Found the plugs easy to set up using the app and 2.4 ghz and simply following the instructions, had all 4 linked to Alexa within approx 10 minutes of opening the box. If I need to do other rooms will definitely go to this make again.

I bought these smart plugs to easily control lamps in my living room. I had been using manual timers but was becoming increasingly frustrated at having to frequently amend the “on” time with the Autumn nights closing in. It was also not practical to access the sockets to override the timer on dull evenings or to stop the lamps going off when remaining after scheduled lights out.

I already have Tapo/TP-link products so had the Tapo app and found it very straightforward to link the plugs by Bluetooth. They added automatically as Alexa skills giving me the option to define schedules in either app.

I can now instantly turn lamps on and off with a simple Alexa command or via a virtual lightswitch in the app.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy setup and Alexa compatible

Oh my god..this is what you need if you want to be able to remotely control something and monitor the energy consumption. Simple to set up (through the app) and works perfectly. Got some very surprising data, what I thought had high energy consumption was in fact low and what I thought was low turned out to be high. At least I have a better understanding of the energy usage by device

If you are wanting a number of smart plugs but don’t want to spend a large amount, the Tapo plugs are perfect. Tapo quality without being as highly priced as others on the market. Fits in well with the Tapo ecosystem and works with Google and Alexa.

I have given this a five star reating as they work well and easy to set up. But
I am afraid Amazon employ ignorant people who cannot read or don’t want to so they leave the package outsid my property and where anyone can see it, except me of course because it has been dumped outside my property,I have about much chance of knowing where the parcel is than pigs can fly.
No good talking with Amazon as they take no notice of anyone.

I’m a recent concert to Smart plugs and am very happy with these plugs from Tapo. They’re very easy to set up with the App and compatibility with Alexa gives another option to control/use them. The ability to set up routines for lamps to come on/off when desired is a nice touch and of course being able to control devices remotely the main benefit of having them. I’ve added a camera to my Tapo arsenal and look forward to other Tapo innovationsb being added in time.

My parents purchased a water fountain for the back garden, and it has to run for a period of time each day to keep it clean.. I got one of these smart plugs so that they could control the fountain without having to go into our outside cupboard where the sockets are every time they wanted to turn the fountain on.

We have a schedule set-up on the Tapo app that turns the fountain on at 10am and back off again an hour later.

Great little plug. Will definitely buy more of these in the future.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought these smart plugs a while back so I could easily switch off the 4 lamps I have dotted around my room without having to move to each individual switch and they have been really helpful! You have to download an app which is simple and easy to use for setting up the devices via your home WiFi system. I had no issues with the setup at all. The app is compatible with shortcut options on apple devices which was really handy as I can ask Siri to switch on individual lamps without having to touch my phone. The timer works perfectly switching on the device at a set time or much more conveniently at sunrise and sunset. There is no delay at all when switching on the devices through the app either.

Overall really useful product which I recommend.

I bought these to replace some older smart plugs which no longer worked well with my wireless router.
I have a BT Smarthub 2 which is dual band wifi but you cannot separate the channels, so I had to have a separate wireless hub to run the old 2.4ghz plugs.
The new TP-Link Tapo smart plugs, although also 2.4ghz, integrate easily with the BT Smarthub 2, so I no longer need the separate wifi hub.
The old plugs were Teckin brand and worked perfectly with 2.4ghz, but I couldn’t get them to work with the BT hub. The new Tapo plugs had no problem with the BT hub and connected easily using the Tapo app, which is excellent.
It is easy to add the Tapo skill to Alexa and they work perfectly with Alexa.
I haven’t tried the timer function so I could not rate it.

I have a number of these plugs installed around house to switch on difficult to access wall sockets. The best use to date is the switching of my 4K projector. Plus its attached AV receiver, 4k Blu-ray disk player, amplifier sub woofer that all required individual switching on from different power sources. Now I just say. Alexa turn on projector and all devices turn on together. With regard to another posters comments about privacy. I wish that all our electronics were not made in PRC. As it is. They probably have access to all our networks via the PRC manufactured routers anyway. To counter any monitoring of my private info. I use an old mobile phone linked to Wi-Fi to set up devices. As it just holds a few pictures of my dog Freddie they will not learn a lot from me.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThese P110 plugs are great. You can turn them on-and-off with the Tapo app or you can do it with Alexa, which will autodiscover them. Setup is a breeze with the Tapo app and you can also see the energy consumption of connected devices through it. If you know your provider’s rate per kW/h you can tell the app that so it will show you energy consumption with the associated cost. There is also an integration for Homebridge if you are a tinkerer! Now the issues – due to the size of the plugs, if you have an outlet with USB ports they will be inaccessible (see photo). The plug also blocks the socket switch although this is less of an issues as you normally leave the Tapo plug powered on and switch it from the app. So overall great but be aware you may need to consider where you put them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great with some issues

