More than happy with the product. But I sliced my finger really deep unboxing the product. Funnily enough I cut it on the bit that’s there to protect your hand from the heat. Kind of ironic I hurt myself on that part lol.

Would be 5 stars if I didn’t have to glue my finger closed after unboxing.

Must admit I thought this would be a waste of money. However it is by far the best BBQ Item I have got. If you fallow the instructions it heats the coals up really fast and evenly. Does get hot though but well what would you expect.

Forget flimsy copies with rivets that fall out. It really isn’t worth trying to save a fiver. We’ve had our large Weber starter chimney for years and it’s still going strong. I’ve just bought a second one as as we’re BBQing in two different places this weekend, and pleased to say it’s still the same great quality.

This chimney is just brilliant! Takes away all the hassle of getting the briquettes burning properly. In literally 15 mins the barbeque is ready! Next time I will add more briquettes to fill up to the brim – am ordering another one as we have big barbeques and even two may not be enough to fill them up. Thats why I am left wondering why I never got these before when my friend had told me about these. An absolute must if u r a bbq fan!

I had one I bought from the local garden shop years ago. It worked but rusted pretty badly because it was made with cheap metal. This Weber chimney starter is made of aluminium and does not rust. Also, it is designed for efficiency. I used it for the first time and realised how much more efficient it was compared to the one I had. Its size is fairly large, so you can light a good amount of charcoal for a large grill. I can highly recommend it!!

This magical product takes the biggest hassle out of barbequeing, leaving you with only the fun of it. In 15 minutes you get ready-to-use burning charcoal without having to do nothing but light up some cubes. Every griller should have one of these.

Very good for barbecues when it’s a little cooler or even in winter. I use briquettes, two-thirds full – and use a few file lighters at the base – within about 10 minutes, the briquettes are glowing and ready to transfer over to the barbecue.

    Worth every penny or pound.

Prior to purchasing Weber Chimney I was using so many more firelighters to get my barbecue started and it was taking up too much time to get the barbecue lit. Now it is so much easier, safer and cost effective.
Makes doing a barbecue more enjoyable. Look up on You Tube as to how to use it….good tips!

The air flow is excellent and allows charcoal to start burning fast and efficiently.
Just make sure your BBQ is large enough for this: mine is a small one and I must be careful not to let embers fall from the bottom of the device outside of my BBQ when I pour them from the top of the device.

Always wanted to try one, got this at nearly half price on prime day. A lot bigger than I thought but the materials used are far superior to a lot of the cheap ones you see out there. You literally screw up some newspaper balls and place at the bottom, throw in your coals, light the paper and no joke in a few minutes the coals are alight and glowing red hot and can add as little or more as you like. No going back to fire lighter’s for me!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is the second chimney starter I’ve had. The first one was a cheaper version of this which worked great up to the handle melting. As I have had a Weber barbeque for years, I decided to buy this whilst on offer. It is a quality bit of kit and works great, far better than using barbeque lighting fuels as the coals are ready for cooking on within 10 minutes and there is no fuel smell to contend with.

Amazing piece of kit. I was sceptical when ordering this chimney but very soon realised how much of a game-changer it is. Only required a few bunches of newspaper to get it started and after lighting the paper the charcoal coals were ready in 25mins.
No messing about with lighter fluid or starter briquettes. (And no horrible taste in the cooking)
Why didn’t I use one of these years ago? A must-have for barbecuing!

Starting the fire for my BBQs with this chimney is so easy !!!
This step (lighting up the coal) has changed from the most frustrating of my BBQ days to a no brainer.
I now know that in no time the process is started without the need of chemical starters which I want to avoid.

  24. MeghanBlank says:

Yes this barbecue starter is more money however the build quality of this product is far superior to anything else that I’ve seen on the market, and let’s face it the temperatures that these coals can get up to the build quality has to be spot-on, don’t compromise or put your safety in doubt, buy this, it will last longer and be safer to use.

I read it a lot while thinking about getting this but it really is the best thing I’ve bought for BBQing.

It’s super easy to use and works every time. It makes lighting your bbq fuel very easy and is faster than the age old pyramid method.

    Can’t recommend enough.

Excellent product, I often struggled to get all the charcoal or briquettes the same heat or working at the same time. This works perfectly. Only used once so far, but can’t wait to try it again. Did get quite a few sparks when emptying, so be careful. Also as my charcoal is nearly finished I wanted to put the broken bits in and use them up, but they obviously just fall through the grate.

