Speaker produces huge amounts of bass whilst keeping a very high quality of audio. Really easy to connect to device through bluetooth. Long lasting battery life means that this speaker can play audio for hours at a time without charging.
for the price, the splash proof shower speaker is amazing ! my other half can no longer hear my terrible singing in the shower.
i charge is every other day and so far so good, good sound quality – good bass for the size and overall i would recommend this produc
A fantastic speaker with great sound quality, considering its size! I like the fact that it comes with a tether, so I hang the speaker around the handlebars of the turbo trainer I have in the garage – music while I pedal! Very easy to setup – charge before first use, turn it on, select the speaker in bluetooth settings, instantly pairs. Highly recommended!
Small and very easy to use, not the loudest but it’s only tiddly. Shorter that a can of pop but fights above its weight. Good for chillin’ on the beach with your missus.
i ordered the speaker in order to play my playlist on my phone and was very impressed by the quality of the sound, I was taken aback to read that it was not suitable for people with certain medical devices implanted. on further enquiry, I found that it was all right as ong as it was 6inches away from my pacemaker.
I ordered this speaker when we were on holiday in an airbnb that didn’t have a tv or radio. It arrived straight away and enabled us to listen to the radio, play music, listen to the cricket and enhance the sound when using the iPad to watch tv.
Had read reviews saying thta the volume wasnt loud enough. I was pleasantly surprised that it was more than adequate. Apart from a strange resonance when a song with low bass notes very pleased.
Great bit of kit. Only downside is no fast charge and sometimes doesn’t show how much battery is left on phone.
Other than that is a must buy for the price
For the size of the speaker wasn’t expecting the quality sound that comes out. So glad I chose this as previous was an unknown brand to myself and have had to return as charging lead wouldn’t go in the port. Highly recommend.
Bought the speaker for listening in the garden. Sound quality is good and has good bass. The only minor complaint is that the volume could be a bit louder but that is not a deal breaker for me.
Bought on prime day offer, is fairly loud, decent bass and a great battery. It connects fast to my phone and works as expected. Would recommend for a small, easy speake
Connects easily to my iPhone, and the sound quality is excellent for such a small speaker. The supplied strap is useful to hang the speaker when you need to get on and do something. The battery charge lasts a good length of time and the controls on the speaker are not overly complicated to use.
Have always love Sony speakers got the previous one to this was very surprised to see Sony had better themselves, OK the unit is a little bit larger but the sound quality has improved, and it still retains its waterproof quality, definitely my a good choice to up grade as far as I can tell all previous features have been retained
Inexpensive and easy to link to my phone through Bluetooth. For around 30, it is a great way to listen to music and speech, good bass and general sound quality. Rechargeable and good storage between charging.
I carry it around in my toolbag so I can play music while I’m working. Powerful enough to be heard over a bank of air conditioners and servers in a Comms room, nice sound quality and infinitely better than just playing music on my phone
Clarity and bass excellently produced from a tiny unit. Paired it with my phone and TV and I have to say I’ve been enjoying it so far. Worth the money.
Edit: so good I bought another to pair. Sounds even more amazing. Worth every penny!
Was looking for a small speaker to do me for my holiday, after reading the previous reviews i purchased it and happy i did now. Fast delivery without prime, the speaker is 5watts and is pretty loud for a small speaker, great quality and sound coming from it and comes with a sturdy strap. I’m sure I’ll purchase a second one to be able to pair and sync them up, Great value for money
This speaker is well designed, solidly built and gives lovely sound reproduction. It is surprisingly good for a speaker it’s size, has a great bass presence and is easily portable, especially if you buy the sturdy carrying case made by Xanad (sold separately on Amazon). The charge lasts a reasonable amount of time and thus far is quick to recharge via the enclosed cable. Brilliant kit, I use it all the time for everything from Beethoven to Black Sabbath, the Beach Boys, BB King and Bob Marley. It handles them all superbly.
This speaker is not the smallest of the cylindrical speakers out there but it’s not very big (about 9.5cm tall) and if you’re a walker or a cyclist the additional bulk over, say, a Betron is not going to be a problem. Sound quality is very good – I was impressed when I first used it. I particularly liked the frequency response with the full bass, and it goes good and loud, too. There might be better speakers out there, but very few at this size and price. I have not got through a charge of battery yet but the quoted ‘up to 16 hours’ is commendable.
