After shaky start (the DVD faulty) I got it set up with help of Canon and now it works fine. It replaces a similar printer which stopped working when Windows 10 was introduced. If I had been made aware of this I would not gone to Windows 10 as previous printer worked fine|
once the faff of installation is done it works well – some settings can only be accessed via a broswer whcih can be confusing – this deal with added ink is a bargai
Replaced this printer like for like as previous one broke down after 7 years, so I went for more of the same as it has been really reliable. Don’t use it often but do use it regularly. Easy to set up wirelessly. Ink can be quite expensive but lasts quite a while. Would recommend this printe
Bought this printer via Amazon last month. Totally satisfied with the purchase. The Printer works very well and caters to my needs. The delivery of the printer was quick too.
Print quality is good. Which is of course the most important aspect of a printer.
Ideal for photo printing of excellent quality, and so easy to do straight from your mobile phone. Child’s play. I’m not going to bang on about speed, noise and all the technical stuff of basic printing because that’s all down to personal preference but what I think you need to know is that you CAN NOT PRINT DOUBLE SIDED, that is not good.
Secondly the ink replacement is really expensive so prepare yourself to be shocked when reordering! I haven’t been able to find any cheap alternatives. For the price the printer itself is ok.
What you need to do is use the USB printer cable (if you have one handy), disable your firewall on your computer, run the USB wireless setup part of the installation program and then update the firmware on the printer and finally patch the printer driver. Date of Note 20th March 2023. Sometimes after a while you will see that the Wi-Fi icon on the printer screen will have a cross near to it, well basically it is only sleeping, so what you need to do is press the network button on the printer to reconnect to your router, and if the cross symbol changes to a series of curved lines then you should be able to print.
Printer (now it’s set up) is good. Trying to set up was troublesome. Advised to download an app, which I did, but the model no. was not listed. Managed to find more info online which enabled me to set up. Each device had to be set up individually (laptop, iPad, iPhone) which was time consuming. But once all done the printer is good value as it was one of the cheaper model but for home use is great.
Another economically good printer from Canon for use in the home and possibly small businesses. Sadly, as with all Canon printers the enclosed set up instructions border on rubbish and make set up confusing, frustrating and more difficult than it should be! Ignore the enclosed instruction and go straight to the canon website, support, download drivers and then set up, took me 10-15 minutes.
Delivery service was excellent.
Everything arrived in a plain white box, with the product box containing the printer.
The instruction manual and other documents, including the power supply cable, two ink cartridges. One black ink the the second one for colour, and the CD ROM installation disc.
At first I was concerned there was no USB connection cable. But that was ok, as I found the USB cable from my old machine was compatable. The USB port is located at the top right hand corner of the back of the unit. Do NOT connect the USB cable until indicated by the CD ROM installation disc !
The CD ROM’s very easy to follow step by step guide, will present you with the option of either USB or Wi Fi. Simply click as appropiate.
The scan and test print was very easy to follow and the result was very clear and crisp.
You may even find YouTube videos, on how to prepair for setting up your printer from out of the box, which is very helpful for anyone doing this for the first time. But the CD ROM really is all you need, as it makes everything very easy to follow.
Very pleased with my new Cannon printer.
I needed to replace my previous printer, as I couldn’t get the inks for it anymore, so I researched and read reviews, and opted for this make and model. I’m pleased with it so far. It was easy to install for wifi enabled devices, you just need to install the Canon app and it more or less does everything for you. It supports five devices. I’m looking forward to several years of trouble free printing!
I have had canon printers before and have worked OK, I find a printers life is no more than about 3 years and they are not worth trying to repair. I used the CD to sent-up the printer which was fine but can be a bit stressful.
The product supplied was the Pixma TS3350, which was stated to be a later version of the Pixma TS3150 taking the same inks, works well but slightly noisier, an ideal general-purpose printer so recommended.
I suppose for the price this printer is OK. I bought canon because they take thicker craft paper, however, there is a very small menu of media choice, e.g. photo glossy paper but no setting for matte photo paper. Also I have to adjust the colour or it is too red. Oh and it’s noisy although I think there is a setting to reduce the noise but I haven’t tried it. This doesn’t sound like a very good review but I am Ok with the printer for the price.
I needed a printer for occasional printing; no particularly special quality requirements or posh features. The printer should be able to provide this.
After ordering it about middays it came the next morning. Quite impressive!
