I recently purchase this monitor directly from Samsung, it’s replacing an old Asus one that I have own for many years. It is a very good monitor in many respects, but has one very annoying issue. The problems is waking up a PC, connected to the monitor with a Displayport cable, which seem to not work normally, leaving you with a blank screen. Updating the G7, does not fix this problem, to get around it you need to reboot the graphics card, by pressing SHIFT+Ctrl+WINDOWS KEY+B together. This seems to send a correct signal, that the G7 can recognized! I hope this will help other having the same issues, with the G7.
This is a great monitor. The price point was a little high, but overall it’s worth it. Would love to see this setup in my office as a triple setup for sim racing, but right now it’s just used as my daily in my office. It’s a shame you can’t have the back LED off but the front LEDs on, but that’s superficial. The auto switching from DP to HDMI doesn’t always work as expected, and sometimes I find myself having to power cycle the monitor.
My only gripe is the panel to close off the ports at the back. The angle of the cables has to go down and up to go through the hole in the removable panel, which is difficult with thicker braided cables. Really it’s something you want to have to do once if cable management is important to you, as it feels like a lot of fiddling around is likely to break a socket at some point.
This monitor came from a recommendation from a you tuber called Hardware Unboxed. It has full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48 GBPS that the PS5 has to offer. Also additional VRR ALLM support. Well worth the sale price I paid at the time 495. It was cheaper than replacing my 65 inch TV that I was using the PS5 on. Do research and don’t just fall for what it says on the box. HDR is the minimum spec of 400 however it does the trick not the best HDR compared to my TV but the HDMI 2.1 at 120hz on some games like Hogwarts Legacy work perfect. You can also look at information whilst in game under support setting to see what resolution and FPS you are using.
I bought this monitor during the prime deals as I needed a monitor for my ps5. It’s a good monitor, bright and colourful, but at the start I did have problems with the screen flickering the corners which annoyed me. I then went through the monitor settings and ps5 settings and got it sorted so I would recommend doing the same if it happens. Also it has the lights at the back which to be honest aren’t life changing it looks okay but personally I don’t use it because you can’t really notice it. Overall it is a really nice monitor goes well with the ps5 and a great screen size for a desk.
This monitor supports HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, but has a software toggle in the on-screen menu for HDMI 1.4;2.0;2.1, and DP 1.1;1.2;1.4, which can be set for each input port (2x HDMI 1x DP)
A signal of 3480×2160 10bpp @ 144hz is displayed without issue over display port (using DP 1.4) and 3480×2160 10bpp @120hz over HDMI 2.1 (from a PS5 and XboxSeriesX).
I encountered issues with some sources when HDMI was set to 2.1, and had to manually set it to 2.0.
The software menu has a “Auto-source switch” that is meant to switch between different inputs, but this does not function properly for me, with similar stories found online in reddit/forums, even with the latest firmware applied.
There have been no indications that Samsung will fix this and apparently affects some of their other models, so if this is a dealbreaker you may be better served avoiding this monitor.
A “Local Dimming” feature advertised is exceptionally poor as the device only has 5 dimmable zones as large vertical stripes, leading to very distracting light bloom from half of the screen when a mostly-black scene is shown.
With local dimming turned off and the correct HDMI/DP version set, if auto-source switching is not a problem for you then this monitor is otherwise very good value for money and has great picture quality with some interesting RGB backlighting effects that change colour and brightness according to the brightest pixel currently being displayed (provided “Core lighting” is enabled in the software menu).
RGB can be fully disabled.
Comes with an adapter that allows it to be used with VESA 100×100 or 75×75 mounting systems, and I found that it works well on a 100×100 mounting aim, and is light enough to work well with height-adjustable arms
This monitor is what I needed for my setup. Great picture quality and smoothnes changed a lot. I am very satisfied
Easy to use and put together, image quality and latency are grea
Love this monitor perfect picture for myself after a bit of tweaking.
Great quality. Perfect for gaming and Xbox Series X. 4K, VRR, 120 – all work. Didn’t liked only HDR10 so I disabled it. The included stand rotates all needed directions and you can pivot if needed.
IPS – great for bright rooms as it eliminates reflections quite well with nice viewing angles and vibrant colors. Blacks are not as deep as with a VA or an OLED panel, but that’s to be expected and can be noticed only at night.
Also, attached to a MacBook Air M1 as external display. Works great with different scaling options. Text and overall image details are close to the native Retina display on the MacBook. The colors need a bit adjustment from the monitors setting. Works at 4k/144hz which is higher than the 60hz on the retina so macOS is very smooth and responsive in terms of animations. Using a DisplayPort-to-USB C cable for it.
