been having trouble finding the right controller for a PC either not working as expected or broke after a couple of months , this one is one of the best i have used , smooth easy to hold and unlike others has extra programmable buttons , feels well made and far cheaper than a xbox controller infact i prefer this one .
I was surprised at the quality of this. Microsoft’s Xbox controllers have been getting worse in terms of quality for a good while now so I wanted to test an alternative. The Turtle Beach controller isn’t perfect but it seems to be more consistent with the analogue sticks that the tat that Microsoft bundles with their consoles now. Presumably to force people to buy the Elite controller instead.
Give this a go. For the price, it’s a good option.
I was skeptical of buying this as I’ve only invested in their headsets which are generally mid-high reliable.
The controller is light weight, responsive and every press of all the buttons and triggers are FLAWLESS!
Pattern design on the plastic increases grip and allows some air flow so sweating doesn’t appear and often. The vibration feature is no e and strong as well.
I highly recommend this purchase to anyone looking for a wired Xbox controller and to not hesitate! (However do your research on their headsets!)
*I tested this controller on PC via Steam*
Thank you.
I’ve bought several types of X box one controllers, none ever last more than a couple of months. I decided to give these a try for my teenagers and both say they are great and much better to use
Im a casual gamer and it does what it needs to do for me. The value is amazing compared to buying other controllers. Response is very good, I haven’t ran into problems playing with it anyway and I’ve had this for a few months
exactly what i needed, loved this controller since i ordered my 1st one i’m now onto my 3rd, sound controls are perfect for CoD. Only shame is that there is no wireless option apart from that i have no faults with it and the price is spot o
Had 2 Xnox Elite, both series’s, coming in at 130 quid….for 30 quid, just over 20% this is decent and great value…..the hearing function is great, 2 paddles great and simple…..the Elite is overly complex and expensive….this is light, obviously cheaper build quality, but if you want a great value controller with an extra bit of functionality at 30 quid…very good and recommended…
I always hold back a few weeks before doing reviews, because you never know!
So, had this a good few weeks with NO issues at all. Nice long cable, no stick drift and a decent construction. Works well on both PC and Xbox One. So far nk bad points either ad for the price ats what you expect.
My partner seems to get through a few controllers and the best ones to buy are the turtle beach. The feel great quality and last a lot longer. The controllers are not at fault my partners heavy hands are lol. Wouldn’t get any other controller.
Firstly the reviews when you look at them are not all for the ATOM.
The controller comes in a nicely presented box and looks smart. Using Turtle Beach headsets for years and having no issues I was expecting this to be very similar in reliability. It does not disapoint.
The controller inside the packaging comes in a neat little branded turtle beach cloth bag. A nice touch but doesn’t serve much purpose other than protection from scratches.
This is a 2 part controller that charges via USB C and does not offer connectivity via hard connection – Bluetooth only. The controller packs away to an oversized wallet size little bit to big to go in a pocket but perfect to go into a backpack.
The controller splits and attaches to the mobile device via a clamp in system. You will possibly struggle with any other case other than a thin silicone type. But if you don’t mind dropping the device out of its case its a much better experience, it feels nice and snug once clamped in.
Once connected the first part of the controller pairs with the second and works impressively well.
I have tested this using the Xbox remote play and other than graphics being slightly worse (nothing to do with the ATOM) most games are very playable and enjoyable as much as if you were using the TV. It’s nice to use if you fancy a quick game but don’t fancy going into the room where your console is or if your out and about.
Personally
Feels lightweight and flimsy which I thought would be an issue but its fine and has survived the usual drops and knocks. Sound feature seems OK but not really tested it on a game where it would make a difference. Normally use wireless controllers but have not had any issues either the wire, long enough to sit a comfort distance from TV.
Basically needed a new controller and bought this one due to the reviews.
I have not plugged in the headphones yet because I don’t need quiet game play, but will at some point as it seems to be a key feature.
My only beef with the unit, are the L2 and R2 buttons that sit on the top of the controller for your index fingers. I just feel they are too small by comparison to the original xbox control. It works but I feel I am missing it sometimes as it doesn’t come far enough left or right on the controller.
Very good controller for the price you pay. I play on pc and it worked as soon as I plugged in just like the official. Extra buttons are a nice touch, some of the standard buttons are placed slightly different compared to the original but you get used to it after a couple hours. The only thing I didn’t like at first was the grip texture however again you get used to this. Overall a very good controller especially for the price. 4/5 recommend
I’ve been using this on a Windows PC and it cost me around half the price of the official xbox pad. As you’d expect the official pad is better quality but the React-R works well and I prefer the D-pad on it.
It’s not wireless, it comes with a 2.5m long detachable cable (USB-A to USB-C) and also works with other USB-C cables. It has two additional buttons on the back which you can map yourself. The analogue sticks have a bit more resistance than the official pad, the analogue triggers are a bit louder when pressed and the rumble motor vibrates a little louder. I prefer the D-pad as it doesn’t make loud clicks like the official pad.
