Awesome to have all the collection in one box set. The artwork in the book is excellent, bt having the discs in sleeves within the book is a bit poor. Would have hoped that there was at least an option to buy the cases for the movies to be stored in.
Will just need to take a lot more care when taking discs in and out and in how I store the box. 1 star removed for lack of cases, but the movies are 5 stars 🙂 uhd 1-6 is awesome. Not so keen on the later movies
**** I purchased a new QED Performance High speed cable, the one supplied with the Sony UPP-X800M2 could not keep up with the transfer speeds. *******
Now it’s as perfect as it can be
If you don’t already own these films ( digitally or in physical format) and you’ve enjoyed Star Wars over the years, this is a no brainer- 62.99 for the complete 9 film Skywalker saga , go for it – immerse yourself in that galaxy far, far away
Having bought the original “Box set” of the First 3 RELEASED movies, it became increasingly difficult / expensive to have an “up to date “box set” buying individual DVD’s to maintain the collection. Having bought this is can once again go thorough the movies in their “intended order” rather than their release order.
At some point i will probably have to invest in a “the Mandalorian” box set, but until then….
“in a DVD player far far away….”
Think you seen it all before 4k well think again this looks absolutely stunning. Star War fans need to see it at home just how it was seen in the movie theaters all these years ago, superb.
Bought this for my partner for Christmas and he loves them, watched them a few times now as i gave it to him before Xmas to try them out, good quality films
The 4K picture quality isn’t great across the board. They’re the worse for the Prequels. A New Hope looks amazing (when it’s not CG) and the Sequels being new of course looked the best. But it’s really the Dolby Atmos that’s my main draw. Star Wars has great sound design.
The only downside of this release is the missing original theatrical cuts of the first anf original trilogy. I don’t like the changed line in empire strikes back (when Darth Vader is leaving Lando’s city) and I HATE the line they put, again on Darth Vader in return of the Jedi (when emperor killing Luke). I HATE these 2 lines, the other additions, I don’t mind. But they sould remove these two. They messes the trilogy alot, in my opnion. GIVE US THE ORIGINAL THEATRICAL CUTS IN 4K NOW! DISNEY.
Have only had a chance to watch the first film and in 4k it is much improved in all respects on the original blu ray issue. Hopefully all other 4k discs will be of similar quality. My only real gripe so far is the poorly designed packaging for the discs . There are no removable sleeves and each disc is pushed into a tight fitting slot. It is impossible to remove any disc without contaminating it with fingerprints as it has to be gripped on both sides with fingers in order to extract it. This could result in playback issues so I would suggest a quick wipe off with a soft lint free cloth before loading into a blu ray player.
I use to love watching Star Wars when I was a kid, and I’ve probably not seen the original films in over 10 years, so I was excited to see that they’ve brought out this collectors edition with all 9 movies in it, I’ve gone through the book where all the discs are and I’m loving the artwork and behind the scenes shots inside, I think the only downside is how the discs are in the book as they are just being held in by slip in parts which means the discs are constantly being moved along card when taking them out, but other than that the films are great and I love how they’ve displayed all of the films.
This box set of the Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Limited Edition was bought as a gift for a member of this reviewer’s family. The family member is a big Star Wars fan and has bought, or had bought for him, a number of Star Wars items through Amazon. This set brought no disappointments. The box set arrived on time, was well-packaged, and was as the seller described. An excellent gift box.
The set as purchased was in 4K – in order to do justice to newly acquired TV and hi-fi equipment. As expected, it is reported that, even whilst the entire set of discs have not, as yet, been viewed, the picture clarity and depth, as well as the quality of the sound, made for an all-round satisfying viewing and listening experience. The extra expense of purchasing this version, with the added extras, of the item was well justified.
This Star Wars set is clearly a worthwhile addition to the growing catalogue of Star Wars productions and comes highly recommended for aficionados.
