Great piece of kit. Very sharp and extremely useful with the pointed tip so cutting into plasterboard. Very lightweight and a good size in the hand. Very quick at cutting. This is the best price I could find it for.
I helped my sister move some shrubs from raised beds. This little knife was able to cut throgh the matted roots with no trouble at all. As soon as I got home I ordered one and I now feel I have a wonderful addition to my tool kit. Great little knife
Purchased to assist in the cutting of holes in the plasterboard walls to run wiring etc or just to simply take out damaged plasterboard to fit new. Nice sharp teeth, blade locks into place and it makes the job nice and easy.
I work in confined spaces and clean inside machines, like green bags wrapped around the shafts and sometimes a saw is quicker to get them out,
With this saw the short blade part near the tip of the saw chipped that’s why I put 4 star’s.
I wanted a compact pad saw that would fit nicely in my tool bag but would also be solid when being used. It’s got a strong blade and cuts perfectly. I love that it can be folded and easily stored without taking up much space.
This pad saw is good at going in straight lines but I’ve found it not so good for cutting out circles for pipes and such because the blade is quite thick so it cant really bend to manoeuvre, But other than that a solid choice.
Ive used this in anger for the first time, cutting away a double thickness of plasterboard and some of the supporting timbers. In the hand it seems like may be a bit flimsy because of the folding mechanism, but in practice it was very solid.
The point is – from painful and clumsy experience – very, very sharp, making it easy to get started on plasterboard. Or an ankle for that matter.
Very effective for sawing off the old woody stem of my rose to allow to new growth on newer stems. The stem was probably about 2 inches thick and still took a bit of hard work while sawing but was done within a few minutes (with breaks haha).
I like that it packs away into the handle, both for safety and the fact it makes it much more compact.
I hope that it will stand the test of time for various other household and garden tasks, and of course will update this review if it doesn’t!
Great piece of kit to carry in your tool box.It is made to a very high quality and safety standard as you would expect from Stanley.I have not used it yet but im 100% confident in the item and anticipate no issues
This is an ideal bad saw for sticking in a tool bag. Because it is foldable you will never catch your hand and fingers on the blade trying to reach for something else.
It seems to be of a good build, I’m not sure how well this will stand against heavy use due to the folding mechanism but it’s been fine so far cutting false ceilings tiles, I’ll have to wait and see how it does with plasterboard.
Maybe I just like the idea of all my tools folding, but this is another item I bought just because it folds. I’ve used it a couple of times and it’s comfortable to fold, rips through stuff just like it should and makes difficult custs easy.
It folds though. Did I mention that?
Decent pad saw, isnt as durable and all as the fixed blade ones tho so I recommend a fixed blade non folding one for the jobs where it’ll get abused
I needed a Jab (pad?) saw to help me fit a loft hatch/ladder at my in laws’ house. As usual I read the reviews and decided the Fatmax saw fitted the bill.
The saw arrived in a retail hanging pack with the blade protected under a clear plastic cover and with a cable tie holding the handle onto the thick card (you’ll need a pair of cutters to get this off).
The saw blade folds into the handle when you press the big red button so it can be safely put into your tool box or a trouser pocket. When you open the blade there is a cut-out in the back of the blade so you can easily get it out of the handle. The blade locks in three different positions but I only needed the fully open one for the task in hand. The triple cut teeth cut on both the push and the pull stroke and rapidly eat through plasterboard.
I’d done the same job a couple of years ago in my Victorian era house and I’m not sure that I’d have wanted to use this kind of saw on a lath and plaster ceiling but it made this latest job relatively easy.
Only used this tool once to cut through some trunking which it did eventually but not like a hot knife through butter really. The teeth are quite big too but I imagine it’s more effective on wood. Good enough to have in my tool bag at all times as it’s so compact and beats carrying a mini hacksaw with loose teeth catching on everything.
I’ve bought various cheap jab saws over the years. They’ve all been OK-to-poor. Usually they’re not as sharp, or if they are they go blunt easily, or the blade bends waaay to much when you’re trying to use it.
This saw is superb. Super sharp, double bladed so it cuts well. Very sturdy grip and blade. Locks into multiple positions.
Had to enlarge a few downlight holes by hand and used this – it made it so easy, even compared to all the other jab saws I’ve had. Amazing. Seriously good piece of kit.
Buy it now and have it on-hand in case you need it.
As an apprentice electrician this tool is essential for cutting into plasterboard. Super sharp and the scabbard is a good edition to avoid hurting your hands and scratching other tools. Reason for four stars is that mine has gone rusty after two uses, I’m guessing I cut some damp plasterboard but all the work I do is inside. Would recommend rather than a cheap tool as you know it will last and it has a really comfy handle.
Great piece of kit, bought to use mainly on kitchen units etc to widen holes where pipes need a bit of coaxing. The saw has very sharp teeth and the whole blade is really rigid so should hold up pretty well against chipboard, hardboard and the like. Don’t know how long it would stay sharp when used on plasterboard, this material seems to take the edge off all types of saw, so will use an old Irwin jabsaw for those jobs! The scabbard is dead handy as it saves nicking your fingers everytime you are rummaging in the toolbox! Overall a good buy.
Really handy piece of kit. I am a sparky so use these quite a bit cutting out socket boxes. Its a lot safer than having a sharp saw lying in your tool box bearing its teeth just waiting to bite you when you are rummaging about in the bottom for something else. I was just the other day cutting out downlights in a ceiling full of kingspan and it gave me a really good chance to use the different angle setting on it for clearing enough space so the springs could catch properly. Good little piece of kit and I imagine it will last just as long as any other jab saw. Also amazon was the cheapest place I could find so well played!
