I used this on basswood and finishing some oak I was working so I got to use both hard and soft wood blades. Ok as for the photo you can see the hard wood performance. Hardwood blade edges grip well and cut quickly for the initial bedding cut. The soft wood is the same and was precise enough to shave off 1mm wide slices from basswood.
The blade is precise and flexible enough to bend against your base wood for cutting dowels etc and flex back.
Please bear in mind this can cut fairly slowly if your used to using push saws but the cut is so much smoother you barely need to sand it.
First time I’ve used a pull saw (cuts on the back stroke not the forward one) and although the blade is thin it is very effective on both soft wood and hard wood. Its not a tool I use every day but at the price it there when an accurate cut is called for.
Very sharp saw with a fine flexible blade, a true flush cut saw which leaves a clean cu
Flexible, lightweight and yet strong enough to cut the wood in difficult plac3s to reach for smooth surface finish. A great item for my tool box
This is the first Japanese style saw I’ve owned. The blade is very flexible and efficient. It produces a very clean cut and with a little practice is accurate when cutting thin strips. Remember this saw cuts when pulling back rather than pushing forward. Very nice tool.
super lightweight and flexible blade but delivers fast and reliable cutting leaving behind a very smooth edge. great bit of kit.
Works ok but I bit flimsy not sure if it’s supposed be like that as I’ve never used one before. You have 2 separate cuts on each side
I bought this saw to use on a workbench I am building, it worked brilliant to flush trim some oak dowels used to fix the bench top.
I like the fact this saw has dual use ie. One side for softwood and the other side for hardwoods.
It is sharp and I would highly recommend this product.
The lack of any set to the teeth means this allow you to cut dowels etc flush to a surface without marking it. Then again, if you are looking at flush-cut saws then you probably already knew that! This does the job great, plus the thin plate is extremely flexible for getting into tight spaces. Excellent.
I don’t often leave reviews but had to say something about this little gem.
I am using this to cut joints in 50 year old oak floorboards, which is really hard, and the cuts are dead on straight.
Hints.
Before you use watch lots of videos on YouTube about pull saws.
Practice on some scrap wood
Go slow to start with and you will soon speed up.
Small but grea
If we valued tools by their weight, then this would probably be the most expensive hand tool in my workshop, but to me it’s worth more than it’s weight in gold! It was my introduction to Japanese saws which cut on the pull rather than the push stroke and I would never go back to Western saws again. This little saw is one of my favourite tools. It’s sharp and accurate and its flexible blade means it can go where other saws can’t without leaving a mark on the workpiece. Trimming dowels, fine tuning cuts made with bigger saws, and tidying up joints and end cuts are just some of the uses I’ve put it to. its double edged blade deals equally well with both hard and soft woods. I don’t know how this Suizan saw compares to equivalent saws from other Japanese makers, but as far as I’m concerned I can’t see how this could be bettered.
Absolutely love this saw. I will be buying a bigger version at some point. This cuts and leaves a smooth edge, it’s very precise and no messy shavings, just a bit of dust when soft wood is cut. So far I’ve built ceiling to floor clothes hangers with shelves and a 4 tier shelf unit for my games consoles using just this saw. It’s so easy to use. I find this type of saw a bit expensive but in comparison to other models out there this is value for your money. My only gripe would be the flimsyness of the blade, which I know it has to be, but I have almost snapped it once or twice. If you are into a bit of DIY woodworking then this is a must have for your tool box..
I’m a luthier and always on the lookout for quality tools to make life easier. This flush cut saw is brilliant. Razor sharp and super accurate fine cut. The super flexible blade makes the toughest cuts possible
Cuts through pine with ease, leaving a better finish then my other small saws. Blade has different teeth on each side, one for hard and one for soft wood. Only downside I found is that the metal bends too easily, need to bend it back straight a lot. Overall I’m happy for the performance and price
Very easy to use, cuts through 18mm pine floor boards like a hot knife through butter. Keep it in the packaging as the teeth are very fine and would be easily damaged if you threw it in a toolbox along with everything else.
This little saw is as it says in its name, a “flush cut saw”. It cuts things flush. Like plugs, dowels, or when you need to cut something flush to an angle. It’s not something that should be used to cut posts or huge boards!!
Well worth the money, well built and does exactly what it’s supposed to do!
This was much smaller than I anticipated but that was my own fault for not checking. However, using this saw has made cutting smaller bits of wood & tidying up edges so much easier. It is very flexible which is both good and bad but take extra care & it should be ok. It is overly expensive for what it is, especially when the larger Japanese saws are available for almost the same price.
Bought this to cut some plastic / perspex sheet. So got this as it had two different saw blades.
It was great for cutting the plastic sheet, 5mm, and gave such a fine straight cut that I didn’t even need to sand the edges afterwards.
The blade is quite flexible though, so care is needed to apply only gentle pressure when sawing or the blade will buckle. But this is by design and give you options to cut on flush surfaces.
Its a good saw and I’d recommend.
I have never used a Chinese saw before and when it arrived it seemed very flimsy, however, this is an AMAZING saw! Hardwood side cut through a piece of reclaimed Ebony with no problem!
Note to self: keep fingers well away, also slice my fingertip like a paper cut!! – the blade doesn’t need any guiding, it works like magic and keeps a very straight cut!
Easy to use.
This is an excellent little saw, well crafted. Mine came as pictured with wooden handle.
As others have said, it’s small and for fine work, small scale finishing, eg. Trimming edges flush on small boxes.
It cuts on the pull and as stated you use it gently, trying to give it Welly or force the cut will likely lead to damage of saw or a sliced finger as it’s very sharp. You just let it do the work, not much elbow required.
Would certainly recommend ,, for appropriate small craft uses.
Very sharp, and ideal for it’s stated use of cutting ends flush – but as it is a very fine kerf, you do need to gently rest a finger on top whilst sawing in order to avoid any kink from the blade – excellent results yielded when care taken HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
It’s not a sturdy or particularly well built tool in my opinion but is a very handy finishing tool for jobs like cutting off dowels or screw hole plugs. Maybe a little pricey for what it is. Not as big as you would expect but that’s kind of helpful precision wise. Good to have in the arsenal anyway.