I currently have a Samsung U28E590D (4k, was 300 monitor that I’ve had 7 years) which I compared visually with this monitor. The visual improvement is minimal which surprised me. I’ve mainly put it down to hardware since I don’t achieve a high enough frame rate on AAA games with my rtx 3070 to take advantage of the high refresh rate of this monitor. The Samsung monitors seem to default to very red-heavy colour settings and it took a LOT of fiddling to get the colour right. I only noticed a substantial visual improvement on 1 game I tested (resident evil 7), which did not impress me much, but maybe my current monitor is just very good. All in all it’s a good 4k monitor which I would reccommend for those that have the hardware to take advantage of the 144hz refresh rate. Did not keep this myself as it came with 4 faulty pixels and amazon refused to fix, only allowing a refund despite the 2 year warranty.
5/5 had a bit of a problem at the start but got everything sorted within 30mins with the seller can’t fault them one bit! New bit sent. got it next day so would recommend! 🙂
Bought this for my son for his xbox series x and pc. I couldn’t pass this for the price plus 4k and 144mhz top class monitor. No issues, looks great and the led effect at the rear and front are a nice touch. Very easy to setup.
I got this monitor at 448 and I feel at that price or lower it’s a great deal. A similar option would the gigabyte M28u but personally this worked out slightly cheaper and they use the same panel with different manufacturer tuning.
Works great for my ps5 and let me be clear to get the 4k120fps you don’t need to switch it to AV mode. It stays in 60fps mode until you start an actual start and play a game that supports 120fps (not idle in the menu). Colours are great, coming from a TN I was blown away by IPS.
The downsides I’d say with the poor local dimming which I feel is very noticeable especially because the black equalizer works so well. Apart from that I personally have had no quality issues and at the price its one of the most competitive options.
I bought this monitor for gaming and for productivity. I am not disappointed. For productivity it is brilliant. For gaming it is good as well.
It is a real improvement over the previous 4k 60Hz screen I had before.
The 4k resolution and low input lag makes it much more comfortable to use. For gaming I think it is a very good screen as well. It is the right screen if you have a PS5 as it has HDMI 2.1 support at full speed.
HDR can be enabled in windows, but it is garbage compared to an OLED TV or a mini led monitor. It’s not the same price so I don’t mind.
Contacted Amazon, was referred to Samsung
Samsung refer me to a local repair store, I receive an e-mail from the repair technicians a week after sending the panel off. The technicians say “We can’t repair the panel as it is not authorised by Samsung.” What? Samsung referred me to them after knowing the problem. The communication lines are obviously dire and nobody has a clue what’s going on.
I immediately called Samsung to clarify things – as this call was on-going I received an e-mail saying the panel was being sent back to me. I instantly e-mailed to ask if they could hold the monitor for a day or two whilst I sort the problem with Samsung. Here, I’m constantly passed around Samsung’s management with nobody able to help me, the senior technicians are useless and never available. The repair company sends a message saying “We can’t stop the return.”
So now that the monitor has been returned to me, I finally get in contact with Samsung’s senior technician, who says the only thing they can do is arrange a second collection date for me to re-send the unit to the repair company. When I ask about a replacement, Samsung says that they can’t replace the monitor, only repair it.
Absolutely infuriating the fact that I’ve had the monitor for a month, it develops a fault, and then it takes a month to get the problem fixed.
This is a great monitor providing you have the power to run it. I would recommend a RTX 3070+ as a minimum for triple-A PC titles at 4K.
It has an above average contrast ratio for an IPS panel, around 1100-1200:1; most other IPS monitors are around 900-1100:1. The refresh range has great motion handling all round and should be left on the Adaptive Sync mode. This monitor uses the exact same panel as the Gigabyte M28U, but has higher bandwidth HDMI ports. For PS5 this is important as it needs the higher bandwidth for proper 120hz support.
Using DisplayPort 1.4a you can max this monitor out at 144hz and 10-bit colour. I would however recommend using a HDMI 2.1 certified cable instead, as you can get 12-bit colour at 144hz. G-Sync works great with my card. If you plan on using the Integer-scaling feature from nVidia or AMD be aware that his monitor is not compatible with it and the option will not appear. There is almost no backlight bleed and very little IPS glow.
The biggest downside for me has to be the build quality. The monitor is mostly made of seemingly flimsy plastic. I put a webcam on the top of the screen and the extra weight squeezed the top edge of the panel and caused a visible backlight glow area around it. Once removed it is fine, but something to bear in mind if you plan on using this as your work monitor as well as a gaming one. The plastic around all the edges of the monitor appears to flex a bit when lifting the monitor and the backlight seeps through if squeezed. It also has an external power brick which is surprising given the size of the monitor.
