I bought this when I had a full fibre to the premises internet connection installed. My old router had all 4 ports in use and the new one also had 4 but needed one for the incoming connection. The switch allows me to split one port and I used it for my TV and my digital video recorder as they would not both need bandwidth at the same time.
I already owned one of these from a year or so ago, I changed some of the wiring and needed a second one so this was an obvious choice. The price is great, performance is great and I have never had an issue with one failing etc.
Would absolutely recommend.
If you need a dumb-switch, with gigabit ports, you cannot pass up this unit. Powered by a micro-USB port, it can go almost anywhere. I have mine stuck to the back of my media unit. It happily lets TV, PlayStation, Set Top Box, and other devices connect to the network with no issues.
Because it is unmanaged, it is the definition of plug-and-play.
100% recommend.
The switch is very simplistic with no management but this is all I needed. I wanted to expand my network and this little switch did that. I am surprised at the quality of the product for such a reasonable price. I have brought one of these before and it has not let me down. I just put 1 link in to my network in port 1 and then let the switch do the rest. This is great for giving you more ports and possibly you might get on a router from an ISP
Upgraded from a 5 port to an 8 port. Nice compact size, only used it for a couple of days, will fully test out shortly under full network usage. Was slow on dispatch, arrived a week after placing order.
used to connect 2 pc’s and 3 xbox upstairs all wor fine.
arrived well packages the cables had no excess flash and were neatly coiled. The connectors were securely molded on and are very sturdy coped with being shoved through small holes in the celling and walls.
Nothing drags this bit of kit down. Small, fits almost anywhere. Simple to set up. (Take it out of the box, plug it in to power and network)
Five ports, one up four down. Plenty of bandwidth for most things. Single led for connectivity and activity.
It’s completely silent in normal use and comes with a wall wart plug.
It literally says in the title that it has a 100mbps cap, but i didn’t realise and was disappointed when it arrived, as i was only getting max of 92.2mbps before it caved and dropped to about 80mbps. Other than that its a good plug play switch!
These units are neat little switches that work great to expand our wired network as our router (eero) only has 1 ethernet output. Now with these switches we have a wired connection to the Xbox and Apple TV in the living room, and a connection wired up for the office at the end of the garden, where another eero device is in use.
These have worked completely as you’d expect them to and are an incredible value. The main downside with these is that they have a 5V power adapter, but if you wanted to you could connect these to USB power (they are 5V after all) by finding a compatible cable, or making your own if you wanted to.
When in use, these work great in terms of file transfer. Our internet connection is ~500mbps so about half of what these can handle, but I have successfully copied files via network transfer at full speed via this switch, so all working as expected there.
I was having issues with the WiFi on my PC. The router was in the same room but only had one connection that was currently being used by another device. This was simple to install (it took about 10 seconds) and has been working perfectly ever since. Impressed.
It works! It works a treat. A tiny little box that neatly sits on my table. I’ve a PC and an Imac both running from it. No drop in signal. Getting 500 Mbps via Full Fibre running a 10 metre cable from my router to an outside extension building. Easy to install just plug and play. Happy happy happy
I got this box for a gaming room I have 4 ethernet socket that go to this room but this isn’t enough for all my devices so I got this to supply the lower intensive devices (e.g. PS3 Wii U) the biggest flaw is this doesn’t work with the TP-Link 32 port switch the 2 devices don’t like to communicate with each other and have to have my router between the devices which defeats the point of i
Our router is kept in the spare room/office, as I like to have my PC connected over ethernet. And we recently updated our media appliances in the living room. (New TV, Fire Stick, etc)
I wanted to connect these appliances over ethernet, but like many homes in the UK, we don’t have ethernet wired throughout the home, most newer homes don’t either… and running long ethernet cables along the skirting or under the carpet was never even an option.
My solution to this was to use powerline, and that was fine as I only needed a single ethernet cable for our TV box, but obviously after upgrading the media situation, I needed more ports. So I purchased this little network switch and it works absolutely brilliantly.
Now all of the appliances behind the TV are connected over ethernet, and it only took me 5 minutes, very happy customer.
