The cheapest phone i have ever seen with such big configuation. I bought for my wife. It will be my next manufacturer near future
Looks good. Bought it for my wife and we are waiting for our son to transfer all the data across from her old phone.
Instead of my usual review format, I thought it appropriate to objectively and concisely list the reasons why you really should buy this phone.
6.4-inch AMOLED screen with various settings to reduce eye strain. No screen lag when scrolling or watching a video clip.
Premium build quality usually found in more expensive big name brands.
Excellent customer telephone support, who incidentally advised me that most OPPO phones, including this particular model, ship with a factory fitted screen protector. I will however, still keep my additional purchase of Gorilla Glass screen protectors, just in case.
Unlike a couple of previous reviews critiquing the OPPO Find X3 Lite 5G camera capabilities, I found it better than expected at this price point.
The latest version of Moto g had mixed reviews and seemed a little expensive for what it was, so after watching a few YT reviews decided based on price / performance to purchase this Oppo phone despite having never heard of the brand previously.
I’m so impressed, battery life is 2 days, charging is fast, screen display is beautiful, seems several times faster than my old phone and android is pretty stock similar to the Motorola’s.
Overall does everything I want even the case and factory applied screen protector seem more than adequate.
The camera I haven’t used much, however the images I have taken I’ve been very impressed with.
I recently did something I’ve never done before, managed to drop my (relatively) new phone in the garden pond! When I fished it out after about 30 seconds immersion in 20 cms of muddy water. The YT video I’d been watching was still running! Really thought that was the end of my lovely new phone…
The case is such a tight fit on the phone that no water appeared to have got onto the phone back, which was dry, however I was able to shake water out of the charging and/or headphone port. Standard remedial action was taken …hair dryer, rice, airing cupboard etc. and to cut a long story short the phone showed no I’ll effects and has functioned perfectly now 2 weeks following immersion. Needless to say I’m gonna try very hard not to test the water resistant properties again and would not recommend anyone else trying it either!
Overall I’m very impressed with Oppo and will be eventually looking to replace my wife’s newer Moto g with this brand when the time comes.
For the price this is an excellent phone. The specs are high but the price is low. Does everything you would expect a more expensive phone to do. So far I can’t fault it. Recommended.
Brought this phone for the camera and its great the phone is clear and responsive best buy
Extremely responsive, crystal clear AMOLED screen, battery life very good at nearly 2 days between charges but I don’t be stuck on phone 24/7. Very quick charge 0-100 in about 20-30mins. Extremely happy with this phone, would highly recommend it!
The phone is very good for the price. It runs smooth and the screen is fair. I haven’t used the camera very much, but for the moment it’s ok. Nothing to complaint about. Let’s see after few months of use, but looks very good to me. I could transfer all the data from one phone to another within minutes, so less of a headache. The colour it’s truly stunning. It comes with a clear case and a screen protector. So far so good.
Battery life: it lasts significantly longer than S10, albeit perhaps not as long as I expected. The 65w charging speed is very impressive however – it charges 3-4 times faster than my S10.
Camera: the selfie camera is better and sharper, especially in low light conditions. But X3L’s rear cameras aren’t better than S10s rear cams. The colours aren’t better, and I found 64MP mode useless – it adds little to no extra detail, and has very limited aspect ratio. Only tested in indoor and cloudy lighting conditions though.
Performance: I don’t game, but in day to day usage and multitasking, it’s as smooth as my S10 (perhaps more so because of 90hz screen), even with high performance mode turned off. There might be some temporary lag after you first set up or update your phone.
ColorOS: a bit disappointing. There are quite a few quirks that make it less seamless than Samsung’s One UI, e.g. eye care mode annoyingly turns off on lockscreen or any fingerprint unlock prompt. There are also some quirks that make it better – e.g. there are three dark modes.
Build quality: as solid as S10.
Overall, it’s quite good for the price.
Bought this for hubby. Had oppo before. He loves it. Decent camera, easy to navigate, good fingerprint recognition.I got one too but id previously had Sony…. I prefer Sony. This frlt like old tech to me.
I really like this phone. It comes with a case and protective screen cover so you really don’t need to buy anything else to be able to use it.
I love the fact it has facial recognition as I’ve never had that before. The camera is simply awesome and takes some really good photos, even in the dark which I’ve never known from a phone before.
I would never have even looked at this if it weren’t for my son having bought one a year ago.
He took some slow motion videos of my owl flying experience which were beyond impressive. You would have thought he had used a professional camera with separate lense.
It wasn’t expensive either!!
This phone more than meets my needs and I am glad I upgraded from my 4 year old phone.
There’s loads of RAM so the apps don’t freeze and the 256GB storage is a huge increase on my previous 32GB.
I would definitely recommend
Buying a Chinese phone from China is like crossing a minefield. 90% tut, remaining 10% can be truly Amazing. Oppo are without doubt in my opinion the Number 1 phone manufacturer in China. This phone is faultless.
