So I bought this back in January after thinking about it for about 2 years. I’m pale with dark hair, so the perfect combo for this model, but was still unsure whether it would actually work. I mainly bought it to use on my bikini line, as that’s the bit the bothers me the most. I would usually get a wax but hate growing it in between. I was initially put off by having to shave first but after about 2 sessions I was already seeing it working!
I haven’t used it as regularly as I should but the results have been impressive and I am so so pleased I bought it. No longer have to plan ahead if I know I’m going to be in a bikini, it’s pain free and lasts far longer than a wax! It worked well on my armpits too, it didn’t work as well on my legs but my hair isn’t as dark on my legs and I didn’t do it as often as I should have.
I normally use it plugged in as it’s quicker but it is handy being wireless just for when I want to use it without the faff.
I waited a while to do a review and I can honestly say if you’re thinking about it and have dark hair you should go for it, it’s been a game changer for me. I don’t mind that it doesn’t last as long as professional laser as I get to do it as and when I please without the expense.
Good value for money and work very well. I am happy with my purchase. Thank you
Absolutely awesome device. Saves money and hassle in the long run. Easy to use. Good results noticeable on few weeks. Highly recommended.
Was a present. So happy with it. Only thing. The cost and the cordless doesn’t last long
Be aware: DONT USE ON YOURS TATTOO.
On my first time I didnt know about it and I used causing a inflamation, burning and huge pain. My tattoo has been damaged!
Definitely reduces hair growth but it’s hard not to get gaps with doing a treatment so there can be inconsistencies. There are plenty of tips on the app saying that.
There’s a lot of guidelines about how to use this in the instructions and the app – I watched all the tutorial videos but they kind of say the same thing so I’d just watch one – practice is the best thing to learn how to use it anyway.
It’s def not the easiest thing to use – it’s so hard to remember where you’ve done so I’ve started to use white eyeliner to draw grids like in my laser appointments. I might be a little too thorough when I do it so it did take literally 3+ hours to do full leg, bikini, armpit, lower stomach and under my chin.
I found it VERY painful at times when I was just blindly using intensity 5 everywhere but this has been better using the little identifier button on the device which said I was mostly a 4. Also a lot of the pain is when you’ve used it nonstop for ages as gets very hot.
So the results: the after I just took today of my legs – I’ve done 4 treatments 2 weeks apart and an extra one around my knees where there were stubborn bits. Knees were just shaved a couple of days ago so will see if anything grows back, but everything else is G O N E and I’m very happy. For bikini area, there wasn’t too much regrowth to start with and most went after 1 or 2 treatments. Inner labia was the bit laser didn’t really touch, and I’ve still had a couple of patches after 4 treatments but I’m confident it will all go in time as it’s reduced massively. (NB the guidelines say not to use it here! but I’ve had no issues?)
Armpits, stomach and chin were areas I’d not had laser – stomach is gone, chin is dying down (I just had the odd black hair under chin) I’d say armpits have about 30% hair left after 4 treatments but they’re super quick to do so happy to just keep going.
Obviously treatment time has massively reduced now I’m just focusing on the small stubborn bits, and I’m super happy overall but do bear in mind the negatives – time, pain, difficulty using – when purchasing.
I use to wax my hair always having to schedule things around my waxing appointments, I couldn’t shave before because my hair would grow so black and fast back, I was a little scared to buy this just because of the shaving part but WOW the results are amazing on my legs and underarms.
This does the job it promises to do. I started by only treating the hair on my left hand side so I could see without doubt if it works and it does. I am so delighted, after only 2 treatments it is clear that the hair isn’t growing back. If one considers the cost of getting this treatment in a salon then the item is the cheaper option by far. It’s win-win on performance and price. Would highly recommend.
Every hair removal method I’ve ever tried has always ended up in the same place – ingrowing hairs and regrowth in less than a day. Summer is always fairly miserable, with my legs burning after seaside paddling, and glowing with daily shaving rash.
Enter the Lumea. I was dubious, and read every review I could find before investing. Even then, I wasn’t convinced – so I duly cranked it up to its highest setting of 5 and went over every area twice to begin. (This is against the manufacturer’s recommendations, so I’m not suggesting anyone else does this. It may well not even be safe.). I repeated the process a few days later because hell, I’d already shaved everywhere, so what did I have to lose? In all, I probably did 4x full-blast, overlapping treatments in week one.
Everything I read on their website and elsewhere on the science of IPL says that doing it more often does not increase result. Yet for me, it seems to have worked magic.
It’s been 3 weeks and I still have not had to shave again since that initial week of treatments. There are a few patches on my legs, yes, but they’re growing so slowly that I was able to treat them again this week (my first time redoing it), still without needing to shave again first.
My underarms and bikini area are still stubble-free enough to wear swimwear with confidence. My legs no longer have that darkness where new hair growth is visible beneath the skin, and for the first time in adult memory, I have zero ingrowing hairs to contend with, anywhere. I cannot stress how unusual all of this is for me. I’d normally have more regrowth than this in 3 hours, never mind in 3 weeks.
If this is the most it ever does for me, it’s already been worth every penny – but given such little sign of regrowth, I’m optimistic that results will last much longer than 3 weeks and continue to improve more with subsequent treatments.
I haven’t found it painful at all – occasionally a little hot-feeling in sensitive areas, but 99% of the time I can’t even feel it whatsoever. In fact, I find it quite fun, and even slightly addictive. Sadly, my husband has vetoed me doing his legs, or the dog and the cat, so I’ll just keep going on myself and enjoy basking in the freedom, finally, from a lifetime of body hair trauma and grief.
UPDATE: 1 year on!
As Spring comes around again, I thought I should update this. I haven’t used the Lumea since last summer. Overall I’d say I’ve used it for about 5 ‘binge’ sessions since buying it, sometimes spread over a couple of days. That’s all it’s taken for me to get amazing results.
6 months on from my last treatment and I’m still able to go bare-legged in dresses and skirts without shaving. The areas that I haven’t treated as much have some regrowth, but it’s finer and lighter than it ever used to be.
My bikini area has basically 0 regrowth – I suppose it’s still too soon to call this permanent, but it’s lasted 6+ months with no sign of return, so I’m optimistic.
I’ve noticed that areas I treated with the tinted attachments (eg the underarm one) have regrown, so I’m now using the clear-windowed attachment now in all areas, on the maximum setting of 5.
Likewise, areas where my hair is naturally lighter or thinner have taken longer to respond too, but it’s no big deal.
A little over a year on the and device is starting to malfunction – it thinks it’s flashing when it isn’t. It’s annoying for such an expensive purchase but then I have completely ignored the instructions, to be fair!
Overall, the Lumea is well worth it, especially if you have the fair skin and dark hair combo. Extras like the attachments, cordlessness, skin sensor etc are not necessary though, so if you can find a cheaper model with the equivalent lux (the brightness of the treatment light) then go for that instead.
Happy zapping!
