Purchased this more then 1 year ago and all I can say its that it was a very good investment….its sturdy…paint didn’t start flaking…and actually I am going to buy another one for my other climbing rose.
A couple of the connections took a big of effort to get the holes to match up to get a screw through, but otherwise easy enough to put together. Looks good and much taller than I imagined.
At first I was all fingers and thumbs putting it together, I suppose ideally I needed someone to hold the obelisk whilst building it, but I never give up and after 1/2 hour eureka! My new Clematis plant is already half way up the obelisk
There were no instructions but it was fairly easy to work out what went where. Some of the pipes v=were a bit bent and one of the holes didn’t line up so I had to leave a screw out. Cheap and cheerful. I wait to see if it will stay in the ground and support the climbing rose.
When the tiny box arrived I realised it was self assembly! Four hours later I had it done! BUT you need the right tools. The nuts on the screws are TINY, TINY TINY. Don’t drop on floor! But I found a spanner in my “man’s drawer” that did the job. You really need this to tighten it all up. So, it is up and so far has survived two really windy days. Good value for money though. PS I haven’t assembled the second one yet. Need to be in the right mood – with a good film on TV and know it i going to take some time…… aaah. Best for sturdy plants like a rose but I have sweet peas on it doing fine
I checked the pieces and a few were dented where they had to join. Pushed them back into a circle and checked I could slot them into each other.
Just follow the reviews for starting at the top and working down.
It took me 15 minutes to then put it all together.
I could not tighten the screw and nut together. I found an old bike spanner and could then fully tighten them.
Hence, only 4 stars.
This metal garden trelli is quite sturdy and provides good support to the trailing plant I have. It was easy to assemble as it came with a series of instructions that was easy to follow. Only con is that there was no tool or screw driver to fit it. Overall quite happy with the purchase, though it is slightly on the expensive side that I would have liked
It’s not too difficult to assemble if, as other reviews state, you start at the top, construct the rings first and loosely put the bolts in until all in place. However, it takes a lot of swapping parts of each ring until you get them all reasonably aligned. It may bother some people if it looks slightly askew. I just wanted to grow a potted jasmine, which will cover it eventually, so not overly concerned. Sturdy enough for the price.
I understand why most reviews are either Great or Terrible – it depends on whether the product received had screw holes of the ring sections drilled at the right angle. When they are not, it’s twisted out of shape or unusable. Of the 12 ring sections (part ‘b’) in my delivery, one was not at the right angle. You can see that from one of the pictures, and it means the ring is hopelessly twisted – see the second photo. When straight, it is simple to assemble, I recommend top down and don’t tighten the screws until it’s all assembled. It’s cheap, so not really heavy duty and sturdy, but perfectly adequate for most uses, even my vigorous climbing Generous Gardener rose. After a night’s sleep (to consider my options), I decided to keep my faulty product because 3/4’s of a bottom ring will still work and I can’t get anything else as good for this price. Good luck with the one you get!
I read many of this products reviews first but having checked the reviewers other reviews I found they where largely left by people who expect everything done for them and are less than competent at home assembly
I made a cup of tea and set it aside I read the notes and assembled the obelisk my tea was still hot when I was finished it’s only 13 screws and nuts the rest is push fit it’s easy if you start top down and assemble the 3 x rings first one tip if you need the full height insert 4 lengths if dowel or bamboo cane into the lower legs and push it into the ground up to the first inch or so of metal.
