FATHER QUINN: A PATERNAL FIGURE

Colin Salmon’s stature was a perfect fit for Father Quinn. “Colin is an imposing figure,” Stamm explains, “and we were looking for someone who could convey the character’s gravitas and be a formidable opponent to the demon. Quinn functions in the ancient world of the church but exudes a modern intelligence.” Producer Paul Brooks claims that Quinn’s relationship with Ann is nothing less than “the heartbeat of the film,” adding, “He sees something unique in her, and he’s willing to bump up against some of his colleagues to help her.”

Salmon says he was just as impressed, if not more so, with the character of Ann than with his own on-screen incarnation. “I was intrigued by Quinn, but Sister Ann is nothing less than a new kind of film archetype,” he notes. “I can’t remember ever witnessing a character like that.”
