its a great plain does what it is supposed to do for a budget price
Very pleased with the plane, only used 1 so far so good
Opened the package only to find that the blade was damaged a Knick out of the cutting-edge. I know it’s was only 20 pounds so you get what you pay for .
I’m always suprised at how your can get quality tool so cheap these days. This is no exception. Hand planes are not things that work out the box – please don’t think it will work straight away, watch a great video on YouTube by Rag and Bone Brown – he’ll talk you through sharpening (using cheap stones, compound, honing guide etc), also how to set it up. Its VERY rewarding when you use this and start getting fine curls from your piece of wood. I tend to use this so much now I know what I am doing with it. I guess they’ve had to cut corners with the quality of steel, so a professional may say they need more frequent sharpening, but its seems to be sharp after some pretty heavy use. I love it.
My first plane, my first time using a plane. I needed to ease a door so thought I would buy a cheap plane (11.07). It arrived rust free because happily it had been covered in oil, I stripped it down and gave it a quick clean, got re-assembly instructions on the internet and after a couple of errors I now have a door that fits. The blade was VERY sharp on arrival and still cutting very nicely. Yes the handles were loose but at this price you can afford to buy a screwdriver to tighten them.
This is a nice little planet . It has a good feel to it and comes really well oiled which is nice the only things I don’t like about it are that when I took it out the box the handle was a little bit loose and the blade wasn’t as sharp as I’d like but both fixable problems. For the money it is great.
It is a good price for a plane because of the material its made from BUT it is not ready for use?? Mine has a blunted blade, i have experience using these but i do not expect the need to sharpen a blade before using it.
Excellent build quality and feels like a no.4 Stanley when in use. However mine came as blunt as a butter knife and took a while to sharpen to a usable edge and therefore could not be used out of the box.
Good plane overall but be ready with a sharpening stone.
his is my first plane, its well built and good quality,i watched youtube videos to learn how to use it,its easier then you think.ive used it for making wooden pallets nice and smooth,i would recommend you buy sharpenstones/whetstones to go with it,as you will need to sharpen it after a good use.this deos not reflect porrly on this plane,no matter what planes you have if you use it alot it will need sharpening, you could also use different grits of sandpaper to sharpen it,and buy different grits of whetstone, you can get different grits bundle for about 30 on amazo
Very happy with the plane. It works very well. Yes it was covered in oil when I opened it but that isn’t a problem. Is nice and weighty which I think helps it do it’s job.
When buying a plane in this price range you expect to have to sharpen the blade and some effort might be required to flatten the sole. This plane certainly required said extra effort, which thankfully turned out to be time well invested. I can now get nice long thin shavings the full width of my blade, and once properly sharpened it needs minimal effort in maintaining its edge. Because of this I’ve upgraded my review from 4 stars to 5. I’m very new to woodworking and if I can keep this blade sharp anyone can, and there’s a couple of great videos about flattening its sole. I only have 2 other bench planes to compare it to due to my limited experience, but as far as I can tell corrugated soles don’t make h’pence of difference.
product arrived alittle over oiled and needed a wipe down prior to use.
the plane blade could be sharper, and the does get clogged and requires clearing.
the feel and quality of the parts seem good overall and has worked well.
I don’t write many reviews but this deserves one. I needed a cheap wood planer to fix an internal garage door I knocked through and fit couple years back which had settled and was a pain to close and lock.
I wasn’t expecting much and to be honest would have been happy with disposing of it after this job for the price. First impression was that it felt pretty good quality and had a decent amount of weight behind it!
Blade was very sharp and once adjusted it planed wood off the solid fireproof garage door like butter!! It did the job required in 5 minutes and not only that I don’t need to bin it 🙂
Far too often people moan about poor quality…maybe should spend was a professional would on one of these I.e. around the 100 mark. For the price I paid, a little over 10 inc delivery it’s a bloody bargain and I definitely recommend it for the average DIYer.
I got this plane to take the sharp edge of some garden furniture. It did the job perfectly. The blade adjustment is fantastic, It meant I could take a really small amount of timber off at a time without taking chucks out of the material. My only negative is that when it arrived, it was boxed but completely covered in oil! Really good product for the price, bargain – would definitely recommend.
Works ok. Blade comes a bit rough (Will differently need sharpening out of the box). But I sharpened and now works a dream. I use it in work on a lot of rough wood . For the price not going to worry about breaking it. Leave my better planes for the finer work
I bought this plane based on the other review comments and I’m glad I did. I’m a very basic diy’er so need something that’s easy to use but well made. This fits the bill as it’s pretty easy to adjust the blade and didn’t need much sharpening. I managed to plane the side of a door with relative ease. The handle wobbles slightly but doesn’t have an adverse affect as it feels pretty sturdy when planing. I’ll be using it occasionally so let’s hope it’s reliable but so far so good.