I bought the entire collection, because of the Death Star cover. It’s my most praised display 4K case, totally looks premium. That and for the original films to own on amazing 4K. The prequels are just meh, except Episode 3 which i like and the new Disney ones, which are total crapshit all 3 of them, but i got them anyway, even if i didn’t want them. As for video quality all of them, are absolutely amazing to watch. Perfect colours, depth, details everywhere. As for sound, what to say more, they are Star Wars films, just incredible. If you can afford it, a must buy for sure, for all true star wars fans.
For what you get for the price, the Blu-ray Box Set is the only one worth buying.
The DVD Box Set is simply the 9 movies in DVD with NO special features, and only 20 less than the Blu-ray Box Set.
The Blu-ray Box Set is the 9 movies in HD, plus 9 Discs of Special Features, also in HD. Discs are sensibly house in a 3 digipacks.
The 4K UHD Box Set is the 9 Movies in 4K UHD plus all the contents off the Blu-ray Box Set, unfortunately not all the movies have transferred well to 4K and the ‘Book’ had a tendacy to scratch the Discs and the discs are a pain to remove. And it’s around 100 more than the Bu-ray Box Set.
So but the Blu-ray Box Set and you will not be disapointed…oh and dont think you are just buying the same discs that have already been released, because you aren’t…all the discs are newly made for the Box Set.
I know the Star Wars franchise has had its ups and downs and caused a lot of discourse, but as a fan I love all the films despite some flaws and bought this box set as soon as I could. The box is beautiful, great quality and solid and the artwork in the sleeves is a beautiful touch. The discs aren’t in plastic sleeves or protection so I make sure to be very careful with them, there’s plenty of bonus features to get through and it’s nice to be able to experience the whole story whilst having the collection as a collectible. Looks brilliant on the shelf and a must have for any Star Wars fan!
Excellent collectors set. I have all the Star Wars films anyway even on VHS but had to get this 9 film 27 disc box set. The art work is amazing. 180 I payed for it, yes it pricey an they is a cheaper box set out there but if you are going to spend your hard earned coin then you may as-well go for the top dog!
Yes you can stream the films on Disney plus but me being an almighty sad Star Wars geek I prefer to physically ‘own’ a top piece of SW merchandise.
4K Blu-ray was invented for Star Wars so I don’t need to say anymore about the picture and sound quality.
This is the kind of item you will regret not buying in years to come when it is back on eBay for a stupid price
I finally got through this terrific bumper package o Star Wars movies and all I can say is it’s well worth the money there have also included some unseen gems of deleted scenes for example Vader and Luke and between Vader and moff jerjerrod its a shame George Lucas didn’t include these in the actually movie one downside is some of the extras included in previous collections for example the making of empire strikes back hosted by mark hamill I fortunately own that as I brought a previous collection which included the making of empire but please don’t call it the definitive collection if it’s missing stuff
Very well constructed packaging, even the way the outer spine works has been thought through and is very sturdy, to be safe I’ve removed the 4K discs and keeping them in a disc wallet, although I found their removal easier than others have mentioned and they are not scratched.
The 4K remasters of 4-6 are truly exceptional, some of the CGI on 1-3 doesn’t hold up too well on 4K but 7-9 as you’d expect are reference material for 4K.
Those that harp on about the “true originals” aren’t as knowledgeable as they like to think they are, as many aren’t aware that they were available on DVD several years ago, and are now available under the unofficial fan based versions called Despecialized versions, although these are true to the originals they don’t hold a candle to the wind visually compared to these official 4K remasters, if they have no interest in the Disney era of Starwars or no intention of buying these then why comment ? This is a review area for a product you don’t own, the clue is in the word review lol
I have always been a serious fan for all things Sc-Fi. IMHO, one the greatest Sc-Fi Movies ever made is “2001: A Space Odyssey” (Arthur C. Clarke — Stanley Kubrick). This Film is an amazing thought-provoking journey with equally amazing Visuals and Sounds, mindful its release was way back in 1968. In the mid 70’s, after watching this Film, I could not see how any subsequent film could ever compare with this Masterpiece. George Lucas changed all that in 1977 with the Release of Star Wars IV.