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersIf you are looking for a simple and affordable way to make your home smarter, the TP-Link Smart Plug might be a good option for you. This plug allows you to control your devices from anywhere using the Tapo app or your voice with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set schedules, timers, and countdowns to automate your appliances and save energy.

The plug is easy to set up and use. You just need to plug it into a wall socket, download the Tapo app, and follow the instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi network. You can then name your plug and assign it to a room or a group. You can also create scenes to control multiple devices with one tap or voice command.

The plug works well with most devices, such as lamps, fans, heaters, coffee makers, and more. However, it is not compatible with some high-power appliances, such as air conditioners, microwaves, or hair dryers. The plug also does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, so you need to have a 2.4 GHz network available.

The plug is small and compact, so it does not block the adjacent sockets. It also has a button on the side that allows you to manually turn it on or off. The plug has a LED indicator that shows its status, but it can be turned off in the app if you find it too bright at night.

The Tapo app is user-friendly and intuitive. It allows you to monitor the power consumption of your devices, set up smart actions based on conditions, and share the control with other family members or guests. The app also supports firmware updates to keep your plug secure and up-to-date.

The plug is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to control your devices. You just need to enable the Tapo skill or service in the Alexa or Google Home app and link your account. You can then use commands like “Alexa, turn on the lamp” or “Hey Google, turn off the fan”.

    Pros:

1- Easy to set up and use
    2- Affordable and reliable
3- Supports remote control, scheduling, timers, and countdowns
4- Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
5- Has a power monitoring feature
6- Has a manual switch and a LED indicator

    Cons:

1- Not compatible with high-power appliances
2- Does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks
3- LED indicator might be too bright for some users

    Reasons to buy:

If you want to make your home smarter without spending too much money
If you want to control your devices from anywhere using your phone or your voice
If you want to save energy and automate your appliances

    Reasons to avoid:

If you have high-power appliances that need more than 10 A of current
If you only have a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network at home
If you prefer a plug that does not have a LED indicator
    Conclusion:

The TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug is a smart and easy way to control your devices remotely. It offers many features and functions that make your life more convenient and comfortable. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to manage your devices. However, it is not suitable for high-power appliances or 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, so you need to check the compatibility before buying. Overall, it is a great product for its price and performance.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have had these running now for ages, and they never never let me down. I even have one in the metal shed, to turn the garden lights on, and one in the greenhouse to turn soft lights on there, I say this because there is no problem with wifi signal range.
Easy to set up, far easier than other makes, very responsive, and incredibly reliable. The app can program each switch to come on and off several times a day if needed, with incredible accuracy, and remember these can be controlled from anywhere, if need be, even from Spain on holiday !. One thing I do like about these switches, is even if your router were to fail at home, the switches would still retain any schedule for turning lights on and off at home …. great value, and these really are the best versions I have known.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI quite like the tapo range of smart home products, and am a fan of this plug once set up, however I do have one small gripe.

As with all other tapo products we own, this plug would not connect with the wifi network coming directly from our router. I could get to the point in the set up of inputting the wifi password but then it then went to connect to it, it would inevitably fail to do so and put itself back into setup mode, with the app just freezing.

The only wifi network I could get these to initially connect to was that coming from any powerline wifi extender. I have no idea at all why this happens as the wifi coming from an extender is the same standard that comes from the router @ 2.4ghz. I’m not an IT professional but consider myself to be fairly proficient with computing / home networking and could not get any tapo item to connect to the router’s wifi signal.

Not the end of the world, and wouldn’t stop me buying more tapo products, but lead to a significant amount of frustration when I first set up some TP-link smart home items.

Super easy to set up and versatile app that allows you to schedule, time and see how long the devices have been on throughout the week.

The set-up for Tapo devices is very simple and the app will guide you through that process in a way that I believe most people could follow very confidently.
Once set up you get control over ON/OFF, and can schedule or use a timer on the plug. The app will also display stats about how much use the plug has had throughout the week.
I didn’t set these up with Alexa however I did assign them to my Google Home, and they work great with voice commands through my phone and my Google Home devices around the house.