Physical appearance is presentable; it’s reasonably solidly built. Physical setup is easy, just be careful not to touch the contacts and jet area on the cartridges.
The printer comes with standard size b/w and colour cartridges; extra large ones are mentioned in the advertisement; they are more expensive than standard; at least one review I saw reports problems with actually using XL cartridges.
I needed about 1h to set the printer up for PC and smartphone. Could be done faster with a faster network connection than mine (>150MB downloads) and knowing the network name and password in advance (you may find this printed on the back of your router).
Without basic experience to setup hardware it could also take much more time than an hour – there are some steps in the process that can go wrong. However, the setup process is mostly automatised. You can either setup using the provided DVD or using a network connection.
I used network setup, downloaded the setup tool from the link provided and followed the steps it suggested. As said, you need your network name and passcode at some point. The calibration process failed twice – I skipped it then and calibration turned out ok anyway, although the printing rage was a few millimetres out of the paper on the left side – not too much of a problem as most documents allow for some borders. One other Amazon reviewer suggested that after several months of use the printing area may get more out of range. Should that happen I may have to figure out how to calibrate then.
Printing quality is ok for an Inkjet printer. There is also the usual noise and rattling. Nothing outstanding or unusual.
Wireless connection to both the PC and Smartphone worked quickly (after searching for the network key for quite some time). The setup tool basically did everything.
The device worked well as a printer, scanner and (combining both) copier.
I have not tried any of the additional software packages provided. Probably not needed other than as gimmicks.
Best thing about this printer for me is that it DOES take card up to 300mgs which being used for craft work was a must for me. It prints efficiently and clearly. It comes with regular sized ink cartridges that have lasted well, despite my relatively good use of them. It is a bit jerky and noisy for a modern printer, but no issue to me. It took a while to set up using WiFi, but is a massive bonus to be able to link it from several devices. I used the CD for the stand alone PC and the Web version to set up my laptop, both work well. It’s more time consuming than difficult. Took about 25 mins each. Well worth it though. Its a scanner too. Also, I realised that to print multiple copies of a scanned sheet, just press the scan button as many times as you want copies. This isn’t in the instructions and I discovered it by trial and error. It looks tidy and both the rear feeder tray and the front finishing tray fold in and flat. It’s quite big though. Really pleased with i
Ordered as a rapid replacement for a terminally failed 20 year old HP Deskjet printer, with prompt delivery by Amazon. The main use is for Word and Excel printing. This was purchased with some trepidation after viewing some poor reviews, but it works well as a basic printer using only the Pixma TS3100 series ‘Getting Started’ guide supplied with the printer, and a few decades of computer experienced. The mains power lead connects into the back of the unit with no floating power supply block. The USB (type B) connector is well hidden, recessed at the rear behind the control panel.
Despite using windows 7 professional, the drivers downloaded from internet automatically (via windows update) once the printer was connected and detected by the OS. The only optional software downloaded from Canon was the IJ Printer Assistant Tool to permit print head alignment and selection of quiet mode. I have no WiFi requirement so cannot comment of this aspect.
The noise level was higher than the previous HP printer but it is faster. A printer ‘quiet mode’ can be selected via the ‘Canon IJ Assistant Tool’, which is effective and reduces the print speed slightly, which is no problem for light use.
The scanning and copying features behave ok, as expected. A useful feature is a selectable auto power on/off.
The desktop footprint depth requirement during operation is twice the physical dimension of 31 cm due to room required for the paper input/output trays. 10 cm clearance at rear with paper tray touching the wall (paper bent) or 14 cm with paper flat and just touching the wall. The printer can be pushed back when not in use but 4 cm clearance is required if a USB lead is connected. The front paper tray extends 9 cm but A4 paper requires 19 cm clearance as it is deposited over the desk. This leaves a 65cm depth requirement when in use.
Ideal unit for light use, and becomes more acceptable for printing from a noise viewpoint when quiet mode is selected.
When duplex printing (manual) the paper feed takes sheets from the front of the stack, and prints on the visible (facing) side of the sheet, the previous printer printed on the reverse side.
Standard print cartridges are provided, not the small ‘setup/test’ supplied by another well known manufacturer.
With the apparent increase in printer prices and nil/low stock levels (probably a consequence of increased home working), a set of ink cartridges remains generally more expensive than a new printer with cartridges. For the previous HP printer 145 for a HP brand cartridge set, or 62 for a compatible set. For this printer typical prices are 28 for Canon fine standard size, 45 for canon fine XL size, 34 for XL compatible.