Although I was a bit slow getting onto the Star-Wars Bandwagon, I eventually purchased the Original Star Wars Trilogy on VHS videos. These were Great Movies, at the time. Then I went upmarket purchasing the Special Edition Trilogy on NTSC Laser-Disc with AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) which was Fantastic. Then I purchased both the Silver and Gold DVD Boxsets of the Special Edition Trilogy. Then I bought the 6 Movie Blu-Ray Boxset with Film Cell. Now I have the latest 4K Ultra HD HDR / HD / Bonus Discs Boxset featuring 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos.
Needless to say, I am somewhat obsessive, when it comes to watching / owning Star Wars Movies which produce the very best Audio-Visual experience available. This Boxset achieves the Very Best Audio-Visual Experience EVER. Although I enjoy the Prequel and Sequel Trilogies, my real love is for the Original Special Edition Trilogy. There is no doubt in my mind that this version of the Original Trilogy (Episode IV) transferred to 4K UHD/HDR is absolutely amazing for its clarity, colour and detail, on a movie which is over 40 years old. I have watched episodes I -IV with IV (The New Hope) being my favourite and can say that the Dolby Atmos Sound experience on these Movies, is absolutely Exceptional.
The Packaging is a very nice dual-slide opening outer box with a sort of black rubberise texture and a nicely printed “Death Star” on the front. The Hard Cover Book within is removed by using a silk type pull ribbon. The Book outer covers are steel ‘ish in colour featuring faux steel screws and Boldly Printed (Not Embossed), Centralised “STAR WARS” with “THE SKYWALKER SAGA” printed underneath. The Book itself consists of double thick Hard Card pages with nicely printed artwork scenes from each Movie. Each Right Page artwork scene has two pockets which hold the Scene-Movie appropriate 4K and HD Discs. The Bonus discs are stored similarly in the back Hard Card Pages which feature Black & White photos relating to the appropriate Movies. Also included is the Personal Message, on a semi- clear plastic letter from Mark Hamill, which is a nice touch.
There are things about this Collector’s Boxset that need to be mentioned. Firstly, although described as a Limited-Edition Boxset, there is no mention of how many Boxsets are being Produced & no LE Certificate. With further scrutiny, I see this Boxset is advertised as Limited Edition (Exclusive to Amazon) which I suppose is how Amazon can justify calling this a Limited Edition, which I feel is a little bit naughty & misleading. I believe Special Edition would have been a more appropriate description of this Boxset. Secondly, each of the discs are really tight in their own pockets and require considerable pulling force to extract. I use a Micro-Fibre Lens cleaning cloth when removing the discs so as to avoid leaving finger-thumb prints of the disc surfaces. I now leave this cloth inside the Presentation Case so it is always available when required. With time I’m sure this tightness will reduce but the Micro-Fibre cloth would still be required to remove the discs safely & cleanly. The Bonus discs I have watched, up to Episode IV, have audio which does not always play as it should. I have found that rewinding for a few seconds then playing sorts this out but is rather frustrating & annoying.
I purchased this Boxset primarily for the 4K UHD/HDR Formats and the Dolby Atmos audio. It would have been nice to include a Separate disc detailing the Technical Processes for Transferring these 9 Movies onto the 4K Format. Similarly, it would have been nice to have seen the inclusion of the Sequel Trilogy 3D Discs. It is strange that Film Studios are still producing 3D Movies but the equipment Manufactures are no longer supporting 3D (TV’s & Blu-Ray Players). Passive 3D “Out of Screen” experience on a 4K television is Visually just amazing. It wouldn’t surprise me if Disney decided to give Episodes I — VI the 3D treatment and produce another Boxset including the existing 3D Episodes VII — IX. As an aside, It is my view that not including the Standalone Movies, “Solo” and “Rogue One” with “The Skywalker Saga” Boxset, was the right and proper decision.
Bottom Line, this is a really nice Collectors Boxset (albeit expensive), with the 4K Visuals and Dolby Atmos immersive Audio being Fabulous, making this a must have addition to any Die-Hard “Star-Wars” Collection.