If you want a simple smart plug that allows scheduling and can be linked to Alexa or Google I couldn’t recommend these more. They work great and the App is non-intrusive and easy to use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have now purchased a number or TP-Link Tapo Smart Products including a number of these plugs. I started with one because I had a plug socket behind a cabinet that was a bit of a pain to get to every time I wanted to switch the plug on, this seemed to be a solution to that issue. It worked very well with Alexa and I could see the benefits of having a numbers of these plugs, lights etc., as it becomes possible to switch on your plugs, etc., literally without lifting a finger.

Its possible to use them as plug with devices and switch those devices on and off using these plugs. If you have devices that you need to switch on and off at certain times, it is also possible to set timers to turn the plug on and off. I have some set to go off at a certain time daily in case I fall asleep leaving some things on, so they will not be on all night or wake you because they are still on. On the occasions I have done this the timer work well.

It is also possible to buy them with Monitoring to view your electricity usage, which these do not have. The Tapo smart light bulbs do, if you plan to use the smart plugs together with the Smart Bulbs. I was also a little surprised that they do not have surge protection, which is probably worth mentioning although its possible to fix this in other ways.

Not really “smart”, but turn off-and-onable via wi-fi, and also reporting energy usage of whatever is plugged into them. Be aware that Internet access is necessary to initially set up each plug, which is done via the Tapo app. This basically uses your email address and password as a key, so that the comms to the plugs is encrypted. Henceforth, internet access is only required if you want to control the plug via the app or via Google/Alexa etc. If you use one of the open source tools available (such as “TapoP100” on GitHub) then the plugs don’t need internet access to function (and rightly so).

Purchased these plugs with the intention of monitoring my cars charging costs. The plug was very easy to set up and for the first two nights worked great. However came to charge car on the third night and nothing. Plug is responsive and turns on and off via the app or the button but will not run the car charger.
Very disappointed what initially worked very well now fails to do what I purchased it for. The plug still works but not to charge my car. The car draw is only 2.3kwh max as its a 3 Pin charger. I have ordered a older Kasa unit as reports are very positive regarding this purpose.

Update I purchased a heavy duty extension lead of 10m instead of my 30m extension. This must have been the issue as the plug now works as intended I think the load of 10amp over a sustained period was too much for the cheaper 30m extension. My fault not the plug.

I like these, they’re compact, they maintain a very stable connection to my Wi-Fi, they integrate well with Alexa, they turn things on and off reliably.

I have this hooked up to my hot tub so that I can berate the wife with how much the bloody thing costs to run. They do this job very well – you might be able to find an equally socially useful purpose for them.

    It works well.

I like it a lot, especially the power usage monitoring feature. I use it with my google home, so can’t really say how it works with Alexa, but I assume it works just as fine as it does with Google. Wifi connection is stable even if it’s somewhere where the signal is kinda weak.

I’ve spent hours trying to fix my smart plugs and video camera after updating my wifi system. Although I’m now working on a so called smart system which can discriminate between 2.4 and 5gHz system depending on what is being added to my system, I had no luck. After researching just about every smart plug on Amazon I decided to have one more attempt and bought the Tapo smart plug. I followed the extremely clear instructions and managed to connect the system and Alexa within a couple of minutes (and that included an update of software for the plug).
What I particularly liked was that Tapo used Bluetooth to make the connection and then reverting to your home wifi system.

Having used smart plugs in the past that required a cumbersome hub to work, I was happy to find a brand of smart plug which needs to such thing, and is a reliable brand.
The plug is tiny so fits in beside other plugs, set up was snappy, and unlike other smart plugs which always seem to have an issue connecting, this connected first try with no problems.
Great being able to run on your Wi-Fi, simple operation and easy to use. Win win!
Also for this price, it’s a must!

These are absolutely great devices. I wanted to use a well known brand and be able to keep all my devices in one ecosystem. This works great for that. I originally ordered the standard plugs, but when I saw that you could get plugs with energy monitoring, I had to get some. These are SO helpful in terms of understanding what devices around the home are draining energy, and what is already pretty efficient.

My only gripe is that they haven’t updated them yet to work with the new “Matter” standard. Hopefully this can be done with a simple software update in the future. If they do this, I think these would become the “go-to” smart devices.

