We use this camera as a deterrent rather than as a part of a security system. It’s great value. and does the job well. Rather than drill holes and add cable, I use this inside, looking out of the window. The motion detection is a bit variable, but the night vision is good. In terms of value, it’s bang on, although the price does seem to vary on Amazon.
For those on a budget, this is an unbelievable value. It has all the basic bells and whistles – motion detection so it isn’t constantly running, night vision, it’s waterproof – all you could realistically want from a stand alone security camera. The picture quality is just fine. Maybe not as crisp as some high end models but for under 40 this is way more than you would probably expect.
Nice enough camera but when they say the price was this or that, they are misleading you.
I paid under 17 for this – from Amazon in April 2023.
Amazon prices go up and down like a yo-yo not just on this camera but on so may things.
Just watch yourselves people.
This is a great security camera overall and does its job perfectly for the likes of basic security.
It was nice and easy to set up and within minutes I was able to log on and take a look in our back yard.
We do own a much more intense cctv system and was hoping we could link this camera on to our other system but you cannot use it along with other different camera systems.
This camera is basically just a single unit and you use it on its own app and everything in which is not what we was hoping but for just general security on its own it serves that purpose perfectly.
The picture quality is fair and you can make out faces clearly if located in the correct place of course to achieve best video results.
The connection, we have not had any issues with at all and you are able to move the antennas to suit your connection and internet needs to ensure no connection loss during viewing etc.
the night vision is pretty clear and for using it just to guard our back door area and see our dogs in the yard it works a treat, I can even tell the dogs to stop barking via the two way audio it is capable of.
Overall it is a really good camera and does its job perfectly in my eyes.
I have used several cameras. This is quite satisfied: high definition, fast detection, good flood light, long cable.
Easy to use and set up this wireless
camera needs to be attached with screws and these are provided it was easy to angle to desired position. The instructions were easy to follow i’ve set this camera up at the back of the garden covering back door and window. The app notifies me of any movement you can also add a micro sd card if you wish to keep video record . so far i’ve had no issues with this camera and i’m pleased with the clear image .
Updated review : i recently added a micro sd card to my camera which is fairly cheap to purchase . Now my camera has playback and is on loop record so i don’t miss a thing and also i love that the timeline highlights any movement captured so you can go straight to the point to view. Also what i love about this camera is as soon as a movement is captured it takes a picture of it which your able to view and check
immediately this feature is useful as it saves you from paying for a subscription for this feature like with my other security camera this one does it for free. easier surveillance.
This was a cheap way to watch my dogs in the house when I’m out. With two way audio I can also talk to them as well.
Excellent high resolution outdoor camera, with motion detection. It works really well and is easy to install on your smartphone, the images are very clear, especially in the evening thanks to the lights that are activated in case of need, and not. let’s forget about 2K resolution. The only flaw is the power cord which is short enough for my parameters, I had to add an extension cord. But all in all it’s a really great product.
This camera will be used for the rear of the house. It works well although doesn’t move – the lens is fixed.
The camera was set up using the app Smart Life. This helps with compatibility as this app is widely used by many devices. Once installed, which was a fairly straightforward process that took about 5 minutes, the camera was given a very odd name, but the Smart Life app could then be used to view the camera. It has infrared or standard video modes, with or without spotlight. You can set the camera to flick between the viewing modes automatically, or you can select the modes yourself. The camera has a memory card slot that you can record your videos onto it, in either SD or HD resolution quality. You can also connect and take a snapshot or a video manually.
The motion detection works reasonable well and the audio recording seems OK too.
For the low price, I recommend it. It will help give piece of mind.
At the time of review at the beginning of February 2023 this SURFOU WIFI Security Camera is on special offer of 38.33 instead of the normal asking price of 49.99. So the special offer makes this camera a 4-star review. If however, it was full price, I would probably only give 3-stars, and here are my reasons why.
I’ve reviewed several brands and models of security cameras on Amazon, and the technology has improved significantly, yet the prices have also got more competitive. This SURFOU WIFI Camera doesn’t quite have the advanced features you would expect.
First the good features, it requires the TUYA app which is a common app for home WIFI gadgets, is easy to use, and is updated regularly. I have had camera that require other apps, that rarely get a refresh, so this is a great start. Because I had the TUYA app installed on my iPhone already for other gadgets I own, setting up this SURFOU camera was easy. To test the camera, I set it up on a wooden garden post, and fed the two metre USB cable to a outdoor plug socket. The camera instructions are easy to follow. It sends alerts promptly to TUYA, with little time lag (again, this is can be an issue with other cheap cameras).