Like many homes in the UK, we rely on using power-line adapters as hard-wired ethernet throughout the home is not very common, even in newer homes. The router is currently in my bedroom upstairs, and I wanted to connect our downstairs media
No problems, plug and play, like a power adaptor. Needs a power socket to run it, though.
Well packaged and looks well made too. Works exactly as expected. Happy with my purchase.
Had this for ages now and hasn’t let me down once. Gigabit speeds are rapid
Used this for multiple device contained within the TV unit. Note for the unwise this needs powe
I recently purchased the TP-Link LS1005G 5-Port switch, and it has been an absolute game-changer for my home network. With my modem lacking enough Ethernet ports, I needed a solution to connect two additional computers in the living room, and this switch proved to be the perfect answer.
Setting up the LS1005G was a breeze; all I had to do was plug in the power and connect the devices. No complicated configurations or technical knowledge required. The switch’s compact design also allows it to fit easily into my existing setup without taking up much space.
Since installing the TP-Link LS1005G, my network performance has been flawless. The transfer speeds are fantastic, and I’ve experienced no lag or interruptions while using the connected devices simultaneously. It’s truly a testament to the switch’s efficiency.
Additionally, the build quality is excellent, and the switch feels sturdy and durable. I appreciate the LED indicators for each port, as they help me quickly identify the connected devices at a glance.
In conclusion, the TP-Link LS1005G 5-Port switch exceeded my expectations in every aspect. It has provided a simple and reliable solution for expanding my network and seamlessly connecting multiple devices in my living room. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a dependable Ethernet switch. 5 stars well deserved!
Not much to say about this one you plug it in add your lan cables and bobs your uncle it just works.
Sky helpline actually recommended this item as compatible with my new Eero, Fibre internet system, and it’s worked perfectly for me. It’s also reasonably priced which suits the Paisley man in me.
It means I have my landline phone, Sky System, Eero Router and Smart TV all working perfectly, thank goodness my son is a bit of a wiz with computers, it would have taken me ages to get it all working.
It’s not that it’s difficult, I’m just slow with all this modern tech stuff, being an old git and all. :-)))
Used loads of these for cctv network projects. Great value basic 10/100 switch. Very small form factor.
Best think I bought in the last couple of weeks. I was always swapping the cable between tv and ps. Now, never again! 😀 perfect speed, plug in and go
This item was used to add additional hard wired data outlets in a property. It was good value for money, small and compact, and easy to use.
Bought to replace my mum’s old switch that had several port failures. Lightweight, easy enough to mount, just plug it in, connect it up and turn it on. Plasticky but mounted in a cupboard out of sight so can’t really be seen and unlikely to get damaged.
There are times when only a wired connection will do. I wanted to have a solid connection from my main PC to my NAS, but also direct link to the Mesh wifi. This was a simple plug and play solution and it works
Bought to connect router and various devices which require wired connections.
Easy to set up – just plug and play. Just remember you will likely need an additional cable to connect the router back to the modem once it and the various devices have been plugged into the switch.
It takes one input (in any one of 5 ports) from my EERO box, and gives me the other 4 to plug in Ethernet connections to my wired PCs. I replaced the Ethernet connectors that came with the EERO box with Cat 8 cables. That gave me a modest speed increase, but, even with the original cables, it was running pretty efficiently and fast. Smaller than I expected it to be, but it does “exactly what it says on the tin”, and at a great price. Brillband, my new ISP, recommended this one for a small home network, and I’m glad I accepted their recommendation – particularly since it was on sale at a discounted price (8.99).
Purchased this for my office as slowly moving as many devices away from WiFi as possible and this was a great price and had the amount of ports I needed. It works great but does get a bit hot and have had to unplug to reboot a few times as the throughput has dropped to unusable, once rebooted it was fine again. I have got a full managed switch in the sidelines which I am looking to swap in but I will reuse this small switch somewhere in the house. The 4 stars is purely due to the several reboots and mentioning heat but that is nothing to be concerned with.
Great bit of kit.