It’s super easy to set up – just find it on your device, click and it pairs right up, no issues.
It’s worth knowing the following:
– These speakers can be used in pairs, with one per each audio channel to make a mini-stereo.
– The speaker is waterproof
– There is no FM radio. Reassuring in a way, because it means they’ve spent the money elsewhere.
Got this because I needed a new small portable Bluetooth speaker I can easily fit in my bags for trips to the park or staying over in hotels etc. This definitely ticks the portability box nicely.
Aside from this I also have a Sony SRS-XB10 and a HomePod Mini around the house. The HomePod Mini is similarly small but not designed for portability (no battery) and of course only works with Apple products. But I’ll use both as comparisons for sound quality as they’re both small wireless speakers, keeping in mind the other Sony cost around the same as this one being a previous version of the same model, while the HomePod Mini costs 100.
Photographed in this review are both the black XB13 and the white XB10 for a visual comparison. The main change you’re likely to notice is the strap which is now a more rugged material on the XB13 whereas the XB10 has a thin cord connected to a piece of plastic. The casing of the speaker itself feels more “solid” as well, more substantial. It’s not so thick that it’s heavy – not at all – but it still feels better suited to brave the elements. So if you plan to travel outdoors with one of these, the XB13 is certainly an improvement over the XB10.
The XB13 cost me just a little over than 40 here on Amazon brand new. The sound, and in particular the bass response, is noticeably better than the XB10 although definitely sounds more “muddled” than the HomePod Mini and can be described as “tinny” at higher volumes.
This is to be expected however as not only are both much cheaper, but the XB13 is limited to SBC or AAC codec only. No others are supported. It would have been nice for Sony to add support for their own LDAC codec which would allow much better support for lossless music and I doubt the hardware would need much if any change to add this support as it’s a simple receiver. I’m guessing they reasoned it wasn’t worth adding for a low budget speaker. Still it’d have been nice to have with all the streaming services releasing lossless options and all modern Android phones having LDAC support built in.
Connectivity – the XB13 has no AUX support, so it’s Bluetooth via AAC only. Ditto for the HomePod although it uses WiFi rather than Bluetooth and will soon have lossless support. The XB10 does have AUX input as well as Bluetooth. However the XB13 and HomePod Mini both use modern USB-C for power while the old XB10 uses micro USB. With USB-C rapidly becoming the latest universal standard used by everything from Android phones, iPads, laptops, and indeed Sony’s own latest Bluetooth headphones, this is a welcome addition. It means if you’re travelling with an Android phone, iPad, laptop, or other device that uses USB-C you can use the same charger for this speaker too. Fewer cables to lug around is always welcome and most other low budget Bluetooth speakers and accessories of all types are still using outdated micro USB so Sony did good here.
Battery life seems good for the XB13. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to show a battery life indicator on the unit itself or on my phone like my Sony headphones do. Neither does the XB10. Seems like a strange omission given how easy it is to transmit battery level via Bluetooth to the paired device. But at a guess I’d suggest it does roughly live up to claimed 16 hours of battery life depending on how loud you push it.
For an experiment I tried playing Dolby Atmos music from my iPhone. As you’d probably expect it didn’t sound like spatial audio. It still played fine but didn’t produce the effect it does on Atmos supported devices like the HomePod Mini. I can’t really give the XB13 a ding for this as it doesn’t claim to have such support to begin with.
I also connected it to an Android phone and a Sony Walkman A45. Pairing was easy, fast, and flawless with no lag or disconnection. I would have liked to use the LDAC support on my A45 when connected to this speaker but that’s the only small complaint I have.
Overall impressions: this is a great little speaker that does the job well. I’d like to see support for LDAC added to a future model as it’s Sony’s own codec and it’s very good at playing lossless audio via Bluetooth. Other than that I don’t have much to really complain about. Initial pairing is fast and easy. Bluetooth connection is reliable. Sound quality is much better than you’d likely expect from a small low budget bluetooth speaker such as this.
If portability is a top priority this is your go to. If you plan to keep it in one place, perhaps look at the HomePod Mini if you use Apple gear. If you don’t mind lugging around a big speaker, larger higher end models can offer louder, high quality sound with better codec support.
But if you want exactly what this is – a cheap small speaker you can throw in your bag and play music anywhere – it’s the best in its class.
