Great! Really well packaged-good design. Item feels good, it feels rubberised and strong. TWO leads C&C and C&A USB port leads. Plug and play. Worked immediately out the box. Downside, although I guess minor, it did not copy my files exactly, I had to rename. Maybe that happens with storage devices now but that never happened with my old Storage Jet. Time will tell if it continues as it started. Bought Amazon UK July 2024.

This SSD offers a 2,000 GB storage capacity and is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an external hard drive. Its compact size, comparable to a bank card, and its thick, rubberized exterior provide outstanding protection. With read/write speeds up to 1,050/1,000MB, data transfer is fast. The included management software keeps the firmware updated, monitors drive health, enhances performance, and protects your data using Samsung Magician Software.

Remarkably small for a 2TB portable drive that is also tough. With longer backups it gets warm, but not enough to be a concern. I have not measured transfer speeds, but this drive takes less than half the time that my mains powered conventional drive takes, so that’s a bonus. For trips away from home I take two of these drives to backup my laptop – they take up less space than its power supply. If prices of ssd continues to fall I look forward to getting a 4TB as my main home backup. As well as two of these, I have an older 1TB version and no faults so far.

Needed an SSD drive to help free up space on MacBook which i use mainly for my photographs. I actually bought 2 of these drives and they were easy to set up and use. Very happy.

Got this with a Samsung promotion. Reliable and fast storage in a convenient and portable form factor. Great value for money if you can get it with a Samsung promotional offer.

Is very fast and easy to connect and use is also quite small so easy to store and does not use much space. It is more expensive than other drives but for the build quality and speed it’s worth it as it won’t get damaged easy and will last for a long time. Makes no noise and is lightweight.

Small tidy and works really well. I have several different makes of Portable SSD’s. Not really had a problem with any of them but I do tend to stick to the recognised / reliable brands. I like the unit I think that I paid a fair price for it and for most uses it is fast enough. What is not to like. Currently this one is being a Time Machine for my Mac mini. Mac mini no noise as there is no fan and with this SSD the hourly backups are just done quickly / silently and I have never noticed the unit getting too hot. (Note I also run a second backup to a NAS) But when it comes to moving to a new PC it is an SSD as the primary copy as it is so fast and doesn’t make any noise:-) I also have a much early version of this from Samsung and that using is still going well. So I rate this as a very practically useful drive.

I bought this to add a third back up for irreplaceable files.
I had worries about a SanDisk SSD, which although of a generation before the ones which are currently failing and under class action lawsuits, runs extremely hot to the touch and is in a flimsy plastic case.
My other backup a 5 year old magnetic disc HDD.
So when I opened the T7 Shield pack I was pleased how solid the drive seemed, double the weight of my SanDisk and with proper IP rating.
I formatted the SSD to NTFS (which I believe gives better protection than exFAT against random disconnection during read / write cycles … lost all photos on an exFAT formatted SD card and after recovery all file names and metadata were lost). I work in a Windows only environment.
The NTFS formatted drive (no password encryption) gave much better speeds than the exFAT it came with.
I transferred about 1TB of data in under couple of hours, mostly photos and FLAC music with write speeds of 120 – 250 MB/s but from a drive which could only offer 500 MB/s max.
When I did a Crystal Mark speed test on the NTFS formatted drive it pretty much met advertised spec, and it has never even got mildly warm through my few days of ownership.
As for peoples complaints … the drive exceeded capacity when adding up bytes in the decimal system. In binary / base 2 which computers usually use 1024 bytes equals a kilobyte, 1100 billion bytes in a terabyte, so depending under which convention you read the disc you could expect it to be 1.8TB in binary ! But SSD manufacturers use the decimal convention as it gives the higher number.
And I had no problem with security of the USB-C cables supplied (or any of my own cables), all clip in really securely.
A terrific product, but it will take many years to discover reliability

The speed, build quality and size are all great. My only concern is the USB slot. I have found that the cable has come out on a few occasions when I’ve moved my laptop. With other hard drives I’ve used the cable clicks in and is more secure. If you use this with a desktop or don’t have to move around too much with a laptop, then it’s not a major issue, but this has happened quite a few times with this hard drive and NEVER with any of the many other types I’ve used and I’ve used a lot. Given the price, I’d expect better.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI recently purchased the Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD 2 TB (MU-PE2T0S/EU) and have had the opportunity to use it extensively over the past few weeks. Here are my thoughts on its performance and build quality.

    #### Performance
The T7 Shield excels in terms of speed and reliability. With its USB 3.2 Gen.2 interface, data transfer rates are incredibly fast, making file transfers and backups a breeze. I was particularly impressed with the read and write speeds, which significantly reduced my waiting time compared to older external drives I’ve used.

