Thames & Kosmos | 691806 | Kahuna | Who Will Rule The South Seas? | Strategic Game | 2 Players | Ages 10+
The Game Board
The game board depicts 12 islands of the South Seas, interconnected by dotted lines on which players build bridges with the goal of taking control of as many islands as possible. To stake your claim, you must place bridges on the majority of an island’s connecting lines, which in turn allows you to remove any bridges your opponent may have placed to or from that island.
The Game Components
Each player receives 25 Kahuna bridges to complete their goal of dominance in the island kingdom! When a player has gained control of an island, they place a Kahuna token on that island as a sign of power. The Island cards enable the players to build bridges–by playing a “Bari” card, for example, you can build a bridge from Bari to one of its adjacent islands.
Scoring
Three scoring rounds are played. When scoring takes place, you receive points if you have claimed more islands with Kahuna tokens than your opponent. And if you have more points than your opponent at the end of three rounds, you gain control of the whole island kingdom and win the game!

We love this 2 player game. Quick and easy to learn. Quick to get to the table. Takes about 20-30mins to play. Good quality components. Love it.
This is one of the most uniquely designed and well thought through games I’ve played yet! SIMPLE gameplay but DEEPLY strategic!
Gameplay gets quite heated as you realize your HUGE move may actually destabilize your entire strategy! Haha! Sweat & Stress scale is a 3.5/5 for me. (Netrunner being a 5/5 in my book)
4.5/5 in my book! Endless replay! Must have!
FAB strategy game for 2 player – Played it non-stop for a week it was so goooood!
This is a reasonably short game to play involving only 2 people. It’s fun, the rules are very easy to learn and the variation in the game is enough to keep you coming back again and again. Simply one of the best 2 person games I’ve ever played.
Good service, good game. As seen =)
Unfortunately the 1st one I received was missing some bits but without any fuss I was sent a new one out in the post straight away of reporting the problem, I’ve sent back the original one I received. Look forward to playing a few games =)
Kahuna was my best find this year in games. As a 2-player game, it is succinct, easy to learn, and plays on a strategy that is unique. One move can undo another player’s advantage. The game plays out in less than 30 minutes, so it is a perfect game to play while dinner is in the oven.
The game itself is simple and a lot of fun but it can become quickly complex. I would not characterize this game as particularly relaxing. The built quality is great. I specially like the wooden pieces.
Es super divertido, dura poco tiempo y eso hace que puedas jugarlo varias veces o hagas “la reta”con tu familia.
El material de calidad y el envo fue rpido
Fairly easy to learn the mechanics of playing but the strategy is very tricky indeed. Sort of a combination of Risk and a card game using the strategy of a chess game.
Excellent two-player strategy game.
Reasonably easy and quick to learn, game time good as lasts between 25 mins and 1 hour so not too long.
Very good quality pieces and board
For less than 13$ this was a steal.
Great 2 player game, more strategy than luck, easy to learn and 30 minutes roughly of game time. It’s kind of an abstract strategy game, where you are vying for control of an archipelago against your opponent. Definitely in my top 5 two-player games.
Bought this game for my husband and I to play. We love it. We play it in the evenings after the kids go to bed. It is quick to learn how to play. Game only lasts about 30 minutes. Very must like Settlers of Katan but for 2 players and must faster.
Lots of fun for two. Easy to learn. Even if losing after 2 rounds there’s still a chance to win in 3rd round so keeps things interesting. Lent it to friends, they also liked and then bought their own.
I like it for its play, the small package, and short gameplay. We bring this with us when we know we’ll be waiting 30 minutes or so for something, and it’s a good way to spend time. It’s sort of like Catan, but just enough different to be a nice game upon itself.
A strategy game that makes your brain work harder – perfect for those who like chess or computer programming. Uses the same muscles.
Great two player game. Very simple to play but nice and strategic.
