Easy to use and Bluetooth pairing. no noticeable sound quality issues. I did not have to recharge it throughout the entire 16 hour flight. It can also charge while being used.
My gaming monitor only comes with Aux out. So I got the Airfly Pro so that I can pair my monitor to my bluetooth speaker. Put both devices into pairing mode and the connection was established almost instantaneously. Super impressed.
As a frequent traveler, the quest for the perfect travel accessory can feel endless, particularly when it comes to finding solutions that bridge the gap between modern wireless technology and the often outdated in-flight entertainment systems. The Twelve South AirFly Pro Bluetooth Wireless Audio Transmitter/Receiver emerges as a game-changer in this space, offering an elegant solution for using AirPods Pro 2 and other Bluetooth headphones with any 3.5mm audio jack. After using the AirFly Pro on multiple flights, I am thoroughly impressed by its performance, design, and the freedom it offers.
Ease of Use
The AirFly Pro is remarkably user-friendly, with a simple setup process that involves plugging the device into the headphone jack of an in-flight entertainment system and pairing it with your AirPods Pro 2. The pairing process is swift and intuitive, allowing you to connect up to two devices simultaneously. This feature proved invaluable on a long-haul flight where both my partner and I could enjoy the same movie without the hassle of tangled wires or subpar airline headphones.
Design and Build Quality
Compact and lightweight, the AirFly Pro is the epitome of travel-friendly design. Its sleek black exterior is unobtrusive and blends well with any tech setup. Despite its small size, the device feels durable and well-made, capable of withstanding the rigors of travel without issue. The inclusion of a small travel pouch is a thoughtful touch, providing a convenient way to store and protect the device when not in use.
Performance
The true test of any Bluetooth transmitter is its performance, particularly when it comes to maintaining a stable connection and delivering high-quality audio. The AirFly Pro excels in both areas. Throughout my flights, the connection to my AirPods Pro 2 remained flawless, with no noticeable lag or dropout. The audio quality transmitted was clear and crisp, allowing me to become fully immersed in movies and music, thus greatly enhancing my in-flight entertainment experience.
Battery Life
With a battery life of up to 16 hours, the AirFly Pro easily lasted through long flights, and it can be charged via USB-C, which is convenient and fast. The ability to charge it using the same cable as my laptop and phone simplifies packing and ensures the device is always ready for use.
Compatibility
One of the most appealing aspects of the AirFly Pro is its wide compatibility. It works not only with AirPods Pro 2 but with any Bluetooth-enabled headphones or earbuds. This versatility makes it an essential accessory not just for travel but for use at home with equipment lacking Bluetooth capability.
Conclusion
The Twelve South AirFly Pro is an indispensable accessory for anyone looking to use wireless headphones with in-flight entertainment systems or any device with a 3.5mm audio jack. Its ease of use, excellent performance, and broad compatibility make it a standout product. The freedom to use my Apple AirPods Pro 2 during flights, without sacrificing audio quality or dealing with cumbersome wires, has significantly improved my travel experience. The AirFly Pro is a high-quality, versatile device that I would highly recommend to any traveler or audio enthusiast looking to bridge the gap between wireless audio and wired sources.
I bought two of these for a 30 hour flight and they both performed flawlessly. We had no issues with battery life or interference of any kind. Super easy to pair with devices and small enough to carry around easily. I loved that they are white which made them easy to spot in a plane seat pocket or floor (if you dropped one).
We ordered 2 of these prior to a long flight LA to Africa. Synced to our Bose ANR Earbuds. Everything from hardware to setup was identical except she is Apple and I am Andry. So, before the flight I set them up, hers worked, mine did not. Sent mine back, but the new one did not make it back in time for the trip. Her comment: “They worked AMAZING.”. still have to set mine up…I will update this review…
Bought this for a recent trip and I use my own noise cancelling headset, but I dislike the cord adaptors. This allowed me to be completely wireless and Bluetooth connection was simple.
I just returned from an overseas trip, and this airfly worked perfectly during my flights so that I could use my headphones without plugging them into the airplane port. In other words it’s wireless and makes for a truly comfortable experience.