I have had a lot of problems with other makes of this type of socket not working. This really came to a head when I changed my main wireless point to a Ubiquiti one. The other brands would work for a while then drop out totally unreliable. The firmware on these sockets are so much better, they allow you to easily swap networks (I have multiple WAPs), when I set them up they downloaded a firmware update which pleased me as I realised they are being maintained. I particularly like the timer feature that allows you to time around sunrise and sunset. I have solar panels and a PHEV car. If I use the car at night I generally want to charge it from solar. The sockets turn the car charger on an hour after sunrise and off an hour before sunset. If I know that I need to use the car first thing then I can easily override this setting so that it charges but using full price electricity.

Only every used it with the Tapo App, i.e. not tried speech control, and works fine.
No having my phone handy and having to reach down for the plug to press the manual override would have be a lot easier if the button was on the top, or even the rhs, and not the lhs.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have several of these around the home, some are used as power monitors, others as timed sockets. One runs my dehumidifier for 12 hours, (where before we left it on 24/7) another socket on the bedside lamp which I have set up as a wake-up light. I can even choose the days it switches on, so I have it set for 06:30 mon-Fri, and off Sat/Sunday. Others are on dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine. With the changes I have made to my power consumption, such as thermal solar for the hot water, split system air source heating, etc., and so far I have saved over 1100 in electricity in 9 months. Whilst the potential savings from the sockets alone is small, there is the added convenience of being able to control many appliances remotely and monitor the power consumption.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought these to add to the existing tapo p110 I have. For around 10 each I can monitor my energy consumption, I can add my Electricity cost, so it can give me an estimate of how much I have to pay, lets me setup automation, so I can tell it to turn on or off depending on the day and how long it should stay on for. I can monitor all this from anywhere as long as the p110 is connected to the wifi. It’s compact as well and has LED’s to let you know if the p110 is functioning as it should. 6/5 For 10 it’s a bargain for how much it could save me over time. One of the best items I have bought in general.

Also for anyone using Home Assistant, it works perfectly and all the data from the p110 is available to implement.

Have installed a few of these Smart Plugs and after downloading the Tapo App I have found them very useful around the house to get to know exactly what I am using, data is collected on the App so you can view any trends. It is a bit of a learning curve but I now have been able to set and trim my timer functions for appliances. Apart from the outlay, I have saved by using them Wisely. Payback was easy, one plug was connected to my TV, set-top box, and speaker system as I could switch it all off and on when I wanted through the timer settings even taking into account that the set-top box would require an update through the early hours. Its also Alexa friendly as well

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI used to have so many different smart plugs from other companies and at least 4 apps on my phone. Then I bought 8 of these and all the woes went away. They simply just work. Set up is an absolute breeze, download the app, choose the smart plug and it sets itself up. They are so small and discreet and don’t take up any extra socket space. Thry are powerful , as in they cope with high wattage. I have one on my kettle linked to Alexa. Fill the kettle before I go to bed, say Alexa, kettle on in the morning and its boiled when i get downstairs. Just saves time and the kettle is 2kw. Other plugs I had wouldn’t cope with this. They integrate with Alexa easily and just give you a great smart home. I also have a couple with energy monitoring built in, as in the current climate we all want to know what we spend. I now just have one app on my phone and it works perfectly. I know these aren’t cheap, but amazon do have thrm regularly on offer, but in my opinion thry are the best.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersTP-link’s TAPO system is excellent and these are very useful additions. As well as having the standard remote plug features of scheduling, random switching and timer control they also have a built-in monitoring facility.

This allows you to see what electrical power a connected devices is using now (e.g., 20 watts) as well as the accumulated power over a period of time (e.g., 1.5 kilo-watt-hours in the past 24 hours). It soon becomes clear that reported power consumption in a device’s technical specifications can be different from actual power consumption. Interesting data can be observed, for example, the varying rates of power usage of a smart charger.

If the plug is programmed with the actual cost of the electricity, a running total of expenditure is also kept. This feature can be programmed for different electrical costs at different times or seasons. Where such costs and time periods vary from day to day, the plug cannot update the information dynamically from the internet. Each plug keeps its own data about power consumption and costs; there is no feature whereby the app might collate data to show overall consumption from several plugs, something that would be useful.

One small criticisim I would have of these plugs is that the corresponding section of the app needs a revision. Currently the new features of power and cost monitoring look very much like an afterthought and really do deserve a more prominent position in the app. This is something that can be sorted out in future developments of the TAPO app.

Overall, a product to recommend fully.
