I know from using a similar mouse trap that mice learn to remove the bait from the bait cup without setting the trap off, as the bait cup is not connected to the plate which triggers the trap. I assume rats will also be able to do this, so I set the trap by putting peanut butter on the trigger plate itself. The trap has caught 2 rats so far, and I’ve been able to reset the trap both times. I did think it may have broken the second time as it took a few attempts to reset, but it worked in the end. Not sure how long it will last, but it’s doing it’s job so far.
I’m very pleased with this trap, it has killed three rats so far., which have been plaguing my balcony, digging up my planters and destroying the plants. In my opinion it’s well worth the money. The kills are clean, there’s no mess and the body can be dropped into a plastic bag for disposal.
The trap was delivered next day. Put it down the same day with peanut butter and small dog biscuit and BANG. the rat was dead. I have reset the trap as they say if there is one..there is more so 1-0 to Sean. Don’t waste your money on anything else this trap is a winner.
Value for money and quality likewise. Have set it now for a week or so and nothing has come near it yet but I live in hope.
***Update ***…..arrived 14th May, finally caught a rat 7th July, returned from 2 week holiday hanging out washing and heard screams…..hadnt checked it up until then had put in hedgehog food when we first got it, as we had seen it on camera come into the hedgehogs feeding station. So happy with the result have amended the star rating……Product arrived no box or instructions but from reviews on here I knew how to set it up. The rat in question appears to be resistant to the rat poison I’ve been using in the past and proved to work. I’ve tried the bird seed, as thats what it seems to be going for. I’ve tried peanut butter and bread, as mentioned on a review, and, as I’ve caught it on my night vision camera helping itself to the wild hedgehog food I’ve tried that too. All to no avail it walks past the trap on its way into and out of my garden. It’s a good sturdy contraption though and when testing to check it works makes mince meat of a wooden skewer.
Having tried several rat traps, this one actually works. The combination of this and nother reviewers recomendation of using turtle food as bait works well. Caught one rat within 24 hours and the other a few days later Highly recommended.
Traps are small and neat – so easy just to open the lid to top up bait food. Instant visible indication that the trap has been activated and caught a target.
Had this for 3 days now and killed 3 mice .
Brilliant bit of kit .. very swift in killing with no blood .
I just fill it with dry dog food and BAM .
Well worth the money .
We live next to a wood so I think it will get plenty of use .
Nothing just rats get wise to it only caught 2 rats 2 mice in 4 weeks still more running around
Caught 3 rats in just over a week with this, all other traps have been triggered and left empty but this has caught 3 – also very safe if you have children and pets around.
Took a few days for the mouse to trust the trap but after a while the temptation of the nuts inside the trap was too great and it worked at killing the mouse. The cover did pop open though probably due to a struggle from the mouse as it was a full size one however the unit worked as described. One thing I would note though is it doesn’t appear it would be big enough for a rat but works well with mice.
Wasn’t sure how well this would work after finding rats coming from under our shed. We are surrounded by fields and other wildlife so poison isn’t an option that I would be happy with. Put the trap out and left it for 2 days before baiting it with peanuts. Caught the first rat within a few hours. The jaw is very powerful and the trap is simple to set up with clear instructions, I put a biro in to try it and it smashed it to bits so I can’t imagine Mr Ratty would’ve felt anything.
Apart from the fact that the address label was stuck over the detailed box instructions, all good and after two days, had completed the job!
Definitely use with crunchy peanut butter.
Sorry Ratty, sadly a coexistence was not to be!
Bought this trap, 5 days ago, must admit when I opened the box I didn’t think it was big enough to catch the rat we had in our garden, I was wrong. After 5 days of the trap being set it has despatched 3 mice and the said large rat
The trap itself is extremely powerful and would have killed the mice and rat instantly.
All I used is what they were eating from the garden, ie Bird seed and porridge oats, which my wife leaves out for the birds
I trapped a mouse the first night and a rat three days later. I like the ease of loading the bait and setting the trap, which seems sturdy enough. There is no danger of nipping your fingers. The powerful jaws are well concealed inside the casing away from pets, garden birds and little children.
Tried humane trap and lots of different bait which never worked. Rubbed this in compost garden clippings and covered with a nut mix in both end. Took a week of refills. Nice clean result. I don’t think it suffered
An easy to set trap that is very effective. Tried this around the hen coop where I didn’t want to use a poison baited trap in case the hens got to the bait. Inspected the first morning and voila one very deceased rodent (broken neck). Hope it stands up to continued use.
I have this item in my horses’ stable & it’s been ‘armed & ready’ for about 4/5 weeks without having been triggered but that’s because rats & mice aren’t as stupid as we’d like to think. Having said that, it made its’ first kill this week. Very large mouse/young rat. Instant, clean kill. Well worth the money. It’s ‘armed & ready’ for it’s next kill and I’m hoping it’ll get the young, cheeky and brave rat that was running around the barn this morning!
I read many reviews before buying, we’d already tried several ‘killer’ poisons but still our two rats were chasing birds out of the garden. I wore gloves to unwrap, I rinsed it with cold water, I set the bate trap and then rolled the trap over in the compost heap then I poured the dregs (liquid) out of my home compost bin over it..
First night, success, BUT. ratty 2 is now avoiding the trap! So tomorrow I’m going to try again – I have some cold smelly gravy saved especially for it. Watch this space!
Such a simple trap to use and within 2 days the first rat!!
I used peanut butter and placed as close to a corner as possible to give the rats extra confidence to head in.
