The Steinel Multi-Lens
The reach of the sensor is adjustable to max. 12 m. Additionally, the detection zone can be reduced and adapted to the specific conditions by fitting the provided lens covers.
The Pyro Sensor
This electric module reacts as soon as the infrared thermal radiation within the detection zone changes. This causes a voltage jump which is then converted into an electronic impulse, which switches the light on or off.
Heat Radiation
Due to their body temperature humans radiate heat. Infrared technology uses this radiation to detect motion and to react accordingly.
Reach
The reach of infrared sensors depends on the direction of movement. With tangential movements (parallel to the sensor) the reach is about 12 m on average, which is shortened when moving directly towards the sensor (radial movement). To attain the maximum reach the optimal mounting height of 2 m should be given.

Bought to replace old one same make would recommend old one lasted 10 years
Expensive but does what it is supposed to do. Been p more than a year with no problem. The expense will be justified if it lasts a few years. Mounting on a wall corner works well in my locatio
Perfect control to lighting up my garden.
I thought i was goung to need two PIR sensors at either end of a passage way, however this was perfect giving a broad 270 detection area from either end of the passage way. So it saved on me needing another PIR and also less hassel to install as only need to wire up this one sensor.
Item is well built and solid. Been installed for about two months now and no problems. You get what you pay for and im glad i paid that little bit more.
Easy and flexible mounting options. As per all PIRs, wildlife will set it off. Only gave 4 stars because it’s quite expensive, but hoping that will mean years of trouble-free operation – only time will tell!
Excellent PIR. This was bought to replace a 15 pound PIR which was very insensitive. Many years ago i only ever fitted Steinel PIRs and this reminded me why. It is very compact but with sufficient space for wiring etc. Great that time and lux sensors can be adjusted with fingers rather than small screwdriver. Wiring needs attention as colours take a little getting used to.
My particular purchase was misssing the bezel that covers the adjustment controls, however this was replaced next day by Amazon.
Everything about this is very good. BUT getting access for the wiring is tricky when installing on a rendered corner as the metal angle bead will be tricky to drill through. The product needs to be rethought to allow wires to be brought in easily from the bottom and rubber grommets supplied to keep out damp
Bought a quite expensive security lantern, wrongly assuming that it would contain a decent sensor. After much adjustment, admitted defeat and bought this separate sensor. Never fails and has an excellent range!
Works well and fairly easy to fit. Terminals were a bit small for the existing cable but managed to fit as a replacement for a detector which would not support low energy LED floodlights; this one is fine with two 20w LED lights.
Bought one of these sensor’s for my house six years ago on recommendation by my electrician and its still working fine so just purchased another for my new shed a top quality reliable senso
Excellent bit of kit, I would say Steinel IS 240 DUO black – motion detector with 240 angle is the best on the market don’t bother buying anything else, we’ve tried them and nothing but trouble.
Used other types which let me down came across this make and model, good reviews and purchased this model. Has not let me down always works. Would buy another one a bit expensive but well worth it.
Bought this to control our rear garden lamp, works perfectly. Picks up any person leaving either our kitchen or patio doors which are on the same wall that this is mounted on, so it certainly provides more than 180 Deg of view.
Once safely installed – always a fiddle with steps and getting the wiring through – this sensor has performed perfectly. As it senses movement as well as infrared changes it operates the security lights when others are blind. Here’s hoping the quality means a long life and no replacement needed.
Does what it claims – in my case detecting movement at night to turn on an external light. Bought to replace the same item that had broken down, so not sure that is robust long term.