I used some old scrap paper and a few firelighters at the base, then put the chimney starter on top (once you have filled it of course), 15mins or so later and you just tip it out (carefully).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, easy to use

Do I really need one ?? I’ve been lighting BBQs for years, carefully creating a pyramid around lighter blocks, shuffling the coals around to make sure all the charcoal has taken. . . . I bit the bullet and bought a Weber chimney starter to go with my new BBQ. Fantastic. Now just load the starter with standard briquettes, sit it in the BBQ on a couple of fire lighters and leave it for 30 minutes. After 30 mins, I simply tip the chimney out and have even lit briquettes ! It is well made and sturdy. I store it under my Weber BBQ (after removing the ash pan) as it is quite bulky and cover everything with a Weber cover. 10/10

Initially I wanted to spend next to nothing on a chimney starter for my bbq; Then I thought about the dangerous consequences of buying a cheap one, in that it could fall apart while it’s carrying flaming hot charcoal. I’ve only bbq’d three times in my life. The first time I stood trying to get a fire going for almost an hour and the 2nd and 3rd time i had this beauty, and it took 10-15 minutes to light about 1.5kg charcoal. The handles work well to give some distance from the heat and the actual starter is huge so i’ve never had to fill it to the top. I would strongly recommend this if you’re like me and prefer to have control over the lighting of a bbq, as well as enjoy a smooth bbq cook with few issues.

Like some other reviewers I too had been struggling with reliably igniting various forms of charcoal for my Kettle BBQ. I decided it was time to do it properly, so I ordered this Chimney Starter (along with some Weber firelighters) and I was not disappointed.

Now the BBQ is super simple to get started, just light a couple of firelighters, plonk this on top and 15 mins later your coals are ready, no fuss.

Honestly if you have recently bought a BBQ and have been messing around with pre-soaked bags of coal or wads of newspaper to get up and running, you should treat yourself and grab one of these.

For years I’ve used lighter fuel, paper, more lighter fuel, more paper and then this gadget came into my life. Anyone thinking about buying one of these, stop thinking and do it. Literally I now use 1 x lighter cube and somehow the bleeding thing just lights. I have used it 15 times and every single time it just works, this means you can plan when to light rather than guessing how long it might take to get ready for cooking. I even did beer can chicken for the first time and it was easy and delicious. Anyone serious about BBQ and doesn’t already own one of these, you will not be disappointed.

  31. Anonymous says:

What can I say? First time I’ve tried this. It is amazing! You need nothing but one or 2 fire lighters. 10/15m later depending on your charcoal, it is ready to BBQ.
If you need to add charcoal, you light it up again on this so the charcoal is going in at the right temperature.

It isn’t the cheapest but it really is a brilliant product and Webber is a brand you can trust that makes sturdy and long lasting products.

If you are serious about your bbq, this is for you. If you use high grade/restaurant grade bbq you will love this as it makes it extremely easy to light and you have heat for 4/5 hours.

If you have a charcoal BBQ but have never used a chimney starter you’re missing out! This is the easiest way to light your charcoal and it gives you an even burning surface because it ensures ALL your charcoal is burning.
Simply fill the chimney starter with charcoal.
Place a single fire lighter or ball of paper onto your charcoal grill
    Set it alight
Then place the chimney starter over it. It will smoke for a while but within 5 minutes you have a blazing starter full of burning charcoal. Simply empty it out into your bbq. Place your cooking grill in place and away you go.
Until you’ve used one you won’t believe how easy it is to use!

Perfect to get your bbq started! This is such a great thing to have when you light a bbq. In my eyes a must! You just pile the charcoal up put this on top and a few more bits of charcoal and add your fire lighter and just let it do it’s thing. The bbq will be lit and ready within about 30 minutes. Or less depending on the size. I have a medium to large bbq.

The handle is plastic so you can grab it without it getting too hot if you haven’t got much charcoal on it. I use a tea towel or a glove just in case as it still gets pretty hot!

Plastic has melted a bit also after a few uses.