8GB 128GB . Full HD. It ticks all the boxes , sound quality and video quality superb. I was desperate to find one fault after 10 days thorough testing and could NOT. If this phone was priced at 399 instead of 229, it would still be a bargain. The 5G yes 5G components are again of high quality. Go grab yourself one. The blue colour is lovely. You will not be disappointed
Overall the phone is great and apps feel great on it.
However, the facial recognition was not too great so I used the fingerprint. The battery is cool but depends on usage. If you are heavy phone user the battery will drain faster. I am not a heavy user but it drains 40% of the battery daily.
Other than that I am enjoying the phone.
Fast, reliable, fantastic build, stunning camera, long lasting battery and plenty of storage. What more could I ask for, especially at a fraction of the price of current market leading smartphones.
If you’re looking for a new smartphone, this is it.
I’ve this phone for about a month (replacing honor lite 9). So far it’s been great to use, charges super quickly, good pictures, sound quality okay, picture quality much better than my last phone. I’ve not quite got used to the slightly larger size and weight but it’s still much smaller than many of the current phones available for a similar price/spec.
First Oppo phone and I’d happily recommend.
Only slight niggles such as can’t get to one handed mode as easily as could with my previous phone.
Finding the phone clone option useful if want to focus on certain tasks as can have some apps on one but not the other so don’t see it and think ooh I’ll just check that.
I came so close to the OP9 but the omission of Optical Image Stabilisation on the cameras put me right off and I didn’t want to pay the extra for the OP9 Pro, so I decided on this for the around 500 mark.
What can I say about the phone?
Performance is great.
The cameras are superb in both video and photography modes.
The specification with 256GB internal storage and 12GB of ram are excessive but nice to have.
5G performance on EE is incredible, it’s nice to be able to finally use the network to its full extent.
Build quality is wonderful, no issues there at all.
Accessories included are perfect with headphones, USB C cable and a 65W fast charger which charges the phone nice and quickly, handy if you ever need a top-up.
Having Google Pay/NFC included is great also.
A great handset.
Ive been looking for along time at what I could find that’s new and decided it would be the find x3 neo or the OnePlus 9. (OnePlus is basically oppo anyway) I’m so glad I went with this one and I’ll explain why.
Build Quality:
build quality it great, I love the colour, I went with galactic silver and it’s beautiful, I love how it changes colour depending on how the light reflects off it. It has a nice matted glass back that doesnt show fingerprints (none at all) although this does make it feel a little bit like plastic but it’s better than being smudgy and ugly all the time! The phone does have a bit of weight to it but also surprisingly light for the size, but it’s enough to feel premium, the craftsmenship being up there with Samsung!
Display:
The screen is one of the best, covered with gorilla glass 5 and a nice screen protector out the box, it has a slight curve on the edges but doesn’t seem to cause any issues with accidental touches, the 90hz refresh rate is nice, obviously not up there with the 120hz powerhouses but it’s definitely a win over iPhones 60hz… The colours are amazing and is a truly great panel! HDR10+ also supported.
Camera:
Exceptional actually, it really is a great camera, there’s 4 built in but I’m not really sure what part they all play as I focus more on the standard modes, with portrait mode also being a great go to that works probably just as well as Samsung and apples offering.. not up there with pixel but it’s not far off, good dynamic range, white balance and focus, everything’s good and I’m really surprised by how much it impressed me!
Software:
This is what sold it for me, I mean it’s android so.. well… It’s android! and I know what to expect, but it’s the other bits, the color os and oppo bits that made it for me, it’s fun and different ( a good change) how long it’ll last on me I don’t know, but I am loving the experience! It’s clean and modern, little animations here and there and features everywhere! You can also personalise it as much as you like.. now when you first set it up the standard home screen mode is a little annoying and doesn’t have the app draw but after navigating round the settings I was able to change it! Talking of the settings app, this is probably my only complaint, things are difficult to find in here and navigating is a pain to say the least, nothing is where you expect it to be and it’s all a bit confusing, I just stick to typing what I want into the search and let it present itself to me! It’s annoying but not a turn off.
So to summerise a few pros and cons
Pros-
– build quality
– camera
– screen
– software
-its different
Cons-
– No wireless charging
– the odd stutter when doing some tasks
– last year’s processor
– no waterproofing or dust resistance rating
Overall I’m really happy with this phone, and just thought I’d share these points with anyone thats maybe not sure on their next phone, it shouldn’t disappoint!
I think I might be a new oppo fa
With 256GB of memory, there’s plenty to spare even when I load up with a lot of music to play in the car.
I have the silver version – which is stylish and IMHO, looks good! Overall, everything seems to be well made and sturdy. The mobile has a reasonable weight and feels good in the hand.
The display and the cameras are brilliant. Charging is amazingly rapid and the device comes with a silicon case and a ready fitted film type screen protector.
The Android 11 implementation is reasonably “vanilla” without an overload of bloatware. What there is, can mostly be easily disabled if necessary.
I used the OPPO cloning app on my old Xiaomi and remarkably all my settings, data, media files and apps transferred over rather painlessly. I’ve not had that before! I presume life was made easier by both mobiles being on Android 11.
Just one app failed to transfer – and I simply reloaded it from Google Play. I then deleted some of the Xiaomi bloatware that managed to make it across.