Really like how well packaged the box set is in comparison to the previous 2011 release. While not much of an upgrade if you already have the previous box set, the color grading is different for the Original Trilogy in this set. More in line with Disney’s recent releases of the older movies.
Removed a star due to the drop in price only a few days after release. A drop in price weeks or months later is fine but it’s not even been a week. And while it didnt’t drop much, when you factor in currency exchnage rate, I should have not pre ordered and waited.
Unlike most reviewers on here, I am not going to use this as an opportunity to have a rant about JJ Abrams or Disney or the lack of Theatrical versions. This is a review of the actual product.
This is a beautifully presented collection of all the main films in the Star Wars series and associated bonus material. It comes in a well designed case which slides apart to reveal a large format book full of amazing production paintings by the incredible artists who created the look of the Star Wars universe. The discs are set into slots in the heavy card pages and although difficult to remove, seem to be safely stored.
The films are in both 4K and standard Blu-ray versions and have one disc of bonus features per film. The films all look stunning in 4K although the digital CGI effects look a little dated.
It would have been nice to have Rogue One and Solo included in this set, but I am happy to have just the main Saga films included.
I have only one criticism which is why only 4 stars. How come there is no audio commentary and no deleted scenes on “The Rise of Skywalker”? Does this mean in six months or so there will be another release of TROS with those included? Probably, and I’m sure if there is I will be buying it!!
The box isn’t too big, so it can fit nice on a shelf and the art work inside is beautiful. The way the discs are stored is rather iffy, but this can be easily fixed by storing the discs in synthetic sleeves and sliding them in the box.
The movies have both improved and suffered with the 4K transfers. Black levels are pitch black and the oversaturation of some films have been fixed. However not every shot is as sharp as new movies, but you have to take in account that these are old films.
Overal, I’m very satisfied with this box set and it’s the current best way to watch these movies over and over again.
I’ve waited years for all of the (nearly) SW releases to be housed together and am happy with this boxset due to the 4K mostly: I would have opted for a cheaper version if this was BluRay only, etc.
My purchase was reluctant due to how the discs are contained and I was correct to be: I removed them all carefully just once to place in protective sleeves…
ALL except two discs now have a straight scratch on them and I’m not even surprised: Why, why, why package them this way?
I gave 4 stars instead of five because of this design flaw and am very nervous about the discs playing satisfactorily. Again, I’m now reluctant to try!
For people who don’t already own the films this is a real treat, but I find it hard to actually recommend this item when now I’m expecting playback issues.
The box is beautiful, the presentation is beautiful, and the films look beautiful. I haven’t got started on the bonus material yet but it looks pretty exhaustive.
Yes, it would be a dream to have some HD versions of the original presentations alongside the special editions, but we don’t seem to be getting those and the films are not ruined, as drama queens suggest. One just had to play the sabacc cards they’re dealt with, y’know.
I love the original trilogy, because I’m a human being with a beating heart. I also love the sequels, The Last Jedi in particular. The prequels have their moments, too. You see how pleasant it is to live in the world when you do what you can to enjoy it?
Star Wars is great and these 4k versions look amazing.
If you already own them all on Blu-ray, there really is not much difference between the 4K versions. The original trilogy (4,5,6) & the newer ones (7,8,9) look great in Blu-ray & even better in 4K, but the prequels (1,2,3) don’t benefit from either in my opinion. The box itself brings 27 discs in a great looking set. 9 4K, 9 Blu-ray & 9 bonus Blu-ray for all movies in an excellent book like case which stores all the discs. I’ve a love for Star Wars since childhood & have been waiting for such a set which seems like forever! So my review is mostly for the same fans out there. If you have the means to splash a little cash for this set (before it skyrockets in price) go for it! But for those who can’t, don’t worry, there are cheaper versions out there in Blu-ray & in DVD that are affordable. Because of its price tag, this particular set is recommended for die hard fans. In the end, the timeless Skywalker saga, now complete, will please fans old & new for generations to come. Happy viewing!
I’m just really happy to finally own the entire Skywalker Saga in one set.
