaining a six point bonus.

Instruction synopsis taken from the instruction booklet…

“OBJECT ~ Strategically use your cubes to build lines of colour and lines of shape. Score points for each cube in a line that you create or expand.”

“SET UP ~ You will need pencil and paper to keep score. Place all the cubes in the bag. Each player draws six cubes and rolls them to create their hand. Everyone plays open-handed with all of their cubes showing at all times.”

“HOW TO PLAY On your turn ~
    1. Choose which cubes to re-roll, if any and roll.
    2. Add cubes to the grid. All of the cubes you play must share a single attribute, either colour or shape. Your cubes must be added to the same line but they do not have to touch one another.
    3. Record your score.
    4. Draw cubes to bring your hand up to six. Roll these new cubes and add them to your hand. If you are unable to play you must re-roll all of your cubes until you can play.”

“You score an additional six- points bonus whenever you complete a line of six cubes- this is called a Qwirkle. A Qwirkle is worth twelve points- one point for each of the six cubes and six points for the bonus.”

For increased possibilities/more players, a second box may be useful. These cubes are also enjoyed by my pre schooler. They help with shape and colour recognition, matching, sorting, simple cube dominoes, building, sets and counting. Superb for fine motor skills with hand eye co ordination too. It’s great building tall towers then knocking them over using party blow-outs; kazoo that unfurls when filled with blown out air and curls back up again. This is brilliant for enjoyable breath control exercises too. The box states not suitable for under three’s due to the small cubes. Obviously this depends on the individual.

    Cubes ( 90 )~ approx 2 cm squared.
Box approx ~ 12 cm squared.

A most satisfying purchase, we find Qwirkle Cubes to be a superb multifunctional game.
