After putting up with the Russian roulette of a brown water spitting iron for months I went for a new one.
I am delighted, lovely steam, quite a heavy weight iron but it irons beautifully. Very pleased so far.
Wish I’d listened to the reviews explaining why you can’t wind the cable around the bottom of the iron and keep it there. The only way I can do it, is to wind the cable, hold onto the cable and sit the iron down on a flat service and the cable mostly stays wrapped around the iron.
Minor grumble as the iron itself is fine – no issues with that.
A bit lighter than my 5yo. Morphy Richards (broken). Much faster, much more steam and makes light of the ironing (or so I’m told).
The mains lead is a little shorter but no problem and it gobbles up the water tank which is also smaller.
Small price to pay for such a fantastic steam iron.
Really has made a big difference in speed and short work of any creases.
Delighted? to recieve this perfect Birthday present 🙁 SWMBO.
Steam button on top of handle a good position if extra steam is needed, glides easily across clothes. Good long cable. Slightly heavier than mmy. Last iron, windong the cable at the end of the iron is a bit awkward. But I am very happy with it overall
I have previously had steam generators rather than basic iron but although have only used for a month find it does steam ironing just as well for much less money. However if you do a lot of ironing you will need to keep topping up the water tank.7
It irons very well but the controls under the handle are not the easiest to use and difficult to read. The handle could be better designed (a bit uncomfortable). The cleaning operation is not physically easy.
This is quite a heavy weight iron so not for those who have problems with their hands. On saying that it irons out creases lovely. It glides across the fabric with ease and has quite a good water chamber meaning I don’t have to refill it halfway through like others. The steam is really good on it.
The only niggle is that the water opening open to the left which is ok for left handed people. It is a good nice looking iron which will hopefully last a few years.
Well , a bit heavier than thought but actually really good . Last one I had just went black on base even tho wasn’t that old. Tefal (8months )
So bought this and so far so good.. if it changes will change review. Wouldn’t recommend for people with arthritis .. or can’t hold properly .. only because of weigh
Not had this iron for too long, but the early signs are mostly positive and it certainly heats up much faster than our previous iron. My main gripe is that it is nigh on impossible to wrap the cord around the iron and get it to stay in place. I did wonder whether I’m missing a trick, but there’s nothing in the instruction booklet and looking through the customer reviews, I see this is a common gripe.
I can only tell you what she said, “Much better than the old one that broke” (and it was double the price of this).
We did research the best irons and this came out of a few of the lists so that is what we bought, it looks as if the search worked out, so long as you keep away from the ones that get paid to put the brand at the top of the list your fine.
This is a heavy iron, which I like, as with a lighter iron I feel I’m constantly pushing down on it to get the creases out, this, I’m just pushing around, no downward pressure needed. Irons well, love the constant steam , although iron does it’s job so well, don’t need the steam very often. Recommend if you, like me, like a heavy iron.
Does its job well enough. I like the button notches around the pointy end. It’s a bit heavier than my last one, I find this a bit more tiring on the wrist. No cord storage – they say specifically to not wrap around the heel. It can be done once the iron has cooled, but it really loses out to my old Tefal iron here. Tefal had a better (lower) cord exit too, away from the wrist. But this was cheaper. Cord length is good.
Irons much more effectively than the Russell Hobbs supreme steam. The only thing not to like is there is no hook to hold the chord together when wound up like my previous Tefal iron.
I dropped my sturdy steam generator iron and it stopped working so needed a new one quickly. Checked the ‘best iron’ reviews online and this one came up as very good and by chance was also at a really good price on Amazon. Even though it wasnt a generator iron I ordered it immediately as it seemed that this one would do the same job.
When it arrived I plugged it in straight away -and yes it does do the same job as the old generator iron did. With no heavy tank to lug about this is a great bonus on top of being a great price .
