These are small and easily carried round the house to plug in to my laptop regularly. Small enough to be put in a pocket. Very convenient to use and reliable.
This is the best external hard drive I’ve ever used. Incredible read and write speeds, good case protection and amazingly lightweight. A 4TB SSD which runs from USB C power has been a game-changer for me. Definitely worth it and 200 on Black Friday made it even better.
Bought to provide data and fast recording storage for a digital Live Sound mixer. So it didn’t need huge capacity but must be reliable. Very small and light, fits neatly in a corner of the case with some velcro and works flawlessly.
Obviously a brand name product, so you would expect something that works well.
This does.
Used as an external backup for an Apple computer: The first time it was plugged in “the system” saw it, the automatic on-screen instructions were crystal clear and easy to follow, and both the disk and computer “knew” this was to be used for backups.
Now it is on my desk, taking up no space, always plugged in, automatically taking backups.
The built in starting option to require a password to use the disk again made life so easy setting this up.
If I do need another of these, I will definitely be buying this again.
I’m a video editor by trade so I rely on my drives, I have 4 of the T7’s and (touch wood) they’ve been amazing. I usually edit straight off the drive and they’re fast enough to keep up with me, which is impressive seeing as I’m often editing 4K video clips at about 4 or 5GB in size each. They’re absolutely tiny so don’t take up much desk space. A friend of mine does data recovery for a living and says Samsung are the brand he sees the least (ie they fail less than other brands). Great drives and worth the money – picked mine up in a Black Friday offer so keep an eye on deals. Pick up a case if you plan on leaving the house with them, the size means they’re not exactly rugged.
Very small and portable, plenty of storage, and my machine can read and write to it very rapidly with no frustrating delays. I can watch video files straight from this hard drive without any lagging. Exactly what I wanted. I might buy two.
I used this to breath life into an older iMac. I installed the Mac OS on this drive, and it’s transformed the Mac from an almost unusable machine to something that is a pleasure to use.
The fact that it came with both USB-A and USB-C was superb too.
I have purchased multiple Shield T7 drives and they’ve been rock solid. Used primarily as part of my mobile recording rig, so getting moved around and hostels about constantly and never had any issues. Recommended.
Great little external drive, I wanted some more storage for a Mac mini and this is compact, nicely made and really quite quick. I had speed issues using and older drive caddy with a sata ssd in it and swapping to this elimated all those problems
I bought this as a backup device for my Mac it works really well is compact and should last a long time. It made my time machine backup appear much quicker and at under 100 it’s a win win.
Great speed, works with other C type cables if you are me and forget where you placed the original ones (make sure it’s at least one of the thicker kind of cables) and the original cables do have ridiculous transfer speed. It does get a bit warm when I send 50GB at once and it handles it very steadily and fast, so hey, it is a mini portable device, not a space rocket :)) Highly recommended!
I needed a decent hard drive to store my music catalogue for DJ-ing. This offering from Samsung looked to be my best option. It’s a nice compact size, has a rubberised outer & hopefully will be durable & reliable. Only time will tell but so far, I’m impressed. Its also a high speed drive, so transferring files is pretty quick.
I purchased a T7 to go alongside my T5, but doubled my storage and went with the 1tb version. USB 3.2 so rapid speeds on file transfer which was necessary for me. Rather than buying the T7 that has the silicone shield case (cost a fortune) I instead bought a silicone sleeve on eBay for a few quid. Now I have a nice, more protected product to take on the go with me. Excellent item.
Looks and feels sturdy. I have not tested it in any harsh environment but it did survive a few meter tall drops to hard concrete without damage, internally or otherwise. Fast read and write speeds.
It’s fast, like working on your local hard drive. So much better than the normal disc HDs. It connects and disconnects easily too, you don’t have to wait long like the others. And it’s small!! Very happy with i
The first thing I noticed was how well made this is. I am not sure whether the casing is a hard synthetic or an anodized alloy: either way it is solid and has a good weight to it.
I easily installed the software for password and 256 bit encryption.
I formatted for NTFS, as I am using as an external backup for a Win11 PC.
Write speed is a solid 500MBs for large files and about half that for small files. Not bad for encrypted files.
The drive got warm but not enough to cause any kind of concern.
Nice drive at a reasonable cost, as I only need a 1TB drive.