Ran cat 8 cable from our router to the upstairs spare room. From here, used this little device to split a gigabit connection to my sons PC and my PC. Speed tests show both PCs getting the expected speeds.
When both are downloading simultaneously it doesn’t do a great job of splitting the bandwidth evenly. One will download very fast whilst the other one slowly. This is rarely a problem though.
One of my switches decided to die and I had to get a replacement fast. Amazon offered same day delivery for this so it won my attention. Priced at only 15 at the time of purchase (OCT 2022) This was a no brainer purchase.
Arrived and plugged in all my network cables and worked.
Not sure on the durability of this as it is made from lightweight plastic and only one led indicator for each socket. So there is no indication if the plugged in cable is working at 10 100 or 1000 mbits… just a note for those that need quick visualisation confirmation of the speed.
Small plug and cable (dedicated plug ) so could be an issue if the plug/psu fails.
All in all I am happy with the purchase.
Pros
* Total Value for money
* No configuration Needed
* Light Weight
* Very Compact
Cons
* Not suitable for desktop locating
* LEDs Do Not indicate Speed
* Dedicated PSU plug
As a cheap alternative this switch is very good.. It is also a branded name so some re-assurance there for product support and reliability?
I would purchase this again as an basic Switch as it does the job.
I needed an additional switch for a short term network redesign before a full redesign later this year with a larger switch and patch panel so bought the cheapest gigabit switch on Amazon. 7.99 at the time.
I see complaints about this switch in other reviews so lets start with the negative to get it out of the way.
Negative
– the switch feels cheap and plasticy. Feels like something from a Christmas cracker.
– Status lights don’t blink on activity, only static on connection. This may be a positive if the switch is not hidden but mine are hidden and I prefer status blinking for diagnosis
That is it for the negatives. Nothing deal breaking there for most people
Positives
– very small and compact
– runs cold so no worries with heat
– full gigabit ports – anyone saying speed issues should check their cables or QoS settings on their router. cat6a gives me no issues.
– takes heavy throughput easily – I have a gaming / streaming PC, nas and server running several vm’s connected to this which get simultaneously accessed by multiple devices on the network with no issues
Performance is exactly the same as the netgear pro safe switches which I usually buy and have served me well for years
Switch is wired back to router so no issues. If you wire back to another switch before the router, you may see performance drop
Overall very pleased with it and works perfectly until I swap this and my netgear switch for a managed enterpise switch later this year
My other advice for home users is don’t use the rubbish (usually yellow) Ethernet cable your internet provider gives you. Invest in some cat 6 or cat 6a. it makes a difference
Superb, small form factor network switches. What do these actually do you might ask. They simply allow you to take an ethernet cable (aka CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 and now CAT7) from the back of your home network router (your BT Superhub/Smarthub or Virgin Superhub), and plug it into any of the 5 ports on this thing. You then have four ports free to connect ethernet cables from to you other devices. I’m lucky in that our new house had preinstalled network sockets around the house, but the BT SmartHub didn’t work very well in the cupboard under the stairs, so I moved it into the living room. Greath signal now, but I needed a way to “power” the other network plugs around the house. Enter these little beauties. I plugged an ethernet cable from my BT Smarthub into the nearest network wall socket. I then went to to cupboard under the stairs (where the other ends of all the house network sockets terminate). I found which socket had the incoming signal from the router (i.e. the corresponding socket termination, that was connected through the walls, into the BT Smarthub), and plugged an ethernet cable into this “switch”. I then took the remaining four slots, and connected ethernet cables from them, into the other network sockets in the cupboard, and boom, high speed internet available where ever there is a socket in my house. Before this method, I had a BT Complete WiFi disc, which was wirelessly connected upstairs, down to the hub in the living room. The connection status was “Good”. After using this network switch, and plugging in an ethernet cable into the disc upstairs, it’s gone to “Excellent” connection. No, these switches won’t improve your WiFi, instead they give you the option of a wired internet connection. Great price, great form factor, and a superb data throughput. Plastic casing, isn’t unattractive, but does the job. Would buy again.