It has a 3.5mm audio jack with a useful microphone mute button and light indicator so you know when it’s muted. There is button called ‘Superhuman hearing’ which sounds gimmicky but does give an audio boost. When comparing the audio quality to the official pad they both sounded similar.
In summary it’s not as high quality as an official pad but it’s a good cheaper alternative that I’d recommend if you can get it for around 25.
First impressions of this controller when you open the packaging is not good I’m afraid. This looks and feels like cheap rubbish. But get past that and start using this controller and you realise it’s a decent substitute for the more expensive official controllers. The usb c lead it comes with is surprisingly long and also serves as a good lead for charging your phone as well. For the price it’s a bit of a bargain. Obviously the official Xbox one controllers look and feel more superior but this is a budget controller that exceeded my expectations.
THIS IS NOT AN IN DEPTH REVIEW. I will not cover the audio side of it or the programmable buttons.
I bought this replace an XBox One controller that was used for PC gaming. While I didn’t want to go back to a wired controller, it was something I was willing to consider.
The connection for it is USB-C, and the cable supplied is braided (feels quality), but also extremely long so if it’s going to be used at close quarters you might want to get a slightly shorter cable. As for installation it’s plug and play with Windows 10 and 11 (and probably earlier OS versions), and once it’s been detected by Windows, you’re good to go. Or at least you’d think so.
If the controller is shipped with the 1.03 firmware, after a while it can power itself down. Once this happens you have to unplug the controller from the PC and plug it back in again. This is far from ideal because there’s an added level of stress on the components and sooner or later something is going to break. After a bit of investigation, it turned out that the controller needed to have the firmware updated. I went to the Turtle Beach site, downloaded the software, and the firmware was updated pretty quickly. This seems to have fixed the issue, so if you have this problem then there’s the fix.
In use the controller feels sturdy enough. Flex is at a minimum (you really have to apply crazy pressure), and it’s not overly heavy nor unduly light. It’s got a really nice texture and it’s also not as prone to making your hands sweat. You can use this controller for ages and it not be a problem.
Something that counts in it’s favour is the travel distance of the triggers and sticks. They’re slightly less than on a standard controller and this leads to less input lag (smaller dead zone) and increased responsiveness. If you play FPS or racing games then it’s definitely better than a lot of other controllers out there. I play a lot of racing and simulation games, and I’ve noticed that my game has definitely upped ever so slightly. Anything that requires fine control (as opposed to fully depressing a trigger or going in a direction) will require a bit of refinement, but it’s not unduly difficult and pretty soon motor memory will kick in with the new values.
Something worth noting is that there are also trigger buttons underneath, and these can be mapped to functions. If you’ve ever driven a paddle shift car or used a paddle shift control wheel, it feels quite natural using these as gear shift buttons, but they’re also useful for FPS and simulators.
The buttons also have just the right amount of tactile feedback, and you can be fairly confident that a press has registered. Tactile feedback is also where it fails as well. The vibrations are mediocre at best. I’ve had controllers in the past that have been physically unpleasant to hold and I’m surprised they haven’t shaken themselves apart because of the vibrations, but this is a bit of a buzz (my XBox controller danced all over the desk, this doesn’t). I don’t particularly like overpowered motors, but these could definitely do with a little more oomph.
There’s the nice addon of a screenshot/video button. This seems to tie into the XBox PC app, and a short press grabs a screenshot, while a long press activates screen recording. This seems to be handled by the XBox client and overlay, but it’s useful enough to hit without requiring you to remove your hands from the controller.
As far as the lights on the controller go, they’re not bad. Visible in bright lighting, and not glaring in low light conditions. When you’re playing, you can easily reference what you want, but it’s not bright enough that it’s drawing attention away from the screen or ruining your vision in low lit areas.
If you’re a mid level gamer then you can do a lot worse than this controller. Everything seems to be done to the “just right” specification, with possibly the exception of the vibration motors.
Overall built quality is excellent. Feels good in the hands.
Triggers and buttons have a textured surface which takes some getting used to, but should prove much better than the slippery triggers of a normal xbox controller.
Thumbsticks are also textured, which is a very welcome addition. The sticks themselves also feel great and they have a good springy feel with no drift that I could detect.
Onto things I am not so fond of:
D-pad travel is quite a bit more than standard. Makes using the D-pad awkward and slow.
Shoulder buttons are AWFUL. They feel spongy and often don’t register, or if they do register and you need to hold them down, the slightest reduction in pressure will disengage them.
The triggers are inexplicably the exact opposite. They stop dead against the controller casing and it is actually audible. Not a big deal in itself, but the difference between the triggers and the shoulder buttons are vast and that makes it uncomfortable, with a weird tactile feedback.
The addition of the additional buttons underneath the controller is great. They are positioned absolutely perfectly. And although they can be mapped to the thumbsticks, shoulders or D-pad as “alternative” buttons, they can’t be mapped to the menu selection buttons, which is a big disappointment for me because that was one of the main reasons I pre-ordered this. Because they claimed the buttons could be mapped to “any” buttons on the controller. This simply isn’t true.
I will persist with this controller, but it is not a comfortable transition from my older XBOX ONE controller.
