Despite poor finish these are bird boxes are ideal size.
Delivered swiftly – one had small split to front that I filled with pva wood glue and both did not have a hanging gouge drilled in the back wall to enable hanging, so I will have to add a hook of some sort.
Have painted with barn paint and when dry and aired, will get these up in garden.
Not disappointed with the price I paid.
Hinged roofs have a screw drilled down to secure and it was this screw that had split the front wood panel on one box.
They’re not bad, whether any birds move in remains to be seen.
One issue, the paint/stain on the lid bled into the lighter wood when it got wet. I don’t think it’ll affect the birds, just looks a bit untidy.
I bought these as a gift for my next door neighbour, who loves her garden birds (and they know it!!!!!!). They are well made, for the money. They are perfect for small birds like tits, finches etc., but too small for starlings, blackbirds and thrushes. The only thing that let’s them down is that the roof is screwed down, so to open to clean out, you need to unscrew it. It is hinged though so some kind of hook or clasp fastening may be more appropriate. My neighbour is looking forward to chicks and watching the fledglings appear this year.
These are fine nest boxes and good value, however they do little to aid the housing crisis and you would be hard pressed to fit more than three refugees per box.
Bird boxes arrived very quickly and well packaged. I hung them up in a secluded spot in the garden and within an hour the blue tits have been assessing if it’s suitable!
Happy overall with these bird houses. As others have said however, the wood doesn’t appear to be treated (I did it myself and it soaked right in) and they don’t come with perches as the pictures suggest.
However for the price, Im happy. Hopefully the local birds will be too.
NOT BAD FOR PRICE>>GOOD BRASS FITTING>>BUT NO PERCHES AS PICTURE SHOWS>>WILL FIT MY OWN, PLUS GOING TO GIVE THEM A COAT OF VANISH TO MAKE THEM LAST LONGER..
They look little like the pictures. The wood is paler but is pressure treated. There is no perch but nestboxes are better without them. Many reviews lament the absence of a perch but they are not advised, as they give access to predatory birds – check RSPB and BTO advice. The fixing hole on the back actually has a brass plate which is a nice bonus. Hinges are good and you’ll not get better for the money.
For the price, these bird boxes are of good quality. They fit onto a wall very well by the pre-drilled holes.
The only issue I had with them, is that it does not have the dowel perch that is shown on the images of the item.
These nest boxes are absolutely fine. Trouble is, no bird found them as appealing as me and they remained empty through the breeding season. I’ve since followed RSPB advice and moved them to east and north facing locations. Fingers crossed for next year.
Lovely bird boxes just as pictured and good value for money. Took one star off as screws were not placed very well and could injure the birds but easy enough to fix.
Mine arrived well packed and exactly the same as the picture with the perches at the front. We put them up and within minutes (I’m not kidding!) a blue tit came down and gave their new des-res a good look over. I’m sure they had a tiny tape measure and where checking to see if the sofa and bed would fit through the hole!!