It heats up quickly and holds a lot of water, so if you’ve got a pile of ironing you’ll get through it without constantly topping it up. It is quite heavy, but I put it down to the fact that it’s a high wattage. On the plus side, it glides so easily that you don’t need to put much pressure on the iron to get a good result and it has a really long cord.
The box was battered and ripped, the iron itself did not appear damaged, but on looking closer there was a large scratch on the iron plate.
Not sure if it had been returned by a previous customer due to the box and scratch on the iron.
However I turned it on and all worked well, the steam option is brilliant and the settings all work great and made ironing my clothes so much easier and quicker.
The scratch has not effected the use of the iron so will keep – plus the amount I paid for the iron was a bargain!.
Overall the iron is brilliant and would highly recommend, but disappointed with the state of the packaging and box, also the large scratch.
This iron has good steam power and as I try to avoid tumble drying and dry my washing outside as much as possible it makes light work of creases.
It has a good long lead and is fairly heavy. I like a heavy iron it seems to do the job better but for some this might not be so good. My main , slight, criticism is that I find the sole plate not as smooth as other irons I have used and the button indentation on the sole plate not that useful but it might be I have to get used to it. My last iron had a ridge all around the sole plate which allowed you to get around the buttons which needed less accuracy.
I do a lot of ironing and my irons rarely last much over two years so although I always buy quality I have learned not to go for the really expensive makes unless on offer .
Very good iron but perhaps not the best I have had – be interesting to see how it lasts as it comes with a 2 yr guarantee.
This is a brilliant iron, I paid 70 pound for my first one about 3/4 years ago, and its still going. Seen it on offer and purchased another.
Deffo a good buy
Got this iron to replace one from another brand that broke within six months and I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. It’s the first iron in a while we’ve had that doesn’t drip water from the plate or water input hole. The steam output is excellent and the little button groove on the plate is a really nice touch when ironing shirts.
The Russell Hobbs Powersteam Ultra 3100W Vertical Steam Iron 20630 in Black and Grey has certainly made my ironing routine much more manageable. Here’s why I rate it 4 out of 5:
Effective, but Not Perfect: This iron is undeniably effective. It’s sizeable and easy to use, making ironing more efficient. However, there were a few minor quirks that kept me from awarding it a perfect score.
Solid Performance: When it comes to performance, this iron truly shines. It heats up rapidly, and its steam function handles wrinkles effortlessly. My clothes look crisp and well-pressed, which is what I expect from a high-quality iron.
Competitive, Yet Not the Best: While this iron is undoubtedly good, I’ve come across a few models that offer slightly better features or convenience. It doesn’t quite earn the title of “the best iron I’ve ever had,” but it’s certainly up there.
Robust Build: The iron’s weight and sturdiness are both positives and negatives. It does provide excellent stability during use, but it can be tiring during extended ironing sessions. Nevertheless, the solid build ensures durability, which is a major plus.
Effective Heat Control: The heat control feature is reliable and gives me the flexibility to iron a variety of fabrics safely. It’s a feature I appreciate, knowing that my garments won’t be damaged due to excessive heat.
In conclusion, the Russell Hobbs Powersteam Ultra 3100W Vertical Steam Iron 20630 in Black and Grey is a commendable iron that has significantly improved my ironing experience. While it has a few drawbacks and doesn’t claim the top spot in my book, it’s a strong contender. If you’re looking for an efficient and reliable iron, this one is definitely worth considering, even if it falls just short of perfection. It’s a solid 4 out of 5.
Apart from this iron being fairly heavy I can find no other fault with it. Does the job perfectly in half the time especially linen which makes it fantastic value for me.
I melted print into my old iron – oops! So when I seen this in a prime deal, I thought why not!
It was definitely a good buy.
It’s a bit heavier than my last one however I have arthritis in my hands so it’s possible it’s just me – and I can still use it, I just take breaks!
Great iron, irons really well and its quite weighty which could be a problem for some people but this is good as it irons well. Steam output isn’t as much as my last iron but its enough as it has a burst of steam function. Only down side is the water tank capacity isn’t big enough and it needs constant filling up.