I did have to manually set up the Home Screen in my preferred “drawer” mode. I also added “File Manager +” as it also provides seamless local network access to our home NAS/Media Server. So, I can download music and films, and upload photos etc.
I have had no issues with WiFi, NFC and Bluetooth. 5G gives some amazing data transfer rates. Battery life is usually more than sufficient for me for a day.
So, overall I am most chuffed! The mobile is a joy to use with performance at a par with many flagship devices. The Amazon option of 12 monthly payments make it a viable alternative to a long term agreement – with the flexibility and savings of a “SIM Only” contract.
However, this is not a cheap device and there are a couple of small gripes:
– No glass screen protectors work on this device as keyboard and fingerprint sensor sensitivity are lost rendering the mobile unusable. So, unlike me, don’t remove the factory fitted film screen protector! I have had to replace it with a soft ‘hydrogel’ one…
– It appears to be impossible to lose the Google app from the home screen tabs (RH swipe). I managed to get rid of it on my Xiaomi but OPPO seem to have blocked that option. You can disable “Discovery” (that chews data in the background) but Google Search annoyingly remains…..
– The mobile is dust rather than water-proof.
– There is only a small choice of cases available – particularly wallet/flip types.
Wireless charging would have been great but the rapid charge capability does compensate.
I Like:
– Glass-backed not plastic (but only on the silver version)
– Dual Sim
– Super-fast 65w charging.
– Eye-comfort option on the screen.
– It’s a good size without being excessively large
– Fingerprint and face recognition very fast and effective.
– Factory fitted screen protector
– 3.5 mm jack
– Wide angle lens for camera.
– Front camera hole is very discrete.
– Nice look and feel.
– Fast overall performance.
– The 64 megapixel camera is defaulted to a lesser resolution (to keep photo size down)
– I feel it’s a nice looking phone with a nice feel, and the silver finish looks almost like polished metal in some light conditions.
– Oppo Customer Support has been responsive when needed.
I Don’t Like:
– In the normal mode the home screen has no ‘Apps’ Folder so everything just appears automatically, if there are pre-installed Apps you don’t want to see your home screen pages, you must copy them to the ‘tools’ folder.
– the volume settings erratically turn themselves right down sometimes which leads to missed calls.
– frame/bezel looks like metal but is in fact plastic I think.
– Loud speaker sound quality seems less good compared to my old Samsung A3.
– Flashlight is considerably dimmer than on my old Samsung.
– Android Auto is pre-installed but apparently there is no way to launch it. However I raised this with Oppo who informed me that you can download ‘Android Auto for phone Screens’ thin in-built install I guess only works if you have a very recent car.
– User interface on Settings, Widgets, etc. looks and feels rather low-end, it’s better on my 5 year old Samsung A3 2016 and generally there is not much configurability, basic settings seem difficult to locate.
– 3.5 mm jack is on the left-hand side at the bottom of the phone, thus interfering with typical desktop phone stands, would be ideal to right next to the charging port.
– The coating on the glass back makes it feel like plastic. The coating also reflects various colours in certain lights (maybe some people would like this) I would have have preferred a straightforward shiny metallic look. Overall the phone feels quite nice in your hand. A high-end look and feel is v. important to me personally and I absolutely reject plastic constructed phones, which is quite limiting these days.
– Icons on notifications bar, and pull-down notifications are excessively tiny, making it difficult to see them, or to hit them easily, this seems not configurable. (Android 12 recently rolled out has improved this somewhat)
– Icons generally have no choice or configurability unless you sign up for a 3rd party app.
– The front camera hole, positioned at left side, whilst discrete, gives a misalignment which makes close up selfie taking a little awkward, and also easy to partially obscure the camera with your thumb.
– Poor use of screen space — widgets and icons don’t use of about 5 mm of space at each side of the screen– given that having a larger phone is already irksome, you’d think that manufacturers would optimise screen space usage as an absolute priority…
– Minimal water proofing ip52 I believe (by now I’d expect to see this feature at this price)
– No contactless charging.
– No SD card slot, but 128 Gb should be plenty I guess.
– SAR emissions seem to be on the high side.
– Standard SMS app seems very minimalistic, not a nice look and feel. Same for most of the inbuilt apps.
– I took an indoor photo in artificial light with the wide-angle lens and the result is very grainy.
– Comparing an indoor artificial light photo between my Samsung A3 2016, and the Oppo, there is little discernible difference in quality, expect perhaps Oppo image is somewhat brighter.
– Can’t find any options for voice commands on the Camera.
As I say, quality look & feel is very important to me, and given that most phones are technically competent these days — it becomes a key differentiating factor — see how Apple have finally got it right with the iPhone 12. I would probably have bought a mid-range Samsung if they offered glass construction but they don’t anymore. Or, at my price point, an LG Velvet (though a bit on the large side) – which seemed to have everything I would want – but LG are closing down their mobile phone business.
Hopefully, Oppo or someone else will step up to the space vacated LG, by providing a mid-range phone that gives quality look and feel + all the important features at an affordable price.