I am delighted with the chimney – it takes the faff and bother out of lighting charcoal for the BBQ. However, I bought mine from Amazon and then found that I could have bought the same genuine Weber chimney starter (same size) for 5 less at my local garden centre. So, it pays to shop around. Also, as it is packed for shipping, the fold up steadying handle is secured in such a way that you have to remove the plastic handle, to release it and then re-secure the plastic handle. A faff – particularly if you have dexterity issues and or can’t find a posidrive screw drive

Of all the purchases I have made over many years, this has made the biggest difference. massive reduction on firelighters, and as easy as those bags you have to light, without the terrible taste of those crumbly lighting briquettes. Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been telling anyone and everyone how great this contraption is. We use it camping normally for briquettes (we ran out of this time). Takes about 20-25mins when full and you get heat from the chimney so it’s like a camp fire; perfect for those camp sites that don’t allow open fires! I chose the Weber one because it’s the largest and just fits the photographed grill when full of briquettes. We used 2 one-inch square firelighters or some scrumpled up newspaper. Don’t even have to touch/fan it or top up. Don’t know how I’ve lived without this before.

This might well be the best thing I have bought BBQing ever. Just used it to start the BBQ for Sunday lunch. It had charcoal glowing red/white within 10 mins, and the BBQ temp was up at 300c in no time, and with more of the charcoal left to burn than normal. Took me a bit by surprise at how quickly it got things up to temp.

It makes prepping the BBQ coals so quick that it is as easy as using an oven; I can see we’ll be BBQing a lot more often now.

So what is this for? Convenience. If like me you are doing the whole BBQ on your own this buys you convenience. Fill the chimney with briquettes, put a couple of fire lighters on the BBQ light them and put this chimney on top. After around 30minutes you are ready to go.

Mind you if there is not enough wind you may have to help the fire along but honestly it still cuts out a lot of time compared to a more traditional method where you have to stand over and manage the entire igniting of the coals.

I’ve been having good/bad BBQs for years. Sometimes the coals light and take off, other times it’s a real struggle to get them firing.

Tried it with the lid open, lid closed with air vents open, fire lighters, white spirit, all sorts of combinations.

And then I bought this Weber chimney. Well, it’s brilliant. The only way I will be lighting my BBQs on the future. Get a bag of Weber fire lighter cubes. Light them. Place the full chimney over them and with 15 to 20 mins you have red hot coals. Empty into bbq, adding a few more coals on top and you’re good to go.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI opted for the Weber brand chimney starter as I wanted to ensure I had quality, albeit at a slightly higher cost. I used it for the first time today. My equipment being a standard barrel bbq pictured. I used ‘fire builder eco-friendly fire starters’ from amazon, and my fuel was lump wood coal. I ensured the fire starter was fully alight before putting the chimney starter full of coals over it (pictured).

I had been worried that lump wood would be less effectively burned given the density and smaller size of the coals. This was absolutely not the case.

I was not disappointed. The coals were burning throughout and ready to pour into the barrel bbq in 20 minutes. The result was a consistent heat with no worry about consistency.

I would recommend this to anyone. The build quality is as expected—robust and well constructed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome product. Works perfectly with lump wood and other fire lighters.

I’ve wanted one of these for ages, and it did NOT disappoint! I absolutely love this big of kit: it takes all the ‘will it light, won’t it light’ drama out of starting a BBQ; glowing, cook-ready coals are good to go in about 20 mins; it uses fewer lighters, and you will never need lighter fluid, ever. The ergonomics are fantastic, with the two handles making pouring and control super-safe, and I even like the way the flames fire out the base when it tip it over, like some cool afterburner on a fighter jet!

A legit 5-star product which not only pays for itself in cost and time, but will outlast the cheap throwaway alternatives.

Any serious grill-fan needs a Rapidfire!

After a guy at work mentioned getting a chimney starter and that it changed his life for BBQing I decided to do the same and it has been amazing!! An absolute life changer for people who struggle to get the coals perfect on charcoal BBQ this makes everything so easy! Just load it up and light a couple of bricketts underneath then leave it for 15-20mins till the coal is white hot, spread the coal and then start cooking!

I will never BBQ again without this! Trust all the good reviews and you will not be disappointed!

Realistically, it’s 20-30 minutes with a full chimney to get hot rather than 15 minutes but so much better than the old ways, i.e. self lighting bags. Combine with decent lump wood charcoal, decent firelighters (I use the eco/organic type in a bid to avoid all the chemicals), and you’re away. Best thing about chimney starters is you can light them and just walk away for half an hour rather than constantly prodding your bbq.