Now the not so great features. The camera is static, there is no pan, zoom or tilt to this camera. It isn’t wireless, so you do need to install it near an electricity supply. The image quality I didn’t think was quite as crystal clear as I would hope, but that may in part be down to the WIFI router being a little bit too far from the camera. However, I am willing to be forgiving of some of the negatives, simply based on the price. If I wanted PZT, and solar power, and sharper images, I would probably have to pay 70+. So for the price, this is a good camera.
This camera is great if you want to keep an eye on what’s going on outside! We used it on a garden shed (which has power – although it says this is wireless it does still need an electric supply, and the cable supplied wasn’t long enough so we had to use a longer one). It looks the part – even if it wasn’t switched on it looks as though you have some surveillance going on.
For the price, currently 38.33, this is ok value for what you get, but I think there are better ones out there.
This is a basic security camera with 2-way audio and security light, which is ideal to monitor small areas where a PTZ camera is not required.
Set up was extremely straightforward using the Smart Life app on an Android device, I always set any devices up indoors near the router first, then move them to the intended installation location and check WiFi coverage before starting to drill permanently into the wall.
The WiFi reception is decent considering the number of walls between the router and the camera, and an old 64GB MicroSD card was quickly detected and is running smoothly and the footage quality is ideal for short-distance views.
The supplied USB power cable is a bit shy of 2 m in length, this can be limiting in certain setups, but longer replacement cables are available to purchase which can solve that problem.
At 38.33 and a 10% discount at the time of reviewing, this is a decent security camera that will do the job without any problems, would definitely recommend.
I have a few different security cameras around the garden and this one seems nothing special tbh for the price, The picture quality is decent tho and works well with the app control, I do think it is lacking a little with modern tech as it is not PTZ to move around etc, don’t make the mistake of thinking this battery powered as it is NOT, it is powered via USB which is nice to see so you could effectively use a good sized power bank if you are struggling to get mains power to it . I do think the USB cable could have been a bit longer as 2M is a bit short really. At 47.91 I just think there is better out there.
Really good value with this. Far cheaper than getting a company in & doing it that way
Pretty easy to setup & instructions were clear enough to follow without any major hiccups.
Build quality is good for the price & the picture quality is perfect for just having a little more security!
I already have 3 fully wireless, rechargeable battery type cameras (Techage and G-Homa branded) all linked to the VicoHome app and covering all areas except an alleyway between the garage and a high wall. Seeing this available and realising that it could be powered from the garage, I ordered it.
Set it up very easily in the house where it worked perfectly though was a bit frustrated that it could not be used with the VicoHome app and had to use Smart Life (or Tuya) though at least it can record to SD for free and you can view your camera and SD card recordings remotely at no charge.
APPS: I’ll come to the camera shortly but feel the ASSOCIATED APPS MAY BE IMPORTANT for many people and wish makers/sellers/advertisers would make clear which of the 4 main apps (or others) their cameras work with. It’s often difficult to find the information and could be a deciding factor. G-Homa (like many really a label rather than a make) has different cameras using 3 different apps – CloudEdge, VicoHome and Smart Life, so you’re not even safe keeping to one ‘brand’!
Comparing VicoHome and Smart Life, both have a learning curve and both work fine but I prefer VicoHome, which is also much cheaper to subscribe to for multiple cameras than Smart Life is for even a single camera. In addition, VicoHome provides 3 days/0.5GB of free cloud storage even if you don’t subscribe. Useful if someone steals your camera or SD card. I chose to pay 6.99 for 3 months of 15 day/3GB cloud storage for multiple devices (all sharing the 3GB) on ‘VicoHome Basic’ whereas ‘Smart Life’ is 3.69 per 1 month for 1 device or 7.99 per 1 month for 14 day recording of 3 devices. A 3-device annual plan on Smart Life is 79.99 (after initial discount of 25%) but is only 27.99 with VicoHome ‘Basic’ though you can choose to pay more for the ‘Plus’ or ‘Pro’ plans to get greater amounts of storage and longer retention times. Not sure if Smart Life has any limit on amount of data, just the duration.
CAMERA: Picture quality is very good. Being 2K it’s adequately sharp though not so good for facial details at a distance as a 4K picture would be, but you have to consider the price point. Night vision is good on both infra-red and white light/colour. Photos attached.
