I bought five of the RFID expansion boards for a project.

The board includes a socket for the Raspberry Pi Pico, together with breakouts so that all the GPIO pins are accessible. There is also the RFID module itself, a buzzer and a tiny display which can be used to output debug messages and so on. The components are attached to some of the pins on the Pico, but there are also jumpers to allow the pins to be reassigned if necessary. The board has mounting holes in the corners but no screws are supplied- I might try 3D-printing some cases for them.

The boards are supplied with two sample RFID devices- a keyfob and a card- and I was kind of surprised that the units are also supplied with a Pico, with headers already attached. The only thing missing is a USB power cable.

The boards are easy enough to get started with- there is a sample MicroPython program provided on Github that covers most of the main features, although the documentation is quite poor so it requires some experimentation to work out what all of the various parameters do and so on.

The packaging could be improved- they are supplied in antistatic bags which are barely big enough and not padded or anything, and a couple of mine had bent pins when they arrived. But overall, they are pretty nice units, nicely made with good functionality.

…it shipped with a Pico WH so I could use it for my intended purpose. That aside it’s a convenient (albeit expensive) way of getting all the bits together in one place at one time. FYI it seems to work with the Pico WH (based on my swapping the supplied Pico H for a WH I had lying around and using Micropython (client) and Flask (server) to create a prototype IoT client/server lash up). There’s sufficient instructions/samples on GitHub to get you up and running with it.
