The radios came well packaged on on time. They seem to be well built but I have a couple of little niggles. The worst niggle is the beep before transmission rather than an the end which had to be switched on via the software. As these are used for business it was easy to scramble the transmission and use the CTCSS & DSC function. Just a shame these don’t have the call function as my other radios but it’s not a deal breaker as they do what I need them to do. Battery life and range is yet to be confirmed.
I also like that they can be charger via almost any type of USB plug including power banks which may come in handy. The clarity is absolutely fine and I would have no problem recommending them.

What a good buy these are, well made, really solid, good sound easy to use, and very good value for what you pay. I can well recommend these. Good Christmas present these would make. They also get a good rating on Youtube.

      Nice radios.

I tested them against a pair of Motorola XTNi’s and TLKR T92’s.

These have better clarity and better range than both sets of Motorola’s. Not quite as much volume as the XTNi’s, but loads more than the TLKR’s.

I don’t think the build quality matches Motorola’s, however these are around a tenth of the price of XTNi’s, and less than half the cost of TLKR’s. I’d say the build quality is good, just not exceptional.

They are also much lighter than the Motorola, so that may be handy if travelling.

Unless you need very rugged, or waterproof radios, I’d give these a go. I will probably buy more.

These are very good radios that would get a 5 star rating except for a few small but important issues the knock off half a point: there is (as far as I can tell) no paging tone that can be sent to alert the receiving ‘station’. A second niggle is that the PTT (transmit button) is very sensitive and the radio will transmit with the slightest pressure.

A much smaller niggle is the voice announcement “Open the radio” annunciator when it’s switched on . . . I have no idea what that really means.

Downloading the programming software was a bit clunky: Firewalls, etc, try to block it; however it works easily.

Overall, good radios with a good range, clear audio and easy to use.

The generic Baofeng (Kenwood fit) handheld speaker mic is a must for regular users.

We live in part of what was once a farm and the ‘garden’ is the remnants of a large field; about an acre with a fairly deep wooded gill at the bottom out of site of the house. So felt it was probably a good idea when doing any work down there to have communication with the house, plus occasionally someone wants you on the phone and it can take the better half a good five minutes of more to find me. So as we have very poor mobile coverage in our part of the world, I though I’d have a look at some basic two way radios, with using more commercial ones at work. After browsing those on offer I felt I’d give these RT27’s a try as they came with charging bases and looked fairly compact and pretty sturdy, though it seemed odd you have to buy usb to three pin plug adaptors separately. Was also a little unsure if they would have the ‘range’ to communicate from the bottom of the gill to inside the house which has rather solid 2+ feet thick stone walls, though its not a great distance as the crow flies. However after giving them a good test once they arrived, I found them more than up to the job with a very clear signal. So for what we needed these are prefect. Mind I’ve not bothered with the wrist strap or belt clip as neither look as robust as the rest of the radio.

I’ve used it for couple of months now, during hikes, on caravan side, or even when kids just go to play outside. Very robust. I wish the programming cable was added together with the units but then again some people may not want to reprogram the units at all so I guess it’s a cost effective choice. Highly recommended.

Great for communication when I’m in the garden and the missus wants to know if I want a brew. Love the fact it has its own recharging caddy. Works from inside the house to over several hundred metres outside too.

Excellent radios and beat price wise many sets out there, customer service by @Karen is the best I have experienced by any seller on Amazon. I / we use these radios as marshals for air soft and having the encrypted option gives us the security and privacy we need. The radios have a good range and are clear and robust. Please remember when you get these they are programmed to legal UK frequencies but also have CTCCS / DCS codes set and you may need to set these which is easy to do as Retevis provide the FREE software online and in addition you require the programming cable, but you do not need to be an expert to change these and its easy to do. I will do a video on this later to explain. These codes are very useful and also access other features of the radios. They do work straight out of the box though. They are legal and license free for the UK so no need to worry about legislation / law. Great for air soft and other more extreme activity sports, highly recommenced, ex fores signal operator.

These are great for the price I only paid 21for them at the time of purchase I got these for work I work at a garden centre and it’s a bad day if you don’t have a radio on you as it will involve a lot of running around it makes it so I can be at the place ware the customer needs me I used to use a Motorola t80 extreme but for the price of them nothing to shout home about and does not complete the loudness of this rt27 the rt27 is just a good all rounder good loud speaker good bold quality I have dropped this a due time and it absolutely fine it may have a few scrapes but it’s bin in use for the last 4 months and is great it’s lasted 3 months longer than the more expensive Motorola

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe RT27 is a decent radio, this was exchanged for the RT21’s purely because the RT27 cannot send the alarm signal to all connected radios as it doesn’t have this function.
I did wish to exchange to the RT28’s but it’s unfortunately not available via Amazon Uk.

The customer support & service has been excellent & professional (by Karen @Retevis). The replacements arrived swiftly including a programming cable requested, I was allowed to keep the RT27’s originally ordered as a good will gesture.

The RT21 can be programmed via Chirp software (or retevis) & can be synchronised with the Baofeng BF-888 models or other radios which sit in the same frequency spectrum (400-480Mhz), you can link FRS 446Mhz radios by copying & adding the fixed frequency into the Chirp or Retevis RT21 software.
The Retevis RT21 is far superior to the Baofeng BF-888.

The RT21’s will be thoroughly tested on security deployment 1st June, then I will kno how the battery performs.

Excellent build quality, looking forward to testing.

Works as described and very useful when you visit any place and you have to split up. Worked for us when mobile phone signal was not available on holiday in UK. Worked even better when abroad. Battery life was appx 2 days on holiday in Turkey.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersThese RT27 two-way radios are pretty good, especially when you consider the low cost and relatively small size. They actually look good too. I’m old enough to remember two-way radios that were about the size of a house brick (just like the first mobile phones) but these are very light. There was a problem with translation of their instructions concerning VOX but after a few e-mails the problem was sorted out. Retevis have an excellent customer service which many British firms should look up to and take note of! Nothing seems to be a problem for them! I can say little else but the radios do what they are supposed to do. As for distance or range, any radio signal is only as good as the air it passes through and in a straight line (as the crow flies), without concrete or metal obstructions they’re very good. But of course in a built up area or within large buildings the reception is a little hit and miss depending on where you are and where the receiver is. Given it is only half a watt (0.5w) of transmission power – You can’t expect miracles.

      I recommend

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI got these, and after sliding the batteries on each radio noticed that I had two channels numbered 15 on them! However my frequency counter confirm that all 16 446 channels were present, albeit channels 9-16 incorrectly programmed.
I was disappointed to find that the antennas do not appear to be removable, unlike the excellent RT24 units, however if you go to all the trouble of downloading the software, you can bump-up the transmitter power to 2 watts, which makes them not legal to use.
The manufacturers are not yet aware that Ofcom have given permission to use a larger antenna with PMR radios, at half a watt power.
Later: Retevis very kindly sent me the high-powered, excellent RT1, after reading of my experiences here.
Thank you, Retevis. Great customer service.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersBought these to replace a pair of Alan radios bought about 10 years ago. The RT27 feels well built & robust with a very good belt clip. The PTT button doesn’t require too much pressure but the cover over the socket for the programme cable needs to be pushed in quite firmly. As supplied the radios work fine, the channel announcements are in English. The speech sound is reasonably clear although I haven’t yet been able to test the range.
These units are designed for regular use and do not have any call facility so the other end needs to keep an ear open. They are not waterproof so need to be protected from the weather.
All in all these are very effective and definitely out perform the old Alan sets which cost 3 times as much when they were bought.
