Wherever space, time and power availability allow it, I use an Atomos field recorder with SSDs. These give me ample storage at very high data rates. However, there are often occasions where I just don’t have the time to set this up, or there isn’t any space for the Atomos, or (most commonly) where I am filming a long form live performance and don’t have access to power. With these cards, I know I can capture the entire performance at the highest resolution and data rate my GH5 camera will allow, and using a dummy battery with a power bank, the bettery doesn’t need swapping. I’ve not had any glitches with any of these cards and will continue to buy them going forward. Recommended.
I bought a SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO Class 10, U3, V30 SD card some time ago. I bought some UHS II cards recently because I have a camera that has those ports. After I tested my UHS II cards with H2testW I decided to test this one and my results were amazing – 91MB Write and 143MB Read. For a UHS I card I think these are pretty good figures.
This review isn’t for the present card but for the card that it replaced.
I use these cards for photography and this is the first card in over 20 years that has failed.
For some time the write protect tab has moved to the protect position and I had to keep resetting it, the tab eventually snapped off making the card useless, luckily I had saved my images to my computer first. I never use the write protect facility and I would personally prefer not to have it as I feel this is a weak point. I’ve always used SanDisk in the past and will continue to do so, apart from the last card I have found them to be very reliable.
This is more of a reveiw for both the product AND amazon. And i dont often advise people on where to buy stuff.
The card is fast enough to do what needs to be done, a capacity that you shouldnt run out of space easily, unless you are going 100% raw and left your finger on the shutter button.
This comes with a 12month sub to sandisk software, cannot for the life of me remember what it is called, i think it is a recovery thing. Anyway, that was a bonus that popped into my head.
Buy this with confidence, i have bought a lot of memory cards over the decades, and it is a minefield, I got fed up of buying cards that were bogus, might say, lets say., 8gb on the card but only be a 2gb one. There are a lot knocking around, and sadly i have even had one on amazon.
Over the recent years, or decade, i havent had a bad one from amazon. Remember when buying that sometimes if it looks to good to be true, it probably is – like a 1tb card for 5. What i also so is always check the capacity is what it says it is, i dont think i would be allowed to put the name of the little program i use on here, but do a dr google search for memory card checker, its defaults to german so remember to select the english. I just run it and leave to give me the end report.
Thats not just advice for this one, this IS a genuine one, but for ANY, so many scammers out there.
Bought for my 20mb Panasonic camera. This camera needs a fast speed SD card and this one fits the bill nicely.
Have used SanDisk cards professionally for years, never been a problem. I have always replaced them on a regular basis, and sometimes split shoots between cards, the size price of cards and write speeds amaze me, how fast and cheap they are now!
I had a similar card but had a slower speed, have been using that for around 6 years but every now and then I get errors so purchased this in case of failure.
I have no issues with the card, very quick when taking bursts and download them onto my laptop at the end of a photo session. No complaints from me and would certainly buy another one
Works fine with camera, just starting out so i am only using it for basics
fits my camera and instant use no faffing about put memory card in camera accepted immediately
Probably the reference among SD cards. Still, I seem to keep on losing them 😉
Never had one of these cards fail. The 128GB is a must have for any photographer. Writes fast enough and transfers in the time it takes to make a cuppa.
This memory card* is good quality products, however it was purchase for my grandson’s phone, but is not for phone’s it’s for cameras, he was a little disappointed on his purchase, and a bit upset over it..
The product is arriving at good quality and function as expected. Used in my ZV-1, no noticeable delay in saving videos or pictures.
i used sand disk memory card 128gb for my sony alpha 7 m3 dslr mirrorless camera, good quality item.
would use same again excellent*****. perfect for stills-movies.
San disc has a reputation & probably trades on it somewhat. I have used an almost identical item for quite a few years with no problems. This new card replaces an older card that has started to be unreliable for important work . . . new loading errors or difficulty transferring images on to the computer etc.
Very happy with yet another SanDisk card. I have twelve of various speeds and capacities and have never experienced a corrupted or failed card. I know it can happen but it hasn’t been the case for me.
I made the mistake of buying a card from a well known phone, tv and tablet manufacturer and for the second time their card failed, the newest one failed on first use.
I find SanDisk and Lexar are reliable and durable and would recommend either.
I have now been using this card for a number of weeks and everything has been fine. I have used these cards before but these are slightly faster than my previous buys. My camera also uses a CF Express card and I can’t really say that I notice a great difference between the 2 cards when the camera automatically switches to the SD card, therefore so far really pleased with their performance.
I’ve bought dozens of these Extreme cards over the years (95MB/s, 100MB/s, 170MB/s and now 200MB/s editions), so I know exactly what to expect. But what I didn’t realise until recently is that Sandisk’s SD card speeds are stated much higher than you would typically get, unless you own a very specific SD card reader.
Sandisk’s recent UHS-I (64GB and higher) cards now have “SanDisk QuickFlow Technology” in order to reach these faster speeds. If you do not own a SD card reader with this SanDisk QuickFlow Technology, you will struggle to see consistent speeds much above the standard SD UHS-1 read speeds – approximately 100MB/s (that’s about 90MB/s write speed). It shouldn’t matter what version of USB-C interface is used, since 200MB/s is the same as 1.6Gbps – i.e. still much less than the 5Gbps speed of USB 3.0 (aka 3.2 gen 1) and much less than the 10Gbps of USB 3.2 gen 2. Any USB-3 port should be fast enough.
Sandisk’s Extreme Pro USH-II USB-C reader (previously sold with these cards) does NOT include Quickflow Technology. The Sandisk Professional card readers that do have Quickflow have their own caveats (the one with a CF card slot can reach speeds of 170MB/s, the one without a CF card slot can reach 200MB/s but cannot read the additional pins from UHS-II cards). Google “SanDisk Quickflow Tech Brief” for clarification – because it’s a mess to understand.
I would also state that I’ve always bought my cards shipped by and SOLD BY Amazon. The seller is important – as you will always get the real thing. I would be wary of using any Warehouse versions as you don’t know who the original seller is. These Extreme and Extreme PRO cards have always been prone to fake knockoffs. The prices here also fluctuate a lot, so I always put the desired cards in my wish list and pounce when it drops.
I personally steer away from their Sandisk’s “Ultra” line, simply because I’ve had too many failures – something I’ve never experienced with the “Extreme” products. So the extra is worth it if reliability is a necessity.
I’ve had the luxury of dealing with Sandisk warranty support a few times (typically the SD card becomes ‘locked’ and cannot be formatted properly), and they have always been excellent to deal with. Just take a photograph of the serial number and fill out a form on their website. They usually send back a better card anyway.
Hope that helps.
