Have used this to wire a connection from my router to my gaming PC, smart TV, internet bridge for a smart thermostat, as well as a Blu Ray player and Virgin Media TV box. All work fine, but the Blu Ray player didn’t play nice with it at first. This turned out to be an issue with the player itself rather than the network switch, and now it’s all working in glorious harmony. I mean, it’s Netgear, obviously it’s good.

I will add pictures later but for now, short review I bought this one as backup and expansion plans for when Fibre arrives which is been currently made available in my town, the one I am using is a four-port same model type and has lasted since 2017 and still working like new
I was replacing another Netgear switch, this was so easy to swap in. If you just need extra ports and don’t want complicated port assignments this is the one for you.

Honestly, this stuff will far outlast its usefulness. I have a Netgear RP114, made with the same high quality materials and processes. If I wanted to, I could still be using it today, but ADSL technology has moved on and it’s no good to me now. But it still works 100%. More than I can say for the cheaper plastic garbage that most manufacturers put out.
I’ve got full width rack-mounted Netgear routers and switches as well as half a dozen of these smaller, externally powered units. Can’t fault them at all.
Works perfectly on our 500mbps network. We get the full speed through the switch without any slowdowns. The switch also feels very durable with it having a metal case and im guessing it’s going to last a long time.
Fit and forget. I have used Netgear products before and this one is reasonably priced. It is designed for small networks as it doesn’t have a facility for management, either local or remote.
I use another switch in this range, the 5-port version,. This one has a similar design and is just as simple to set-up. Plug in the PSU and ethernet cables and that’s it up and running. There has been the odd occasion when high traffic volumes (I have 2 x NAS, a Mac Mini running as a server & an iMac connected ) have slowed down transfer speeds; almost as if reaching the limits of an unmanaged device.
Hence the 4-stars.
Otherwise, it’s a solid & reliable product.
I had run out of ethernet ports on my router and needed at least two more for new devices. This switch got good reviews on Amazon and I’d agree. The case is metal and feels very solid. Setting it up couldn’t be easier; genuinely plug & play. Plug the supplied adapter into a convenient mains socket and the other end of the adapter cable into the socket on the back of the switch; then run an ethernet cable from any ethernet port on the switch to an available ethernet port on your router; then power up the adapter and you should have seven (7) additional ethernet ports available on the switch. Plug in devices to these ports just as you would do to the ports on your router.
Because of the switch I now have Ethernet going to my TV and other devices. The speed and quality of my internet going to these devices has gone up. No more buffering when steaming and no dropped WiFi.
The switch is very easy to set up, just plug in the power, add you internet Ethernet cable to one of the ports then add the other device to the reaming ports.
Get this switch if you need faster internet to your device in the same you you have an Ethernet cable going to.
This “NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Network Switch GS308 | Ethernet Switch | Ethernet Splitter | Plug-and-Play | Silent Operation | Desktop or Wall Mount” is required in another room to serve a TV and other devices located within it – a network extender was previously used but seemed often to lose signals from the router and thus cause the connected devices to not provide certain functions, over-air updates in most instances. The packaging contains the switch and its PSU but not an Ethernet cable but several were available.
The old extender was recently replaced by a more powerful alternative that is claimed to offer much improved reception and signal strength although it is limited to a single Ethernet port on-board rather than the four of its predecessor. This will provide the additional ports needed and a few spares, should they ever be needed for a laptop or any device that may be needed in the short-term or anything to be permanently added later. It was available at a price similar to that of a 4-port version.
It is quite rugged, the original being accidentally pulled from it desktop location to a hard floor on several occasions and it just keeps working. Connected to its PSU and switched on, with an Ethernet cable connecting it to recently added network extender, it is now fully functional.
I bought this as copying files to my NAS was taking ages over Wi-fi (3Mbs a second). Connecting my laptop and NAS boys the switch I’m not getting 20-25Mbs a second. It also seems to have helped the WiFi performance of other components. I have lots of devices connected via WiFi and was also using Devalo home plug devices (which are bloody useless…. So much for German engineering.. cheap TP Link home plug beat Devalo any day).
The switch is unmanaged, but you don’t need to do anything apart from power it on and plug in the cables. I’ve wall mounted mine above a door to keep it out of the way and it doesn’t seem to get hot at all.
I didn’t need 8 ports, but who knows I might cable some more devices.
I suggest using some decent flat cables which look much better running along the skirting boards. I bought some Cat 8 cables complete overkill for what I need, but thought I’d future proof ready for better switch and network ports.