Don’t think twice about purchasing, your life becomes much easier with one (in fact I bought a second one to ensure my big bbq would be ready to go asap as one chimney starter load will only cover a smallish kettle bbq. If you have a bigger barrel style bbq you’ll probably want two chimneys. Finally, you’ll want to buy some bbq mitts too if you buy one of these or your oven gloves will be looking the worse for wear in no time 🙂

Delivered today, lit 8 mins ago, coals all ready flaming. Why have I been messing about for up to an hour each night.
    Don’t hesitate buy one now.
    Update:
    Worked A treat.
Best thing is I can now plan what time we eat, not a problem weekends, but better in the week when times tight, heres how I used it.
First thing, all ways been a lump wood user, and I would not argue the science over it being the best with no chemical taint to the food.
So called in local Tesco, bought a bag of briquettes and some fire lighters.
Three fire lighters on the grill, three parts full of briquettes, off for a shower, came back it’s roaring.
Most important, equal burning, so, will always use it.
Get one, it’s great, if you don’t like it, not the end of the world for 20 quid. Think about those precious hours in the week.

Golden Review Award: 77 From Our UsersA great purchase, one of those you never realised you needed until you have one. Using the chimney starter means you can get coals fully lit before they go on the grill and light more batches without disturbing the cooking area.

Usage is extremely simple. You light your fire lighters of choice, place a coal filled chimney on top of the fire lighters then wait until the top layer of coal has ashed over.

The carry handle is solid and doesn’t transfer much heat. The 2nd handle allows you to use 2 hands when tipping out the contents.

I’ve been using this for over 2 years now and have some tips/advice to share:

    – For lighting I perfer those wood twine balls as they tend to create the biggest flame. Newspaper works but can be inconsistent and leaves a lot of ash. Chemical cubes do the job and light instantly but produce a smaller flame.

    – On a large Brinkmann BBQ one full chimney of coals is good to grill a few of batches of food for a fairly large party. One full chimney gives around 90mins-2hrs of steady low heat on a water smoker depending on how warm the weather is.

    – Lumpwood or briquettes work just as well, with briquettes taking a little longer to light but producing a more consistent large batch due to the even sizes.

    – Avoid coals with “instant light” (or similar) on the bag. They are unnecessary for the chimney and due to the lighting chemical in them will crackle and spark a lot!

    – Buy yourself some forearm length welding gauntlets and safety glasses. It’s not unusual to get sparks flying around and small pieces of hot coals falling out the bottom as you’re tipping out the chimney. Welding gauntlets also allow you to quickly pick up hot coals that have fallen out or even spread your pile of hot coals after you’ve tipped them out.

    – An old square patio slab makes a great surface to light the chimney on. The BBQ coal pan also works well but it helps to have somewhere away from the grill for top ups.

    – If you’re near the end of a bag of coal don’t be tempted to tip the dust in the chimney. It’ll choke the chimney out and create a smoke bomb in your garden.

    – Equally although massive chunks of lumpwood coal are nice you don’t want them in the chimney. Large chunks burn down a lot and you’ll be left with half a chimney once the coals are ready. I tend to put the biggest chunks on the BBQ and tip the lit coals over the top.

    – When you first light the chimney it sometimes looks like not much is happening but as long as the bottom layer of coals starts catching (5-10mins), that will cause a chain reaction until the whole chimney is lit.

In my opinion an essential purchase for any coal BBQ fan. Yes it can be done without the chimney but even if you buy one only for lighting extra batches it’ll make your life much easier.

After 2 years mine is still in perfect usable condition. Yes the metal finish is tarnished and heat stained but structurally it is solid and as good as day one.