I have found that with light/occasional printer use, it is false economy to buy ‘compatible’ or large ink capacity replacement cartridges as they just dry out, or waste ink/time in trying to unclog the heads.
Super impressed with this.
To be honest I wasn’t expecting that much for 29.99 but I was really pleased to be proven otherwise.
Was easy to set up and up and running in about 5 mins. Plug in log onto cannon webite link given, follow simple instructions and voila – done !
Wireless connestion was seamless and its pretty much plug and go and with FULL inks, black and colour.
Scanning/photocopying facilities and able to switch between black and colour at a push of a button and different size paper.
Printed some A4 and was quite quick and really good quality.
I cant believe all this for such a price. Cant praise this highlly enough for a small home printer and you get a lot for little money. With the price of ink cartidges nowadays, when these inks run out, I’ll just bin it and buy a new one.
I honestly cant think of or find anything negative about this or highlight any little niggles or issues as I had none.
Brilliant !
I bought this so that I could sell items online and print out the postage labels for collection. I went for one of the cheapest printers I could find, but was pleasantly surprised with the quality for the price. Prints out labels very fast and they are perfectly printed.
It was a breeze to setup on my Windows 10 laptop and after following the easy setup guide I had the driver and software installed, hooked it up to the wifi and had my first shipping label printed in 10 minutes.
One little annoyance was having to install the colour ink cartridge or the printer wouldn’t work. I wanted to just install the black cart and wait until I actually needed colour before installing the colour cart.
The only real negative is that the ink is very expensive due to Canon putting the print head in the cartridge to get around third party ink sellers. So to buy a new full set of inks it almost makes more sense to just buy a new printer. I have seen some refilled cartridges online, so hopefully they work ok. The other option I have seen is refilling kits that contain a hand held drill bit and syringes to refill the ink carts. I’ll update my review when I give it a try down the line.
When I bought this I do admit I spent a few hours trying to enable to wifi, to no avail. I was about to give up, when I posted a plea for help on Amazon’s Q&A on this page. One gentleman suggested I ring Canon, so I did. Wait time was five minutes at the most and I found the adviser to be friendly, knowledgeable, resolving my issue straight away.
Which was, if you want to get the Canon TS3150 onto your home network, to enable wifi printing, all you need to do is press the network button on the printer once, then the WPS button, mine’s on the side of my router and then the network button on the printer once more. At this point three bars should appear on the display screen and this means it is wifi enabled. So you can then go to print a document and the computer will say your printer is online.
So now it is online, I believe it is worth just under 40. Canon printers are the cheapest to run ink wise. Not only this but it looks good, its relatively fast and quiet, which is all I need for personal use, the ink comes out looking quality and also I like to have the scanning function, which not all printers on the market have (even those more expensive than this one).
I think this is the best option on Amazon and therefore probably anywhere right now for home printers. Plus with Canon customer support being fantastic and Amazon’s returns policy faultless you can’t go wrong. I highly recommend this product.
Oh no it broke again but Amazon were great about it, posted a returns label and gave me a full refund.
A cheap and mostly cheerful printer to replace a faulty Canon MG5650 (TS3150 is likely cheaper than getting MG5650 repaired!)
Build quality is average at best but then this is a budget printer built down to a price I guess.
It was easy to install and set up, it auto detected the relevant wireless network and connected to that network without issue.
Note, the standard install routine didn’t seem to include the scan driver or software so had to download that from the Canon UK website (the download is called “TS3100 series MP Drivers Ver.1.00 (Windows)”) . Once installed, scanning worked fine.
Print, copy and scan quality seem pretty good for such a cheap device but print speed is very slow – not a concern for very light users like me but you may want to consider other products if you print a lot of stuff. As ever, the Amazon delivery service was excellent, arriving the next day as promised.
It will be interesting to see how quickly it gets through ink !
Update — the black cartridge supplied with the printer lasted around 7 months under light usage which is pretty good I think. The original colour cartridge is still going strong.
Very nice printer easy to set up. Maintains its wireless link better than my previous allinones. Print and scan quality very good. Drops one star for me because I do not find the software interface very intuitive unlike previous printers. But that may be me rather than the printer as I do not have a lot of patience as I am getting on in years. So don’t let me put you off the printer. A big plus for me is how cost effective the printer cartridges are. Also the trial cartridge lasted for a decent length of time unlike HP cartridges which run out 5 minutes after installing them!