Great game to play to 30-45 minutes for 1 on 1 time, as it is only 2 players. Age is about 9 and up. Strategy is required, not just random luck of the draw. I play with both my 13 yr old and 10 yr old. 10 yr is starting to get it but hasn’t won yet and views it as a challenge to beat me, where as my 13 yr can win sometimes. (I don’t throw the game….) Highly recommended.
My 10-yo daughter and I are both avid gamers; my wife, not so much. Daughter and I enjoy lots of games together that 2 can play – Monopoly, Skip Bo, Set, Battleship, and the like – and we “make do” with other games (like Munchkin) where we use stuffed animals as other players (and play FOR them, natch). I was looking for a good strategy game for ONLY two and happened upon this over the holidays. It’s a deceptively simple game: play cards to build (or destroy) bridges between islands, with three scoring rounds; generally, the person who controls the most islands at the end of the game is the winner. LOTS of strategy involved, though, so the game is a good teacher for more advanced things like Axis & Allies. Overall it’s quite fun and addictive, with each game taking around 30 – 40 minutes. I like the size, also: as a “square-box” game, it’s about half the size of Trivial Pursuit or Catan, which makes it rather easy to transport.
I have a fondness for quick 2-player games. Kahuna definitely hits a sweet spot for me. It’s quick to set up and take down, and doesn’t take up too much space either on the table or on the shelf. It’s easy to teach with simple but elegant rules. The object of the game is to claim islands by building the majority of the bridges to the islands. Your control over an island can be lost when your opponent claims an adjacent island, which can often cause a chain reaction.
The game plays quickly – there isn’t much room for analysis paralysis here. There can be but most of the time, either opponent is likely eager to see what the next move will be so turns move quickly. Competition is rather intense. Once you lose majority over an island, you quickly strategize on how to either exact revenge by removing your opponent’s claim on islands or securing your own claim on either islands. I’ve found, however, that once I start losing claim, I never can really recover (I may just not be good at this game)
Overall, it’s definitely a great addition for collector’s of two player games.
I bought this and another game from the same maker for my boyfriend and I to have time together away from the screens. It is easy to learn and play and pretty entertaining. I gave it only 4 stars because I’ve become a little bored of playing it and I’m not really bored of the other one (lost cities). My boyfriend isn’t bored of either. We’ve since picked up a couple more 2 player games because this really got us into the whole board game idea.
A fairly quick 2 player strategy game in which players have to control as many islands as possible after three scoring rounds. Very simple game to get the hang of, however it would take many plays to become adept at all the little strategies in order to continually win. There is a fair bit of luck involved as to what cards you hold or turn up on your turn, but mostly it comes down to planning moves ahead. A good game but not one I’d often be reaching for off the shelf.
Sin duda uno de los mejores juegos que he probado para dos personas, a simple vista parece sencillo, sin embargo al momento de jugar te das cuentas que requieres toda tu atencin y por lo tanto el nivel de competencia es elevado, sin duda un excelente y retador juego
This is a different kind of game. It’s small and relatively simple. Good for two people. You build bridges and try and take over islands. When you have a majority of bridges on the island, you can place your kahuna there, which takes off all the other person’s bridges. You try and control as many islands as possible.
This game is different and pretty fun. Probably my biggest issue with it is that once you are behind it gets really hard to catch up. Still, the game isn’t that long so you don’t feel terrible when you lose.
The perfect mixture between simplicity and complexity. This game is so easy to get in to but has plenty of forward thinking depth, making every turn count. I rank this alongside chess as tactical 2 player games go.
Very Fun to play. I have played it 5 times and each time i have a different experience. trying new strategies but there is a heavy dose of luck as well. Great for couples because it can be as light as you want or as in-depth as you want. Great game!
This is just a lot of fun. I first got hooked on the iPhone app version and had to get the real board game. The key to this game is managing your cards well and always thinking a few steps ahead. It comes in a small box and stores easily on a shelf. The rules are very simple, but there is a surprising amount of depth here. The game board is attractive and the South Pacific theme is always a winner.