Bought to run a Hackintosh off of my current PC whilst thinking of switching to a Mac Mini. Perfect for this use – fast transfer speeds, convenient size, plug and play, great value for money. Highly recommended!
Drive is much smaller than I expected, therefore, it is highly portable and its large capacity and fast speed means that I can backup files with ease. I need to keep my files in sync on two laptops – this drive allows me to manage this with ease.
The performance of this hard drive has been excellent so far. The read and write speeds are impressive, making data transfers fast and efficient. I have used it for gaming and media editing, and it handles large files without any noticeable slowdowns.
I also ordered another one to use it as external drive for final cut, really impressed with i
This is quite a small unit, but, it is quite powerful in terms of memory capability. I just wanted it to back up all of my photos which are on my PC, and it does just that. Speed is of no concern to me so I am not bothered about that. It, so far, has done all I have asked of i
Hello…..this is bloody good, fast, light and rugged and doesnt take up any desk space at all. I couldnt afford the higher storage one but this one has saved a shed load of high quality images, speedily and safely. I will highly recommend this as Samsung user…Bye
I really like the size and weight of the Samsung T7. I use it with my iPad m1 using the lead provided. Don’t use other leads unless recommended for fast transfer of files. The drive is plug and play so easy to use. It shows up on your iPad as T7. I copy files from iPad and paste in T7. You can add new files and rename them. It’s so fast. It can get warm if transferring very large amounts of data. You don’t have to set up security unless you want to. If you do you need to setup on a computer using Samsung software included on drive. Would fully recommend.
Bought for Macbook Time Machine backups – quick & easy to setup, fast write speeds, very compact. Early days but expect continued performance from a reputable brand
Always buy these when they are on offer, fast, small – perfect for video editing
This is the second one i’ve bought. Secure safe and very efficient . You can fit it in a jacket pocket and take it anywhere with you. Can attach it to your phone and any other device. Would definitely recommend i
The actual drive unit is great and easy to use and instal. I did drop a star though as the cables provided do not seem to connect well, especially the usbc cable it regularly gives connection errors so i use my own higher quality cable
It takes about 25 minutes to tranfser 600GB data into this SSD from another NVMe drive. It may be due to my system not being able to provide sufficient power to it if HP notifications are correct. Benchmark tests also show 80% lower values than I was made to believe from the product description, so I’m not sure if I’d have been better off getting a Crucial X8 instead.. It was delivered in good packaging and speedy service, and the build quality is superb.
This is a very neat unit. Works across Mac, iPad and phone no issues. I can now copy photos off to it when on the road and it is small enough to hide away anywhere.
Works well once set up but the Mac software requires particular access to the operating system which requires changes to various boot up / system parameters. Took me a while to get it working.
I bought this as a backup storage device for my desktop. I wanted something small and sturdy that could be transported. The T7 is tiny, very fast, comes with two USB cables, so I can use the faster type C connection on my PC. Its simple to use. Just plug it in and get started. Absolutely 5 stars, assuming it doesn’t break down!
I recently purchased the Samsung T7 Portable SSD with a 500 GB capacity, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. This little device has completely transformed my storage experience.
The speed of the T7 Portable SSD is nothing short of amazing. Transferring files is a breeze, thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. Whether it’s large files or small documents, everything transfers at lightning-fast speeds. I no longer have to wait around for my data to transfer, which has significantly improved my productivity.
The compact design of the T7 is a real game-changer. It’s so small and lightweight that I can easily slip it into my pocket or bag without any hassle. It’s the perfect companion for people on the go, allowing me to carry all my important files wherever I need to be. Plus, the sleek and durable exterior gives me confidence that my data is well-protected.
Setting up the T7 was a breeze. It seamlessly connects to my Windows device, and I didn’t encounter any compatibility issues. The included software is intuitive and straightforward, providing useful features like password protection and firmware updates. The peace of mind knowing my data is secure is invaluable.
The 500 GB capacity of this SSD is more than enough for my needs. It accommodates all my files, from photos and videos to important documents and work projects. If I ever need more storage, I know that the T7 comes in higher capacities as well.
In conclusion, the Samsung T7 Portable SSD is an incredible storage solution. Its lightning-fast speed, compact design, and reliable performance make it a must-have for anyone in need of portable storage. I highly recommend the Samsung T7 Portable SSD to anyone looking for a high-quality and dependable storage device.