Just stuff some newspaper in the bottom, add the coals, light the paper and walk away to get a beer! 15-20 minutes later the coals are glowing red hot.
I’ve been known as the BBQ King for years by friends and family and love nothing more than entertaining whilst cooking on the BBQ. Cooking is the enjoyable bit, making sure everything is cooked perfectly so everyone is happy. The only issue I’ve had is finding the perfect way to light the coals. This has been a lifelong quest to find the best possible solution. The best way to stack the coals, which firelighters to use, fire gel or liquid, which coals, ways to let enough draft to the flame, but not let it blow out… You think you’ve found the right combination, but next time it’s all different again. Unfortunately, factors such as the quality of the ‘flame retardant’ coals or firelighters, too much wind that blows the flames out or ‘just one of those things’ means that what should have been enjoyable ends up being a stressful hour wasted wondering if it’ll ever light. But not anymore! Using this Weber Chimney starter was fantastic! So easy and so fast! As a first test run I did a really small BBQ for 3, something I often wouldn’t have bothered doing as the hit and miss time it takes to light can seem a waste for such a small BBQ. That’ll never put me off again. After 15 minutes I could have emptied it out an cooked on it. In fact, a word of warning: the coals were so hot in such a short time from lighting that the only issue I had was that I wasn’t ready to cook on them for about another 30 minutes or more – as I was busy doing other jobs and perhaps drinking a beer! By the time I got to cook on them they were actually starting to lose some heat. But it was only a test, so not to worry – it gave me the excuse to light another small batch and in under 15 minutes they were perfectly hot and ready to cook on.
So you can pretend that it’s the manly ‘fire starter’ thing to do to have to spend the best part of the day stressing, lighting, re-lighting, wasting fortunes on fuel and firelighters, stinking of smoke from standing over it for so long and then feeling vaguely satisfied when you’ve at last managed it. Or you can get one of these and feel incredibly pleased with yourself that you’ve done your research and actually know how to light a BBQ the right way – with a single strike of a match you know it’s all going to work perfectly to plan and in under 20 mins you’ll be ready to cook. Leaving you more time to enjoy yourself while the chimney does its job! (Unfortunately, it may mean you’re asked to help out in the kitchen, but you can always pretend it’s harder than it looks!)
I’ve not compared the Weber against any other slightly cheaper brands, but seeing as it’s not that expensive, looks good and well built, will hopefully last forever, be a real talking point when friends come around, I think it’s well worth the extra few quid to know you’ve bought the right one.
IF YOU BBQ YOU NEED ONE OF THESE! Enjoy 🙂

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThese is a well made product that does exactly what I want it to do. A dedicated charcoal barbeque man, a chimney gives not only a reliable means of starting a bbq quickly without lighter fuel, but also enables you to start/add additional charcoal as and when required.
If longer cooking needed, you simply start more charcoal in the chimney and wait until ready to cook on (grey) before adding to the bbq; no interruption in the cooking process. Overall this gives you virtually the same flexibility as gas, with no flare ups and better flavoured results; what is not to like?
I have used one of these for years with no problems, sturdily built and safe to use, although some good mits are recommended and you do need a safe spot to set this down given the heat generated; I usually stand it on concrete on a couple of paving bricks. The later also improves the air flow.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this to accompany my new Weber BBQ and can honestly say it’s probably the most useful thing I have ever bought. If you like BBQ’s like I do (and have probably at least 3 a week in the Summer) but hate having to get your hands dirty rummaging around in charcoal to insert firelighters this is what you need. I first bought a cheap one from Aldi but this didn’t last long. This is well made and is very sturdy.

Not only do you save the mess on your hands but it also lights the charcoal excellently. No more spraying lighter fuel everywhere, rummaging around trying to put firelighters under the coal or shuffling charcoal about trying to get it all lit, this will get everything ready in half the time. No more fanning the coal, blowing it, or spraying liquid everwhere. It really is “light and forget”.

Fill the drum 2/3 of the way with charcoal, put a couple of firelighters on the charcoal grill, light them, place this on top and then leave to burn through for 15 mins whilst you do something else. Once the hot charcoal flame starts to appear at the top, just CAREFULLY tip the hot contents where you want them. That’s it. So easy. You will certainly want more BBQ’s simply because it’s so easy to get going and without of the hassle.

If you have the Weber side charcoal holders (or even if you don’t) then fill this 2/3 of the way up as its quite large and when filled to the top is probably more than you would need for an average BBQ. It does get quite smoaky when first lit, depending on your fuel but this goes within a few minutes so I usually leave it for a few minutes and go inside.

It does say that you can use old newspaper to light the coal but I have never tried this and use normal cheap white firelighters. Just a couple will do it. If you buy just one item for your BBQ then make this the one. It does take some of the “fun” out of trying to light your BBQ – spraying lighter fuel everywhere and watching it burn but that is a small price to spay for this easy to use and so convenient item!!!

Bought one of these to go with the new Weber BBQ and use it every single time we fire her up. Fantastic design and gets your coals ready in no time with minimal fuss, mess or burnt fingers. I think it says that you can use newspaper however I use a couple of fire lighters. Fill the top up with charcoal then place the fire-lighters underneath. Once lit it take about 15 mins or so for the charcoal to take. The fire-lighters burn and you can see the charcoal smouldering away. Once you are happy that all the charcoal is lit, just tip it out where you want the embers and begin cooking. We normally light the chimney, get it in position and go back inside and leave it to work away until ready. The handle works well meaning you can tip the hot charcoal which minimal of fuss. All the charcoal is evenly lit and ready to go.

So good I have bought a couple of these for friends. If you like BBQ’s but don’t like digging through charcoal to place your firelighters then this is for you! It has revolutionised everything!