Inside the house it communicated with my smart phone via the app faultlessly thanks to a perfect WiFi signal. I’d already checked that one of my other cameras worked well at the intended site but this camera is not so great. Although it always reports between 62% and 74% signal strength, which sounds fine, it’s slow to connect then connection is frequently broken. Viewing live, it frequently stops, which may not be noticed if there’s no activity, apart from the time stopping, and if viewing SD card recordings remotely, you have to keep pressing play whenever it stops. So, it seems to need a better WiFi signal than my Techage and G-Homa cameras. Doubt if the app has any effect on the connection. Plan to use an old WiFi router that can be used as an extender to improve that.
In use, I’ve set the night vision to ‘Auto’ which means it uses infrared in the dark but switches to white light (good and bright) on detecting movement, which as well as maybe scaring off villains is a useful light at night when going to the bins that are kept there.
Put in an old 4GB micro-SD card and despite much playing about with it, only 0.1GB has been used in over a week. Even if there’s no WiFi connection, it does still record all activations to the card.
INSTALLATION: I planned to mount it on the weatherboarding with the camera pointing almost at right angles but the short-stemmed mounting provided prevented this. Photos attached. Fortunately, I had a compatible mounting for a solar panel that was perfect. Mounting it rotated 90 degrees would have meant the aerials being horizontal. Checked it worked using an extension lead and realised that the WiFi connection was not perfect, but acceptable. Wanted to use a convenient wall vent to feed the cable into the garage but the USB plug was too big for the holes. Not a problem, I thought, just cut off the plug and join it correctly to another USB cable and I happened to have a good quality cable with a damaged micro-USB end so cut if off and soldered the red to red and black to black then checked it – but it didn’t work! Had a look at the original plug and tested the wires: as well as the red and black power wires, the green and white ‘data’ wires were also used for power, the white positive and the green negative. Resoldered the red and white from the camera to the red from the repurposed USB lead and the black and green to the black. Success! Anyone needing to do this should first check that the wiring of their camera’s cable is the same.
Prior to wiring in I also tried using a ‘7500mAh’ powerbank (about 5000mAh at 5V as the stated capacity of power banks is at their battery voltage of 3.7V) but it lasted less than 12 hours overnight (not sure exactly how long). This camera uses 0.25-0.27A during the day and 0.45-0.50 A at night on infrared, increasing to 0.55-0.60A on white light so not suitable for an external battery except temporarily.
Overall, despite having to use Smart Life, I’m pleased with this camera and will be happier when the WiFi signal is improved. Its long-term reliability is obviously unknown but if it packs up after a year or two a similar replacement won’t break the bank.
Really happy with the quality!
This is a great camera— it’s easy to set up and has really clear pictures over long distances.
Lowlight and Night vision are surprisingly clear too.
The notifications are a great feature—gives me peace of mind when I’m away from the house—plus the option to talk through it is brilliant. No more missed deliveries!
Overall, I’d say this is a brilliant piece of kit for the price.
This is a reasonable quality WiFi security camera
easy to install
2 way audio
colour night vision
3 night vision modes for you to choose: infrared mode, full colour mode and smart mode
can be used with an SD card (not supplied)
waterproof
not wireless
picture quality isn’t the bes
It might be me misunderstanding the title/description but I was expecting a battery powered, wireless camera. This is not. It is wireless as in how it connects to your WiFi, but it is cable powered, so where you want it, bare in mind it’ll have a cable trailing and need a plug socket. You do get a USB cable and socket either this so that’s good.
Super easy install and set up, user friendly app. Picture quality is decent and it all seems to work as it should. States waterproof, and it has been tested and still works. Longevity is something I can’t comment on yet.
I’ve tried various security cameras over the years with an existing Eufy doorbell and Vicohome wireless installed so I was keen to try this ‘off-branded’ product and compare the results. I was set up and using the camera in minutes with impressive, responsive results. A star could be taken away for the misleading claim of being ‘wireless’ but the function proves smooth most importantly at this low price.
Features:
———–
There is no denying the security camera market has become flooded with new brands and cheap options similar to this which is not inherently a bad thing if they connect, respond and last to usual day standards. While being cheap, this security camera comes impressively equipped with all the essential features- 2k resolution, IP66 rating making this suitable for outdoors, night vision, 2-way audio, and full app control. In contrast to other cameras, this also has local SD card storage so you can skip all the cloud subscriptions and offerings entirely by choice!
Immediately, however, I was disappointed to discover this camera is not exactly “wireless”. Sure, the camera can connect wirelessly to the internet as most cameras should. But the camera itself is powered by a cord. This means you have to plug this with the attached USB wire into a nearby socket. Fortunately, the cable is 2 metres long and flat so it can be squeezed through doorways or hinges if needed and comes with a provided USB plug. I hope the description can be updated so this point is made clear as we all agree misleading claims are nothing but a serious annoyance for consumers.
