Nice fit on head quite light ,good open sound, ear pieces sit nice on ears provide a tight fit to outside sound soft cushion gives nice comfort for long term listen.
Single wire cable to left ear piece can get or become twisted after usage but is easily corrected.
Not sure about technical details but bought for my sons birthday for him to plug into his electric guitar and amp so that he can play late at night without waking me/neighbours…he says they are great esp since have a long cable. Hopefully will serve purpose for a while to come.
Have found these headphones really good to use with my electric piano, the sound quality is good and the lead is quite long so it does’nt pull when you move.
These are great for electric instruments, but the I would not use for HiFi
Compared to my old OneOdio headphones, which are now approaching the end of their usefulness, the Roland RH-5s are not really their equal, inasmuch the bass is lacking and they sound a bit trebly. Still pretty good though, yet I guess everyone’s ears are not necessarily quite the same.
I got them for an expensive digital piano so I can play it at anytime of the day without worrying about bothering my housemates/neighbours. The sound quality through these is so good that everytime when I start playing I can’t tell if they are actually connected so I have to take one off my ear to double check. They are super comfortable too
I have had these a while now and only use them with my Roland FP-10 digital piano. I have to say, over others I have used for this purpose they are far superior. They spacing of the keys from left to right is perfect and the bass of the lower notes is rich and deep. I would highly recommend these for the purpose they are intended, but can not comment on music of video usage.
My main use is for a digital piano. The sound is great with minimal leaking. Feels pretty comfortable. The frame does feel a little inexpensive however for the price its absolutely fine. So worth the money.
I bought these to wear while playing bass. I wanted something comfortable with a long cable. These fit the bill. The sound is perfectly adequate. I sometimes use them with my iphone to help pick up the notes/chords, or just listen to my music.
I’m writing this as a previous owner of many different headphones in the past, including brands like BeyerDynamic, AKG, V-Moda, Sennheiser, Sony, and smaller brands like OneOdio, Tribit, and others I can’t even remember. Prices of the above have ranged from as low as 20 to as much as 200, so I think I have a fair grasp of how a decent pair of consumer headphones should sound and feel.
Although these are aimed mostly at Roland instrument users, I bought these for music and TV/Film use.
Sound quality is excellent for the price, certainly better than headphones double the price, or even more.
Bass is nice and tight, not boomy and doesn’t interfere with the higher frequencies.
Mids and highs are nice and clear, not tinny at all and not drowned out by the bass (as you would expect from neutral headphones).
Listening to music is a pleasure, from sub bass all the way up to the top frequencies everything is clear, vocals are great which is where some headphones fall flat, especially those that are tuned for more bass.
Listening to TV and films is just as goo., I just returned a pair of Sennheiser HD 599’s as listening to speech was horrible with them, I found myself having to rely on subtitles in some instances as I couldn’t hear what people were saying properly.
No such problem with the Roland RH-5’s. Speech is crystal clear, while things like explosions still gave a nice boom. I’d rate the sound quality of the Rolands better all round than the 100 HD 599’s, which was a nice surprise.
As ‘neutral’ headphones go, these sound very good.
Soundstage is decent for a cheap pair of closed back headphones too, though not quite up there with a nice pair of open back headphones (but again, these were better than the Sennheiser HD 599’s in that respect too).
Another nice thing I found was if you tap the cable the sound doesn’t travel up the cable, resulting in it felling like you’re tapping on the headphones themselves. That’s a problem I have found with many budget mostly plastic headphones.
I am glad to say these don’t suffer with problem.
They are also very light, which is usually good for long sessions wearing them…
BUT, here’s the downside –
So, being so light you would expect extented use to be fine, however they are let down when it comes to comfort.
Firstly, they are advertised as ‘over-ear’ headphones, however they are not. They are too small to be over ear, and too big to be on ear (I have normal sized ears, maybe even slightly smaller than average).
They sit awkwardly on my ears due to the strange size of the ear pads so just don’t feel right.
This also means there isn’t a good seal between the headphones and my head.
There are a few reviews saying they fit around the ears fine, I can only assume most of these people have exceptionally small ears!
Secondly, the thin faux leather material on the ear pads is irritating, not comfortable at all (possibly because the way it is creased/pleated. This is not helped by the rather thin foam padding.
I have ordered a pair of replacement ear pads that have more foam and nicer material, hopefully this will resolve some of the comfort issues and create a better seal between the headphones and my head.
Build quality is what you would expect for pair of cheap but good sounding headphones. Most of the cost of these has gone into sound quality. They are plasticky, but time will tell if they break easily (plenty of reviews have said they break easily, but I don’t know how well they have been treated).
Really this should have been a 3 star review because of the strange size ear pads, uncomfortable material on them, and the cheap plasticky feel, but the fact they sound so good convinced me to give them 4 stars.
This is the second of these I’ve bought (because I needed a second pair, not because of a fault with the first) and I think they are the best quality sound on a wired headphone I’ve found. The sound is clear and doesn’t distort – ideal for monitoring audio or listening to music. Well built.
When I first built my own home studio I felt a bit lost looking for equipment to mix music so I took the plunge and ordered these. To the mixing pro with years of experience they are probably not great but to me I think they are excellent. The difference between the stereo sound in these compared to my monitors is brilliant and gives me a completely different field of sound to really hone my mixing skills. These headphones give a different sound to the monitors and my cheaper Sony in ear buds so mixing has become so educational when finding the right tones etc.I’ve literally just finished mixing an entire album through them and the response to my mixes have been brilliant. Will defo’s be purchasing them again if I ever need another set to record other band members etc.