Lightning fast compared to my LaCie ssd, write speed is fast too. 128 go files transferred very quickly.
Yes it can get a little warm but I found resting a bottle of water on it soon cooled it back down.
I loved it so much I’ve just bought a second one.
Very compact design and no heating. Really liked it. I have installed Mac os catalina in my late 2013 iMac and the speed has really enhanced I can feel. My computer is like new
Bought this to speed up a 2013 iMac running Catalina. Amazing performance now using it as my boot disc. Can’t believe the difference. Easily four or five times faster. If your Mac is running on the old hard drive, change it to this SSD without hesitation.
Pretty fast SSD with lots of storage but can overheat in extreme scenarios. I was trying to copy a 1.5TB file onto the SSD and it kept getting very hot and malfunctioning, causing the copy operation to fail and at one point even crashing my PC. After numerous attempts I decided to put some ice in a plastic bag and wrap the SSD in it (careful not to risk water damage). This allowed the file to copy over successfully.
For normal operation like storing files/games it is fine but be careful of overheating if pushed too far.
I recently went on a holiday to the Philippines and I used the Samsung T7 SSD to back up all of my GoPro and drone footage. I was really impressed with the performance of the SSD. It was able to transfer my footage quickly and easily, and it was also very durable. I was able to take the SSD with me on all of my adventures, and I never had to worry about it getting damaged.
The Samsung T7 SSD is a great choice for anyone who needs a reliable and portable way to store their data. It’s small and lightweight, so it’s easy to take with you wherever you go, and it’s fast enough to transfer large files quickly. I would definitely recommend the Samsung T7 SSD to anyone who is looking for a great way to back up their data.
Here are some of the pros and cons of the Samsung T7 SSD:
Pros:
Fast transfer speeds
Durable
Small and lightweight
Password-protected
Available in a variety of colors
Cons:
Can be expensive
Not water-resistant
Not shockproof
Overall, I am very happy with the Samsung T7 SSD. It is a great way to back up my data and it has performed flawlessly
I now have four T5’s and this one T7. They are seriously the best drives ever. They mount quickly, unmount quickly. copying onto them is a dream, you can’t believe how fast it can transfer gigabytes, it takes seconds. These drives significantly outperform all other drives I have used. If you have a Samsung smartphone you can plug it straight into the phone and it mounts as an external drive, giving you access to all your files even on your phone. Of course, they ARE rather expensive, and the largest size is 2Tb. But they are coming down a lot in price in last 2-3 years. I am looking forward to 5Tb versions hopefully will be made. By the way, I have had numerous external HDs fail on me, but my first T5 bought about 5 years ago, performs like new and has never had any problems, neither have the others bought more recently. Nevertheless, I don’t trust any drives, and make multiple backups, even with these T5s and T7, but so far they have not let me down. Therefore, if you are willing to spend the money, these drives are certainly worth it.
I was actually blown away by the size and weight of this awesome little drive. It is perfect for backing up and storing huge files. I’m a Mac user so I immediately threw out the bundled software and reformatted this drive for mac (recommended) I am also not able to give my opinion on the software or encryption tools because I don’t use them. I plan to use this drive to store photos and back up of non-sensitive personal files like wedding movies and photos. I want them to be available (preserved) for as long as possible so encryption with software seemed like a bit of a risk for long term access.
It’s lightning fast (assuming you have a good computer with the latest usb connections. )
The quality of the cables included seems good and there is nothing unusual or “bespoke” about the connections so you can always replace the cables. As always I would be carful when plugging in and out any cables because the “plug” on the drive will not last forever. But if you look after it and take care when plugging in and out it will last pretty well, I hope ?.
Highly recommended.
I use this drive to save large image files generated by our microscope at work. My old spinning portable HDD would take maybe 5-10 secs to save an image and take about 2-3 minutes to convert them all to TIFF’s at the end of an imaging session. However with this drive saving the images and converting them to TIFF take no time at all. Saving the raw image is near instant! This has massively sped up my work flow and now I have the added safety of knowing the data is more secure due to the rugged nature of the T7 Shield! Really happy I decided to pull the trigger on this little drive. It somes with both the USB-a to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-C cables. They’re a good length. My point would be that it would have been nice if a small pouch was included as a way of keeping everything together, but its a minor thing.