The Box Set is a really nice put together limited edition collector’s piece.
Disc storage issues aside, the boxset is large and sturdy, it includes beautiful artwork in a giant photo album form with the discs slipping into the top of each page. You also get a letter from Mark Hamill which is nice.
The 4k image quality on the first 6 episodes while not out of this world is an excellent transfer and the best the films have ever looked in my opinion. The sound quality is amazing too and adds to the whole updated experience.
Episodes 7 8 9 are amazing in both image and audio quality.
Extras, while some are missing from previous releases there is still plenty of stuff here that covers all the movies.
All title screens on each disc have been updated too and look beautiful.
This is really the best the skywalker saga as ever looked and sounded. 9/10 from me.
Buy Buy Buy and May the force be with you.
I purchased the Blu-Ray boxset first before I buy the 4K book/boxset as I wanted both on my self. Taken from a new 4K scan all I can say is WOW! I have the Team Negative One 4K project blu-ray version as well as the 2011 boxset but nothing comes close to the detail on these new 2020 blu-rays. I do prefer the Special Edition due to the new SFX. I have the Harmy and Team Negative One Grindhouse versions with the original SFX and all I can say about people wanted the original prints released is ….NO. The SFX on the original versions have dated badly. Stick with these new 2020 prints, they are AMAZING.
I won’t talk about the films because we’ve all seen them. I pre-ordered this luckily on the 23rd Dec for 180 so I got this cheaper.yaayy. Great presentation. Very strong sturdy box. Lovely art work. Yes bonus features are what are previously on the Blu-ray boxset but we bought this because we love Star Wars and wanted a 2k-4k viewing experience in dolby surround sound and what you get is the best possible image depending on the condition of the original 35mm or digital masters and that’s what you get but if your watching these on a decent Samsung 4k Premium tv or a premium Oled screen with a very good 5.1.2 or 7.1 or 7.2.4 or and 5.1.4 dolby atmos/ dts HD set up your going to fully appreciate the video/audio upgrade. Great boxset for the money.
Great packaging, good to see the 20th Century Fox fanfare back at the start of the first 6 films, some new extras added to the collection, unlike the menchildren crying over the fact the sequel trilogy didn’t recapture their childhood (nothing will, it’s in the past), I will not slate anything, this is Star Wars, the Original Trilogy truly look stunning in 4K, full credit goes to the Lucasfilm transfer team for the work done on the 4k conversions, gone is the magenta tint, so the colours are more natural than previous editions (dvd & br), the prequels with their soft focus don’t really measure up to the other 6 films 4K HDR.
Overall, if you are a collector that isnt a spoilt brat manbaby spitting his dummy out because Disney ruined your childhood, then this is a welcome addition to your collection.
To the menchildren, guess what, your childhood is still there, no one ruined it, the only thing that ruined Star Wars is your toxic fandom, grow up, get a woman and become an adult. Live long and Prosper manbabies
I’m not just Giving the Boxset a 5 Star Review but Also I was Actually messaged from the Driver who Told me where he was and then he would give my Mother or myself a chance to get to the door before walking away as we are Both Disabled and we live on 2 separate floors of the Same House and he waited and my Mother beat me to the Door but the Driver Waited. Which was Fantastic for me as we live on the Main street and i don’t know Everyone in my Village but i don’t want to take the chance and have a Parcel left on my Doorstep even with a note in the Window that Says that my Safe drop spot is the Spar shop next door.
Went out on a limb and bought the 4K box set before the reviews came in and so far I’m not disappointed. I thought the 2011 Complete Saga set was good but this knocks the spots off it.
I’ve only looked at the original three episodes so far (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi) but the increased level of detail is amazing. Colour timing is spot on and the HDR pass is subtle but another noticeable improvement over the older Blu-rays. In addition a lot of the old optical effects niggles (visible mattes, washed out colours) have been digitally corrected so there’s more consistency between live and special effects shots.
The original three episodes will always be my favourites and it’s great to see them looking so good but I can’t wait to see what the 4K HDR treatment has done for the newer prequels and sequels.