    #### Portability
Its compact size and lightweight design make it an excellent choice for on-the-go use. The SSD easily fits into my bag or pocket, and I can carry it around without any hassle. It’s perfect for those who need a reliable storage solution while traveling.

    #### Durability
One of the standout features of the T7 Shield is its robust build. Designed to withstand drops and shocks, it initially felt like a solid and secure investment. However, this is where my experience took a turn.

    #### Issues with the Protection Shield
Unfortunately, despite its promising start, the protection shield started to come loose within just a few days of use. This was quite disappointing as it not only affects the aesthetic appeal but also raises concerns about the long-term durability of the product. The shield is supposed to be a key feature that adds to the device’s ruggedness, but its poor adhesion has made it look unappealing and less trustworthy for heavy-duty use.

    #### Conclusion
While the Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD 2 TB delivers outstanding performance and is very portable, the issue with the protection shield is a significant drawback. For a product that markets itself as durable and rugged, this flaw is quite glaring. If Samsung addresses this issue in future iterations, it would be an almost perfect portable SSD. As it stands, I can recommend it for its speed and portability, but potential buyers should be aware of the possible durability concerns.

This SSD has given the most problems when I connected with S24 Ultra. I just could not get it working and the supplied USB C to C cable doesnt work but what does after so much fiddling around is this: Download the Samsung Magician pc software and connect the SSD to update the firmware there will be an update, then format the drive to exFAT incase you did it to NTFS, after use the supplied USB C to A cable and use a USB C to A adapter and connect the adapter into your phone and then the USB cable that came with the SSD, with the USB C side of the cable connected into the adapter and then it will work just fine with your Samsung S24 Ultra and quite possibly many Android Devices. I have no idea why Samsung made their devices not to work with their own devices but instead others like Xiaomi etc so this is definately a step in the wrong direction and will need to be fixed for all future portable SSD they make.

If you want a USB drive that feels well protected and can sit nicely in most small spaces without sliding (thanks to rubber exterior) then this model is just the job. Getting data on and off it is reasonably nippy, and it works well as a virtual server. I currently have one of these attached directly to the USB input of my FritzBox router, where it serves my large digital music collection wirelessly to my iPad which I use to send to my Sonos Amp. So far, it is flawless.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this to be the backup disk used by Apple’s Time Machine software running in a Mac with 2023’s latest OS. I didn’t have much choice about the storage technology or the capacity (see below); this 2TB Samsung device looked like a good (perhaps the best) buy from a known manufacturer and I’ve found nothing to contradict this.
It had to be external storage or there’s no point (I have found Time Machine works better with locally attached than with network storage. I wanted it to be twice the capacity of the internal storage so that it would hold backups for a good length of time. From experience I know that Apple’s “improvements” to their Mac software have made Time Machine perform badly if its disk is not formatted with Apple’s latest file system (APFS) and that APFS is so carefully designed to work best with SSDs that its performance with rotating disks is very poor.
This is an impressively small and lightweight device complete with an access indicator light, which I like. Its connector is USB-C and it came with two leads to connect to either a USB-A or a USB-C socket – helpful.
I haven’t tested its tolerance to being dropped and can’t say anything about how long it will continue to operate. (I believe SSD technology has limits on how long it can reliably store data and how many times the same memory cell can be overwritten. I don’t know what they are for this device, but I’m sure they are both less than for rotating disk technology. Of course, neither type of storage gives archival quality.)

I edit a lot of high quality footage and in the past it’s taken ages to transfer footage after a days shooting. With this hard drive it hardly takes any time at all and I don’t have to worry if I accidentally drop it. (Which has happened before)
    Great Hard Drive.

Despite my mobile phone not recognising the hard drive was connected, a little trouble shooting sorted it out. Glad I went with the 2TB because I wanted to back-up all my photos and free up storage. About 1,500 pictures and videos have been transferred and the hard drive is 81% full. Great little hard drive!