Setup:
———
This proved to be the easiest camera setup to date! The camera provides a quick start-up guide and by following the brief instructions the camera was fully ready to go through the brilliant SmartLife app. I’ve talked enough about my being a huge fan of the Smart Life app that brings together countless smart devices sold on the market into one, seamless hub that works with all smart assistance like Google Home.
As shown, the app has a simple “add device” feature that allowed me to search for any nearby devices or select from a vast menu of devices. Once the device is selected, a QR code was presented that I simply held up to the camera and was shown the setup was completed.
Functionality:
—————-
For this total price, I am impressed to find everything I need is offered here through the app and camera. The camera shows clear 2k footage that is exactly the same as the other 2k footage found on my other security cameras. There is the option to turn on/off night mode and even heat mode, while still having the ability to have it turn on automatically when dark. You can hear audio loud and clear from the camera mic and equally talk through it when the mic button is pressed in the app. I was most impressed to find the input delay of the footage and action is minimal. I tested with a few motions, walking past, flinging my hands around, and noticed there was a maximum 1-second delay. Simultaneously, the motion notification showed up on my phone without any additional delay!
The SmartLife app offers the ability to extend the smartness of this camera through the shown conditional statements! For instance, I can have this turn on when there is sunset or vice versa, or motion is detected, I can turn on some other smart devices linked to the SmartLife app. This all adds a touch of genius to the whole function of the camera.
Storing footage could not have been made easier through the ability to add an SD card. Unfortunately, many companies have taken the subscription route where it has become increasingly difficult to store and hold local footage. This camera too much relief has an SD slot which in the app allows you to store footage. There is still the cloud option, of course, if you don’t mind paying an extra monthly fee to hold recorded footage.
The only doubt I’m having is about the durability of this camera. I’ve had a far pricier doorbell camera become faulty after being left exposed to Britain’s rainfall. I presume like most cameras, this would be far better protected with a little visor of some sort to avoid being penetrated by constant rainfall.
Conclusion:
————–
In all, I’m a happy customer of this ‘off-brand’ camera that delivers all the essential features at a low price. It’s a shame it’s not “wireless” like the title proclaims. At least in terms of features and functionality, this camera delivers great smoothness. The setup is straightforward and the control of the whole camera is made even better through the SmartLife app. The camera shows a sharp picture, motion detects responsively, records footage and sounds clear and works day and night without interruption. Best of all, the footage can be stored locally using an SD card.
The materials and quality of the manufacturing is decent and reasonable. Doesn’t feel on the cheaper side but I’m also a little sceptical on the IP rating as most of them usually state to place under a ledge or something to ‘expand lifespan’ of the product. I get that may not just be a way to cover themselves and will obviously extend the lifespan but always makes me a little sceptical.
The image this camera gives out is a reasonable quality. A bit better than 1080p but even 2k quality can be a little sketchy at being able to see faces and details clearly at distances. Not the highest MP at 4 but it’s better than the 2-3 average.
The cable length is decent but it’s actually short for my needs. I think it’s always better to have more cable than less if it’s hardwired.
A huge plus is that they provide a plug for the USB to go into though so at least it should be capable since it will be required to stay plugged in. Although this might change as a few ‘plugs’ I’ve had in the past weren’t very good and have popped or heated up to the point the plastic melts and were fire risks. So time will tell on this point.
Uses the typical Tuya or Smart Life app, depends on your perspective of these but both apps are fairly reasonable to use and have a good enough user interface to deal with. At least it’s not some proprietary app that isn’t at least somewhat tested and used by a lot of people.
Overall, at 49.99, it’s just another unbranded product that I don’t really have a lot of faith in a) lasting or b) causing more issues than the security it provides. I could be wrong but After reviewing a few of these it’s kind of tiring to see the market flooded by so many okay, but not great cameras. I always prefer to see competition in products instead of competition in companies and brands.
This is a very useful camera for outdoor monitoring. I got this for use in my garden for security but also to capture what goes on with the wildlife so we’ve since discovered all sorts of activity from foxes which we were unaware of!
This is very easy to install and can take a memory card. This will trigger when it detects movement so you can check back to those key moments rather than it just capturing everything over night.
Useful to have and great value at only 49.99 and I’ll be getting another for the front of the house as it’s very easy to operate. Recommended.
