Reawaken a Classic Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.

Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.

o Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.

o Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before your knives break.

Reimagined Story Resident Evil 4dials up the original release’s key feelings of loneliness and the fear of enemies blinded by zealotry, while providing more nuanced depictions of the character motivations and relationships that defined the 2005 survival horror icon.

Sophisticated Visuals – Built on Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 4 delivers breathtakingly photorealistic visuals in 4K, complete with stunning lighting and pooling shadows to create an up-close, intense atmosphere.

I wanted to get into the survival horror genre in gaming as there are a lot of games that are really good but I’m too scared to play some. This was my first experience with a survival horror game and I loved it. It was scary and yet manageable for me to play and I loved the way they remade the story.

Original played it on PC but was morbidly curious about this port so gave it a look. I’m very pleased with the performance and visuals although it has some distracting texture load in.

Just finished my first run through and I loved it. Ive played the old game many many times and this has the same feel, and enough of the old stuff to be comfortable, with lots of new stuff to make it interesting and exciting. Love love it off to start my second run through now

Got this on my now 10 year old ps4 and it still looks great! Who needs next generation consoles?? The original was my favourite game ever and i have been waiting all this time for another Resident evil game to match it, ironically it turns out i have been waiting for the game’s own remake. This game is technically superior in every way, not least the graphics and a number of welcome tweeks to the gameplay, like being able to run and reload your weapon at the same time. The original RE4 wasnt particularly scary, especially when compared to more recent entries like RE7 and 8 but this remake certainly ramps that up with scarier, more life-like enemies, more gore and a higher difficulty curve. Enemies are tougher and more aggressive and ammo is less abundant forcing you to use bullets wisely and be more resourceful. It has a lot of re-play value. I have already completed it twice and will soon play it through again. The story sticks close to the original but is also somewhat different at the same time. I am however still un-decided as to which version i prefer the best. In any case this game is an absolute must buy whether you have played the original or not.

You don’t need my review. Everyone says it’s great. I just wanted to say, the original on PS2 was my favourite game ever. This (i’m only a little bit in) seems just as good. Looks better and little differences.

If you like the old RE4 you need to play this.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersHaving played through the Resident Evil 4 several times, and unlocked a good portion of the bits and bobs, right out the gate I’ll say, it is really good.

The graphics are great, sound is spot on, aesthetically it is on point, in terms of game play, it is more in line with RE2 and RE3 than the original RE4 IMO, although returning are the incapacitating shots that allow melee attacks, along with the additional knife parrying, and wear and tear on the knife, with additional knives being available as random drops, there are a wide variety of weapons that can be found, purchased in game from the merchant, and bonus weapons unlocked meeting certain criteria, all of which can be utilized to dispatch the wide variety of enemies and bosses.

There is a long list of in game challenges to achieve, ranging from killing enemies with different weapons to beating the game under certain conditions, doing so awards points which can be used to unlock some cosmetic items, character models and concept art, along with said bonus weapons, assuming the unlocking conditions have been met.

At this point Mercenaries Mode is available, which is fun, thus far there are four characters available, Leon, Luis, Krauser and Hunk, and three stages, The Village, The Castle and The Island, a little tip, complete all three stages with one S Rank will unlock the Handcannon Magnum for purchase, more easily rather than completing a Professional Difficulty run of the game without using any Bonus Weapons.

Some elements from the original have been cut out, such as the heavy QTE situations, which I was pleased with, the U3 boss is also technically missing, which could be reworked into DLC, possibly Ada Wong’s Separate Ways DLC, which is likely coming soon.

Overall I’d say it’s a good time for new and returning players

    “Hasta luego” LOL

He’s been playing the game. He likes it a lot. That’s all I can say, if your older teenager is happy with a computer game it’s worth the price for the peace and quiet… so long as he wears his headset.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHaving played resident evil right from the start in 1997, I can say this is looking the best so far in terms of play, brilliant graphics and sound. Only played a little so far on standard mode on ps4 and thoroughly enjoying it, savouring every moment. Only gripe is the on screen instructions could be a little larger, but that could be something to do with my age. Lol

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWaited years for another remake of this title- last release was 2005, it’s astounding to see it come back after so many years. The game itself- I can’t pick a single fault with this remake. Capcom knew what they were doing with this undisputed title and made it into the phenomenal masterpiece it is today. Keeping the old game mechanics with minor changes to controls but much bigger changes to the story itself- RE4 2023 is what a remake is and hold the definition of said word. Much better than RE3 and with the free PS5 upgrade- looks astonishing on my 4K screen

A little minor thing- there’s no option to turn on tank controls with the D pad as that’d be a neat touch, other than that- nothing else to complain abou