Furthermore using a DisplayPort cable gave me occasional flickering and sometimes it would go black for a second (only happened a couple of times). This was not a problem with an HDMI 2.1 cable and could have been related to the use of display stream compression (dsc), since DisplayPort 1.4 has less bandwidth.
Despite saying HDR on the box, this panel is edge-lit with 8 zones and is not suitable for HDR use. For proper HDR use it also needs to be significantly brighter. I would recommend deactivating it completely. If you are looking for an HDR experience, you would be far better suited to a mini-LED or OLED panel.
The lighting on the back of the panel is mostly a gimmick, and due to having the monitor on an arm, was dimmed significantly. The colours also don’t quite matchup to the respective OSD setting; white looks blue etc. If used in a dark room, a static colour can be used for a decent backdrop.
Overall a great monitor for gaming, with some concerns to build quality and pointless HDR certification. If you are looking for a 4K gaming monitor for use with a PS5, Xbox Series X etc, or PC, it can’t be beat at the price (485 in June 2022).
I actually bought this with a view to use integer scaling and run games at 144hz 1080p while I waited to upgrade GPU. However, this monitor does not support integer scaling, nor Nvidia DSR. You should only buy this monitor if you are ready to run it in 4k native or you only play games supporting DLSS / FSR.
This was purchased as an upgrade from the Samsung Odyssey G7 LC27G75TQSRXXU, 1440 to 4K. What a cracking all round monitor, I play first person shooters and simulator games and running them at 4K driven by my Alienware X17 R2 is just a joy. The flat screen makes normal computing tasks very much better too and the 28″ screen for watching 4K content is so much better. Gamers do not be put off by the 144-refresh rate, I play all games at 4k, COD Vanguard 75 to 90 fps, ETS and ATV 50 to 78 fps I’m running mods on these two. Excellent value for money when comparing it with other 4K monitors.
Seeing some video reviews put me off this but if you are coming from a bog standard 1080p screen you will be very happy with this monitor. Picture is smooth and no ghosting to my eyes.
Really is a cracking gaming monitor colours are really clear and picture is smooth, I’ve never had an expensive monitor before now and took the plunge to get this for the series X and it’s great, shame you don’t get speakers built in but I’ve got some little amazon basic speakers that really make it look the part. I’ve even figured out how to put the monitor lights on haha.
28 inch screen to ensure great pixel density on a 4k panel. It’s more than enough for most people, with great features and mode options. Runs perfect with freesync enabled and my fps control at 143 to ensure no stuttering etc.
Truly stunning example to all gaming monitors. This is the best price for your pound.
Upgrading from a 4k 60hz screen and the difference is massive. I use the screen for console gaming, PS5 & Xbox Series X and for work which is creating 3D models in Revit and other CAD software packages. As a gaming monitor purely for consoles it is superb as I can have both consoles connected at once thanks to there being 2 HDMI 2.1 connections. After a bit of tweaking with the settings, as other reviewers have mentioned, I get a sharp, clear picture and blacks that actually look black. Everything looks a little bit better. And having the option to play in 120fps if the game allows it is a great addition. Work wise it’s very nice too. All my software looks bright and clear. I cannot really comment on PC gaming as I do not use my PC for gaming. Really happy with the monitor and it’s perfect for the next gen consoles.
he best monitor at 4k 144hz 1ms right now..buy it,coming from an experienced eye for detail..motion is smooth as silk..playing doom eternal and I just wet my pants,Jesus.. even blacks which are notorious on ips screens seem erm…..Black.. you have to calibrate a while though..the settings between monitor, graphics card and windows are customisable but tbh straight out the box with correct cables and the right source feed this engine drives picture motion how it should be done..reminds me fondly of the old Panasonic top of the range heavy duty plasma screens from way back when..plasma technology had its faults but by Christ you could have beautifully driven motion alike to this monitor..albeit a lot sharper…just seems effortless and seamless..I must stress though this tv is finicky with cables.kabeldirekt 1.4 dp hbr3 8k 60z..the club 3d 1.4dp cable is also a cable worthy if you running from PC..the most understated TV on earth just made a statement..if you want a dream 4k 144hz 1ms led monitor…gamble and go live that dream…picture perfect in every way…and 4k 120hz through ps5 xbox is just amazing..your playing 1440 smooth gaming styles on 4k…no jokes..own one…
After a few tweaks, this monitor has an amazing pic. Would recommend changing black level to normal and auto dimming to on. I chose the adaptive sync option when connecting my pc to get a very vibrant picture. Contrast levels are also good, best I have seen for an ips display.