Would recommend for any Star Wars fan.
Having been a Star Wars fan from since I was a kid, I was really excited to find out about the fact that all 9 movies would be coming as a single Limited box set.
Initially, I was just going to get the standard Blu-Ray version, but I then decided to go with the 4K Boxset, for a couple of reasons.
A) Because of the ability to watch all the movies in 4k
B) Because it also comes with Behind-The-Scenes Discs for every single movie
C) Because of the beautiful artbook that is exclusive with this set (P.S. The Concept Art used as the artwork for each movie in the book is my favourite part about this entire set)
D) Because of the lovely letter from Mark Hamill that comes with this as well.
And I can say it’s well worth the purchase for any Star Wars fan.
I don’t really understand why there is so many negative reviews, although it could be just the people who hate the Disney movies (which I don’t really get but that’s a different conversation) review-bombing this.
I think this is a great thing to have because of all the movies that are offered in this, plus the extras.
If you have money to spare, I say go for it!
I pre-ordered my copy of this the moment it became available – on Christmas Day, 2019. I had just gone to see Episode 9 at the cinema, the previous day.
First of all, why have there been reviews of this boxed set posted here before today – the day when it actually released?
I received my set this morning, so now that I have it in my hands, I can actually post a review.
I watched Star Wars (or Episode 4, or A New Hope) today just to compare with previous versions.
So this is the first time I have ever seen this movie in native 4K with HDR. Player states “2160p 60hz HDR (PQ)”. 2160 pixel per sq.in. 60 frames per second. High Dynamic Range enhanced for Picture Quality.
It really makes a difference. The Blu-ray version would upscale into 4K with Standard Dynamic Range, but this new transfer is something very special. The picture clarity is astonishing, and there is clear improvement in contrast and colour depth. I can make out things in shadows which I had never noticed before, despite probably seeing this particular film a hundred times.
Add in a new Atmos soundtrack too, and this movie which is now 43 years old, looks and sounds better than ever.
It really is like seeing it for the first time. All over again.
This experience is the sole reason I bought a Home Cinema setup to begin with. I watched “A New Hope” just now, with full modern video remaster, on a projector screen eighty inches across. I can see picture detail I have never noticed before. I can also clearly hear (and understand) dialogue that was previously just muffled background noise.
The laser blasts bouncing around the trash-compactor sound great on a decent home cinema setup.
The speeder bike chase in “Return of the Jedi” is better than ever, – sharp, clear, no blurring, and a real sense of speed.
And as for the “Maclunkey” issue – when I first heard about this, my thoughts were “what are you talking about?”
But it seems that this strange word was put in, to replace a half-second frame of Greedo attempting to shoot Han Solo. Now Han shoots Greedo again, without Greedo shooting back. To me this is a good thing – a man sent by a gangster to collect a debt would not kill the debtor, not without gaining the extreme disfavour of his gangster boss. To me, Greedo shooting Han just made no sense, so I am glad they removed it.
People who are complaining that they wanted the Non-Special-Edition versions can watch them on videocassette (but they won’t be anywhere as good as this set is). These films are not public property – at the time George Lucas owned them, and was entitled to edit them however he saw fit. George Lucas’ view was that “technology has now caught up to the point where I finally make the movie I wanted to make in 1977”. These are the finished versions of these movies that the filmmakers actually wanted to make, and wanted us to see.
And in a beautiful presentation box as well.
However, the way in which the discs are packaged makes them very susceptible to fingerprints. I am very careful not to get any scratches on them, but in hindsight – perhaps plastic clip cases would have been better than these tight cardboard sleeves.
I thought there was a documentary called “Empire of Dreams” but I cannot find it in this set. But I cannot find that documentary in the previous boxed set either (the Blu-ray box with six films in it, released in 2001). All of the bonus features in that 2001 set are present here in this box, and a lot more goodies besides.
So, to sum up – this particular box is the main reason I own a home cinema setup, which has probably cost a few thousand pounds.
And after what I saw tonight – it is totally worth it.