I purchased this for my Samsung smart tv so I could pause, rewind and record. It arrived in 1 day, it’s way smaller than I expected which is a bonus. It worked straight out of the box. I had to format it once connected which was pretty much instant and then it just worked. If you are looking at this SSD for the same reason, I would definitely recommend it so don’t hesitate. It does exactly what I wanted.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI bought this SSD during a prime day event so it represented amazing value for 4TB of SSD storage from a reputable brand. Like other Samsung T5/T7 drives it is impressive how small and slim these devices are. Using it with an Apple iMac M1 and USB-C, I get around 800MBs write speeds and 760MBs read speeds using a high speed USB-C cable and with the drive encrypted under APFS. Whilst that doesn’t compare to the built-in SSD of the Apple computer, it’s definitely an improvement over an external mechanical harddrive and of course completely silent. Very impressive for the price! The drive comes with a rather short high speed USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-3 (A) to USB-C cable. You can of course use it on a PC, Mac, and it even works on my iPad and iPhone with USB-C.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought the shield version as it offered good protection and was surprisingly cheaper than the non shield version. According to my iPhone this 1 Tb drive offers the following recording times:
    4K @ 60 fps = 69 minutes
    4K @ 30 fps = 139 minutes
    4K @ 25 fps = 166 minutes
    4K @ 24 fps = 173 minutes
It works perfectly and is very well made with good transfer rates as expected.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have been using this as a backup drive for important files regularly now for quite a while. I’ve had no problems with it! Due to its external rubber coating it’s very durable. I have dropped it multiple times and have had no issues! It looks very smart and another bonus is that due to the rubber coating it doesn’t move about on my desk like ones of a similar size would due to their weight!

My old external backup HDD started making worrying noises so it was time to replace before it inevitably failed on the same day as my actual computer decided to have an issue. A tiny solid state (and therefore no moving parts) HDD which draws power via USB has twice the capacity of the legacy backup drive.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was trying to decide which portable SSD to buy for my MacBook M1, and like I usually do I research things until I’m blue in the face. This is an amazing bit of kit, transfer speeds are very fast. I film a lot of 4k video and shoot 60mp raw files, so fast transfer speeds and reliability are my top criteria, and I wasn’t disappointed. Also liked the rubber casing, which is an added bonus for the extra bit of protection. Highly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to buy again. Infact I’ll be ordering another for a back up. 10/10 Samsung.

Great speed, works with other C type cables if you are me and forget where you placed the original ones (make sure it’s at least one of the thicker kind of cables) and the original cables do have ridiculous transfer speed. It does get a bit warm when I send 50GB at once and it handles it very steadily and fast, so hey, it is a mini portable device, not a space rocket :)) Highly recommended!

Its also a high speed drive, so transferring files is pretty quick.

This drive gets five stars all day long from me.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI already owned 1 of these, and it’s time to get a second. I literally just plug n play them into a spare USB slot, and keep them in there. They show up as a removable drive, but keep their letter, so I use them in cahoots with OBS to record my live stream in both 1440p and 4K.
Depending on my mood, I either upload the video file in 1, directly to the usual social places, or edit it, and upload that – the point being these drives are yet to let me down at all, and together with OBS, have yet to skip a beat (my settings are 16-24mbps on 1440, and 32-40mbps on 4K – both 60fps). Literally not 1 dropped frame in many hundreds of hours of content.
I can highly recommend them for anyone else too lazy to open up their computer case, and upgrade their internal drives (that’s my excuse anyway, due to all the rigmarole that it entails, with reformatting and reinstalling stuff..)
What’s also great, I can use one of these to very quickly transfer large video files to take on visits and showcase my work, and again, I use 2 of these, together with 1 older model, side by side, to give 3 high speed drives on the end of USB cables.
It obviously goes without saying to ensure your computer’s USB connectors are up to date and not ancient, or these things will not work very well, like with anything.

I easily installed the software for password and 256 bit encryption.
I formatted for NTFS, as I am using as an external backup for a Win11 PC.
Write speed is a solid 500MBs for large files and about half that for small files. Not bad for encrypted files.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersThis 2TB external hard drive is small and compact, making it a great option for those who need a lot of storage but don’t have much space.

The read and write performance is impressive, with average speeds of 869 MB/s for writes and 881.40 MB/s for reads when connected via USB-C.

These speeds are much faster than my previous external hard drive, which uses older 2.5 hard disk technology. While I haven’t checked the exact speeds, I’m happy as long as the drive is able to quickly transfer my backup files from my MacBook and has enough space for them.

I bought this SSD to improve the usability of my Photos Library on my MacBook M1, and it works well with Apple M1 and M2 products. While it’s too early to tell how reliable the drive will be, I’m confident in its quality since it’s a Samsung product.

Samsung drive has won numerious yearly awards for performance, price and size.

One potential downside is that the drive doesn’t come with any protective cover or case, so you might want to consider buying a travel case if you plan to take it on the go.

Additionally, the software that Samsung provides with the drive isn’t very useful and isn’t supported on Macs, although it does work well on Windows.

Overall, this is a great external hard drive and I believe it’s worth the price I paid (just over 142 on Amazon during a promotion).