I had a tiny bit of difficulty getting the Bluetooth connection the first time, but that was because I had forgotten to turn off the Bluetooth on my phone that was still connected to my headphones. Once I disconnected that, my headphones connected to the airfly Bluetooth right away. It kept its charge for the entire 12 hour flight to my destination. I charged it up for the return flight and again it kept its charge for that 12 hour flight.
The only con is that I can’t figure out how to tell when my airfly is fully charged.
Yes this device works but to be honest it’s a bit fiddly to set up. But in retrospect of buying it, I am not sure it’s really needed since you can just use a small wired connection to the seat monitor. The distance from you to the screen in economy just is a few inches anyway and in first class, the distance is still easily covered by a wire. That being said it can be used with other devices as well to help stream from a Non-BT device that has a mini head phone jack. I bought it and used it for a few hours just cause, it works as intended; would I by it again … no just because the cable of option is less temperamental to set up.
I used these on a few international plane trips with Singapore Airlines with my AirPods Pro (1st Gen) as well as my Sony over ear headphones. They were pretty easy to sync and switch between the two different headsets. There was no notable lag I could tell when watching the in flight entertainment system. The battery life was about 18 hours but seemed quick to recharge.
Instant connection and very resilient. I used this to take the audio from a stand alone record player and broadcast the audio over Bluetooth so that my home theater (Bluetooth capable) system could play it through my home theater surround sound speakers. My tv audio/video receiver instantly connected to it and I was even able to switch over on the receiver to play my ps5 while listening to the music coming from the vinyl record player.
Just know if your tv receiver is being stubborn you will need to manually switch off this little air fly device to stop pairing it when it’s not in use (broadcasting).
I don’t review a ton of purchases, and usually only review the items that I find myself using a lot or that I’ve purchased multiple of. This AirFly is one that I found myself using a lot. Originally I purchased this to use with my Airpod pro 2 on our flight to France. The connection was a little spotty but I don’t think I can blame the AirFly… I think it was the 1/8th connection jack on the plane, it was just WORE out. That said, It did work and I was able to listen to several movies using this + my airpods, on the seat TV. I actually use this ALL the time on my work PC and the headphones jack. Its WAY more reliable than the built in bluetooth functionality on my XPS13… much easier to use and just works. I only use it when I’m just listening to things on my PC while working, but it really works great.
So far so good.
I jus recently used this on my trip to Spain. Fully charged before my 8hr flite to Barcelona. No issues, paired with my AirPods. What I loved about it was no wires to get tangled with when person next to you had to get out or if I had to get out of my seat, no wires to worry about.
I’ve been seeing social media posts about this gadget so I had to try it myself. This product delivered! I used it during a long flight to Tokyo and back and it worked like a charm with my earbuds. The signal was strong, volume control was great and this allowed me to be free from cables/cords dangling from the planes entertainment system. If you travel a lot, this is something you should consider buying.
My wife and I each bought one of these. They are great for riding on planes. I don’t miss being tethered to the seat in front of me anymore while using my noise canceling headphones.
The AirFly SE worked great then, after three months, it had a hiccup. I contacted support and, amazingly, received an almost immediate response. After answering a few questions and providing necessary documentation, my issue was addressed. I received an email, the next day, informing me that a replacement was on the way to me. Twelve South is customer service the way it’s meant to be. Thank you, Twelve South.
I purchased this device with a bit of skepticism but it worked better than I expected. It paired quickly with my AirPods with no fuss, and when I plug it into the stationary exercise machine at the gym, I can hear the audio clearly. I plan to use this also on the planes to avoid having to use the low quality airline provided headphones and eliminate cables.
Works great. Pair your device at home so you don’t have a problem once on the flight. It disconnected a couple times which made me turn it off and back on but it could’ve been on my earbuds side idk, but it worked as expected.
Haven’t had a chance to use it on a flight yet last few flights didn’t have a screen. I did pair it with a gaming device to test it and works as advertised. Nice compact and easy to travel with.
