This has beenuch hyped in the media so I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.. I have never the game but I thought the series stood on it’s own. The background material was also enlightening.
This version is great quality and comes in a stunning metallic case. Very impressed!
If you’ve not played the games that’s fine you’re not missing anything in terms of story. It’s brilliant as I’d expect. Having played the games it’s impressive how well they’ve transferred over to a tv show. Some creative decisions different to what’s in the game I thought were fair and decent. Nice cameo appearance from some game cast. Highly recommend. This also features video documentaries on the making of each episode.
I can now say, after viewing this fantastic series that I should not have worried.
First of all the music is by the same person who did the music for the game which is very important. Key scenes from the game play out exactly like the game with that incredible score.
Yes there are some changes but these are for the better. Some characters are more fleshed out as well. Most notably Bill & Frank in Episode 3.
The casting is perfect especially for the two main roles of Joel & Ellie.
Fans of the game will need to look out for the original cast in some different roles as well!
Now we just have to wait for season 2!
In the meantime if you are a gamer and have never played the game, you owe it to yourself to do so!
I gave 4 stars because I thought there was a blu ray version in the collection but it’s only 4k blu ray, but the show is top notch and this steelbook is gorgeous
Very well acted very similar to the PlayStations game the last of us part 1 part 2 PlayStation was great too so the next season may look a bit like that love the two actors I remember them in game of thrones great fast post too
Still a great show.
Wont comment on the series, i found it to be almost flawless, cant wait for season two, people will be shocked! Now to binge this again in 4k, dolby vision, on huge oled played on a panasonic 820. Perfection! 🙂
While this set does include the 4K discs, the standard blu ray discs are not included as previously advertised and shown to be included on the J card, however despite this, it’s still a nice piece for collectors
Great series based on even greater games . A must watch for genre fans
edit: After watching again just wanted to add this thought. I’ m fed by artificial nutrition and I know how much ‘ food ‘ it takes everyday to keep me alive, how on earth did these two survive on beef jerky and carbohydrate biscuits with the odd meal thrown in???!!!. Plus when did Joel have the time to maintain his moustache and beard. Just saying. Still absolutely love it. 5 star. Yet to meet anyone who hasn’t loved it.
The series is an improvement on an already great story and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
The conversion into a series for TV was carried out by the creator of the game and Craig Mazin, the award winning screenwriter for Chernobyl. The result is unlike any prior translations from games to the screen, such as Mortal Combat with thin storylines and a means to simply make money. Here you have people who love the game, love the characters in the game and love the world.
The series does not tread the standard Zombie series, it takes inspiration from Nature and uses something that already exists and adds a ‘what if?’. This makes it even more terrifying when you watch a a nature documentary on the said ‘thing’ afterwards.
(trying to keep it as spoiler free as possible) You follow two main protagonists, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) making their way across the US. Their performances are Emmy award-winning. Each episodes brings you further into the world where choices are made and decisions you may be wondering “would I have done that?”. It has been a long, long time since I can remember seeing something that did not keep the same old trodden path like this.
There are changes (gameplay & TV narratives are different entities) but they are always for the better. I can’t wait for part 2.