This iron is probably the best iron ever purchased
Great weight to it makes ironing so simple steam power is superior to any iron I’ve used.
Before you look for a new iron check this out it’s fabulous,if you get one of these you will never buy a cheap one again.
A really stylish powerful iron, but just one problem: My wife has arthritis and the iron is too heavy for her to lift. I did try to find the weight of if before ordering but no luck. Sadly, it will have to go back. But for people without hand/wrist problems I would recommend it without hesitation.
Bought to replace a larger steam iron with much bigger base. This iron works just as well with good steam production. Not too heavy but heavy enough to help push out creases. I also like the indents at the top of either side of the irons to help iron around buttons on shirts.
The Russell Hobbs Powersteam Ultra 3100W Vertical Steam Iron has truly elevated my ironing experience. This iron’s impressive range of settings makes it a versatile companion for tackling various fabrics, and its user-friendly design ensures ease of use, storage, and maintenance.
I’ve found the range of settings to be particularly helpful when navigating different fabrics and garment types. Whether it’s delicate fabrics or tougher wrinkles, the Powersteam Ultra handles each with precision. The iron’s sleek design also makes it a breeze to store when not in use.
Maintenance is a breeze too. The iron’s build quality and thoughtful design make cleaning and care straightforward, allowing me to focus more on the task at hand—keeping my clothes looking crisp and well-presented.
In summary, the Russell Hobbs Powersteam Ultra 3100W Iron offers both performance and convenience. Its variety of settings, ease of use, and simple maintenance make it a valuable addition to any household, ensuring smooth, wrinkle-free results every time.
So, I’ve had this iron for a few weeks now and have given it a good workout.
Pro:
Love the length of the cord – a lot longer than my previous iron, 3m – perfect.
It’s black and the water chamber colour is dark so is a little hard to see the water, but it’s not too bad considering.
It takes a little while to get to temp and the light tends to flit on and off, but overall it’s fine.
I’ve used it on steam and in the ‘dry’ mode and it’s good both ways, generally I prefer steam.
Glides through the ironing
Con:
A tad on the heavy side, so maybe not the best for those who have weak arms/wrists.
Overall I am very pleased with this iron, even more so in the Prime special sale 🙂

I’m writing this review after using the iron a few times.. I find it’s best to capture first impressions with items like this as I tend to get used to odd quirks and start to work around them
What works well
# IRONING CAPABILITY – Seems very good – hot temp works well, glides well, notch for use around buttons is useful – initial finish on clothes is good.
# WEIGHT – The iron is towards the heavy end of what’s available – I like this! – It sounds as if the weight might require more effort to use, but I actually find having to apply more downward pressure using a light iron harder work than sliding a heavier one from side to side.
# SPEED TO HEAT – the 3100W makes a difference – it’s right up to top temp in a matter of seconds – this works well for me as the thing I iron most of are cotton shirts .. I actually iron very little on a low setting.
# STEAM – This feature works well – but it’s not a big one for me. As mentioned on the box when it arrives the iron will have a little water residue in it where the steam / spray function has been tested. I actually prefer to use a separate water spray bottle as in the past I’ve found water reservoirs eventually get a bit grubby and will occasionally leave a spot on a shirt (always at the end when you’ve ironed the whole thing!) I prefer to keep the iron clean and dry and apply water as I go using a simple garden spray bottle.
What could be better
# HANDLE – While this is ok I did find the steam buttons at the front of the handle got in the way a little – not to the point where it was a real problem, but it just made the handle a little less comfortable than it could have been
# COILING CABLE – This is a little annoying – there is nowhere to coil the cable around the iron after use – having said that I often leave mine out in a spare room.. but not great if you need the space and want to keep it out the way – also think irons left out are extremely dangerous re small kids or pets .. so ability to coil the cable would be useful.
OVERALL
I like it so far – it feels substantial heats up quickly and irons well.
