This is far from simple to build. It’s an intricate and clever design, with lots of interesting detail. Great quality plastic and vivid colours and excellent articulation in the astronaut’s joints, which makes it great to play with as well as display in the room.
This was an incredible build; I was completely absorbed by the techniques used and the way it all came together to make this iconic piece of Space History.
Assembling this set was straight forward with the included build instructions.
Sillbird’s attention to detail on the oxygen cylinder, the connection of the soft pipe, the electroplated helmet is absolutely superb. They managed to capture the space suits with perfect detail.
All in all, I really enjoyed building the Space Astronaut and can now enjoy the model that sits in my room.
This building set is so amazing, has 900 pieces, and was a birthday gift for my nephew. He was impressed by how awesome this gift is, and his parents the same, as it kept him engaged to finish it.
I like this type of building set for children to improve their creative skills. The booklet with instructions is very clear, the box is very well presented and the pieces are made of high-quality ABS plastic. The age required for this type of set is +8, but some kids will need an adult’s help.
I would highly recommend this toy, a creative building set.
I loved this as soon as I saw it. The design is well thought out and a really appealing activity to undertake with your older child. This says from age 8, honestly most 8 yr olds would need the supervision as it can be quite frustrating at times even for an adult, especially if you used the wrong piece and have to redo it.
The pieces are bagged separately and this makes life easier. Some of the colours are very similar though and if you use a wrong piece it’s annoying. You can’t always tell the difference between a white and pale grey piece in the instructions manual and there will be similar shaped pieces in either colour.
This is very like Lego . The pieces connect well together, although not as tightly as the branded product, this can be construed as both good and bad. If you use the wrong piece it is easier to disemble this, it is also harder to fix more complex pieces together.
On the whole this is a really rewarding construction toy that looks brilliant on completion and would be suitable for display. It’s good for cognitive development and fine manipulative skills .
This costs 48 at time of review, not an excessive amount and cheaper than it’s branded competitor. It would make a great gift idea and I’m sure it could be on offer coming up to Christmas. Either way I would recommend.
A lovely product that is fun to build, great material, strong and sturdy, lots of different little bits, not sharp at all, easy and safe to play with, love the colours and the detail of this. Makes a great gift. Definitely recommend.
This is a fantastic Astronaut Model, the quality is great.
I will say is excellent for kids and adults, take time to build but looks great, at the moment ( we are still in the process).
They come with clear instructions and the pieces are in small bags. It is really cool and is a fantastic gift idea for kids and adults too. I totally recommend it.
The quality of the Space Astronaut Building Toys Set is very good. Big, well made, parts, colourful and solid, it looks very creative, kids can improvise and show their creative side. With perseverance though they’re then very nice astronaut.
The instruction is good to help put it together, as well as simply playing with the toys, these will provide hours of creative fun.
It is a very good idea for a boy who likes astronaut, Would recommend.
This is just the thing for mums and dads to do with their older kids over a couple of wet and dreary afternoons. This 900 piece ‘build-an-astronaut’ set comes with a very comprehensive and fully coloured instruction manual, all of the pieces are sealed in numbered bags – however it still needs you to take your time and to concentrate, as you can make mistakes which will then require a bit of dismantling and rebuilding to make it right. Once you start this it becomes almost addictive, however it’s best to make sure that you have a break now and then or you could end up rushing and having to break bits up and do them again.
I haven’t completed this yet but when I do, the astronaut will be about 10″ tall and it will have moveable joints in the limbs so that you can change its pose as you display it. At the time of my review this kit would cost you 48.99, which is a great price for a ‘fun to do’ joint parent / child bonding session.
This astronaut takes several hours to build. It’s a challenging but rewarding build, and the final model looks impressive. It stands around 25cm tall and fits well on a bookshelf for display.
There are couple of things to consider: compared to Lego, the bricks are not quite the same quality and don’t gold together quite as snugly.
Also, it can be hard to distinguish between the colours of some bricks when following the building instructions, and you can mistakenly use the wrong one only to have to undo work later on when you realise the error – just make sure you are really careful!
Not the lego brand but still holds up with good quality and a pretty cool design. It does not come across as cheap lego, and I would say the price point is justified with this one.
The build was fairly straightforward and not super time consuming, with the two of us building it together step by step for a few hours a day, we took about 4 days. There were not many issues and the instructions were straightforward and clear as to what we should be doing. No pieces were missing, Overall it was entertaining and we had fun putting it together as we would a normal lego set.
The design looks great, lots of small pieces and detail. The shiny helmet is a nice touch and the stand to display it makes it great for people who are a little too old to be playing with the finished piece, with all the moveable pieces I’m sure kids can have plenty of fun playing with this.
Wow this is a wonderful building kit
900 pieces to build into an astronaut
Half human and half mechanical
This will be awesome for anyone
I haven`t started this yet as waiting for my grandchildren to visit
What a wonderful toy
Amazing but it can be very challenging to put together, this is much better suited for older Children.
It can take some time to put it together as they’re small pieces but honestly we enjoyed the challenge, we did a bit each night until we’d finished it.
Very good quality and once together they’re very sturdy too, very affordable to purchase too, overall I’d highly reccomend this.
This seems like a decent quality item, the pieces are very well made although the instruction book can be awkward at times – white and light grey can look similar in the book.
The pieces are conveniently bagged in numbered bags for the body, legs etc so you don’t have to rake through 900 pieces.
The pieces don’t hold together as the famous brand name, and I wouldn’t give this to any 8 year old, it might be fun to do with a parent or older sibling but it’s probably too intricate for most, the instructions aren’t clear enough, and the quality means that things can break apart while you’re attaching limb to body etc.