I’ve been using these for a couple weeks now and am very pleased with this purchase:
– Comfort: Very comfortable. The ear pads are large so easily fit comfortably around the ear and not on it.
– Weight: They are pretty lightweight. They are a teeny tiny bit heavier than my old Senheisser HD201s and than my JVC HARX500 – but only a tiny bit.
– Quality of build: Upon initial impressions, the build quality looks like high quality. The headband is cushioned all around and the overall it has a feel of good quality unlike some headphones which feel a little cheap and plasticy – these feel a little more sturdy. I am aware that the headphone pads surface are made of the exact same cover material that my old Senheisser HD201s is made of, and from my experience this kind of material starts to crack and crumble after about 2-3 years of use. Hopefully these will hold up better – we’ll see!
– The wire: The wire comes out of one headphone (the left one) and not the other (unlike the Senheisser HD201s where a wire comes out of both sides). The wire is fairly thick compared to the other headphones I own, which makes the wire a tiny bit heavier too if you have it resting on your body. But on the other hand, a thicker wire may just be a sign of better quality. My Senheisser HD201’s thin wire ended up splitting after 2 years of use – maybe these will hold up better? We’ll see!
– Sound quality: I’m very happy with the sound quality. Each headphone has a slightly different balance of sound to it, and it’s hard for me to tell you which is “better” but these sound good to me! I use them for watching videos, movies, listening to music, podcasts and more – and they work really well for all my needs.
– Overall: Very pleased with these so far. My number 1 factor that I care about is comfort and these are definitely comfortable to wear for long durations, which is perfect for me. Fingers crossed they’ll last a good long while!
For the price I paid for these headphones, I couldn’t want any more than what I got.
The sound quality is good – fantastic really for the cost. They’re relatively comfortable but I haven’t tested that for anything over 3 hours.
I’m very happy with these headphones, I can play guitar without disturbing my family and I can mess with the tones and sounds to find what sounds right for me. I’m sure my neighbour is happy with my purchase too.
Only had these for a few days now, but so far cannot fault them – excellent. Fit comfortably over the ears with the gimball action and adjustable headband – the first headphones I’ve ever had that I can wear for extended periods of time without strain or sweaty ears! As for sound, the reproduction is faultless (caveat: my aged ears may miss some nuances :’), sitting playing my digital piano I can’t hear any difference with or without the phones. As well as being a sensible length (3m), the cable is thicker than most of my previous phones, so less likely to tangle. For the price (I paid 22) they are a bargain!
These are neither hi-fi headphones nor studio monitoring headphones, and so are not really the best choice for listening to recorded music, or for mixing. They are, however, an excellent pair of headphones for their intended purpose, as partners for electronic instruments. I bought these for use with a cheap old Yamaha keyboard, and I am well satisfied with the results from plugging directly into the keyboard’s headphone out socket. I doubt whether there are any better phones for this purpose at this price (25 at the time of purchase).
Bought these for use with a Roland electronic drum kit. I’d tried lots of different headphones but struggled to get some with a snug enough fit round the ears to make sure I could hear the drums properly and with a lead long enough not to interfere with my drum sticks! They were at a reduced price and the reviews suggested they might not be brilliant quality but having been impressed with the kit, I was willing to take a chance on headphones from the same company. They are very clearly not professional quality, but as I’m not a professional I don’t mind that. The fit round the ears is good, and the sound quality is great for me. Very happy with them all round, particularly at a reduced price!
They arrived in less than a day with the only postal option available…FREE! Amazed, that’s all I can say.
Opened the box, very well made headphones. They are a slick, simple design. They do feel a bit cheap in terms of the plastic; I might have to be very careful with them. I’m generally very pedantic about headphones cables and making sure they are ‘placed’ on the table, never thrown, etc. So I’m sure they will be fine.
The fit is quite snug, although I have fairly small ears.
The cable is thick and chunky and made of a shiny rubber, so it shouldn’t get tacky or stick to things.
The sound; this is my only complaint. I’ve been using in ears for a while and a headset at work (Plantronics, one of the those USB headsets) and this has a VERY different sound. I find this a problem with big headphones in general though. The sound is round, and a bit distant. While I will admit, my ears might be trained to a very ‘present’ sound, the change is drastic and it changes the mix quite a bit. The stereo separation is massive, this might be what I’m hearing too. But that said, I will use them for a while, and hopefully retrain my ear.
There is a lots of new low to low-mids that I’m hearing, product of a bigger driver. The high-end is very mellow, cymbals now sizzling as opposed to melting my ear drums! Mid range sits well in the mix.
As they are squeezing down on my head and ‘breaking in’ I can hear the outside sounds disappearing. Might take a while to properly sit on my head.
I bought these for mixing at home, I’m a rapper. Considering the change to the mix it might take a while but I think they will work out.
So far, only 15 minutes in, I’d give them a thumbs up.
Nice fit on head quite light ,good open sound, ear pieces sit nice on ears provide a tight fit to outside sound soft cushion gives nice comfort for long term listen.
Single wire cable to left ear piece can get or become twisted after usage but is easily corrected.
