Yes, it is plastic. But the transparent parts are glass, unlike many of the metal lanterns, and glass is more transparent and doesn’t get cloudy with age. I’ve had a number of metal lanterns, and the metal always deteriorates after a time and looks terrible – after a while you can’t undo the screws, which is why I bought this replacement.
The screws connecting the backplate to the lantern itself are admittedly short for the duty – however, I would suggest placing a small blob of blue-tack behind them, particularly when installing on a rough surface – this will keep the screws forward so that you can connect the nuts to them more easily – it will compress as you tighten the nuts.
Some people have problems with the room for the electrical connections – although I didn’t have a problem, I find that Wago connectors make the connections simpler and quicker, and furthermore can be secreted into the body of the lamp more easily.
I’d buy another of these over the metal version any day.
Good light on looking didn’t fit it as it didn’t have a dusk till dawn sensor, nothing wrong with the actual product. would keep it if it had a sensor.
I liked this lamp, it’s plastic but Easley to install, you need to buy some electrical wire blue and brown just the two wires, and a plug, it is value for money, I put it outside on my garden fence works fine would buy anothe
Good value, difficult to keep the rubber seal on when installing on 2 wires, bought for an old shed to fit in with the surrounding. I wouldn’t recommend for a new house or fancy lighting as it’s of cheap construction. Looks good from a distance. Very reasonable price at 20 quid.