This has taken me about 9 hours and has been frustrating at times, the instructions got worse as the build went on.
It’s not as expensive as the leading brand but it’s not as good either. A decent enough item for someone who likes models and building things though.
This is a very detailed Lego like toy but even for adults too. This has ALOT of pieces but comes with a full colour instruction book which is completely visual no reading.
The pieces are of high quality, very impressed. This will keep you and your kids occupied for hours.
I have not started the build yet as it seems clear from the many numbered bags containing the 900 pieces that this will take a while and I want to start it when my grandson visits. As it won’t be built in a single go a bit of a plan is needed so the model can be left during the build without disturbing the household.
I have tried assembling a few of the pieces and they lock together very well in a sort of Lego style. This means it will be a simple matter to dismantle the model and rebuild it several times if you wanted to or just let the grandson keep it as a built model. A dismantling tool is supplied in the kit.
There are no written instructions just a series of pictures and I am hoping that the various numbered bags will correspond to the pictures in the instruction book.
I do feel that toys like this are exceptionally good in giving younger children a task that involves a bit of thinking, a bit of patience and a bit of dexterity and I am confident that the grandson will really enjoy this building this project.
Yes, i bought this for myself (adult ) and I am very excited to be building this. ITs an excellent “lego” kinda set and its so well thought out. Im a space fanatic so this is just great! Its for 7yrs and over so a bit intense for small kids unless supervised. But its a great little project for any space loving adult. It has so many little bags of tiny parts when you first open it, which is daunting but it comes with a super detailed manual and build guide to walk you through each step. Im not finished it yet but the process is great. Highly recommend for small and big (adult) children.
This is about as good as non branded LEGO sets get. A fantastic model with good clear instructions and well made pieces. My son is slowly going through the build on his own so I don’t yet have completed shots. However, he is making progress and I don’t have any complaints. The price is getting closer to the real deal but still just about low enough to justify buying. Recommended.
This is one of those things that borders between being a toy for a child, or being a project for a hobbyist. The final completed Astronaut project would look equally great displayed on a child’s window sill, or upon an office shelf. If you are, or have been a Lego fan, then this will certainly appeal to you. The blocks look to me as if they are the same size as their more well known counterpart, although I haven’t physically measured them.
The Astronaut kit is supplied in a tough printed box which is sturdy enough to keep the blocks in when disassembled. It’s good to see the building blocks are separated into sealed bags, each bag is numbered with each containing the blocks for a specific part of the build. Once built and then disassembled again you will have a pile of 900 pieces to sort through, this should keep a bored child busy for hours.
Also included in the box is a thick full colour manual which holds 91 pages, this will guide you through every stage of building the Astronaut. What is handy is that the last few pages of the booklet has listed every single building block so that you can check that all parts are present. If anything is lost or missing then there is a ‘Parts-Service-Repair’ contact details on the last page, this provides details of a toll free phone line, email contact, or through their website.
I do have to admit that I haven’t fully assembled this yet as it’s probably going to take up most of the day, but so far it has been fun for myself and my son. The current price tag of 48.99 is a lot of money, but is in my opinion worth the expense.
Thank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.
We’ve been really enjoying building this spaceman over the past few days. What I really like about it, is that it feels quite different to a ‘Lego’ set in that the pieces are metallic, the model is looking pretty real, and it has this really interesting sort of cross-section appearance.
So, 900 pieces in a set like this is a pretty good amount. I’ve built the Hogwarts Castle, which is 6000+ pieces and this is nothing like as challenging and time consuming as that, but compared to some of the 300(ish) piece sets you find in the toy section of a supermarket, this is quite a step up. Based on how far we are through it, I’d say most people are going to be looking at between 4 and 12 hours depending how experienced you are and how many people are getting involved helping. A younger person may need a little longer than this and some adult help at some points.
Just like Lego, the steps are all easy enough to follow, although some of them you do need to study and think about before acting. You get a 90 page manual, which has a complete step-by-step walkthrough on how to build the spaceman, with pictures for each and every step. As long as you take your time, you shouldn’t go wrong and (usually) if you do, you can trace your steps backwards to find out what happened.
Each of the pieces is of very good quality. There’s very little give or flex in the pieces, so, just like Lego, I’m sure they will last a very long time. I was also impressed by how shiny the metallic pieces are and how bright and standout even the standard colours are.
As the model gets built, I’ve been really impressed with all the detail. From the pipelines to the moveable joints, this is a really well thought-out model that is as educational as it is fun.
Finally, as I said earlier, the look of this model is really quite unique for this kind of model. To be able to build and have on display a spaceman that is a sort of cross-section model as well is awesome. Whether for a child interested in space or an adult who enjoys astronomy, this will make a great gift.
I wasn’t convinced from the listing. It looked a bit too obviously lego style and I thought it wouldn’t be worth the price or the effort of following the instructions to fit together all 900 pieces. Actually it’s quite good, both demanding and offering a high degree of attention to detail. It’s almost educational.
I must admit I’ve been very impressed with this company and the products it supplies. This set is a prime example where its much cheaper than its counterpart and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference with only the lack of the logo missing from the bricks
The instructions are comprehensive (you could be forgiven for thinking it was a book!) but simple and very easy to follow. The bricks are pre packed into numbered bags and you also get a little disassembly tool (no more broken nails!) if i was to be picky i would say that perhaps the assembly of the model has been broken down into too many steps as you get a lot of small bags in the box. Last but not least is the inclusion in the back of the book of a diagram list of every single block used for the model -a nice touch i thought and makes this set a great idea for the model building type