This product was great for connecting my airpods to the TV on a recent JetBlue flight, saving me from the poor quality plane headphones and having to bring larger headphones with the correct plug.
PROS: works well for connecting bluetooth headphones, simple interface, and can easily plug it into the usb outlet next to it for easy charging
CONS: a little tricky to pair with the plane at first—it took a few tries. It would be nice if the charge lasted a little longer or there were some way to track how charged the battery is.
I use this at home plugged into my amplifier with Apple ear pods. It works, but my complaint is that I must synch it with the ear pods each time I use it.
I wanted this for listening to news on the television while doing chores around the house without having to blast it out of the speakers. It works really well for this as long as I’m relatively close by, but the range isn’t as good as that on my iphone or ipad. A couple of rooms away, and you start to get interference and breaking up which can be frustrating.
I got the SE model and I got to say it does fell a little cheap just for the buttons at least but not the body the body fells Solid but I am preatty sure that one or two drops from eye level would mess it up somehow but that’s all; I do recommend that you get the higher model if you are going to be using it regularly but if you are like me where I use it for my mp3 players the SE is just fine (Tip: if you hear nothing from the SE model just keep pressing the volume up button “+” button most of the time that’s all that was)
I haven’t had the opportunity to fly and try out the item. I like the look of it and the compact size. I saw someone else on the plane that had one and she recommended it, so I purchased one. I am looking forward to using it at the end of August when I fly to Canada.
I purchased these to use with a digital piano, but when I connected them to the piano there was a significant lag between striking the piano key, and when I heard the note through the Air Pods.
I researched further through the actual website and it does state that there could be a delay with musical instruments. I did not see this information when researching on Amazon.
The item worked well otherwise, it just would have been nice to know about the delay before I purchased
Used on a long haul flight to connect headphones to aircraft entertainment.
Used for most of 14 hr flight and still had power left. Sound quality good. Like all Bluetooth adaptors there is some lag in the sound versus video when watching a video, but the convenience of not having a cable connection definitely compensates for this. I recommend this item.
To date, used only once on a transatlantic flight to send audio from seat monitor to BT earphones. Worked well. No noticeable latency. If stated battery time is correct then this would mean can fly Europe to Australia without recharge which is pretty respectable. Have not tried the transmit from phone to device yet. The only downside I can see so far is that the text on the buttons is tiney so difficult to read particularly in low light (e.g. on a flight), and remembering the button sequences without the instruction if only using them from time to time is not so easy.
I have used this on 2 flights, for most part, I am pleased with the unit. I have it paired with Bose QC earbuds, that are also paired with phone and iPad. When I last used this, I wasn’t able to switch earbuds back to phone, had to reset everything and re-pair. Have a trip next week, curious to see if the problem occurs agai
I usually don’t review stuff on Amazon, but when I tell you this was literally so freaking easy to set up and works perfectly I’m not lying. Obviously there is a TINY loss of audio quality by using this adapter (as expected!) but honestly for what you need it for, it doesn’t matter whatsoever, and still sounds great! 10/10 highly recommend for frequent flyers!
I loved being able to move around in my seat, eat or stretch and not get bothered by a cord from my bluetooth headphones to the video screen on the airplane. It’s a game changer for sure. Battery lasted from Accra, Ghana all the way to Texas in the USA, 18+ hours in the air! Buying a second one from my son for our next flights!
Use on flights to connect my bose headphones to in flight entertainment without having to use the wire. Works brilliantly and battery lasts well for my 7hr regular flight.
I work in a large facility that uses a popular brand of two way radios to communicate between team members. Between eyeglasses and hearing aids, the over the ear headset kept falling off. I bought this product to see if I could interface the radio with my blue tooth enabled hearing aids. Well it worked perfectly. After cobbling together a mike from parts purchased online the set-up is great. Plus I can use it with my AirPods in the gym to connect with the treadmills video/audio.
We purchased this item for a trip we took to Europe. We didn’t want to be tied down with a cable from our noise canceling over the ear headphones to the airplane seat jack. Plus, we wanted to have the option of using our noise canceling earbuds on the plane. This device worked perfectly! Compatible with our Sony headphones, Beats Fit Pro earbuds and Apple AirPods Pro. Perfect connection to our earbuds for the entire journey during our flights. Battery life was not a problem, lasted during 12 hours of flying time with charge to spare.
As an added bonus, we were able to use the device while on our tours there. They plugged into the Quietvox devices used on group tours to listen to the tour guide. We were able to use our more comfortable earbuds instead of the earpiece with attached wire. We just stored our Quietvox receiver out of sight in our backpack, many in our group wondered how we were listening to our tour guide. They were intrigued by the device and we were more than happy to tell them that they were only $35 on Amazon. I’m sure we sold many units to our tour friends!
I highly recommend the AirFly SE!
Getting the AirPods to work was a pain with another Bluetooth transmitter. This product works seamlessly after a simple setup. I had it attached to the plane’s outlet on a long haul transatlantic flight and it did not fall out. I only gave it 4 stars as occasionally I would lose the signal: turning the transmitter off and then on, re-established the connection. I would spend the higher price of this product if you fly a lot.
The concept is great. I love the idea of using ear buds on airplanes. Entertainment systems with Bluetooth connectivity will become a lot more common, but now they seem to be a rarity onboard. You’re left carrying your own bulky over-the-ear headphones or dealing with the junky earphones the airline offers (even in business class, they aren’t great). In either case, you’re dealing with a cord.
The product is easy to setup. No issues there.
My main complaint is the audio lag. It seems the picture is about a quarter second ahead of the audio. It has been a bit better and noticeably worse depending on the airplane. If you’re listening to an audiobook or listening to a music channel, you’re in great shape. The issue is with movies (particularly on older planes).
I would still recommend the product. You just need to take the good with the bad.
I read reviews of cheaper products where customers complained about the sound delay. It makes me wonder if I really got a better product or simply a more expensive product.
I’ve been hoping for something like this for a long time! I was tired of keeping my expensive bluetooth earbuds in my pocket and having to use the cheap airline provided wired earphones when wanting to watch the seatback video entertainment while flying. These are excellent!! Plug them into the audio port of the screen, pair them with your bluetooth earbuds/headset, and enjoy! It did take me a couple of tries to get them paired, but then the connection was flawless. Lasted on a cross country flight with no issues. I imagine you could charge the AirFly while using it on longer flights by plugging into the USB port on the screen, but I haven’t tried that. Highly recommended!!
Le meilleur achat pour utiliser ses propres couteurs wireless. Trs satisfaite je recommande
Husband used this on recent long haul flight and loved i
Works a treat. Removal of cables great. Had a previous generation of air fly product so know these work well, hence reason for choosing to pay more.
Paired with my bose QC earbuds easily. Sound quality is great and great battery life. Highly recommend
I think the construction and design of these is great. In that respect I can’t fault them. My purpose with these was to add Bluetooth to my Ipod Classic – which only has a wired socket.
They paired easily with my Airpods Pro 2 – as long as you do it with the airpods in the case and the lid open as stated in the guide!
The sound quality has been fine and I have had no issues with it being too quite – though I would not use them in a line out socket – only a headphone Jack.
My only disappointment is that they do have some fractional latency and so depending on what you are using to play videos, there is a very slight sync issue between the video and audio. This is not such a problem if – for example with VLC – you can control that, but if you have no sync control then this could be quite annoying.
So using them on a plane for example, might be tricky.
However if it is just for audio there are no issues.
I probably wouldn’t buy them again because I find the latency limitation a little irritating – even though they do what I needed them for – I like to have options! If they could sort that out there would be perfect!
Took it out of the box, gave it a quick charge and it works perfectly. Did nothing more than switch it on and paired it with my JBL. A whole new lease of life for my already ancient IPod classic. Wonderful. Also connected to my AirPods with ease.
Easy pairing with my Bluetooth earbuds & connected easily to my tv.big test will be when I take the AirFly SE on my next long haul. Everything’s crossed!!!
